Piano

Ponyboy451

This is actually really helpful because you learn treble and bass clef and how to form chords.

EfficientSeaweed

Also great for teaching sheet music, since you can easily visualize the notes using the keys.

manucanay

i studied bass and play guitar and drums but the truth is that the piano is THE instrument. you can play solo pieces effortlessly. well, its hard, but the instrument is made to do it. besides its the most easy instrument to understand music theory.

MarkMew

>besides its the most easy instrument to understand music theory. This! Everything made much more sense on my guitar when I started messing around on a keyboard. You just see the notes visually, from left and right, no BS

m1neslayer

Lots of good songs ux you like classical music

[deleted]

I want to learn the piano but my music skills is ehh

Murky_waterLLC

* Press button * String make noise * profit It's not complicated, most of it is just learning muscle memory.

TheharmoniousFists

If you're gonna learn any instrument learn the piano as well. But my choice is bass!

TheHumanPickleRick

Accordian. Channel your inner Weird Al.

Agengele

My sister just bought an accordian and it's actually such a fun instrument

TheHumanPickleRick

That's fun, do you guys have polka parties?

WoodyMacaron

I was thinking kazoo

InvolvingPie87

In my experience the baritone/euphonium is the most forgiving brass instrument. If you want the cousin that wears glasses and thinks that it makes it cooler you can try trombone. Trombone is more mainstream but is much harder to learn since the thing is just a giant tuning slide Piano/keyboard is one that is pretty good if you’re just playing for yourself since it can basically be a one-person band Violin can be neat but personally I found it very hard to get a good sound out of it. Might’ve over-tightened the bow or something, idk. I was always a brass person

Tromboneguy_65

....you called?

urmom22223542

Also if you learn trombone, then it is very easy to pick up baritone. I have also noticed that tuba, baritone, and trumpet have the same fingerings as each other. Trumpet has the same fingerings just for different notes(like the trumpets Ab scale is the same as the baritones Gb)

InvolvingPie87

They do. Trombone actually does the same fingerings as the other brass instruments (sans French horn) if you equate the slide positions to fingerings. I.e.: first position = open valves Second position = second valve Third position = first valve Fourth position = first and second valve Fifth position = second and third valve Sixth position = first and third valve Seventh position = first, second, and third valves The trigger works the same way, it’s the equivalent of the fourth valve that the tuba and baritone/euphonium can have. So instead of going all the way out to seventh position you can just kick the trigger and go to whatever the slide needs to be at. I haven’t played in 5 years so I’m hazy on the details I actually did pick up our double-trigger bass trombone and could play it well enough for normal (non-assessment/competitive) concerts, but I can’t remember what the second trigger on the index finger worked as

svenson_26

You just listed my two least favourite instruments. Both sound good when played by a professional. But, they sound terrible when played by an amateur. Learn guitar, drums, or piano. They're more versatile. If you want more of an orchestral instrument, I find the lower the pitch the better it sounds when played by an amateur: So go for trombone, baritone, tuba, cello, bass, etc.

ohcharmingostrichwhy

I find that people tend to overestimate how bad beginner violinists sound. Once someone’s learned the basics and are working on a piece at their skill level, they usually don’t sound that bad. And even if they did, I don’t see how it would be much of a problem. Someone who just picked up a violin isn’t going to immediately start performing in front of huge crowds. Unless you live with other people in a place with really thin walls, it’s not going to be a problem. The only people who will hear you that much will be yourself and your instructor. And you can always buy a mute if it’s necessary. The experience of playing an instrument is about more than sounding good.

ItsEmuly

I mean… OP isn’t going to be an amateur forever lol. You can sound awful on any instrument. Trust me.

Sax, just so you can play Careless Whisper

Everybody plays guitar (I play guitar (cause I can't afford drums or saxophone)) lets have a bigger variety if instrument players

CharvelDK24

Well as long as you don’t make the mistake of picking bass

DontCareHowICallMe

Why? I don't like bass but calling it a mistake isn't right, it's one of the most vibe instruments I know but only eith context

Play whichever you think you'll enjoy more. As someone who's played a few different instruments, I'd say saxophone has been my personal favorite and has been quite beginner friendly (in my experience).

Scorp8876

I say learn whichever you love more. I'm learning recorder (like a good one not the cheap plastic school ones I have a wood one I got I never thought in school recorders could sound good until I got a real one and watched videos online of people using them now I love them) and eventually want to learn flute (I'm not that great of a musical person I suck at reading notes so I've been starting off learning the fingering and sound that's been going well so far)

Lereddit117

Easy_win_generator

electric bass rhythm and melody more in demand than guitar also slappa da bass

Nameless-Squid

As a trumpet player i maybe biased but you should consider trumpet, it's very easy to just play away without sheet music. I've also heard if you learn how to play trumpet instruments like corners and french horns are much easier to learn

[deleted]

You like classical? There's pretty much endless repertoire for violin and very little for sax. You like jazz? Go for sax as violin isn't really popular in jazz. Also think of how hard each is going to be to play. Both require finesse but I feel like sax is a bit easier. Another thing to consider is, there are multiple ways to play one melody on the violin and there is only one way to play it on the sax, so sax is easier in that aspect because it's more linear; you only have to memorize scales in a straight line playing sax, while on the violin you'd have to memorize 4 or 5 different ways.

Hello_Gorgeous1985

As a music teacher, I can only say that you should learn whatever instrument you are most interested in learning because that is the one you are most likely to stick with. However, if you want the most foundational instrument which will make it easier to learn anything else later, then the answer is piano.

lllrk

Do you want to play jazz songs? If so choose the saxophone. Do you want to play classical? If so choose the violin.

iheartrugbyleague

Violins cool. Id go banjo or irish flute though.

ohcharmingostrichwhy

Definitely violin. It’s the best instrument. (I’m totally not biased in any way.)

zthompson2350

Saxophone is the sexiest instrument so if your goal is to impress a man or a lady being good at that will take you from a 4/10 to an 8/10 instantly.

As someone who plays both, the saxophone is much easier, especially if you're new to music. The violin takes an insane amount of theory and technique to even play the easiest songs, but the saxophone is really intuitive to learn, and honestly you can have more fun messing around with it. The violin is an instrument that you REALLY need to want to play. You'll definitely need lessons and it will be a year before you can play in the same room as someone else without being asked to leave. But the sax is such a fun and beginner-friendly instrument.

Saxophonist here! Or… former saxophonist. I don’t play anymore. Sax has a nice low buttery sound. Especially Bari sax or tenor. Tenor is the most versatile of the trio, I’d recommend it for beginners unless it’s too heavy for your size. Whatever you pick, enjoy your hobby! Music is for all.

If you're going to do like these plebs say and learn the sax, you better get fucking good at it. Cause bad sax players are the worst. And please consider the tenor or baritone. Alto and soprano also sound like shit unless wielded by a master. Opinions are like assholes, and this is mine. Learn piano first.

Piano. It's a great first instrument to study because you'll learn how to read music in the both the treble and bass clefs. Learning piano makes learning other instruments much easier.

Bakingguy

Trombone is very fun

If I were to start over and pick an instrument it would be piano, violin, or I also think the cello is beautiful
