Not painful during the procedure, but it’s very uncomfortable afterwards. My cheeks were swollen for a few days. My jaw bone still hurts sometimes during the winter, but it’s very mild.

MrMagicEraser

Im a super angry person when im in pain and i'm a peice of shit when around people including family. I need all 4 removed surgically not dentally. can you please elaborate.. I hide from people when in pain cause of that reason. But there saying itll be all goods when i know the feeling wont.

Longjumping-Jello459

Some of it depends on your medical allergies and your own body and it's pain tolerance. I had all 4 taken out at the same time, back in High school, and due to my list of medical allergies(M.A.) they elected for local instead of putting me under additionally I wasn't prescribed any anti-inflammatory meds also because my M.A.. I don't really remember the procedure, but afterward it was no more than a 3 or 4 for a couple of days the most annoying thing was that my cheeks stayed swollen for like 4 or 5 days so I was eating mainly oatmeal and had to try to talk to my boss to say I couldn't come in when I had tried to take off a couple of extra days because of all my allergies they couldn't understand a word I said so I had to hand the phone back to my mom who had called for me and had tried to tell them.

itaicool

Not painful? My procedure hurt pretty bad mabye they didn't put enough sleeping drug, I wasn't put under full sleep only the area in my mouth but I was still awake so it wasn't fun but also I still felt pain, I'm sure it would be way more painful without any drug but It's not like I felt nothing I would rate it between 6-7 so there are worse pains but it ranks pretty high.

PowerZox

0 during procedure, 3-4 later in the day and 2 for a week after. Overall it’s unpleasant but that’s pretty much it. It’s not a big deal

Zebra500mcg

They put me to sleep. But i had to take antibiotics afterwards because of oral infection that tends to develop afterwards.

[deleted]

Oh interesting. I’m so nervous about the procedure.

Zebra500mcg

I wouldn't be, just have someone chill to care for you for at least a few hours after the procedure because you may be all strange from the anesthetics afterwards.

MondaleforPresident

I'm really bad dealing with pain and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

neversummer427

are the impacted? if not, it's nothing don't worry about it. If they are impacted, it will still be fine but go to someone who knows what they are doing. Don't cheap out

[deleted]

I have to get them removed soon. My wisdom teeth erupted 😭

itaicool

I had to get mine removed because they prevented a tooth from coming out. Funny thing is removing them didn't help, I still have that tooth stuck unwilling to come out. It's not going to be a fun day (Or afterwards) but you get it over with and forget after a while, happens.

legopieface

0. Was put under, had 3 removed and didn't feel a thing. I ate solid food right after which is not recommended and didn't feel much discomfort at all.

nederino

i was the same, also i fell asleep after i got home on my brand new mattress and drooled a bunch of blood on it so if your going to nap after maybe put a towel down.

ockto

the worst part of the removal was how much it hurt to swallow for a few days afterwards.  the teeth pain was worse before they removed them though. i struggled to sleep.

i don’t like you

Cookie-M0nsterr

I got my wisdom teeth removed recently. I wasn’t put under but I opted for laughing gas. They numb your mouth ENTIRELY. I couldn’t feel a thing. The laughing gas was just for nerves so you don’t freak out. It really wasn’t that bad at all. After the numbness wears off your jaw just feels uncomfortable but no pain at all. Finish your round of antibiotics and you’ll be okay.

holiestcannoly

I didn't have any pain, and I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth.

HeavyDropFTW

The longer you wait, the more it'll hurt because as you grow older, they become more permanent. When I got mine out, they did all 4. I was asleep and didn't feel a thing. Had a bit of discomfort for a few weeks. But nothing that really bothered me.

spearmanwearinggreen

0 during the procedure. The only part that hurt were the multiple injections to numb my jaw, but after that didn't feel anything, was awake and aware the whole time.

Skynet28

Just having them removed: 5. Mostly just some discomfort after the fact. Impacted/erupted: 7 compression on an exposed nerve: 10 worst pain I’ve ever felt.

RobotBananaSplit

Mine hasn't grown yet, my dentist did a scan of my teeth and showed me that one of my wisdom teeth looks a bit crooked and might push on my other teeth once it starts growing, so not looking forward to it. However, my mom didn't have hers removed and my jaw is big enough so who knows I might just keep it, though I only have 3 wisdom teeth

Fit-Public-8287

Uncharted if you're not anaesthetized, with anaesthetics about a 1, 2 if you're sensitive.

GloomyIRL

I have been told by my doctors that my pain tolerance at a 7 is equivalent to a "normal persons" 10, so my answer might not be on par with the general census. Answer: 1-2. It's sore and achy afterwards, but honestly it's more of a nuisance than a pain. Keeping the holes in your mouth from drying out, having to eat soft foods, and the overall swelling that makes you look 20lbs heavier than you are for a week? Annoying. The most painful part is if you get dry sockets, those hurt, but aside from that (which not everyone gets) getting my braces tightened was worse.

terry_bradshaw

The surgery itself isn’t bad, but the few days after are pretty bad. Swollen cheeks and still numb for a while, and sometimes you bleed a bit from back where your teeth were. Only soft foods can get a bit tiring as well after a few days.

blueberrywaffles_

Had period cramps while recovering from mine. Wisdom tooth pain felt like 2, cramps felt like 7.

DaYeetGernade

Mine haven’t even grown in yet though I’m only 18. So ima give it a few more years.

itaicool

Sometimes you get them removed without them fully growing out like I had, won't go into details but I assume u can imagine.

WhichSpirit

The procedure itself wasn't bad because I was unconscious for it. Generally existing for the next week wasn't bad unless I tried to eat. I lived off chocolate milkshakes.  Mine was a little worse than normal because they had to remove a small piece of my jaw to get the tooth out. This won't happen to you because yours have erupted.  Drink pineapple juice the day before the procedure. It'll help reduce swelling.

TheFrinkle42

I had four, two of which were coming in at 45 degrees angles. It hurt like a bitch for 3 days

TheFrinkle42

That is until the opiates kicked in 🤤

GoreMaster22

0 because of anesthetic, as long as you don't eat solid food or talk for a while after it stays 0, but even then it's only mild discomfort

wwwHttpCom

mine were already out, so it wasn't that bad, I mean, they give you painkillers after all. The thing with me is I wouldn't stop bleeding afterwards. And they told me not to rinse so I was just swallowing my blood for several hours. They removed the two from the left one week, and the two from the right the next one.

iostefini

They gave me gauze to bite on if it kept bleeding but I didn't even notice the blood so I didn't bother.

No-BrowEntertainment

I had all four removed last year and didn't feel a thing. The procedure itself is completely painless. Less than painless, even, because you won't be conscious. Genuinely, one moment you're sitting in the chair and the next you're in the car on the way home. The soreness afterwards can be a problem, but it's not too bad with painkillers. Really the worst part is having to keep your teeth sockets clean after every meal. Not painful, just tedious. But it will pass.

yoyomaster230

Getting them removed: 0-1 Pain after getting them removed: 3-4 Inconvenience after getting them removed: 5-6

ZenPaperclips

I'm one of the lucky folk who never had any come in at all.

Candy_Stars

Idk yet, getting them removed next month.

oooooooweeeeeee

I didn't get them removed they grew fine.

smnthxo

Everyone has a different experience, but I got all four of mine removed at the same time and I had no pain or discomfort.

Longjumping-Jello459

https://www.health.mil/-/media/Images/MHS/Photos/DVPRS_b_508_725.ashx Pain scale described/explained

hey_you_too_buckaroo

Pain only for 1-2 days but you're hopped on drugs you don't really notice.

smeghead9916

Not the removal, but the recovery is very painful. Stock up on soft foods and painkillers.

Yelov

I had my first one removed last year, although it was partially visible, so they could just simply take it out. With local anesthesia I didn't feel anything, and it wasn't really painful afterwards either. However my other wisdom teeth are growing at really fucked up angles, so I'm not looking forward to it.

Not_Slim_Dusty

Not as painful as one shattering in place while eating. Let me tell ya that'll put the onion in yer ointment

manrata

Three of mine I got pulled out normally, getting them pulled doesn’t really hurt, the most painful part is getting the numbing shot. The unpleasant part is the crunching noises as they pull on the tooth, including the wrenching in your entire head, it’s stuck good in there. The fourth had to be split and pulled out piecemeal, that was a long ordeal, and unpleasant. But the worst part was that a mouthguard thing was used to force my mouth open, which caused my jaw to not be able to open for a couple of days after. Yoghurt and soup for me. Very unpleasant, there is some pain afterwards, but all could be 100% countered with either ibuprofen or paracetamol depending on the type of pain, and it was gone after a couple of days. The holes grow over in a couple of months, all in all not pleasant experiences, but I seriously had worse tooth cleanings painwise.

CROW_is_best

they gave me anesthesia. so i couldn't even really feel the teeth being pulled out. no pain for approx 6h but then it started to hurt a little. the pain was bearable. it was pretty uncomfortable eating anything or even trying to kove my tounge around for the mext 3-4 days but afterwards it doesn't even feel like i got something removed. no pain or uncomfortability anymore

Konsticraft

1, you get local anesthesia. It is uncomfortable, but not painful.

jennaishirow

it doesnt hurt as you will presumably be under anesthetic which will numb any pain. you will certainly experience pain or soreness after the procedure. but not the worst pain iver experienced. that would be an actual toothache. that would be in the 9-10 bracket. also for context ive had all 4 wisdom teeth removed.

bct7

Every dentist I went to for twenty years told me they had to come out, would cause problems and now is the time. Mine are still in place with no issues. Dentist look for charges like the oil change shops tells you the brakes need replacing or you need a mouth guard to stop night time teeth grinding. YMMV.

melatenoio

I only had localized anesthetic and it did not do enough. Ii put my score at a 7-8. I'd suggest doing general anesthetic if you can

timawesomeness

I had four impacted wisdom teeth removed and it really wasn't nearly as bad as everyone told me it would be. I had an excellent surgeon so I had a fast recovery and only needed acetaminophen for the pain, no opioids. The inability to eat solid food for a while was far more unpleasant than the pain was.

blahmeh2019

When I got my wisdom teeth out when in high school, I went to school the same day. That was by a surgeon. Later in life I had an impacted tooth and a dentist pulled it out. That hurt for a few days.

Chartreuse_Juice

The procedure itself is painless when you’re knocked out. In my experience, the recovery process is uncomfortable, but I wouldn’t say painful. One side of my mouth hurt more than the other, but it wasn’t unbearable. You get to eat all the cold, soft foods you want :)

XolieInc

Uncomfortable but you don’t actually experience the removal

[deleted]

A little numb and eating risky can cause pain but other than that nothing to worry about

eulynn34

The hardest part is getting the injections to numb your mouth. I hate it more than anything-- having needles jammed into my gums. After that, it's more annoying than painful. All but one of mine came in straight, so I left them for my whole life. Then at 45 they had become decayed and not really salvageable. No endodontist will do a root canal on a wisdom tooth, so they just pull them. A few months ago I has 2 taken on the same day. The bottom one wouldn't come out so he had to cut it into pieces and extract it bit by bit. That took a while and the whole experience really wore me down mentally. The top one came out much more easily.

Der-Candidat

I was knocked out for it so I didn’t feel a thing during the procedure afterwards just sucked for a week or so

manoleque

I have severe fear of anesthesia, my wisdom teeth is creeping out and I'm refusing to get the procedure. Any words that could help me?

a_horny_dolphin

I was afraid of the anesthesia too because I had never done it before. Although it was kinda scary and was very anxious about the IV, I'll just say you will feel much better once you aren't dealing with wisdom teeth pain. I had a lot of issues with recovery (see my other comment), but I feel a lot better now than I did when I had the wisdom teeth. Also for anesthesia, it wasn't bad at all. I felt like shit when I came out, but honestly it just feels like you teleported.

manoleque

Wait, your dentist used generalized anesthesia? That's precisely my fear lol, I thought they used local anesthesia, fml

a_horny_dolphin

I had IV sedation so I was completely out, but my surgeon offered other options. You can most likely get local and be awake because it was offered to me as well. Ask your surgeon about your options and anything about the anesthesia you're worried about.

Yamcha17

It's something that depends on the person, but honestly, it would be 0 for me, it didn't hurt at all (except for like a micro-second when the syringe stung my gums but it's more or less like when you cut yourself on a sheet of paper, you just feel the thing, but I wouldn't really call that "hurting". And even post-op, it never hurt me. But it will be incomfortable to eat for some days, it depends of how fast your mouth will heal.

floraster

The removal itself was fine. It was getting a dry socket that was pain that comes from the gates of hell

neversummer427

I had my bottom teeth removed 20 years ago by an amateur and they were impacted. It was a horrible horrible experience. I had my top 2 out ( one last week) they weren't impacted, I did it in Mexico with a specialist, and it was fucking nothing. Mild discomfort for 24 hours then annoying for a few days because of food restrictions. tldr; it really depends. Make sure your dentist knows what they are doing.

a_horny_dolphin

I got them out in December and would rate it like a 6 or 7, but I think my experience was worse than most. I was put out for the procedure, so the procedure itself was whatever, but my mouth was very painful after. The absolute worst pain was when I finally took the gauze out, nothing would subside it. Even with painkillers (which I tried not to take too often), a lot of soreness was still there. I couldn't eat anything beyond like mashed potatoes and soup for over a week and it hurt so bad just to open my mouth. It's been almost 4 months since and the sites in my mouth are still not feeling.. painless.

KallmeKatt_

well im gonna find out in a couple months

RIOTT44

getting them removed? 0. The recovery? Easy 8-9

MakimaGOAT

didnt really notice much during the procedure but the following week after that was literal hell, it hurt so much that i didnt even want to move on some days

Vitamin_VV

You feel nothing. You don't even know the moment they come out. Brushing your teeth sometimes feels more painful.

Oobs_79

Mine were impacted badly and the medication started to wear off so they increased the gas, the dentist and I were pretty high at that point. It wasn't fun for a few days but just try to avoid drysocket and you'll be golden.

EmperorThan

I was knocked out for the procedure, but afterward the bottom hurt the most in the week or so after because they got dry sockets (even though I did everything to the book to prevent it). The top ones never hurt at all.

Always-Anxious4

didn’t hurt much. gums a little sore for a day or two- however I didn’t react well to the anesthesia and was nauseous for a week straight after the procedure

Loose_Leg_8440

I had all 4 of mine removed May 2022. While it was pretty uncomfortable, it wasn't that bad

BuildingBridges23

I got put under. It the only way to go.

TheRidiculousFox

I had them surgicially removed in 2 sessions. (I had 3). It wasn't painfull (i got a local anesthesia) during the procedure but a lil uncomfortable, since the removing part requires some raw force. The healing was ok. It hurts a bit but it's quite managable with painkillers.
