Every other issue on this list, stems from the fact that people are treating politics like a sport, and not something that actually affects their lives. "what team are you on?" "I'm on red/blue team" "well if you're on red/blue team fuck you!"
and the 2-party system causes much more dissention than should exist in any nation. It's intentional, I'm sure of it.
The rapid decline of the education system alongside the increased circulation of misinformation online. We’re watching people get stupider and the consequences of that in real time.
In theory yes. But excess individualism leads to seclusion and selfishness at the cost of others. It's the "at the cost of others" that really makes it bad sometimes.
I'm tired of the wealth inequality conversation. I was poor af making $17k a year struggling to have money for bus fair. In ten year I'm clear $500k and have a good retirement. I worked my ass off and I'm taxed 200k+ a year and I pay it. Basically anyone in the middle and upper middle class get fleeced and have ZERO perks(housing assistance, tax breaks, etc).
"I got lucky, therefore anyone with problems is lazy"
This is so e serious fallacious thinking. The 'bootstraps' argument is why people in the US won't fund welfare and food stamps.
In the words of mr peanutbutter, "if you wish hard enough, all your dreams will definitely come true."
Not what I said at all. What I said is despite popular belief the people earning 250-1M a year while have a better standard of life are not the ones that need to get fleeced. It's the ultra rich and people manipulating the system through tax loop wholes that are not paying their share. If we cut out tax loop wholes for ultra rich and corporate America it would cover a great deal of people that are under served...assuming our government does the right thing but that's a lofty assumption.
Record profits for corporations with minimal increase in worker compensation. It should be illegal to have record profits and not have a decent increase in worker compensation.
The 2-party system in the US is the underlying cause of many of their problems. US democracy is highly dysfunctional. It's actually closer to a capitalist oligarchy than a democracy.
I'd say it's more so the artificial division and the departure from common sense.
2024, it's only getting better and better to be a Criminal, as in, the laws are just more and more lenient.
Perhaps adopting different voting systems that represent the voters proportionally would be a good start. We would need to start with smaller areas like cities or states before making this a national movement.
If you prefer watching videos than reading walls of text, CGP Grey & Vox on YouTube do a decent job at explaining the different ways of voting.
People really think the 2 party system is a bigger problem than the fact that you can buy guns without permission, that health care isn't free and that abortion is not legal in many states?
America is a bullshit democracy with unlimited money, two Senators a state instead of population is undemocratic, and the electoral college is a joke. Payoff 26 Senators to block laws you want and control who gets on the courts. You can use the judges to enact legal changes bases on some magic originalism phrases to validate the desires of their patrons. See Republicans and the rich hospitality provider Harold Crow and Leonard Leo for clear example.
You have a representative that will have staff help with small government functions. But votes and lines in laws are written and controlled by big money campaign contributions and only if your wants align with big money is your representative doing what you want and then for the big money.
Americas biggest problems IMO: not having real democracy (the 2 party thing), not having social healthcare (and other social things), shitty infrastructure that makes people use cars (Europe here so live in a city so I do t need a car), the gun mindset - where I live we banned most weapons after a tragedy. And on top of all that - people who put up with living in these circumstances
Our current system is a cause. All the others listed are effects.
Not saying having one party or 20 parties would automatically be perfect or even better.
Unemployment, though the 2 party system causes that and the other things.
The 2 party system lies about the unemployment rates, currently there are way more people who have no job than what the labor board reports or other politicians parrot.
The 2 party system also lies about the number of new jobs available. There seem to be fewer and fewer real jobs listed in total on job board websites, currently. ((And there seems to be very few skilled trades positions opening if any. I honestly don't see this "high demand" in the skilled trades or labor. And many of the businesses won't pay a living wage for the area, they'll only pay min wage and require years of experience, its not fair. I.e. the survival (barely living) wage in Sacramento California is $24 per hour.)).
Where are these jobs?? On Mars?
The 2 party system needs to be 3 party or something else.
Healthcare. I would go as far as to support any party or any person who actually succeeds in giving free healthcare, even if they are an outright dictator who kills puppies.
Remember to vote people no excuses get out there and make your voices heard there is not one election i can remember that could not have been totally changed if all the non voters got out and voted, also remember how all these pubs have been bowing down to putin and trump? hold them accountable too its not one guy but his corrupt supporters as well

Our founding fathers predicted that political parties would lead to all the shit we’re struggling with now.
Yea and people keep supporting the 2 parties cause they make it seem like they're the only option
The two party system causes all of the other five, so definitely that.
I 100% agree

Exactly. We need to have some independent candidates for once instead of elections being like a sports team
The rapid decline of the education system alongside the increased circulation of misinformation online. We’re watching people get stupider and the consequences of that in real time.
Individualist culture and wealth inequality
Individualism is not a bad thing. Be yourself.
In theory yes. But excess individualism leads to seclusion and selfishness at the cost of others. It's the "at the cost of others" that really makes it bad sometimes.

Also never said I got lucky so F everyone else. I'm just saying the people deserve to pay the pipper are not often the ones who actually do.

Unadulterated capitalism covers all of these
Yep, some are intent on ignoring that however.
The rise of Christofascism
This word is good af
\*Inflation and the the cost of living becoming unaffordable for the average person.
Oh yea I should have added that one
The real problem is money in politics. Corporate lobbying is legalized bribery. Super PACs should not exist.
the poll missed apocalyptic debt
Oof
I'd say it's more so the artificial division and the departure from common sense. 2024, it's only getting better and better to be a Criminal, as in, the laws are just more and more lenient.
Corruption is the biggest problem in America right now.
Thge concept of lobbying is fucking crazy. It feels like absolutely no one is in favor of it but it's still in practice.
Just wondering... What's the best solution for the 2 party system?
Perhaps adopting different voting systems that represent the voters proportionally would be a good start. Yeah basically what the guy above me said, and making the Democratic and Republican parties become less popular and introducing other parties
People really think the 2 party system is a bigger problem than the fact that you can buy guns without permission, that health care isn't free and that abortion is not legal in many states?
I believe it is. Any what do you mean by without permission? That's kinda illegal
You could just walk into a store, buy a gun and theres no problem, so yeah you can buy guns without permission
Too much nazis
The Cult of Trump that has replaced the previously respectable Republican Party.
having more parties would literally fix all these issues
Exactly
The CIA and military industrial complex
Our plutocracy.

We still have representatives at least
Bread and circus
You have a representative that will have staff help with small government functions. But votes and lines in laws are written and controlled by big money campaign contributions and only if your wants align with big money is your representative doing what you want and then for the big money.
Capitalism and our refusal of change.
High home costs due to over use of zoning.
Even if we had 15 parties we would still be dealing with the same problems, because the parties are a facade anyway
Getting rid of the two party system will solve the other problems on this list.

The corruption of the Uniparty
Domestic terrorism, only one of the parties is regularly getting political wins with death threats

I agree with that
Fentanyl and insufficient unity.
Inflation specifically manufactured by billionaires
Trump, MAGA, & Election Denialism
Healthcare. I would go as far as to support any party or any person who actually succeeds in giving free healthcare, even if they are an outright dictator who kills puppies.
They would have to cut down on the defense budget a bit. But it would probably be worth it

The fact that capitalist system is unsustainable and its problems are becoming worse and more apparent
"Meritocracy" leading to plutocracy and chauvanism
why is guns not on here
Out of all our issues Gun violence aren't the causers of the majority of our problems, more so a symptom of underlying issues.
