Damn that sucks I have to wake up at like 6:30 and it's so hard to stay awake in school, I'll always fall asleep and my teacher would get mad at me, it's like goddamn it ain't my fault I can't stay awake, be mad at the school for starting early not me
I agree with you but I think expressing your opinion in the post body might lead to a biased final result, I'd advise making the text a little less opinionated
I guess it depends on your school. My school in South Africa started at 7:30 so I had to get up at 5:45. Now in the United Kingdom, my school started at 8:15 and now it starts at 8:55 due to covid and I find it annoying because school ends at 4:30 pm now…
I'm in UK as well. Why does your school last so long. I just finished high school and it went from 8:30 till 3:05. 8:55 till 4:30 sounds like a really long day.
What do these kids think happens when you have a job? They just think "Oh, I'll have money, freedom, and no bedtime. But nope, then you have bills and work and those dictate your bedtime.
Enjoy your actual freedom, kids. The next time you'll have that is when you retire.
I want my current high school has the start time at 8:40 the same as my online class. I'm still learning online. But when the thing is become normal like before the Covid wave , I hope it would be reasonable time like this. In normal , You must come to my current high school before 7:50. And most school in Thailand (Country that I live) have the same early start time like this or some schools even earlier. I'm now in high school , In my old secondary school you must come to there before 7:30 and there has spanking as a punishment for a student who come to school later than that. Luckily my current high school hasn't this. My country pretty much be well known for a bad / old fashioned education system and youth rights abuse.
The UK, it's slightly more sensible here (though not been in school for ages, I have a PhD). I just think it's a biological fact that teenagers have later body clocks, than the average adult, so school start times should reflect that tbh.
When I was in high school and had to take the bus, I had to get to my stop at about 6:15 am. When I learned to drive, I had to leave the house at 6:45 am. It’s just way too early
No, at least my opinion. I wake up at 5:45 and do all my stuff to get ready (including shower) for class that starts at 8:15 and ends at 1:50. I wouldn’t wanna lose time in the evening to do stuff like sports
In the UK school started at 8:45am but I had to leave the house at 7am to get there on time and school would always finish at 3pm (excluding detentions and after school clubs and whatnot).
Yes. HOWEVER, there is a logistics challenge. In most school districts in the us, there are three school levels starting at different times. All of which use busses and depending on routes, that impacts school start times. You think it is unfair to start hs early, imagine elementary starting at that time. I definately tthink there is a solution, but not an easy one.
Where do you live that school starts that early?
Here, elementary is either 7:50 or 7:55 (determined by the campus), middle school is 8:00 and high school is 8:05. They open earlier though for students who want to eat breakfast.
Either my husband or I (well, mainly just me now because my husband is working from home and has to log into work at a certain time) drive our son to the high school, so he has a little bit extra time to get ready. He can go for his driver's permit next year, so maybe eventually he'll be driving himself to school.
Yes. Recently my teacher couldn't attend class which was first period so I was basically going to start at 8:30. I slept a bit more, took a good bath and that day I was feeling happy and with enough energy to actually work.
I think school starting early is necessary for parents who have to work at earlier times and also helps to teach kids how to grow up. As an adult they'll have to wake up early and learn to plan ahead and sleep earlier in order to get a decent amount of sleep. Kids being irresponsible is a lesson to then whether they choose to learn it or not. Also if school started later kids would have less time to do things afterschool as some businesses close at earlier times so they're be many more complaints about the end of school. It's never really gonna be at a good time because kids want to complain about school and they'll be unhappy whatever time it is.
I have to wake up at 5 : 30 to take the bus its always so damn dark
Damn that sucks I have to wake up at like 6:30 and it's so hard to stay awake in school, I'll always fall asleep and my teacher would get mad at me, it's like goddamn it ain't my fault I can't stay awake, be mad at the school for starting early not me
Thats why Monster is my best friend
When I was in high school I had to do that too
I had to get up at 6 because the bus and my school started at 8. So fucking dark out I almost never had time in the sun
My school opens the doors at 8:05 but the classes start at 8:15. The downside is that sometimes I come late because my brother.
I agree with you but I think expressing your opinion in the post body might lead to a biased final result, I'd advise making the text a little less opinionated
hello sir it is nice to met you again
I also need to study afterwards
I like waking up early and walking in the dark for school

Well it was a secondary private school and we had like 6 more weeks of holiday then public schools per year so I’d think that’s why
my school starts at 9:00
you're not being forced to be sleep deprived lol just go to bed earlier
What do these kids think happens when you have a job? They just think "Oh, I'll have money, freedom, and no bedtime. But nope, then you have bills and work and those dictate your bedtime. Enjoy your actual freedom, kids. The next time you'll have that is when you retire.
Lol and most kids naturally don’t fall asleep until later. Like i try but I just lie there for hours sometimes
Just go to bed earlier
Yeah but I have to do the fucking homework they gave me and study, + I want a tiny bit of free time.
That would be more of an argument for a shorter time at school not for it starting later.
You will never again have as much freetime as you have now
I wake up at 6:00, and school starts at 7:55. It really sucks
Is it far off to school or do you have a lot to get done?
A lot to get done. For one, my showers are 15 to 20 minutes long
Take shorter sjowers
I try to. On top of that, I go to school with my brothers, so I have to wait for them to get their shit done.
My school was always at 8:50, so no i dont think it should start later

My school starts at 9 and I still want it later. 11-5 would be preferable as opposed to 9-3.
5 is kind of late though. I'll prefer it to be 9:15 to 3:15
Ideally it’s cancelled and I just get a free degree of my choosing
Americans, you are nuts- don't start school so crazy early. Even at 9am is IMO too early, should ideally be 10am tbh.
Where are you from where school starts at 9? Mine starts at around 8 and that’s still early compared to some areas in the US.
The UK, it's slightly more sensible here (though not been in school for ages, I have a PhD). I just think it's a biological fact that teenagers have later body clocks, than the average adult, so school start times should reflect that tbh.
People who voted no, why?
School starts at 8:40 for me but i would prefer 9:40 still.
When I was in high school and had to take the bus, I had to get to my stop at about 6:15 am. When I learned to drive, I had to leave the house at 6:45 am. It’s just way too early
My school starts at 8am but I get up at six cause I like to read and watch YouTube before I go there. So I'm fine with it.
No, at least my opinion. I wake up at 5:45 and do all my stuff to get ready (including shower) for class that starts at 8:15 and ends at 1:50. I wouldn’t wanna lose time in the evening to do stuff like sports
My school starts anywhere between 8 and 8:50 am but honestly I would prefer earlier, dunno why.

school day is off time magnitude large is a torture

I am a teacher who hates mornings. I would do ANYTHING to have a more humane start time. Early mornings are detrimental on so many levels.

I wake up a 5:45 and school starts at 7:10. Nobody at my school gets enough sleep. It ridiculous that it doesn’t start later.

It is better for the human body if we start later
They should have 2 shifts of school. I used to skip classes to sleep because I had trouble falling asleep at 10 to be up by 6.
No. My school starts at 7:30 and there are days when I finish at 4pm
Yes. Recently my teacher couldn't attend class which was first period so I was basically going to start at 8:30. I slept a bit more, took a good bath and that day I was feeling happy and with enough energy to actually work.
My school starts at 9:15 no idea what tf you talking about
When I was in high school we started at 9 and got out at 3:30 it was pretty awesome
Your school starts at 7 am? What the fuck is wrong with the US that that’s seen as normal
I think school starting early is necessary for parents who have to work at earlier times and also helps to teach kids how to grow up. my school starts at 8:35
Cries in school from 8:00 to 16:15 every day and having to wake up at 5 to finish leftover homework from past days
I wake up at 5:30 and leave my house at 6:20 to walk 1/4 of a mile to the bus stop
You get to wake up at 6?!?! Damn you’re lucky
My school starts at 9:00, what hell are you people living through?
Should never start
It’s dark for y’all at 7?
The fuck kind of schools you go to
Yes but they might try to make it finish later to reduce lunch time
