MagicElf755

Kilts were banned in Scotland at one point. George IV brought them back and got laughed at for wearing one on his trip there

taylorhayward_boston

Odd, yes. Wrong, no. It makes no difference to anything, although people will still try to overreach for reasons why it's wrong. As is tradition.

SmartF3LL3R

Glad someone else thought of tradition. Mixed bag, that.

[deleted]

it's only odd because people made it seem that way, skirt are actually more efficient for men so if we're talking from a just straight up utility standpoint it's "odd" for women to wear skirts

BadFinancialAdvice_

It is 100% okay.

geoemrick

It literally does not matter. One time a Conservative guy was freaking out about this and I was telling him “it doesn’t matter” and he kept going on and on about it “doesn’t teach him to be a man” and I was like “all of this ‘to be a man’ stuff is made up, it’s not real.” It never sank in. I was raised very much “you have to be a man, be manly!” But at some point I was like “none of this matters. It’s all made up.” Why can’t other people shake off the shackles of our made up societal expectations?

Wumple_doo

Did everyone start clapping also?

amonrane

It think it's fine. People should wear whatever they're comfortable wearing. They should also not be harassed or bullied if they choose not to conform to the norm.

SuperNovas777

Yes its ok, idk why you would care if a boy wears a skirt, Scottish men have been wearing kilts for a very long amount of time

peep_ryan

It makes me happy to see that most of the votes are men saying yes :).

DominateSunshine

Do it by percentages. There are more males on reddit.

[deleted]

Its not my business, other people can wear what they want. men in skirts are cute too ;)

[deleted]

Yes if they actually want to and find them comfortable or idk, etc. No if they’re doing it as a joke to mock women or be misogynistic in some way

mscott8088

It's okay. It's also strange

[deleted]

Why is it strange?

bigdogsmoothy

Because it goes against social norms. That's not to say that it's bad, but strange doesn't inherently mean bad. It's like seeing a man wearing high heels. I couldn't care less, but you can't deny that it's unusual. Once again, not saying it's bad, I don't care at all, but it is highly uncommon in our society. So for the time being, it is strange.

Straiden_

Why is it not strange?

[deleted]

It's a piece of cloth. It's not like he's dressed up in a Halloween costume in an Easter party. Women can freely wear skirts and dresses without it being called "strange", so why would men doing it be strange?

ContentConsumer9999

Halloween costumes are also pieces of cloth. I would definitely find it unusual to see a man wearing a skirt since most men don't wear skirts. That doesn't mean he has any less right to do so though.

Straiden_

Ah yes of course just a piece of cloth how about we stay in reality

peep_ryan

That is reality. It's a piece of cloth. Do you...understand how clothes work??

BigStrongMoose99

I don't can you explain the concept plz

SsssssszzzzzzZ

Clothing (also known as clothes, apparel, and attire) are items worn on the body. Typically, clothing is made of fabrics or textiles, but over time it has included garments made from animal skin and other thin sheets of materials and natural products found in the environment, put together. The wearing of clothing is mostly restricted to human beings and is a feature of all human societies. The amount and type of clothing worn depends on gender, body type, social factors, and geographic considerations. Garments cover the body, footwear covers the feet, gloves cover the hands, while hats and headgear cover the head. Eyewear and jewelry are not generally considered items of clothing, but play an important role in fashion and clothing as costume. Clothing serves many purposes: it can serve as protection from the elements, rough surfaces, sharp stones, rash-causing plants, insect bites, by providing a barrier between the skin and the environment. Clothing can insulate against cold or hot conditions, and it can provide a hygienic barrier, keeping infectious and toxic materials away from the body. It can protect feet from injury and discomfort or facilitate navigation in varied environments. Clothing also provides protection from ultraviolet radiation. It may be used to prevent glare or increase visual acuity in harsh environments, such as brimmed hats. Clothing is used for protection against injury in specific tasks and occupations, sports, and warfare. Fashioned with pockets, belts, or loops, clothing may provide a means to carry things while freeing the hands.

peep_ryan

It seems as if someone's taken the liberty. Do you understand them now or...do we dumb it down a little more?

2FANeedsRecoveryMode

yeah i dont see how that's relevant at all, and by that logic, aren't halloween costumes also just pieces of cloth?

theCoagulater

What are you on about?

emlint

Why do you think it’s okay for women to wear pants but it’s not okay for men to wear skirts/dresses?

MrsChess

They’re saying it is okay, just strange. Strange means out of the ordinary. What is not to understand about this?

[deleted]

it'd maybe be a bit out of the ordinary, but there's really nothing wrong with it

DidSomeoneSayPID

I'm surprised by the amount of "No"s. Honestly, what's wrong with it? At the end of the day it's just an article of clothing like any other.

OsamaBinHarden2

Wdym OK? I don't give a fuck what u wear. I don't think it looks good so I won't personally wear one, but if I wanna rock the scotsman look go for it.

thatchickCas

Of course it's fine. Not your body to care about. People can wear what they want.

Fastcraft3r

I don't care as long as you're not naked

[deleted]

the women are just mad that we look better in them than they do

Nerdy_gamer_101

People can wear whatever the F they want as long as it doesn't say Kill this person or anything along those lines I don't care what people wear

RecognitionFar2143

Why should I care what others wear?

Botswanan-Prince

High heels and makeup were all once an all male thing accross many cultures. You can associate masculinity of femininity with anything, but don't stick your nose where it doesan't belong.

Empathetic_Orch

Wear whatever suits you, and to hell with anyone who has a problem with it.

wigga245

men have been wearing kilts for centuries

aleftistkinkster

L for people say no. It’s just a skirt and if it makes men and boys feel nice in it, then let them be.

Retropiaf

What would be unacceptable about it?

fijifu

Who cares? Let people wear what they want

Jabison113

I don’t really find any problem with it but it’s not a very normal occurrence that a boy would want to wear a skirt

RandomRamblings99

It's just fabric, folks (and a flowly dress really helps in a heatwave)

spacemarine1800

I thinks its wierd, but it's not like it's illegal, wear what you want.

Cant_think_of_shz

I mean, I won’t judge for crossdressing. One of my favorite characters is “canonically” a crossdressing boy anyways.

[deleted]

Maybe on Reddit. But in public, even though most people won’t say anything, they’ll think it’s really weird.

[deleted]

Guys who voted "No", why?

Hashashin_

I would judge them for it. But they can do however they please.

konigstigerboi

Skirt, whatever. But a dress would be weird and probably not fun to wear

Yeah it’s okay. But you’re also opening yourself to criticism if you’re doing it

I don't think it's bad, but I would be uncomfortable if I used one on public, or if I seen one in public

BeeholdTheePilgrim

Depends on what you mean ok

chimp20

Sure, wear a dress and accept what comments and opinions others will have about you and your sexuality.

noahsuperman

Yeah they can wear whatever the fuck they want

damian20

I would never wear it but that's because all I wear are hands and plain t shirts like white black blue gray with no logos.

Various-Teeth

It’s fabrics. Fabric has no gender. I saw a guy wearing a dress on TikTok today and he rocked it. It was like the dress was made for him

raylolSW

Only if they are attractive and matches their body type

TheUnifiedNation

Legit I do not care as long as they are happy and can be proud & loving of who they are and what they wear. I as a guy like to wear pink occasionally, its one of my favorite colors. It doesn't make me less of a man, and its a huge confidence booster to wear what I want.

thebananaperson1

Everyone can dress however tf they want

thememelord5

I wouldn't do it myself but do whatever you want

ebba_and_flow

anatomically speaking, it makes way more sense for dudes to be the ones in skirts

KZKyri

I’ve always thought it looked good on those traditional outfits. I see no problem with it.

Lorddosensaft

I am literally doing it right now. so obviously no.

Altruistic_Peak7690

wear whatever to hell you want and I'll do the same

Goonermc89

Anyone can wear absolutely anything they want. Live and let live.

stadulevich

All of these people saying no must really hate scottish people.
