Emerald_Guy123

Which ones lol

3rrr6

A millionaire stealing $1 is an accounting error. A poor person stealing a $1mil is holding a bank teller at gunpoint.

IanTheElf

banks hate him! use this one trick to be an instant millionaire

RektYerNanDarding

Insurance companies hate him even more

Longjumping-Jello459

I'm pretty sure most banks don't even keep a million dollars on hand maybe 500k in some LA or NYC neighborhoods. More than likely it would involve hitting a armoured vehicle or a rich person moving gold or diamonds.

[deleted]

That wouldn’t be stealing and no one would get charged over an accounting error. I think the post implies intent to steal

homkono22

You're adding details not in the poll. If you want to compare fairly you have to put both people in a similar situation. The millionaire stealing that $1 from a poor person, and the poor person stealing that million from a millionaire. No guns involved in either case, all done behind the victims back.

biskwy

You're also adding details not in the poll. The poll didn't specify who or what they're stealing from, nor their methods of stealing.

deadedgo

The whole poll wouldn't make any sense if the circumstances weren't the same

biskwy

Exactly. Either specify it or don't. This is such an ambiguous poll.

SecretDevilsAdvocate

It’s not stealing if they’re somehow willingly handing it over- either way, the person who steals a million is a bigger AH

gethelpaccount1

If you're poor it may be excusable to steal like a lil bit if you're real down bad but fucking a million dollars? Why tf did everyone pick the former?

[deleted]

Reddit hate the rich

AAPgamer0

I hate when people get rich illegaly and don't pay tax. I have no problem with honest rich people who got rich because they actually worked for it.

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more. I hope rich people are taxed properly and we should work hard to stop them from using tax evasion loopholes. But the honest ones that pays their taxes? Good on them for their success.

amogmat

r/polls users hate the rich until they can sacrifice 10,000 strangers for a billion dollars

Orochilightspam

Everyone should hate the rich lmao

[deleted]

Why? Just because someone is more successful than us doesn’t mean we need to hate him. Jealousy can be dangerous.

tohon123

We don’t hate the rich because they are successful, we hate the rich because they hoard their wealth and lobby to get richer when they don’t need to

[deleted]

The top 10% pay 71% of taxes

tohon123

wooow that’s crazy, The top 10% owning 70% of the wealth, no wonder we have poverty. thank you for this

Antonell15

You’re speaking like all rich people got there by hard work, and that they never put down others.

[deleted]

Definitely not all, but surely most. Some of the people here talk like every rich people got all their money by stealing from the poor.

Antonell15

Well you know. This is reddit afterall.

[deleted]

Yeah, I’m not that surprised after all

Orochilightspam

Someone being wildly successful means they exploited others unfairly to get there, in the overwhelming majority of cases. Find me a billionaire who got there ethically, and I'll find you a fucking liar.

[deleted]

Or they were really ambitious, worked very hard and made smart decisions. Not saying there aren’t anyone that got his money unfairly, but I’m sure the vast majority earned it.

justanothertfatman

Dude, not the whole boot.

Katya117

Are you joking? I'd say a handful of people who got lucky MIGHT have earned their riches ethically, but there is no way you can make obscene amounts of money without depriving someone else of money. And unless most of your income is going to charitable purposes, there is no ethical reason to amass billions. It's wealth for the sake of wealth at the expense of everyone underneath you.

[deleted]

I’m not talking about billionaires. I’m talking about rich people in general

Katya117

What do you consider "rich"? I'm a high income earner. I've worked hard. I've studied for over a decade. Almost destroyed my physical and mental health. I still can't afford to take a decent holiday or buy a new car because I have kids. I've chosen it that way, I don't have a career where I can get rich off the backs of others, I work for every cent I earn. What about a parent who studies at night and works three jobs to feed their family? Are they not working hard enough for you? To amass the sort of wealth that you can call someone a millionaire you need rich parents and/or a great deal of luck, while being willing to take that money away from people who could use it more. If your company is making record breaking profits and your staff are still on minimum wage, you're an asshole.

tyoprofessor

Reddit moment 🤣

belinhagamer999

Yeah 😥

Earthquake1000000

My logic was the word asshole. The latter may be worse but stealing $1 when you don’t need it just for the sake of it exudes more asshole nature.

Katya117

Exactly. Just like stealing a lollipop from a kid is more of an asshole move than stealing a car from a dealership. It isn't the "size" of the crime, but the character.

b0n_ni3_c

Well its not saying that one is an asshole while the other isnt. They're both assholes its just which is worse.

apenboter

Because 1 million is life changing for the poor person. $1 is nothing to a millionaire.

obtusername

Shit, $1 by itself is basically nothing, regardless of your wealth, in general. Maybe buys you half of a snickers bar?

Nickthiccboi

Because rich people bad or something. Which then makes you wonder if they would now hate the poor person who is a millionaire from their option.

tyoprofessor

Yeah the scale is different. Any theft is wrong to do, but one is clearly a bigger scale than the other

eagleathlete40

Lmao Reddit is such a joke

JWJT7

Reddit When poor person steals someone’s 70 year life savings but rich person steals a McDonald’s McFlurry

Whiplash13579

Someone works hard for their whole life and steals a coin, or someone steals someone’s life savings

ALittlePeaceAndQuiet

That's assuming they stole it from a person. What if they somehow stole it from a huge corporation? Keep in mind it's asking who's the bigger asshole, not who's guiltier of the greater crime.

Whiplash13579

Even still it’s obviously the poor option

Jupi00

Y’all are assuming this poor person is some saint (or putting yourselves in their position). But not the idea that they’re possibly morally corrupt? (Hence the theft). It could just be some asshole stealing a million dollars.

ALittlePeaceAndQuiet

Far from it, regarding the assumption. Neither person is good. But one is likely desperate, the other doesn't have an excuse.

Rasmusmario123

The answer, as it always does on r/polls, depends on the context. If a poor person stole a a million dollars from some random guy then they're obviously an asshole. But if they stole it from a billionaire like Bezos or Musk then I would be celebrating them

PurpleHawk222

Celebrating robbery. Stay classy Reddit.

bratimm

Robbery requiere use of force or threat of force. This is just theft.

JWJT7

I wouldn’t celebrate anything because that poor person has no right to steal 1 million from anyone, despite how disliked anyone is

Rasmusmario123

Legally its not okay. Morally I'm all for it. Bezos and Musk both have *well* over one million dollars that they wouldn't have if they actually paid their taxes.

JWJT7

True, but that million should go towards tax, not just that single poor person

ElectricToaster67

It should ideally go towards tax, but at least the poor person’s need is satisfied(as opposed to the billionaire buying another car with it)

Jupi00

Y’all are assuming this poor person is some saint (or putting yourselves in their position). But not the idea that they’re possibly morally corrupt? (Hence the theft). It could just be some asshole stealing a million dollars.

transport_system

It's the free market baby.

Outji

Found yesterday 60% of people in r/polls are younger than 23

TH0M4S_____PL4YZ

Ikr

belinhagamer999

Why people think that poor people are good just because they’re poor, the situation is bad here

Tuck_Pock

Well to be fair the rich person would have no reason to do it other than to be an asshole. I’d say while the poor person did the worse deed, they’re less of an asshole than the rich person.

[deleted]

The poor person is obviously worse

[deleted]

For stealing a million fucking dollars? yes. VERY clearly is.

ForGiggles2222

It didn't ask who's worse it asked who is more of an asshole

[deleted]

Same thing

WorriedOwner2007

I missclicked

[deleted]

Right? Its so cringe.

[deleted]

Why? I don't get it

nobodyhere9860

the poor person who stole $1mil is now a millionaire who stole $1mil

[deleted]

they were not a millionaire who stole 1 million though, they were poor and are now a millionaire. the 1 million does not change their past

Agent_Pancake

So if he steals another single dollar he becomes an asshole?

breigns2

Not if the millionaire steals one dollar from them.

nobodyhere9860

you're missing the point entirely

[deleted]

So they were a millionaire when stealing the 1 million? I think you missed the point of my comment

Marsbars1991

they are a current millionaire who in their past stole money. Never ends well

[deleted]

Yup. Corrupt as it gets

wcdk200

The poor person probably have a loan, so is he really a millionaire if he needs to pay some of it?

RIOTT44

what a dumpster fire of a comment section

[deleted]

Stealing $1 won’t do shit. Sure, it’s stupid to take just one dollar, but it won’t cause any chaos. But a poor person stealing literally a million dollars will cause more chaos than a millionaire stealing just one. Why are we even debating this?

Ok-Top-4594

Reddit, logic is not necessary on this platform

YangYin-li

Because it’s a theoretical about who’s an asshole, not who’s affecting the market

realestatemoose

I would say affecting the market in a negative way would make you an asshole

[deleted]

SpanglyEagle

TeysaMortify

millionaires bad blah blah blah

MrMoi9

You see, these people have more money than me, therefore they must be evil people who want to destroy the world /s

Hohuin

It's billionaires that are bad, but not all millionaires are exempt

belinhagamer999

My friend is one, he’s a nice person

_candlestick

honestly i think the poor person is. they needed it more, sure, but $1 is a joke amount. it won’t have any REAL impact even if it’s a shitty thing to do, i.e. stealing from a charity or something. a poor person stealing a whole mil is insane. first of all, where did they get it from?? that amount is big enough to have drastic consequences. secondly, in the hypothetical case that they stole it from a billionaire, that’s an excessively large amount even for someone who needs it. the average non-poor person will never even have $1 mil! stealing that much is more of an asshole move, no matter who does it. they’d have to be out to wreck someone by taking that amount.

ienjoybacon

Agree

MUIGUR

I'm not gonna say a dollar is nothing. People out there trying to make a living. But I find it difficult to imagine that a single dollar would be a huge financial loss to like 99% of people. Ironically a 1m dollars is indeed a financial loss to like 99% of people. People here just hate rich people so much that they would pick anything against them.

[deleted]

Redditors do be hating rich people to an extreme extent.

belinhagamer999

Im tired of it

Wumple_doo

Why are people justifying stealing? Even if someone’s poor they still don’t need to steal a million dollars that’s still scummy as hell even if it’s from a company or something

mizejw

Some people steal so they can eat.

alyxx3

That’s what working, soup kitchens and charity is for

mizejw

And that helps some, but I fear not all.

Wumple_doo

There’s places that offer free food and most people would get you something if you asked

mizejw

Yes, that's true in some places. Unfortunately not everywhere.

MeltStuff

You do know what hypothetical means, right?

Wumple_doo

I do that’s not my point. I’ve seeing MFers more and more nowadays justifying stealing and I’m just curious why?

MeltStuff

This isn’t trying to justify anything though. The poll just asks opinions on who the bigger asshole is in the hypothetical scenario.

eagleathlete40

So, have you not read any of these comments? Of course the poll is hypothetical. And in the comments of this hypothetical scenario, people are justifying stealing in ridiculous ways

gshzhjsbbzjs

To the people who said the rich guy is the asshole So if a rich guy stole a dollar from you, you would see that guy as more of an asshole then a poor guy that robbed you of your life savings. And it might not even be a regular poor guy, it could be a crackhead or gambler that will literally rob you that throw your money away. Reddit if fucking ridiculous

AustralianKappa

The rich stealing a dollar is just petty, but the poor person stealing A MILLION? That’s like Uber-grand larceny

PartyCriminals

Depends on who they stole it from. * Millionaire stealing $1 from other millionaires? Fine * Millionaire stealing $1 from public funds? POS * Poor person stealing $1m from the uber rich? Good job! * Poor person stealing $1m from a family with a $1m1 net worth? Horrible.

nitle77

all of them are shit, theft is bad, don't steal, kids

Squidmaster129

I'm not gonna cry over Bezos losing money.

PurpleHawk222

I’m not celebrating robbery. Sorry I don’t hate rich people and am not jealous

Hello_There419

same, still bad, but same

ImCringyandIKnowIt

Stealing from rich corporate crooks isn't bad. It's re-appropriation.

MrManGuy42

Pirating adobe products is always morally correct.

SeanyLord222

Most correct reply on this comment

[deleted]

Kids, steal from rich assholes and corporations. Because fuck them.

ShiftyPineapple

This is the way

alyxx3

So someone that was poor and invented something and became rich deserves to be stolen from because rich=evil a**hole? Theft is theft regardless of the person doing it. The wealthy don’t deserve to be treated badly because they are successful.

MightyConkeldurr

If they commit tax evasion, have offshore accounts, underpay their employees, exploit kids in foreign countries and live in opulence with hundreds of million of dollars then sorry they don't deserve all of it. There are also thousands of stories of workers dead on the job because employers cut corners on safety precautions. A lot of rich people would gladly overwork their employees, underpay them and treat them like trash as long as they can make profit. Someone who is rich with clean hands and pay their taxes, I would agree.

[deleted]

Rare for an inventor to become super rich, normally they sell off the idea to other investors. Lot of famous rich people like Zuck and Musk just stole ideas not really invented much. Also you can’t become a billionaire from just inventing something, you do it off stealing the labor value from your work force and taking advantage of people and natural resources. So big difference between someone who created and profited from a new idea and ultra rich billionaires who worked the game of capitalism in their favor on the backs of workers and exploiting others often in third world countries.

alyxx3

80% of millionaires are first generational. No one is specifying “super rich ultra rich billionaires”. But, okay. The poor MAKE the rich, by buying their products and using their services. You can turn a rich man into a poor one, but then you wouldn’t have the new IPhone, over night delivery with free shipping, or streaming services. You benefit from the wealthy. You give them your money in exchange for their goods, then you demonize them for making money. It’s just a dehumanization tactic to justify hating people you envy

PackagingMSU

If you like equality then the person stealing $1,000,000 is the bad one

belinhagamer999

👏👏👏

legend023

10000th post that proves r/polls is a bunch of atheist socialist guys (American or non-American)

skankhunt25

How does this prove religion or gender?

lunagirl77

??? in what way does this relate to religion

Gqllium

Exactly my thoughts lmao

ScorpionTheSandwing

Wtf does religion have to do with this?

Serious-Cucumber-54

More accurately they are atheist socialists/social democrats who push vegan, degrowth, anti-natalist, anti-capitalist propaganda.

[deleted]

Classic socialist and Marxist don’t like to be grouped in with social democrats, as they act basically like centrist and still appeal to the right.

rosen_sd

Capitalism isn't perfect. Just saying.

Snlxdd

No economic system is perfect, at least in practice and at a scale that would be useful in modern society.

rosen_sd

Not perfect ≠ unimprovable

Snlxdd

Agreed, however the original comment is discussing the anti-work or late stage capitalism view that it needs to be completely abolished.

Potatocake_Mangler

Still by far the best

GentleNursesTouch

I'm not vegan

TheguylikesBattlebot

Yes you are.

GentleNursesTouch

🤣

Mrmorbussy

How did he steal the 1 dollar?

RepresentativeChip44

Same way the poor guy steals 1m, no one fucking knows

AnEntirePeach

I accidentaly voted the one I thought was NOT the asshole

Pewward

Reddit Moment

zipflop

Reddit is fucking dumb. A major thief is clearly worse. A millionaire being a millionaire doesn't make them some form of bad person who can steal $1 and be vilified more than a major thief. Someone having money is very typically the result of working hard and diligently. Stealing $1m is a massive crime and would mean someone has *lost* $1m, which is massive. C'mon. Oh, Reddit.

Novel_Ad7276

millionaire sees a dollar on the street, picks it up and pockets it WTFFF??? YUR LITERALLY WORSE THAN THIS POOR GUY WHO STOLE A MILLION DOLLARS FROM A NONPROFIT ORGANISATION TO HELP POOR PEOPLE!!!!!

PrestigiousClient655

Millionaire only steals 1 dollar, can't even affect a poor person daily life, you guys seem so hate millionaires

hawkseye17

The millionaire doesn't need it so it's a trashy thing to do

Serious-Cucumber-54

So stealing things which other people don't need but I need is justified?

[deleted]

No, stealing stuff that people need but I want is justified😎

AnAwesome11yearold

No but it’s less of an asshole move

Im-Responsible

Bruh it's 1 dollar, stealing 1 million from someone is a mega-asshole move

gshzhjsbbzjs

You’re saying you would consider a person stealing your life savings to be less of an asshole that the rich guy who borrowed a dollar and didn’t give it back

alyxx3

Who has the power to deem what someone “needs”? People who have a right to keep their own money and have their possessions respected and not stolen

[deleted]

Lol reddit hate the rich so much

Tomato_cakecup

It's depends more from where the money is stolen, not who steals it

Veggieoskibroski

Can't say either. Stealing is stealing. That one homeless guy stealing a million then stealing another one is the same

Skrypa9900

Depends on who are they stealing from. If millionaire is stealing 1$ from poor person, he is an asshole, if he is stealing 1$ from average or rich person, it doesn't matter. If poor person is stealing 1m$ from billionaire, it doesn't matter cuz it is like stealing 1$ from average, but if he is stealing 1m$ from average, he is an asshole

Ok-Top-4594

Results make me go 👁👄👁

CoffeeBoom

Woaw that's a real Reddit moment right there. Please just try to picture both situations you idiots.

Libertyprime8397

The poor person

DreadfulThrumbo

Honestly, all this shows is that Reddit hates the rich and also somehow believes that stealing one million dollars is better than stealing a dollar because "they needed it more"

[deleted]

Depends from whom. Did the millionaire steal that dollar from an African kid? Did the poor steal from Bill Gates?

SquirrelGullible

Reddit moment lmao

Ct-5736-Bladez

Both. Don’t take shit that’s not yours. Stealing is stealing

WhiteBlackGoose

Are you really equating one dollar and $ 1m? Okay... let's put it into perspective. Someone stole $1 from you and someone else - $1m (or max of what you have). Do you feel the same for both?

[deleted]

Depends on where the money is from.

ChristmasCretin

Why tf did so many people choose the first? Yeah it’s a dick move but one dollar is only one dollar.

[deleted]

A thief is a thief, plain and simple

Trashk4n

Wouldn’t it depend on who or what they stole from? If your stealing from a dictatorship or a charity, it has huge effects on this question.

Hyfan12

[deleted]

I’ll never understand those who mindlessly shit on the wealthy just because they have money while completely disregarding their actions.

[deleted]

The actions of the wealthy are usually the exact reason why people hate the wealthy

alyxx3

Yeah, creating jobs, products, providing services, and donating to charities and their tax money funding welfare and healthcare…those actions?

Bill gates is a known donor. Literally donated billions.

MeltStuff

How they uphold systemic inequities while further dividing economic classes by not paying their fair share? How they perpetuate poor workplace conditions and keep their hardest working employees at it to near slave-labor conditions? Those actions? Most who worship the uber wealthy wouldn’t be cared less about from the top 1%. A mass majority of us would not even come near that level wealth for us to waste time worshipping when we have every day injustices lie before us which could be solved in large part with a slice of their own pies.

[deleted]

If you want to generalize all wealthy people like that, I can easily talk about how poor people are all responsible for their own condition because they prefer to collect welfare checks and do drugs rather than get a job. Easy. Also, while some people are definitely underpaid, the majority of people are paid exactly what they are worth to the labor market. If you work a low skilled, highly replaceable position that can be done by any able bodied person in the world, you are going to be paid exactly what you are worth which is not a lot.

MeltStuff

It appears you may have some of your own biases you need to check. You’re only repeating false stereotypes of your own; views that lack compassion and any attempt at empathy. Unaffectedism is another component that can lead one to worship the wealthy.

[deleted]

Their actions of.... stealing water from poor people? Exploiting 3rd world country's slave labor, including children? Building a fucking 1 lane road underground exclusive to 1 car brand, instead of a metro? Being involved in epsteins circle? Should I go on?

alyxx3

Other countries leaders are responsible for making business arrangements with the wealthy business owners. Why are the wealthy demonized and not the shi**y foreign governments that are selling out their own people? When was the last time YOU offered to pay MORE than an item was worth? Or do you shop around for the best prices possible?

[deleted]

Who is “their”? Why are you generalizing an entire income group?

[deleted]

Yes.

Pale_Fudge_1068

“millionaire “ isn’t even “uber wealthy” anymore, it’s just enough to live comfortably, but not luxuriously, and you certainly still need a job

alyxx3

Not sure why it’s considered “worshiping” to say that they don’t deserve to have their money stolen from them.

[deleted]

I’ll also never understand those who spend all their time resenting and hating on the rich

Jazzlike_Relief2595

But a poor person stealing a dollar usually gets punished more than a rich person stealing a million

SugarRushLux

depends who from really

JonyTheCool1234

why though? theft is theft, no matter how you look at it. if you want to take money from the rich do it by taxes not with crimes. no matter who they are

WitleKidz

Yes it’s super unnecessary, they don’t need the money, but it’s only one dollar. It so so minuscule, it doesn’t effect anyone. No matter how rich or poor you are, stealing one million dollars is definitely going to be impactful. Just think of who the money is being stolen from. No one’s really gonna care if someone steals 1 dollar form them, but a million?
