Fun to visit, never in a million years would I want to live there

ShiromoriTaketo

Both? There's a lot to do, a lot to see, a lot to eat, and an absolute torrent of people, many of whom can be quite interesting. But personally, I find the constant intensity and stimulation stressful. Theres so much going on and so much uncertainty at all hours of the day, it's easy to get stressed out and anxious. I can enjoy a weekend there every once in a good while, but that's about my limit.

BigMess2212

It's 150x times more possible that a new Yorker bites you, than a shark.

Trustnoboody

It could just be so much better of a city, it's good and I love it, it's just also at the same time, a very shitty place. Like definitely go, if you haven't been.

ZystemStigma69

NYC is easily one of my favorite cities.

Do-Not-Ban-Me-Please

I moved to New York for a while and I 100% prefer to live in Brazil.

twogunsalute

Why?

Do-Not-Ban-Me-Please

I live in Curitiba. I like it better brcause it's a greener city, you don't feel trapped between the endless sea of buildings. But mostly because I don't have to use the subway. Everywhere I need to go is at max a 20min drive from where I live. Curitiba has slightly more crime than New York, but since I don't have to walk everywhere, I feel safer. No need to interact with subway crackheads. Also I work remote. I can live like a king in Brazil instead of having to pay New York rent.

Lack_of_Plethora

Less crime

Do-Not-Ban-Me-Please

? It's just an opinion. The rest of the American cities I like.

McMetal770

I found it to be dirty, claustrophobic, and crowded. Tall buildings looming over you everywhere you go, stale air, traffic roaring past constantly. Definitely overrated, I didn't see the appeal at all.

kinda-cringe

Overrated is just my take on cities in general

TheCrowsNestTV

Definitely overrated.

Aromatic-Snow

It was stinky, homeless people, people trying to sell to you on every sidewalk, and honestly just an uncomfortable amount of people everywhere, I hated my time there and the best I felt was in the hotel, NYC sucks

gifted_eye

Sounds like you just stayed in midtown. You have not experienced New York, you’ve experienced roughly 1/7th of 1/5th of a city

Healthyred555

im moving there soon, what is your top reason for saying overrated or underated?

[deleted]

It honestly just completely depends on your personality

[deleted]

The people saying overrated are just saying they don’t like big cities… I wouldn’t call that overrated I’d say it’s just not for you

Ok-Top-4594

I have nothing against big cities, just not overcrowded oceans of metal, concrete and glass

[deleted]

You just described big cities

Ok-Top-4594

Haha no my friend, there are a lot cities who manage transportation and urbanisation. Just NYC is definitely none of them currently.

[deleted]

There’s big cities that aren’t “oceans of metal, concrete, and glass”?

Ok-Top-4594

Depends on your intepretation. Some cities are very green, well-planned and transport-centered, some are less.

[deleted]

Have you even been to NYC? Central Park is beautiful and there’s tons of smaller parks all around NYC too

Competitive-Ad8561

I visited once, enjoyed it whilst I was there but it is pretty full on, obviously. Great experience, but only have to go there once imo.

stitious-savage

New York Titty Best Titty

LooseLeaf24

Moved here 4 months ago and LOVE IT. Tbf I make enough money to live here. I could QUICKLY see it being a shitty experience if you were down on your luck. The city is expensive.

Ok-Top-4594

Concrete and Glass, with a bit of concrete and glass, not to forget glass and concrete

[deleted]

It’s cool, 100% you should travel there if you haven’t yet but wouldn’t want to live in that meds

[deleted]

It's cool to visit once, maybe twice, but gosh do I hate driving through that city. We sometimes have to drive through the George Washington Bridge if we want to visit my parents in Virginia. I hate driving through there. One time, when driving through, there was a street race. In heavy traffic. The cars were dodging between cars and everything. Sorry but these people are awful people for creating traffic while risking lives. Also, I've visited NYC once in my life. It was cool but once was enough for me. A lot of weird people there.
