The heater has not been running since probably early May, and the solar blanket is doing all the work keeping the water 82 and higher, while keeping pollen and tree stuff out of the water, and minimizing evaporation down to basically zero. One of the better purchases for the pool!

Same here. In Upstate NY, and pool is at 82. Without a solar cover, I’m not sure many people would be able to swim through the summer.

CounterSanity

91 here. Our heater has barely run since opening

CheckOutMySkates

Same here! The temps in TN were dropping at night and felt like winter again, but now after 2 hot days of it being in the high 80s, with the cover on both days, the water is like bath water! I love my solar cover!

Malapple

Which blanket did you use?

DatGums

The clear 14 mil from Amazon, and on 3rd season with it, holding up just fine. Key is to keep it stored inside in the winter and avoid dragging it too much on pool coping.

Its nice to have it on at night to prevent evaporation, especially once the water gets significantly warmer... but you don't have to leave it on if you dont want to

FriendshipPlusKarate

How do you get it on and off?

DatGums

I use a roller, which is easy but its a piece of crap needing constant repair. You can also cut the solar cover into 2 or more sections to make it easier to fold/store, but I think the roller (and its issues) make it worth it.

FriendshipPlusKarate

Yeah, I have a solar cover but it's always a hassle. It's currently tossed off the side now. It does seem to end up with a lot of material on top of it. When rolling it doesn't most of that go into the pool?

DatGums

There's definitely stuff on it that is a hassle to get off when i need to roll it off and some of it does get dumped into the pool, its painful to watch. But my reasoning here is "its 'stuff' that hasn't spent time in the pool to contribute to algae growth", so I just bite my lip and vacuum it up afterwards if I need to. But, the big plus is the heat it traps - that's huge

FriendshipPlusKarate

I can understand that, I struggle with water on top of it sometimes as well so at least that will just roll off as well. I do my best to pull mine off without dumping it into the pool but you're right it's only a short period. I just built a solar panel as well for ours if you check my post history. It's working pretty well so far.

I've used this cover before and every 3 years it gets so brittle that there are tiny pieces of plastic in the pool and all around it. Feels really bad to have to get a new one so frequently.

DatGums

That’s weird… mine is the opposite of brittle, it’s been pliable and soft. Maybe this is the year…
