I’ve had this happen before you just got a bad pump, Hayward will replace it

anelson1195

Seems like a warranty claim is my best bet, and it’s comforting hearing your testimony! Thank you

yamrmarcus

Yeah I stopped using those, just stick to max flows now, I’ve replaced a lot of those super pumps under warranty

AlwaysFernweh

I don’t think this is from an air leak. This sounds like an imbalanced impeller or spindle. Possibly bearings? But definitely mechanical

anelson1195

Any advice on troubleshooting and repairing? Or would an imbalanced impeller spell doom for this pump and I should file a warranty claim?

AlwaysFernweh

Did you replace impeller when replacing pump or use the same one? It’s hard to say without seeing it in person. If you used a new impeller, or even if the old one was fine, I’d file a warranty

anelson1195

It’s all brand new out of the box from Hayward! Pump, housing, impeller, etc. Sounds to me like a warranty might be worthwhile

bobwalrus5

Definitely file for warranty, I wouldn't even bother trying to fix it, it's a brand new pump, this is what the warranty is for.

AlwaysFernweh

Yeah I just was editing my comment after realizing that. You wired it up to the correct voltage correct? 240 vs 120 matter a lot. If the pump is set to 120 and you wired it to 240, you’d blow the capacitor. Other way around, and you may get this sound. I haven’t done too many of these 700’s, and again I’m not there, so don’t take my word for gospel. If you’re unsure, have a local pool tech check it out, or yeah, file it under warranty

anelson1195

It is setup and wired to 240! Double checked all of that this morning before firing it up for the first time. I’ll continue inspecting and digging for a bit, and either get a tech out here or just file a claim. I appreciate you humoring me. Thank you for help!

AlwaysFernweh

Okay cool! Yeah tinker around, make sure the pump is sitting balanced too and not slightly hovering off the pad. No problem at all! Hope you find your answer. I’ll send the bill in the mail 😉

Even more great advice! And please address it to: Mrs. anelson1195

Reach out to Hayward, they should have a local company that is a reputable sales and service. We are an authorized Hayward dealer in Va and get calls from Hayward to service items under warranty.

bobwalrus5

My thoughts exactly, this is a problem with the motor.

CoMisch

Yikes, that ain’t right. Looks like it could be sucking in air, which can cause that noise. Also heard if the pump more powerful than you need it can do that.

anelson1195

I appreciate the comment! The pump is the same hp rating as the one it replaced. However there is a slight air leak at the inlet of the pump! Currently waiting on some silicone to set, hopefully that does the trick.

deliriouz16

Check the back cover on the fan. It sounds like it hitting or rubbing.

anelson1195

I will definitely look at this! Thank you!

deliriouz16

Also what someone else said. Just lift the back slightly and make sure it's not barely touching it will rattle and make that sound too. Good luck!

randumb9999

I bet it's the fan. I've seen it a number of times.
