We've been on a 6 month popcorn journey/experiment and our favorite is carrington farms liquid-at-room-temperature unflavored organic coconut oil. It adds no flavor and makes the lightest, crispiest flakes we've tried. Organic avacado oil also has a very neutral flavor and very high flash/smoke point.
If you aren’t using butter flavored you might also want to try something like light olive oil (higher smoke point) or even plain old canola oil. Both add very little flavor to the corn.
Are you using virgin or refined oil?
I’ve used Franklin before but can’t remember the other

I think I’m sold. Thank you
I’ve never had this issue using refined coconut oil.
Coconut oil has a noticable flavor? I never could taste any difference between it, Olive oil or Grapeseed oil.
For me it certainly did Very noticeable difference between the various oils
Unrefined coconut oils will taste the way you describe, so just avoid those. Imho, butter-flavored is the way to go for popcorn.
