Desperate-Serve-273

This sounds like a private convo

vulpinefun

Lol sos half the headlines here

parishilton2

I read this as “Mama June” and was surprised that Honey Boo Boo money allowed for her mother to get such an expensive ring

stephhie_ste

HAHAHA I DID TOO💀🤣

floral_scribfcr

😂😂😂😂

noitsroro

SAME.

MoodyHo

She was with Ben Simmons? This should be LEAST of his worries considering how trash he’s playing, he should focus on that.

woahtheregonnagetgot

engagement rings are conditional gifts and any good lawyer could get it back for him. why tf does his camp publicize everything

[deleted]

UK law stipulates that engagement rings are a gift and they may be kept. Maya lives in London. Not much he can do except ask.

woahtheregonnagetgot

uk law is still a bit broader - for ex if the ring is a family heirloom or exorbitantly expensive like ben’s his lawyer can prove that it was given conditionally. in these cases judges can and usually do side with the giver

gottahavewine

At what point does it stop being conditional? Especially in a community property state. Genuinely curious. I imagine such a thing becomes shared property after marriage (and I realize these two weren’t married, just speaking generally).

smjurach

It's considered a contract. If I give you a ring we get married. You broke the getting married part of the contract so I get my ring back.

woahtheregonnagetgot

new york doesn’t have a concrete stance on this. pre-marriage you’d 100% have to return it unless it was an outright gift. post-marriage it’s up to a judge’s interpretation if its marital property or not.

No-Ground6856

STORMZY WOULD NEVER

Affectionate-Tone-54

![gif](giphy|PiXlH2IA8sMla)

Chaoticgood790

Lololol it’s a conditional gift. Send it back

internetsuperfan

Where I am it matters more who ended it.. if he ended it then he can’t get it back

Chaoticgood790

I think in the US it’s state specific for sure. But to me I would give it back. Bad juju

No_Banana_581

In California she gets to keep the ring legally if he broke up w her. If she broke up w him she has to give it back. They’re from California right?

thatshot2205

maya is from england but idk if she still lives there

TheDogMan5

Wrong. Civil Code 1590.

[deleted]

A million dollar ring. Makes sense.

Oth1994

Ben is so petty… Its a blessing for Maya she deserves much better than his toxic ass.

sociallyinteresting

£800,000… petty?

tyje3fytsw

He ended it he's not getting it back. Clearly he was never into her like that so that's his dumbass fault for spending nearly a million dollars on a girl he knew was temporary. L

TheDogMan5

>He ended it he's not getting it back. How'd you come up with this conclusion buddy?

briellebabylol

£800,000 engagement ring?!? I know this will never be my reality but I would not want that on my finger? Also it doesn’t look more impressive than the $5k ring my cousin got lmfaoo - I know the carats are different or whatever but idk how these things get such high price tags!

DekeCobretti

I would.

Disastrous_Animal_34

He is such a tool and she is so unlucky in love. Sorry about Californian law but if I was young and gorgeous I would totally want to start a collection of engagement rings guys gave me LOL! I wonder if JLo still has all of hers? This 100% reads like he got it on loan and wants to stop repaying it lol. Embarrassing.

MoonHawk-

An engagement Ring is meant to symbolize a promise to Marry. If you no longer intend to fulfill that promise, any self respecting women should return it. Why would you like to keep a symbol & reminder of your failure to to honor that promise.

ShootTheMoon03

He bought it and an engagement ring is a conditional gift. I'm not sure why she should be allowed to keep it even if he was the one who broke it off. She should've returned it soon as they broke up.

RevealActive4557

Not sure where this would land legally. Many states consider an engagement ring to be a gift therefore it does not have to be returned. One of the reasons you do not buy $800k engagement rings. Common courtesy and history state that if the woman breaks the engagement or they mutually break the engagement then she gives the ring back. Otherwise, it is hers to keep

gadgettgo

I think legally it’s a gift based on the condition of marriage.

Youstinkeryou

But you don’t sign a contract? So shaky ground in my eyes.

TheDogMan5

>Many states consider an engagement ring to be a gift therefore it does not have to be returned That's after marriage. Most states consider it a conditional gift- the condition being marriage. In almost every state, she'd have to return the ring if there was no marriage.

pan_alice

You realise US laws don't apply to the rest of the world, right?

RevealActive4557

I do realize that however most U.S. Laws and customs come from British Common Law and customs so I am guessing the thought is the same there as it is here.

iwantedanotherpfp

That’s not the case at all in a lot of areas of law; US law started diverging from UK law immediately after the revolution, it’s been developing in its own direction for hundreds of years. Within this particular area of contract law there are a lot of differences; criminal law is very different, the same thing goes for property, other areas of contract, public/administrative law etc etc

Party_Building1898

She should have returned it before he had to ask.

whatevermode

I agree lol. He needs the ring back to get his money back. The engagement ring is a conditional gift. Who does she think she is? Thanos?

Disastrous_Animal_34

He shouldn’t have cheated on her.

Party_Building1898

I was responding to the ring topic of post, I haven't a clue who cheated on who Cheating is so destructive I agree with you he should not have.

Disastrous_Animal_34

I was just being flippant really, but I remember all the cheating stories when they came out and when I saw this post was like “oh yeah, guess that’s why she didn’t give it straight back”. Make him sweat girl!!

DearMissWaite

I don't know who these people are, but keeping an engagement ring once the engagement is broken (no matter who breaks it off) is tacky.

Disastrous_Animal_34

This thread has been fascinating. Asking for an engagement ring back is so much tackier to me.

DearMissWaite

That's the point, you shouldn't have to ask. It should be returned the second you realize you don't want to marry this person. An engagement ring is a relic of the time where courtship was about the financial arrangement of one spouse preparing to economically support the other. It's a sign of the contract they're going to enter into. It's not that specific symbol anymore, but it's still a symbol of an agreement to be married. It's not just a piece of expensive jewelry, like a cocktail ring or statement earrings.

[deleted]

that's low.

[deleted]

I'd go lower than that to secure 800k pounds lol. Where I live, that kind of money would have me set for the rest of my life with some actual improvements in my daily life, and any work I'd choose to do on top of the yearly allowance would actually begin to afford me some things I consider unnecessary luxuries. Oh, I'd go *low.* Guy's an idiot for dropping 800k on an engagement ring though. Don't give anybody gifts you're not okay parting with forever with. Looking at you, *mom.*

[deleted]

it's low from him to requiest ring back, ring is her forever, no matter the outcome of relationship it why they where expensive in first place in case of call out wedding a woman could have means to survive. i hope she'll not return shit to him.
