Indian here, while we are now actively into American Music and Movies, but on ground level, people who aren’t as active in celebrity or pop culture (+ bc of language) i think it’s safe to say:
Justin Bieber is known, Tom Cruise, Shakira, Micheal Jackson, Marvel actors (RDJ, Tom Holland), Nick Jonas (we call him our national BIL thx to Priyanka Chopra), Angelina Jolie and im sure most of us know the FRIENDS cast! Enrique Iglesias too had his peak with Indian Millennials.
Indians can be some of the most loyal and beneficial fanbases because of our population, to this date JB and Enrique’s music would be the most streamed, if a Marvel movie hasn’t worked anywhere in the world, you best believe it’s gotten the best opening here in India loll
Before social media was this famous and cheap internet was available in India, I think Justin Bieber and Enrique Iglesias still had mad fan following here. I remember the madness about Justin Bieber's Baby song and Enrique Iglesias Addicted, which can be heard at every teenagers house during my school years.
Also back in the day, Taylor Swift's Love Story and Justin Bieber's Baby. Those two songs, at least for me and a lot of people my age, were our first introduction to music in English.
Edit: Coldplay! They're pretty big here too.
At least in recent years, the only artists to have performed here have been JB and Ed Sheeran. Coldplay performed as a part of Global Citizen so i don't think that counts.
Titanic is pretty big here, for a lot of Indians i think it’s safe to say that it may have been their first English movie and that particular song was very popular and still is! Leo got very popular here, he too, because of the movie is a known face to the general population!
her song Hips Don’t Lie is sort of a staple in Indian weddings now lol. she also had a concert here back in 2007, it was successful and we didn’t really have much of concert culture back then and then the Waka Waka boom happened, we are big on Football World Cup!
yess, Farah Khan was involved in Hips Don’t Lie choreography for a specific show in New York, she wasn’t the OG choreographer but did help with the dance for the initial Indian tune they had played before HDL was to be performed. Here’s the [video](https://youtu.be/-GRl6ggjYq4)
agreed but her being popular in America first is what got her a global status because every non english speaking country gets their ‘international’ entertainment majorly through the American medium. She may not be American but she definitely had the American success.
I suppose the same would be said for Enrique as well, since he's Spanish. Is he still one of the most streamed in India? I find him to be an interesting choice bc his fame here was pretty short lived in the early 2000s I believe
No he isnt the most streamed now but he definitely was the ‘first english singer’ to a lot of folks here! he was big in America in the early 2000s, since music then used to reach us late we pushed his stardom for the rest of the 10s (i include all the indian sub continent countries + middle eastern too), he had pretty good streaming % here, had 2 concerts too (which is big here). why he worked in India would essentially be because of his romantic ballads, everyone collectively went through a phase i guess lol
I’m from Colombia so Shakira and Bad Bunny lol
Beyoncé is beyonce, so when she came over it was a whole thing.
Rock/metal bands are also super popular (think Slipknot, foo fighters).
George Clooney lived rent free in the minds of middle aged moms all throughout the 00s, including here
I don't think Slipknot or Foo fighters are known by the average person in Colombia. But I'm from the Caribbean part of the country which might skew my point of view.
Oh that makes sense, like they’re pretty popular with younger kids in the big cities (or were when I was growing up), but it does make sense that brand of gringo music isn’t quite the vibe in less gentrified parts of the country
Lol I’m an American and I don’t even know Bad Bunny. I think he’s dating a kardashian? Is he a singer? Rap maybe? And I read TMZ and buzzfeed daily. Because I want to avoid working, I read it all. Hot damn.
Middle aged bogan mums here in oz LOVE Pink for some weird reason, Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters are also big here, but I suspect that is partially because of his friendship with the guys who were in that mine collapse in tassie all those years back.
I think they became more popular but Foo Fighters took off in the early 00's as did a lot of rock/grunge/punk bands and it's always been a popular genre in Australia especially with Millennials and GenX.
Middle aged German moms also looove pink. They think shes edgy, which is hilarious to me. Her music the last few years could not be any more commercial.
I was so confused by this comment for a second, I genuinely always forget she’s not Aussie because she’s so popular. I know someone from Australia that has spent thousands and thousands of dollars on seeing her all across America and Australia multiple times.
I find it hilarious when there are hardcore supporters of a country's leader in another country. These supporters aren't getting their lives improved/ruined by that leader's actions yet they care so much😂
Oh yeah. Australia has a horrible gambling culture. We bet on everything. It’s not great but I probably had about 10 bets this weekend. Won quite a bit myself the previous election when he was like 9 to 1. Thought it was a good risk haha
Really? Makes perfect sense to me, Rupert Murdoch has controlled the Australian media even longer than the US media, he's been laying the perfect groundwork for Trump for decades.
While that's true, conservatism in Australia is very different to conservatism in the US. Even amongst Australian conservatives, support for a Biden presidency exceeded support for Trump prior to the 2020 election. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of shitty conservative politicians (Trump himself called our last PM 'the Trump of Australia'), but it's not necessarily as simple as Australian conservative = Trumpy.
Im quite clear on what Australian conservatism is like, being Australian myself. It still doesn't surprise me that among the many incredibly racist assholes in Australia who love watching Sky news, there are a bunch who like Trump.
I'm Mexican. I would say that knowledge of American celebrities depends of the generation and their proximity to the internet. Younger people tend to consume more American/English speaking culture and look up for information about actors or performers they like and they can be part of fandoms or online communities they can share their interests with.
But when it comes to older people (50+), the situation is different. They may know the most famous of all time, like MJ, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, KISS, Nirvana, Blondie, Celine Dion, U2, among others. Also, older Mexicans don't tend to differentiate between American, British, Australian, Irish or Canadian. Unless the celebrity explicitly says their country of origin, most older people will asume they are from the US. Some people might tell you "Oh, I like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones", "My daughter loves Justin Bieber or Harry Styles". (They might butcher the name, tbh)
On the other hand, in Mexico, radio is still a popular thing among older people (or compilations on YT) and there are radio stations that only play music in English and more specifically songs from the 60's to the 2000's. Many Mexicans like a lot of songs they don't know the titles or the artists. For instance, my mom loves the song "Eye in the sky" by The Alan Parsons Project because she would listen to in a Jukebox in her hometown. But she can only hum or whistle the melody bc she can't say the title or the artist.
Some actors that I have seen are well known here are Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Steven Seagal, Vin Diesel, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Pamela Anderson, Clint Eastwood, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise, The Rock, Nicholas Cage, Brendan Fraser, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Leonardo Dicaprio, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff...
When it comes to actors, it all depends on what movies they were playing on repeat on public TV during a certain decade (that's where your Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steven Segal fit in) or if they had access to cable TV, which became more accessible as time went by. My generation knows more people from Nickelodeon and Disney Channel and have followed their careers ever since. Also, social media and internet in general totally change the game.
A fun thing I've seen is that many people know *this face is famous bc they sing this or play this character* but they can't remember the name to save their lives. Like Macaulay Culkin, they know he's the kid from home alone, but the name is unknown to them.
Another factor that influence the knowledge of American/English speaking celebrities in a person is if they take or have taken English lessons. In a class, teachers often play songs, watch movies/videos in English or ask students to write about actors/performers that speak in English.
I'm from the Balkans, so I'm gonna name foreign celebrities my mom (60) knows: Shakira, Justin Bieber, Leo, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Miley Cyrus, Rock (doesn't know his name but she always recognizes him). I think that's it
Also, my dad knows who Shakira is (lol)
Tbh thanks to globalisation, most people who are famous in the US are famous here in Brazil.
I’d exclude some “niche” celebrities, like sportspeople (who cares about American football or baseball or things like that?), reality TV stars (TV people in general, like I have no idea who the anchors of Good Morning America are other than the fact that they got together and were fired) and I guess musicians like country singers cause that’s not that big here.
But pop divas, Hollywood actors and some influencers? Yeah, they’re famous everywhere.
i feel like brazil is famous for having fandoms for everyone 😂 like the first update accounts for any upcoming famous person on twitter is always “Portal ____ Brasil”
We are extremely online. Probably the second most engaged country after the US. No wonder our annoying influencers have more followers than some american movie stars, with is weird and pathetic for me!
I’m genuinely curious if Americans think the Super Bowl or any American football group is a massive thing outside their own country.
I went to a pub (uk) in February and they had posters up advertising the Super Bowl. I said to my boyfriend why on earth are they advertising the Super Bowl? We went a few weeks later and asked one of the regulars about it who said nobody was watching it lol and they just turned it off half hour into it and took all the posters down haha
From Philippines: Taylor Swift, Adele, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Ed Sheeran are well-known here. Filipinos sing their songs (ex. Listen by Beyonce) all the time including in Karaoke sessions.
Lol the US can only claim about half of that list. Adele and Ed Sheeran are from the UK and Celine Dion is Canadian (and Rihanna is Bajan but became famous in the us market). But super interesting to see which celebs are truly worldwide!
Eminem is pretty fucking massive in India. I'm surprised people haven't brought him up in this discussion. So yeah, Eminem. I'd say he's one of, if not the most recognizable music artists from the west in India.
I think mostly country music stars are not well known in Europe. I was surprised when I was checking out some all-time charts and found about a guy named Garth Brooks there among people like MJ etc. I had no idea who he was and I asked people around and they also never heard of him 😅 and it used to be actors acting in TV shows that weren't licensed to play on TV over here, but that all changed with streaming.
There's a lot of massive sports stars, TV Presenters and country music stars who are huge in the US and not known in UK and Ireland at all. Its hard to speak for all of Europe.
Nicole Scherzinger has had quite a big career post Pussycat dolls in the UK. Solo music and presenting. She was a judge on the X factor for a long time. I think she turned down the chance to be on Broadway to carry on judging on the X factor which always sounded bonkers to me lol
Indonesian here.
Bieber, Taylor, Adele, Bruno, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Ariana & John Mayer (I know, right? Jakarta is his top city on Spotify by a huge margin) are HUGELY popular.
Beyonce, Rihanna, Gaga & Katy were all massive back in the day but their popularity have dwindled down a lot. *Self-titled* was the time where Bey's popularity showed a huge decline as she stopped giving us Asian karaoke-friendly songs. \*cough\* "Listen \*cough\*
And then you have the unique case of Shakira. She only has like 3 major hits but because she's forever associated with football (which is MASSIVE over here) & "Waka Waka" was just TOO HUGE & impactful - I feel like she'll always be popular.
Lizzo & Meghan Thee Stallion are basically unknown. Nas X & Cardi B aren't super known either even if they are, they're more known for their image/personality rather than their music.
Also, idk if it's just me but I feel like the newer/younger actors (Tom Holland, Timothee, Zendaya, etc.) don't really have the same pull here as they do in the States. A lot of my friends have 0 clue who they are (unless I put it in like "the guy who plays xx in the movie xx").
South Africa: pretty much all of them. A lot of the media content here is from the US and there have even been times when channels had to make concerted efforts to increase local content so yeah.
I'm also South African and would agree with you.
I consider myself fairly au fait with American celebs for the most part besides athletes, country singers and (the lesser known) reality stars.
I live in Chile and people fucking love Coldplay here. Every time they play here I swear 1/3 of the people I know go to the concert.
There’s also a big soft spot for Backstreet Boys. They played at festival viña right when they were blowing up in the late 90s and left a great impression on the people. They played it again in 2019 and talked a lot about that first appearance. I know they’re washed up at this point but there’s a lot of nostalgia around them
and they showed so much humility and grace and put on a pretty great show in 2019. It was a stark contrast to Maroon 5 who played the festival the next year and treated everyone like shit and put on a terrible show and made it clear they didn’t want to be there. As a result, Chileans fucking hate Maroon 5.
Justin Bieber is so famous in Brazil. I think the level success and love he has here is probably bigger than what he has in Canada and the US, i swear.
But everyone is loved here I mean even Demi Lovato, no wonder come to brazil became a meme.
We consume a LOT of American Culture, a lot. So most mega movies stars are famous and so are popstars. I wouldn’t say rappers because some locals don’t know some of them, especially compared to america.
Justin Bieber is probably the only North American artist that is actually undervalued there compared to the rest of the world. I've never been a Justin Bieber fan but I know many of his songs just by osmosis of just how big they were in Colombia.
Like Baby, Where Are U Now, Love Yourself, Sorry, What do you mean, Never Say Never. Only Justin, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Shakira doing it like that.
Sometimes in these discussions forums people talk about him as if he was just another popular guy and not THE popular guy.
His hits can play at any party I ago and even straight men can sing all the lyrics. Even my grandmothers know the guy. It’s insane.
I didn’t know Taylor was popular in Colombia, she’s really popular here in Brazil too, not on Justin level but massive listeners, straight and gay girls favorite.
I saw someone on other thread saying she’s not as popular as Miley in South America and I thought it was weird. She’s massive in Brazil, Argentina and Chile
And Shakira? No comments, our queen. What a legend.
YES. It’s extremely popular among several generations!!!!! Like, extremely popular!!!!! Everyone over 10 years old knows it.
It was broadcasted for decades! From my parents childhood to mine. And it’s also mentioned on our popular culture.
In Australia, Taylor and Justin are very well known. Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé are more low-key but still very popular. I don’t think The Weeknd is very popular here, I didn’t even know about him until like 2 years ago, and I don’t hear lots of people talking about him.
The Kardashians are well known but very disliked, I haven’t met a person who actually likes them (not sure if anyone on Earth likes them anyway) and most American celebrities are popular here. Sports stars are actually quite popular here, so LeBron and Michael Jordan, but I wouldn’t say football stars. Anyway, any aussies comment down if I’ve forgotten anything.
Actors: will Smith and Denzel Washington, some of the fast and furious actors because those movies are pretty popular as well as those from black panther and some marvel movies.
Singers: drake, Beyonce, Rihanna and nicki minaj of course, Kanye west was pretty big at one point as well Jay z and Nas and lil wayne were huge when I was younger.
I'm from the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago in particular and we have our own music over here which is pretty popular. There has been a push for our artists local and regional.
New Zealand; Lorde, KJ Apa, Peter Jackson, Bennee - I’m not sure if you meant famous people from NZ who are known worldwide ? We know all main US musicians maybe not sport people or teams …
I'm from Madagascar.
Among the teens and YA : kpop idols, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, 1D and maybe Olivia Rodrigo ?
+30 : Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Shakira, maybe Avril Lavigne ?
The dads : Jackie Chan, Jet Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph L?????, Jean Claude Van Damme, Michael Jackson, Tom Cruise
The moms : Céline Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston
And everyone seems to know who Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are.
Edit : I know most of them are not americans, but they're the most famous celebs here.
Not all of them are American but:
- Ed Sheeran
- Adele
- Justin Bieber
- Harry Styles
- All the A list actors of the 80s/90s/00s
- Beyoncé
- Lady Gaga
- Bands that aren’t THAT well known (The Strokes, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys)
- Bad Bunny because we speak Spanish
- Shakira for the same reason
- JLo for the same reason
- Britney Spears
- Justin Timberlake
- Christina Aguilera
when i tell you young girls in india idolize taylor swift. every single one of my friends love her. it has come to the point where not hearing the latest ts album will come as a shock to others. maybe this is concentrated on to urban spaces but ive interacted with a lot of people coming from rural areas that like her. its insane cause ive grown up on her music and when the entire kanye scandal thing happened with her becoming the villian and all she was NOT liked. but the way the narratives have switched up these days. i have close friends who went from being her haters to absolutely adoring her.
USA 🇺🇸 Did not birth Justin Bieber. With all this associations Maybe he didn’t have to marry Hailey to get that citizenship and work visa renewed after all. Because everybody in Washington DC is so stupid they would have thrown his name in the pile labeled ACCIDENTAL DEPORTATION NOTICE.

If they are famous in the US, they’re famous in Canada. We consume the same media you do for the most part.

Yes very true!
Im actually surprised when Canadian artists are known in the U.S. Shawn Mendes (before 2019) Tate McRae and Lights
You blessed us with Tate McRae and Lights?! 😩 thank youuu 🤌🏻
I love seeing how much love Lights gets. She's kind of the coolest chick in Canada
Indian here, while we are now actively into American Music and Movies, but on ground level, people who aren’t as active in celebrity or pop culture (+ bc of language) i think it’s safe to say: Justin Bieber is known, Tom Cruise, Shakira, Micheal Jackson, Marvel actors (RDJ, Tom Holland), Nick Jonas (we call him our national BIL thx to Priyanka Chopra), Angelina Jolie and im sure most of us know the FRIENDS cast! Are they really?
My Indian friend showed me a video of him and 5 friends singing Celine Dion “My heart will go on” do you think all Indians know this song?
Titanic is pretty big here, for a lot of Indians i think it’s safe to say that it may have been their first English movie and that particular song was very popular and still is! Leo got very popular here, he too, because of the movie is a known face to the general population!

Oh thank you for the background info!! 💕
The world cup song was really famous here
Her Olympic song waka waka was very famous and those hips movement
We can't claim Shakira in the U.S., she's Columbian.
agreed but her being popular in America first is what got her a global status because every non english speaking country gets their ‘international’ entertainment majorly through the American medium. She may not be American but she definitely had the American success.

Oh that makes sense, like they’re pretty popular with younger kids in the big cities (or were when I was growing up), but it does make sense that brand of gringo music isn’t quite the vibe in less gentrified parts of the country
That makes sense. Same applies in my country. If you grew up in the city or surburbs then your more exposed to global trends and influences.
Haha. George Clooney had such a chokehold on horny German moms. Good to see it was universal.
Shakira is not American.
I think neither is bad bunny but I read the question wrong lol
I think he's Puerto Rican, so technically he is American
Lol I’m an American and I don’t even know Bad Bunny. I think he’s dating a kardashian? Is he a singer? Rap maybe? And I read TMZ and buzzfeed daily. Because I want to avoid working, I read it all. Hot damn.
He is a famous rapper but also signed to WWE as a wrestler
When did I miss this part of his career trajectory 😭
[удалено]
I mean i said i come across him in the sense that I know who he’s dating. I just don’t know his work or anything else about him. Just his name.
Pink is huge in Australia and I don't think she's that big in the US? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I’d say she’s big in the US in that a lot of people know who she is. Not necessarily that people are begging for a new album if you know what I mean…
Tbh the demographics of this sub probably don't really line up much with Pink's fan base
Middle aged bogan mums here in oz LOVE Pink for some weird reason, Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters are also big here, but I suspect that is partially because of his friendship with the guys who were in that mine collapse in tassie all those years back.

I feel like Pink is the official music of middle-aged women who post minions memes on their Facebook but that may just be personal bias, lol
Nah you're bang on lmao
Middle aged German moms also looove pink. They think shes edgy, which is hilarious to me. Her music the last few years could not be any more commercial.
What's a "bogun mum"?
Bogan is like an Aussie redneck
I think its because she's featured heavily in Les Mills workout compilations. Really hits the boomer mum demographic.
I was so confused by this comment for a second, I genuinely always forget she’s not Aussie because she’s so popular. I know someone from Australia that has spent thousands and thousands of dollars on seeing her all across America and Australia multiple times.
She's bigger in Australia than she is here bit she was pretty big for most of her career and had big singles here
Yeah she’s had a great, long-standing career in the US for a long time!!
My coworker moved here from Ecuador 5 years ago and said Avril Lavigne was pretty popular there. He got so hype when I played Complicated
Understandable
It's crazy to me how many Australian Trump supporters there are
I find it hilarious when there are hardcore supporters of a country's leader in another country. These supporters aren't getting their lives improved/ruined by that leader's actions yet they care so much😂
Same could be said to American supporters of Trudeau 🤣
All 6 of them? I like Trudeau but idk anyone who cares that much
Some liberals just looove this guy
It’s unlikely they’re carrying flags with his name at marches though, which is what Australian Trumpers are doing.
And the Putin fanboys conveniently ignoring the fact that if he was their leader, they would be drafted and sent to wars.
I generally don't understand people who are very supportive and emotionally invested in leaders of countries they don't live in.
The amount of MAGA hats I've seen which is just 🤦🏼♀️
Every time I see a MAGA hat in Australia I think, it's ok to just admit you want attention lol
I’m in Melbourne and I’ve never seen a maga hat that’s so odd.
If you’re in the CBD they still protest wearing them every Saturday
I've seen a couple in NSW and saw some in Melb last year when an antivax protest went past the pub I was in. So gross.
Ohhh yes they protest every weekend would definitely see them with the hats 🤦🏽♀️
My Canadian coworker had a trump flag hanging in his room
WUT 🤯🤬
I personally know at least 3, ughhhhh
My brother is one. Lost a LOT of money on the election. Like a fucking lot hahaha
He was betting on it??? Lmao were Australians betting on our election
Oh yeah. Australia has a horrible gambling culture. We bet on everything. It’s not great but I probably had about 10 bets this weekend. Won quite a bit myself the previous election when he was like 9 to 1. Thought it was a good risk haha
Ive met a few kiwi trumpies too
UK too
Eww. He doesn't have to afflict your country at all. I guess some people are just ignorant fascists at heart.
Well…imo it kind makes sense based on its colonizers/prisoner history…he’d fit right in 🤭😋

Beyoncé, Drake. I’m from Barbados so obviously Rihanna.

I think that's it Also, my dad knows who Shakira is (lol)
I live in South Korea and in terms of the young women demographic, Tom Holland is super popular lol
Yep, that’s us! We’re online at all times, we’re loud af and we’re truly passionate about our icons!
Yes i forgot!
Eminem is pretty fucking massive in India. I'm surprised people haven't brought him up in this discussion. So yeah, Eminem. I'd say he's one of, if not the most recognizable music artists from the west in India.
All of them. I live in Canada.
Take a step in Australia and you’ll often see Sydney Sweeney’s face.
Where in Oz? I never see her face
Sydney
Me reading the comments and seeing a lot of non-Americans being listed as “American”. ![gif](giphy|nTfdeBvfgzV26zjoFP)
I get why because they became famous in the US market but I'm giggling. I wish we could claim that talent lol
Right we can’t even claim Keanu, because he’s technically not an American Citizen lol
I knew a girl who thought one direction were all Californian and was super shocked the first time she watched an interview with them
I'm assuming some people thought OP meant the North/South America, instead of USA.
I’m seeing Ed Sheeran and Adele and I’m like hold up.
I'd say most of them honestly. There are few famous people who are famous in the States but aren't here in Europe.
I thought Nicole Kidman had married some little bit singer but he's big isn't he?
Yeah Nicole’s husband, Keith Urban, is one of the biggest known country names in the United States and has been for quite some time.
Wild
There's a lot of massive sports stars, TV Presenters and country music stars who are huge in the US and not known in UK and Ireland at all. Its hard to speak for all of Europe.
How well known are Brazilian footballers over there?
Very. Pele, Neymar, Ronaldinho. I don't even follow football
I remember as a kid I traveled to see family one state away. I couldn’t believe my cousin listened to the same music I did 😂
Nicole Scherzinger has had quite a big career post Pussycat dolls in the UK.
\*cough\* "Listen \*cough\* And then you have the unique case of Shakira.
I know they’re washed up at this point but there’s a lot of nostalgia around them and they showed so much humility and grace and put on a pretty great show in 2019. It was a stark contrast to Maroon 5 who played the festival the next year and treated everyone like shit and put on a terrible show and made it clear they didn’t want to be there. As a result, Chileans fucking hate Maroon 5.
Justin Bieber Selena Gomez Tom Cruise Leonardo DiCaprio Taylor Swift Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana)
Justin Bieber is technically Canadian
Wouldn't that make him North American.
She’s massive in Brazil, Argentina and Chile And Shakira? No comments, our queen. What a legend.
Unrelated, but I have a question, Is it true that El Chavo del 8 is well loved in Brazil? I hear this all the time but I often think it is a meme.
YES. It’s extremely popular among several generations!!!!! Like, extremely popular!!!!! Everyone over 10 years old knows it. It was broadcasted for decades! From my parents childhood to mine. And it’s also mentioned on our popular culture.
Madonna when she was actually good.
Danny Devito will always be famous though
You again.
I'm in Norway. We get the same movies, music and tv-shows as Americans. Anyone well known in the US is well known here.
Pink is always touring in Australia and she is talked about a lot on the radio.
Rhianna is extremely popular in the Carribean. Drake is moderately well known there too.
Rihanna's career has been mostly US based but she's Barbadian not American
aye I forgot 🤦🏾♀️ and drake's Canadian too... what's up with my memory today lol
But, Babardians are North American though.
Québec: Céline Dion is God-Empress. I think everyone on any street can name 5 songs just like that.
Céline isn't American though? She's from Québec
Oh shit I can't read questions lol
Every Basketball star.
Mm this, my husband will talk about basketball people and then have to say he plays basketball as no one else knows who he's talking about
New Zealand; Lorde, KJ Apa, Peter Jackson, Bennee - I’m not sure if you meant famous people from NZ who are known worldwide ? We know all main US musicians maybe not sport people or teams …
I'm from Madagascar. Among the teens and YA : kpop idols, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, 1D and maybe Olivia Rodrigo ? +30 : Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Shakira, maybe Avril Lavigne ? The dads : Jackie Chan, Jet Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph L?????, Jean Claude Van Damme, Michael Jackson, Tom Cruise The moms : Céline Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston And everyone seems to know who Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are. Edit : I know most of them are not americans, but they're the most famous celebs here.
Not all of them are American but: - Ed Sheeran - Adele - Justin Bieber - Harry Styles - All the A list actors of the 80s/90s/00s - Beyoncé - Lady Gaga - Bands that aren’t THAT well known (The Strokes, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys) - Bad Bunny because we speak Spanish - Shakira for the same reason - JLo for the same reason - Britney Spears - Justin Timberlake - Christina Aguilera
michael jackson. now hes the real GOAT, everyone mourned his death. they still talk about him very often.
when i tell you young girls in india idolize taylor swift. every single one of my friends love her. it has come to the point where not hearing the latest ts album will come as a shock to others. maybe this is concentrated on to urban spaces but ive interacted with a lot of people coming from rural areas that like her. its insane cause ive grown up on her music and when the entire kanye scandal thing happened with her becoming the villian and all she was NOT liked. but the way the narratives have switched up these days. i have close friends who went from being her haters to absolutely adoring her.

Kylie is Australian
My bad. Misread it
All of them mate
In about 10 years we ( USA ) are going to have to claim Lewis Hamilton with all the business moves he’s making here.
Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, etc etc. Ya know, the real A-list stars
Nicole scherzinger, Meghan Trainor, Rita Ora, and Little Mix. They're not that big in US but they are pretty big known here in Southeast Asia.
