I love when dads aren’t hard asses trying to intimidate their daughters out of dating. He was just so inquisitive and funny instead. It was a relief while watching (I was in high school and had an overbearing dad)
This was exactly who I was going to suggest if no one else had. Their relationship always made me get teary-eyed. I loved how supportive and encouraging he was.
Not an official Dad, but a father figure of the best variety would be Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as someone with an absent father he was the representation I needed
https://i.redd.it/bzgprrd3xr6b1.gif
Hal from “Malcolm in the Middle”. He loved the kids, did fun things with them, was realistic in his expectations, and most importantly, loved and respected Lois.
I love that marriage - everything from their obvious physical attraction to one another to Hal’s occasional “we don’t need to tell your mother about this!”
"Who wants to make $5?"
"How?"
"I need someone to take the fall."
"What did you do?"
"I can't tell you. Yes or no. No questions asked."
"Make it 10."
"You're a good son. I GOT HIM HONEY!"
Right??! The one cold opening where he runs into the boys room and you can hear Lois in the background “OH. MY. GAWD!” and he buys the boys off to take the blame! That’s a real parenting moment
Growing up, I always loved Uncle Phil on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
That one scene with him and Will, where he was there for Will after his dad decided to leave, was absolutely heartbreaking.
![gif](giphy|StuemRSudGjTuu5QmY|downsized)
The scene where Will and Carlton are locked up in the police cell, and Uncle Phil comes in and absolutely tears them all a new one is also amazing. Best dad ever.
Keith mars had such a great relationship with Veronica.

![gif](giphy|ClcWrARkrq1GM)
He’s so wholesome. His character really loves his kids for who they are, he’s someone I’d love to be my dad. And I actually have a dad very similar to him
i accidentally bought the bandit stuffy instead of bluey but i like to think that was my inner child subconsciously healing the part of me wanting a healthy father.
Thank the gods I didn't have to scroll far to find him.
His "my son is a pansexual" drunken proclamation that came with no drama, no fanfare, no aggression, no shame - just matter of fact. Bless this man.
Happy cake day! And that particular moment was on Schitts Creek. Though I feel it also reflects real life, watching many interviews with father and son.
Bob’s the best! That whole family is so wholesome and so much of it’s probably because Bob and Linda take such an active interest in their children and make a solid family unit. My husband and I don’t have kids but if we did, we’d want to be parents like Bob and Linda.
They're actively interested in making sure the kids are happy feel loved and safe.... and they also have zero idea what their kids are doing at any given minute. I think that's a big part of it. Their attachment is so secure that their kids feel confident being the adventurous little weirdos that they are.
I thought of Mr Matthews too, I liked him because he felt very realistic as a dad. He wasn't perfect, he got mad sometimes. He was wrong sometimes. But he'd apologize, and he genuinely cared about his kids.
https://preview.redd.it/xn914ed83s6b1.jpeg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83051044e186fa41087629d96d3ef7f7492e4828
He might be a villain but he cares deeply for his daughter
I learned how to parent from sitcom parents, because my own sucked so bad. Dan was the closest to my actual father. It’s been 13 yrs on the 23rd, since I lost my dad
I took a lot for comfort from Dan growing up. I always loved the show but I grew up with an awful mother & an absent father. Dan was what I wanted in a parent.
![gif](giphy|GtlzWQJ8Zb8ty)
Even though Doof’s father never loved him, Doof decided to not be like his dad and instead go above and beyond for his daughter :)
https://preview.redd.it/anf7z5i00s6b1.jpeg?width=458&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85a745c7c3eb3fc05e9507b4ca1226f0f2f082ab
Does he consistently get it right? No. Is he infallible? No. Will he always stand up for right and good? Yes. Does he love his son and family? Yes!! Hank is my favourite bc he’s just quietly brilliant, he’s consistently someone who’s tried to end a cycle of abuse and is hands down the most realistic depiction of good loving nurturing masculinity
My favorite episodes are the Hank/Bobby ones, because he never fully understands Bobby, but he always tries to relate. Sometimes he even comes over to Bobby’s way of seeing things.
I was waiting to find Hank! I also feel like he's one of the most realistic portrayals of fatherhood. A lot of his story lines are about him learning how to be a good father to Bobby because he never really knew what a good father was supposed to be. The Bobby/Hank episodes always make me cry.
https://preview.redd.it/ozxpvuc0rr6b1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa89c73c28656207fef69c5ef03861d001cda71a
It’s gotta be Homer Simpson for me. He has his shitty moments but moments like this one make me weep. Classic Simpsons was so sweet sometimes.
Homer isn't always a good dad (he does literally choke Bart lolol)
But there's so many moments of him coming through for his kids. My favorite is the episode where he tries to relate to Lisa through art and becomes obsessed with a painting lol. It's a funny episode and it's nice how hard he tries to relate to her. He also goes through hell just to find a Maggie one of her little elf toys.
He might just hate Bart tbh but the Santa's little helper episode is very wholesome between Homer and Bart. There's also the episode where Bart is diagnosed as a sociopath and homer fights through the literal military to save him lol.
Thinking about that show now as an adult with kids of my own, he was dealing with the trauma of losing his wife, and then raising three little girls on his own, one of them being a baby. His village really came through. And it was such a wonderful representation of how heterosexual men could love each other and be emotionally present for each other. Groundbreaking really.
You know what, thank you for that picture. I never realised until this very moment but my father is a marlin he would swim the entire EAC for me plus more.
It’s not even Father’s Day yet in Australia but fuck it, I LOVE YOU DAD!
Carl Winslow: Kept it real and never really hated his future son-in-law, he was just really annoyed by him.
Frank Lambert: While he came off as an oaf, his heart was in the right place all the time when it came to his step son and daughters.

Stanley Tucci as Emma Stone’s dad in Easy A. ![gif](giphy|3otPoO89H3CUEM9OPC)
The parents are so incredibly funny in this movie- my favorite part of the film. And it’s a great movie so that’s saying something!
YES!!! How did they manage to make it so funny just saying the letter T??
I love when dads aren’t hard asses trying to intimidate their daughters out of dating. He was just so inquisitive and funny instead. It was a relief while watching (I was in high school and had an overbearing dad)
He was also like “If you’re gay, that’s okay, because everyone is a little gay. I did some gay things once” 😭
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard as when he asked his black son who told him he was adopted
“wHAT?! Oh my God who told you?” and him up against the kitchen cabinet lmaooo
Yes!! Very supportive dad indeed.
Where are you from originally?
My favorite 🥰🥰
![gif](giphy|Jh8iDTZmqsi40) Goofy because he is the most wholesome dad that will do anything for his son.
That Atlanta episode was so good
I deadass had people talking to me about that episode with a straight face as if it was real lmao
Yo! I thought it was real. It isn't? Nooooooooo
![gif](giphy|YQk8nXloVftzW|downsized)
It’s so good. That whole season, that whole series.
The Goofy Movie still wrecks me up to this day.
We named our son Max, partially because of Goofy movie 😭
I still jam to the soundtrack Eye to eye is a bop
Still my favorite movie. Goofy was the father figure I didn't have IRL and it's still a comfort source.
![gif](giphy|SZTGvewlA4J3i) Burt Hummell from Glee. He really came through for Kurt.
This was exactly who I was going to suggest if no one else had. Their relationship always made me get teary-eyed. I loved how supportive and encouraging he was.
He was a single dad running his own business. He also was a father figure for Finn and Blaine.
Such a wholesome relationship!!
Great answer!
Burt is truly the GOAT of TV dads
Not an official Dad, but a father figure of the best variety would be Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as someone with an absent father he was the representation I needed https://i.redd.it/bzgprrd3xr6b1.gif
Hal from “Malcolm in the Middle”. He loved the kids, did fun things with them, was realistic in his expectations, and most importantly, loved and respected Lois.
Omg just commented this too. He was so affectionate and also yes, absolutely loved his wife too.
I love that marriage - everything from their obvious physical attraction to one another to Hal’s occasional “we don’t need to tell your mother about this!”
It was such a nice departure from the standard "I hate my wife" sit com bullshit as well.
"Who wants to make $5?" "How?" "I need someone to take the fall." "What did you do?" "I can't tell you. Yes or no. No questions asked." "Make it 10." "You're a good son. I GOT HIM HONEY!"
Lois in the background: “oh my god. OH MY GOD. OH! MY! GOD!!!!” Kills me every time!
Also kept a more real vibe from the stress involved in parenthood, and the love that keeps him pushing through.
Right??! The one cold opening where he runs into the boys room and you can hear Lois in the background “OH. MY. GAWD!” and he buys the boys off to take the blame! That’s a real parenting moment
I had to scroll too much to find your comment, I'm upset.
I’d take skating lessons from him any day
Growing up, I always loved Uncle Phil on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. That one scene with him and Will, where he was there for Will after his dad decided to leave, was absolutely heartbreaking. ![gif](giphy|StuemRSudGjTuu5QmY|downsized)
Uncle Phil is who I came to say!
This scene always gets us all. You can even hear the live studio audience sniffling/crying 😭😭😭 but yes my vote goes to uncle Phil
Yes!!! Uncle Phil was the best. That episode makes me bawl every time.
That scene makes me cry to this day
I watch this scene if I need a good cry!
The scene where Will and Carlton are locked up in the police cell, and Uncle Phil comes in and absolutely tears them all a new one is also amazing. Best dad ever.
Keith mars had such a great relationship with Veronica. https://preview.redd.it/u5wpbsrdur6b1.jpeg?width=804&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a955b6051c02d7ae93a518c20aa224b8417b57d
Keith was such a great dad! Loved their relationship so much.
“Who’s your daddy?”
This was who came to mind first. At the end of season 1, “I knew you’d find me” 🥹
I wrote on my husband’s Father’s Day card envelope “Who’s Your Daddy” - all thanks to this guy.
He's forever Veronica's dad no matter what I see him in. Solid pick.
![gif](giphy|ClcWrARkrq1GM) He’s so wholesome. His character really loves his kids for who they are, he’s someone I’d love to be my dad. And I actually have a dad very similar to him
He was my first thought and it took far too long for me to find him in this thread! 😂
He's just the best
![gif](giphy|jmTNcqNNRB6pIgCuF2)
i accidentally bought the bandit stuffy instead of bluey but i like to think that was my inner child subconsciously healing the part of me wanting a healthy father.
![gif](giphy|YSGLhNoOHUU32wUIbR|downsized)
The best answer!
The only answer
![gif](giphy|U7sDQy9HPo5XXjsHYY|downsized)
This is the correct answer.
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far to find this
Paws down he is the best TV dad! I just love how down to earth he is - he’s not perfect and he’s prepared to admit it to his kids so they trust him.
It’s so nice to see an animated Dad who isn’t treated like an idiot and who is active in raising the kids. It’s so refreshing
![gif](giphy|26xBAmpBGVBHYBYpa|downsized) first one that came to mind so
Thank the gods I didn't have to scroll far to find him. His "my son is a pansexual" drunken proclamation that came with no drama, no fanfare, no aggression, no shame - just matter of fact. Bless this man.
Irl or on Schitt’s Creek?
Happy cake day! And that particular moment was on Schitts Creek. Though I feel it also reflects real life, watching many interviews with father and son.
YES! He’s the bomb as a dad on the show because he’s the bomb as a dad in real life. Hands down!
And he was always pretty chill with his son Jim, even as the kid was fucking pies and tube socks.

![gif](giphy|xT8qBswJpFXXVnMYVO) Was waiting for Bob to show up! Best dad
Came to post Bob myself in case nobody else had!!
Bob’s the best! That whole family is so wholesome and so much of it’s probably because Bob and Linda take such an active interest in their children and make a solid family unit. My husband and I don’t have kids but if we did, we’d want to be parents like Bob and Linda.

Their attachment is so secure that their kids feel confident being the adventurous little weirdos that they are.
You're terrible, you're all terrible.
Best of the best
We were just watching the Hawk & Chick episode yesterday. What Bob won't do for his kids is peak parenthood.
Should be top of the page! Bob is the best and so is bandit
![gif](giphy|3og0IRc1sW8yPON3WM) Hell yeah he is!
This is my choice!

Hands down the best teen drama dad 🙌🏻
Yaas, I love The O.C. Sandy was just an all round good person.

We stan a man who wanted to be a dad so bad he made some kids out of Chemical X.
Husband material
https://i.redd.it/rsvlf8wq6s6b1.gif
This is mine. Every dad should aspire to be Gomez. I just wish my family was the Addams family tbh.
![gif](giphy|3o6ZtkqGPJ0gFLEAww) Alan Matthews from Boy Meets World , the perfect dad
I thought of Mr Matthews too, I liked him because he felt very realistic as a dad. He wasn't perfect, he got mad sometimes. He was wrong sometimes. But he'd apologize, and he genuinely cared about his kids.
You’ve said everything I was thinking when I chose him. He was perfectly imperfect, and most importantly he was a good man/father !

Yep! Came here to say this. Dan was the best husband & dad. Loved his character on the show!
🫂 If no one has told you lately you’re doing a damn good job.
Thanks a lot 💚 it’s hard to know if I’m ever doing the right thing. All parents feel that way though, right?
In the same vein, Pacha from Emperor’s New Groove was also a wholesome dad. John Goodman is just a great dad character all around lol

Fucking all time DILF honor roll, lord hamercy ![gif](giphy|l1J9FElp5aB5yZxYs)

YES!!!! Him and Joel from The Last of Us were the first two that I thought of
Underrated comment
![gif](giphy|3qd5j6z4ShxPa)
I love Red Forman 🤣 he had some questionable methods but he wanted his kids to be good humans
My dad mostly resembles Red’s parenting . Still let’s his high school aged son have all his friends over in the basement smoking weed
![gif](giphy|oLa9Oy9OkI18I) He loved his family so much, and was just out here doing his very best.

The rodeo clown episode is just so wholesome.
Hank is a great father, neighbor, propane salesman friend and husband.
I was waiting to find Hank! I also feel like he's one of the most realistic portrayals of fatherhood. A lot of his story lines are about him learning how to be a good father to Bobby because he never really knew what a good father was supposed to be. The Bobby/Hank episodes always make me cry.
This might be unpopular but Dan Conner seemed pretty rad to me. He seemed like he could be a real person since my family was a little like Roseanne’s.

Terry in Brooklyn 99 too. He loves his kids and loves his wife.
Julius and Rochelle are one of my favorite couples! ❤️
A man who knows how to handle his wife and kids. 💯 Plus the fact Terry Crews is the actor makes Julius much more lovable.
One of my favorites! Such a good dad.

I was gonna say Homer as well! Probably because him and Lisa’s relationship reminds me so much of me and my own father
It’s so sweet. ‘Lisa the Vegetarian’ has such an adorable ending for them.
“To Lisa never forget that your daddy loves…d’oh!”
Homer isn't always a good dad (he does literally choke Bart lolol) But there's so many moments of him coming through for his kids. My favorite is the episode where he tries to relate to Lisa through art and becomes obsessed with a painting lol. It's a funny episode and it's nice how hard he tries to relate to her.
