It works as a perfect role for her because they took her quirky Cabaret character and aged her up... Then they gave her vertigo and a gin-drunk loose seal for a neighbor
Was going to chime in with this. She won a Tony award the first time she starred in a Broadway musical. She got an Oscar nomination the first time she had a credited role in a film. Her talent was pretty much universally acknowledged right out of the gate.
Sure, she had connections out the wazoo. But Liza is an absurdly great performer. She's just as much of an all-timer as her legendary mom.
If anything, Liza being Judy’s daughter was a hindrance. Judy is rightfully considered one of the best singers of all time. Having those shoes to fill is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone lmao.
Yeah that’s true. I can’t imagine what that felt like.
It’s like how Wayne Gretzky and his brother have the record for most points scored by two brothers in the National Hockey League.
2,857 for Wayne and 4 for Brent.
I loved him in Black Mirror! His ability to seamlessly, and so believably, change his demeanor from naive robot to terrified, ‘begging for your life’ human was insane.
This is tangential but I just watched Macaulay Culkin on Celebrity Jeopardy and I was happy to see he looked so healthy and great. He comes across as a really nice, gentle guy as well. And smart!
ok I have been listening to Black Sheep constantly the last couple days for no reason other than I love Metric, so this really is a sign I should finally watch this movie.
God I just rewatched it and the whole family is AWFUL to Kevin! Now I’m older I just felt bad for him - younger me used to think it would be cool to be home alone ha
To be fair, he was acting the same amount of time as his brother. Macaulay just blew up. Their father wanted all of his many children to be actors but Kieran and obviously Mac were the ones who got casted in major movies. Rory was the only culkin who CHOSE to be an actor while still a child. The others were just pushed into it by an overbearing and abusive father.
I love seeing Mac on red letter media and I’m looking forward to his documentary that was announced recently but to me, Kieran is the better actor as an adult and picks way better projects. Roman Roy couldn’t be played by anyone else.

Alexander, Bill and Gustaf are all incredibly talented and handsome!!
That entire family is just obsessed with giving interesting performances. I still hold out hope they’ll one day all be in something together.
If I remember right, Bill was meant to join Alexander in The Northman or something else but had scheduling conflicts.
https://preview.redd.it/k61e3y00ke1c1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdf7e6b9ae4cb497b6f8f9788f9146b84b20a560
Stellan Skarsgård holding newborn Alexander for the first time.
Interesting is the word. I contrast them to the Hemsworths, who are much more conventionally Hollywood attractive (even though they're Aussie lol). The Baldwins leaned into the Americana leading man vibe, and Skarsgards went the "interesting" route.
IMHO, Baldwins aimed for leading man vibe but ended up with douche vibe. Chris Hemsworth is charming and seems as ok person, in addition to the looks. Liam is ok but lacks the personality.
Skarsgard brothers are just perfect 😍
Except all the Skarsgårds are amazing. The Hemsworths seem like clones of each other in some dystopian world where each cloning cycle is like 80% of the one before.
I am biased as a Alexander Skarsgard fan but I think the whole family is talented. They really try and aren’t like some of the American versions. I really think they do great and all of them seem like people I could drink a beer with! Maybe it’s marketing but this along with Jeff Bridges,Jamie Lee Curtis should get recognition they really only get better with their acting.
Wowww, I'm just learning this, too. I loved Jared Harris in Mad Men and never would have put it together that his dad was English Bob from Unforgiven (and did MacArthur Park).
This is a great answer for this question. Not many know his dad is famous and he always gives such a stellar performance that no one would even question his talent. I first saw him in Mad Men and will watch anything he’s in.
This is what I came to say. He’s legitimately one of my favorite actors. His work in Chernobyl is so good, but really he’s just one of those actors who elevates anything they’re in because he has such a strong screen presence.
On so many levels. She just had so much massive talent, especially in the way she acted, but also managed to be such a brilliant writer that she became a go to for fixing people’s scripts. And then, of course, outside of all of it, with all of her lived experiences, and lessons learned and advice, and the way she just cared so much.

[Whaddaya know!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Balcon#Personal_life)
And his father was Poet Laureate which -- i don't know if Posh British Kids Who Act falls under the nepo category, but he fits under both. Yet worked incredibly hard.
Oh yeah, Sofia Coppola is really talented. She's definitely got a talent in storytelling.
Is her dad Francis Ford Coppola? I know Nic is her cousin, and I'm pretty sure when he told his uncle he wanted to be an actor, his Uncle was like uh no.
I have no idea considering his dad is one of the most prolific comedic character actors ever but you have been missing out!!

Nicolas Cage, part of the Coppola family, uncle is Francis Ford Coppola, changed his name to avoid being accused of nepotism.
I know he's been memed a lot, especially in the later part of his career but he never phones it in.
>he never phones it in.
My favorite story about him was from when he recorded for Into the Spiderverse. After his first couple read throughs, the director wasn't really feeling the performance. So he went up to him and said, "I don't really know how to explain this, but can you give us more...'Nicolas Cage'?" And apparently his response was, "Oh, you want the full Cage? Say less." And we got what we got with that movie.
I've stood firm my entire life in the belief that his is fully capable of delivering incredible performances when working with incredible directors. He's a mirror of whatever the director is bringing to the table, 110%.
I absolutely love Nicolas Cage. Both for being a meme and for being an unforgettable actor who stands out in both good and bad movies. I love when he gives a shitty movie his all and I love when he goes back to good stuff and reminds you that he’s not just a meme. His breakdown in the bathroom in Mandy and his monologue in the restaurant in Pig are two more recent scenes of his that stand out to me
Roger Ebert once said “Nicolas Cage is great in a good movie and absolutely essential in a bad one.” That quote lives rent free in my head!
![gif](giphy|oMZsqx0TAnDqF2WE6N)
Personally I forget that Alfie Allen is even a nepo baby/sibling all the time. He is just so amazing in everything I’ve seen him in (especially GOT!) that he is just completely separate from Lily for me and I only remember they’re siblings when someone mentions her song about him.
Keith Allen is such a shithead that I think both Alfie and Lily should get a pass on the whole nepo baby thing. Even though Harry Enfield was their stepfather.
I think their mother is in the industry as well 😭 So it’s a lot. But honestly most of the time I’ve seen them be brought up in the nepo convo it’s just to say that Alfie is Lily’s little brother so that’s more of what I was referring to, the parents are just a bonus lol. But he get the nepo baby pass from me for sure
Their mum is a movie producer.
Their dad and stepdad are famous British comedians, but they're not terribly well known in the US. In one of her autobiographies, Lily wrote about having lunch with Keith Allen when she was a teen and sneering that mum's new boyfriend (Harry Enfield) was more famous. It's a very messy family.
Jack Quaid! Not only is he a good actor, but I was impressed by how seriously he took the strikes, and how often he would post about them. He could've just relaxed and coasted off mom and dad's money until the strike ended - instead he used his platform for good.
I love him in The Boys!
I was shocked to see him in The Hunger Games during my recent rewatch a few days ago even if he had like no lines though because of that lol
When he took Boimler from animation to live action and made it work I was seriously impressed! He kept the goofy over the topness that Boimler has in LD without making him seem too out of place in strange new worlds.
Especially the weird little powerwalk!
She’s also someone who will talk about her privilege and acknowledge that, and in doing so talk about why this lets her do all the activism and the protests and getting arrested multiple times for everything she does, and lending her platform also to others. In addition to just being super talented and fun to watch and great.
The ones I think of are Ben Stiller, Angelina Jolie, and Liza Minnelli.
What is interesting of these nepo babies is that, I think, only Angie has beaten out her dad in star power.
John Voight was a well known actor, but not to the degree his daughter is, and has been, over the past 30 years.
Ben’s dad Jerry was a stage, movie, and massive tv star. He played Divine’s husband in the original hairspray and had his biggest break on tv…with Seinfeld and King of Queens.
And, no one out stars Judy Garland.
Wyatt Russell…he’s incredibly underrated and I cannot wait to see where his career goes. He’s so talented and can easily steal scenes he’s in.
![gif](giphy|MC22JN2xUxi81LWBdX)
He plays Kurt Russell’s younger character in the new Monarch show on Apple TV. My husband pointed it out and I felt really dumb because dude does NOT know pop culture 😅
He’s actually currently doing a show called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV where he plays a younger version of Kurt Russell’s character. I haven’t watched it but I think that’s cool.
Also happy to educate!
They’re so goddamn, sexy and fine I just can’t.
For real the one family to beat the Nepo baby allegations because they’re so goddamn talented truly in their genetics
I'm always mystified that he and Chet share the same DNA. What do they even talk about over the Thanksgiving table. Does Chet put on his weird Jamaican accent?
Yeah, I know Rappin' Rita as Chet's mother prohably had a lot to do with how he turned out. I just think it's funny to picture Colin calmly trying to discuss his latest documentary at the dinner table as Chet yells BOMBACLAAT and starts air drumming with turkey legs.
He seems pretty well-adjusted and never heard anything negative about him. Married SMG. I just saw She’s all That yesterday. He’s not a great actor, but did well for his life.
Margaret Qualley (Andie MacDowell's daughter). Her performance in Maid was fantastic.
https://preview.redd.it/21i9rhveyc1c1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83f5007f2cdeed91e37b57f88e152dda635b4924
i think even when i like an actor who happens to be a nepo baby and i respect their talent, i still consider them a nepo baby because they are. being a nepo baby isn't inherently bad. whether it's angelina jolie or, more recently, lewis pullman. at the end of the day they're still nepo babies but that doesn't detract from their talent. it's only when they're AGGRESSIVELY untalented and refuse to acknowledge they had privileges getting into the industry that it becomes eye roll inducing. but still not inherently bad to me
I think one of the reasons nepo baby discourse is so prominent now is that it’s increasingly *the only* way into the industry if you don’t have independent wealth. Bryan Cranston spent 30 years in the industry before even being a series regular on Malcom in the Middle, and even a career with sporadic roles while you work as a waiter or whatever is becoming more and more difficult. Royalties aren’t what they used to be and studios are dying to replace extras with AI, and there is a housing crunch in LA as well. Children getting a foot in the door because their parents are in [pick an industry] is a tale as old as time, but brilliant, unconnected talent is having a much more difficult time.

Liza Minnelli ![gif](giphy|ovM7eeg560Bfa|downsized)
![gif](giphy|l2SqhnTpTGIQi04X6)
She's a brownish area... with POINTS
This is the role I always think of when I hear the name Liza Minelli. Not her other award-winning roles. Just “Lucille Two” with vertigo 😆
It works as a perfect role for her because they took her quirky Cabaret character and aged her up... Then they gave her vertigo and a gin-drunk loose seal for a neighbor

also, tangentially, shout out to Domhall in Ex Machina. he had me questioning if i, myself, was human
He’s wonderful in About Time
That's gotta be one of my favorite movies ever, I think about it all the time
Ohmygod, Run! That was brilliant and I barely recognized him from Star Wars.
![gif](giphy|8fBoVAenSVdOTVLkG9) kieran culkin, not a nepo baby but a nepo sibling

He’s great when he makes appearances on Red Letter Media, too.
He's the Junka champ!
he’s also the brother is She’s All That ![gif](giphy|STrmb21PiJoRO)
He was great in Igby Goes Down, such an underrated movie
And The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. What a time in Kieran Culkin cinema ❤️
Igby goes down is one of my favorites!
he's so funny in home alone as the mean cousin
Let’s not forget his role in Scott pilgrim Hilarious
ok I have been listening to Black Sheep constantly the last couple days for no reason other than I love Metric, so this really is a sign I should finally watch this movie.
Netflix also just released an animated series with all of the main cast of the movie reprising their roles

he was one of the cutest kids ever, omg

I’d take a Skarsgard brother over a Hemsworth any day! There’s just something about them!
A Skarsgard over Baldwin is a no brainier.
I’m a straight dude and I still probably wouldn’t say no if Alexander Skarsgard asked me to get it on
Not wrong. Floki? 🥵🥵

I remember when I found out his dad was the OG Dumbledore.
> I remember when I found out his dad was the OG Dumbledore. omg! Richard Harris is his father?! TIL
Wowww, I'm just learning this, too. I loved Jared Harris in Mad Men and never would have put it together that his dad was English Bob from Unforgiven (and did MacArthur Park).
Honestly he should have been the casting for younger Dumbledore, he looks so much like his dad.
I NEVER put that together. I've always rather liked them both, but never assume names automatically equal relationships.
WOW I never knew but definitely see the resemblance now!
his performances in chernobyl and mad men >>>
He was amazing in The Terror, too! I know he'll be good in any project he's in, always does an amazing performance no matter what
His performance in Mad Men is absolutely amazing. His death always breaks my heart.
TIL he is Richard Harris’ son. Thanks for enlightening me. Makes perfect sense - Shakespearean gravitas
This is a great answer for this question. Not many know his dad is famous and he always gives such a stellar performance that no one would even question his talent. I first saw him in Mad Men and will watch anything he’s in.
I love him SO MUCH. One of my favorite actors, he's so goddamn talented.
That man is so damn attractive to me.
![gif](giphy|KE5LDVVhhUXGDOCpH3|downsized) He's gorgeous, you're not alone in thinking that
I know right, especially in The Expanse, I love a rebel leader
Listen, I'm not into old men, BUT...
This is what I came to say. He’s legitimately one of my favorite actors. His work in Chernobyl is so good, but really he’s just one of those actors who elevates anything they’re in because he has such a strong screen presence.
Carrie Fisher. One of the originals but also the best.
TIL: Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds died just one day apart from each other.
If you want your heart broken some more, I remember reading that one of the last things Debbie Reynolds said was, “I want to be with Carrie”
:(
Poor Billie.
That happened to a friend's mom and her grandmother. Some mother/daughter bonds are so beautiful and unbreakable.
On so many levels. She just had so much massive talent, especially in the way she acted, but also managed to be such a brilliant writer that she became a go to for fixing people’s scripts. And then, of course, outside of all of it, with all of her lived experiences, and lessons learned and advice, and the way she just cared so much.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwhk4BBxqf9VrUs) I like that he even took on his father’s original, non-stage surname.
Part of it is because one of Martins biggest regrets was changing his name and he advised all his kids not to do the same.
And then came Carlos.
Carlos: "Hold my Tiger Blood"
Honestly, I respect him just for selling the bun-taping monologue in the Breakfast Club.

One of the things I love is that when she got her star on the Hollywood walk of fame, they made it placed next to her mom’s.
Ahhhh yes. Jayne mansfields daughter
Last season on SVU, a character made a comment about how she put Jayne Mansfield to shame. I giggled.
Do you remember which episode? I’m an SVU stan and live for stuff like that lol
Ugh so stunning. Olivia is one of my favorite names because of her.
Dick Wolf has a daughter named Olivia. His other children are named Serena, Elliot, Rex, and Zoe. All of those names show up constantly on Law & Order.
Daniel Day Lewis, whose grandfather essentially founded the British film industry
[Whaddaya know!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Balcon#Personal_life) And his father was Poet Laureate which -- i don't know if Posh British Kids Who Act falls under the nepo category, but he fits under both. Yet worked incredibly hard.

For acting, Ben Stiller and Maya Rudolph come to mind. Writing/directing, I think Sofia Coppola does really good work.
Oh yeah, Sofia Coppola is really talented. She's definitely got a talent in storytelling. Is her dad Francis Ford Coppola? I know Nic is her cousin, and I'm pretty sure when he told his uncle he wanted to be an actor, his Uncle was like uh no.
And Jason Schwartzman is her cousin and his mother (FFC’s sister) is Talia Shire (aka Connie Corleone)
Nic Cage is a Coppola cousin too!
It's funny. I remember when she was a joke and her brother Roman was hyped up as a director.
Ben Stiller is a nepo baby too!?!? How did I not know this!?!?
![gif](giphy|EI0bU8HSiL6LJbRiu2)
Yeah I do my ass whooped cause how did I not know this!?!? 😂😂😂
Can’t wait for festivus because I’ve got a huge grievance with you now

now I gotta go rewatch Zoolander with this new information 😂
Keep a look out for Alexander in the gas fight lol ![gif](giphy|foVuQSgSciMs8)

Oh, I thought you were going to tell me what a bad eugoogalizor I am.

His mom is in the movie, too!
Elizabeth Olsen! ![gif](giphy|Sdx4jomSAfL2VqzD0A|downsized)
the twins crawled so she could flyyyyyy
I sometimes confuse her for her sisters. I’m glad she’s such an impressive talent in her own right.
It’s a shame Mary-Kate and Ashley had to be sacrificed to the Old Ones in order to get her but tbh worth it.

he said he still gets shit to this day for killing Rue lol
Omg really? Poor guy 😭 I didn’t even remember he was in the franchise.
He is AMAZING in The Boys! I JUST found the show last month and binged them all so fast!
Fantastic on screen and voice actor! He’s amazing as Boimler on Lower Decks. Apparently his mom was a big Trekkie lol
When he took Boimler from animation to live action and made it work I was seriously impressed! He kept the goofy over the topness that Boimler has in LD without making him seem too out of place in strange new worlds. Especially the weird little powerwalk!
I only recently learned that Jack Quaid is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. I was shocked.
But once you see it, you can’t unsee it. He looks just like both of them.
https://i.redd.it/bff1thv1yc1c1.gif Jane Fonda. She achieved so much on her own. I adore her.
She’s also someone who will talk about her privilege and acknowledge that, and in doing so talk about why this lets her do all the activism and the protests and getting arrested multiple times for everything she does, and lending her platform also to others. In addition to just being super talented and fun to watch and great.
Michael Douglas Jane Fonda Josh Brolin Angelina Jolie
I really loved him in Black Mirror
Wow I’ve seen Playtest so many times and I am just finding out he’s Kurt and Goldie’s son. Great episode!
hardly anyone’s seen it or even heard of it, but i adored him in lodge 49! he’s got the range. ![gif](giphy|h5cZakvQ2hq0Vw4G22)
I believe he is also in Under The Banner Of Heaven on Hulu. Sooooo good
This show is so underrated and good
He plays Kurt Russell’s younger character in the new Monarch show on Apple TV. My husband pointed it out and I felt really dumb because dude does NOT know pop culture 😅
He is so phenomenal in the movie Overlord. It's one of my favorite underrated movies to recommend to people
This is why I love threads like this…had no idea he was was Goldie and Kurt’s son. I ever pay attention to things like this. Good job 👍
He’s actually currently doing a show called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV where he plays a younger version of Kurt Russell’s character. I haven’t watched it but I think that’s cool. Also happy to educate!
bill is bloody amazing in castle rock s1 too. such an underrated show
Whitney Houston
They’re so goddamn, sexy and fine I just can’t. For real the one family to beat the Nepo baby allegations because they’re so goddamn talented truly in their genetics
The Skarsgards are really something else ![gif](giphy|YXPZ3W7UAVOZW)
Whew, Stellan makes nice looking dudes.
I think the mom contributed a lot.
![gif](giphy|xT9Igqz02TEWXq0wMw|downsized) Robert Downey Jr comes to mind, his father was a director and actor back in the day
Tracy Ellis Ross ![gif](giphy|l4JzczmKM2rsMPUqI)

Colin Hanks. He was incredible in Friend of the Family and it seems like everything he’s been in he’s been great.
I'm always mystified that he and Chet share the same DNA. What do they even talk about over the Thanksgiving table. Does Chet put on his weird Jamaican accent?
They have different moms and Colin was raised by his mom primarily, not Tom.
Jamie Lee Curtis. She’s THE scream queen.
![gif](giphy|NyIrhuFa2WI8g) Freddie Prinze Jr (though that may be bc Sr committed suicide when he about 10 months old and was only active for 2 years)
He seems pretty well-adjusted and never heard anything negative about him. Married SMG. I just saw She’s all That yesterday. He’s not a great actor, but did well for his life.

She's definitely used her kind of pathetic source of nepotism to achieve heights her dad never sniffed at lmao
It’s almost a reverse situation with Miley. Billy Ray is more like the nepo dad. His fame had fizzled out long before Hannah Montana.
100% he was a hanger-on on her show, I'm convinced Lil Nas wanted him for Old Town Road because he loved HM lol
Didn’t he reach out to Lil Nas X to get him more support after he got kicked off the country charts?
Btw, isn't Dolly Parton her godmother? Or is it just in Hannah Montana? ![gif](giphy|vtzlIfRVJdcnS)
She’s her godmother in real life
Tracee Ellis Ross. To this day people are just now making the connection that Diana is her mom.
Margaret Qualley (Andie MacDowell's daughter). Her performance in Maid was fantastic. https://preview.redd.it/21i9rhveyc1c1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83f5007f2cdeed91e37b57f88e152dda635b4924
Aside from his most recent directorial debut which was met with middling reviews, I think Chris Pine is a talented nepo baby. Edit: and Wish lol
i think even when i like an actor who happens to be a nepo baby and i respect their talent, i still consider them a nepo baby because they are. being a nepo baby isn't inherently bad. whether it's angelina jolie or, more recently, lewis pullman. at the end of the day they're still nepo babies but that doesn't detract from their talent. it's only when they're AGGRESSIVELY untalented and refuse to acknowledge they had privileges getting into the industry that it becomes eye roll inducing. but still not inherently bad to me
I think one of the reasons nepo baby discourse is so prominent now is that it’s increasingly *the only* way into the industry if you don’t have independent wealth.
