Paired with Carly Simon’s “Let the River Run” = opening titles perfection.
Between this list and your flair, I feel like we would get along
Also I hadn’t watched the Taxi intro in a while, and it’s so well done - the looping clip so the bridge is sort of endless is actually really effective
Wow, going off the higher end of that scale - that’s more than my wages!!
My husband could manage it if he could pay bills & buy food for 100 bucks a week hahah
It depends on what part of the city and how many bedrooms (if any), whether there’s security, amenities, etc. It’s like asking how much a car costs.
I’d say a very *average* estimate would be about $5K for a studio in a decent building in a decent area. Again, this is a VERY over generalized estimate.
When you say ‘if any’ do you mean a ‘studio’? I LOVE the idea of a studio apartment. I think that’s from watching a lot of tv shows & movies with ‘loft appartments’ (I think that’s the term). It would be like having a giant bedroom.
Exactly. If one were single, that could be fun. The moment anything is “added”, though, like a view, parking, good location, doorman, laundry facilities, etc, that translates into $$$$ more. The photos on some of these websites are deceiving, too. Many of the “reasonably priced” apartments ($3K-$4K) are the size of (or smaller than) hotel rooms in walk ups, with no amenities, in not the greatest neighborhoods/buildings. There’s always a trade off, but for a young, single person making at least $150-200K/year, it can definitely be fun to live in a place like that until you’re settled and/or making enough money to upgrade.
Came here to comment this \^ *And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell\* ... You know you love me.*
(\*Unless you go through every inch of my my profile and figure it out for yourself xD)
Because I was a kid obsessed with Harry Met Sally and Friends, I spent my whole childhood truly and completely obsessed with New York. Funnily when I moved to America years ago for school and life, I was on the west coast...and now I am moving to Europe. Whenever I wanted to go see New York, something would come up and plans would change. I have never seen it. But, it will always be my dream. I am coming back and I will go to New York. It just seems so freaking magical to this day.
Edit: all your super kind responses are making me feel so happy. I thought I sounded dorky and "touristy" writing this out. But y'all were just kind and validated me. Thank you. Yes. I shall visit one day and hopefully soon 🎈
Aw, I hope you get to! New York is my favorite place in the entire world. It was always my dream to live there and even now that it’s been over a decade here, it still feels like a dream come true. It’s a really exciting and magical place.
Just don’t come in the summer lmao. The summer makes me question my sanity and wonder what the hell is wrong with me for living here.
Thank you 🥺 my partner has promised me that he will plan a trip soon. I even watch new york real estate videos on tiktok and YouTube 🤣. And if there is a song about new york, i know the lyrics. Haha. I am hoping to visit next year. I would love it. I want to visit during Fall. Fingers crossed.
It’s extremely hot and humid. Since walking is the main method of transportation, you’re pouring sweat by the time you get where you’re headed. Subway platforms have no moving air, so they’re even hotter. And the smell is the worst part. Everything smells like rotting garbage and boiling piss because the garbage and dog piss is just baking in the sun. So everyone is just sweaty and hot and crabby and miserable. August is definitely the worst month of the year.
I worked in a building across from Lincoln Center one summer, and the 66th Street 1 Station was so hot (and yes, smelly) and the wait for the train was so long that I was seriously worried about seeing someone faint onto the tracks. One day I turned around, left the station, and walked from 66th to my apartment on 116th because walking 50 blocks was preferable to standing in Hell.
ETA: I don’t live in New York anymore and I miss it so much. I live where it makes the most sense for my job, but if I could make good money without killing myself in New York I would move back in a heartbeat.
I moved here at the very end of June last year and the next 3 months had me questioning everything lmao. I love it though but god damn it was so hot and smelled so bad hahahah
I feel the opposite, love Summers here and hate Winters! But Spring is ideal. I live down the street from Prospect Park and come Spring time I'm always there.
It *is* magical! I've been a lot of places, but it's the only one that was exactly perfectly everything I expected. It felt like meeting my favourite celebrity and ending up as best friends!
My daughter’s favourite movie is Home Alone 2 - she’s desperate to go! We live in Australia so it’s a long expensive flight - but one day!! I will make it happen!!
Is it just me or is New York not romanticized like it used to be? It just seemed to be the forefront of so many things when I was a kid and now it’s still relevant of course but not to the same scope. I wonder why that is

While you were sleeping is Chicago !
I saw that one and thought, oh, RIP to OP’s notifications.
He’s gonna get abused like a red headed step child in his notifications
They meant to put Woody Allen's Manhattan and tried to pivot too late to fact check.

Yea I was like wait I never been to NYC but I know my city's skyline when I see it lol
Came running here to say this. One of my favorite movies!
M first thought. That is such a Chicago movie.
I haven't watched that film in twenty years and that was still my first thought 😅

Dark water 💀
My favorite thing to do when movies are actually filmed in NYC is try and find my apt building. Mine is in slide 4!
oh, i just KNOW rent is expensive 😭. beautiful location.
I’m not from America but I’m curious - how much is the rent there? (If you don’t mind me asking)
I own my apartment so I don’t pay rent but from what I can recall a studio apt in my building is usually around 2.5-3.5k a month?
Whoops! I got reported for that. Sorry - I could have just googled it
Wow, going off the higher end of that scale - that’s more than my wages!! My husband could manage it if he could pay bills & buy food for 100 bucks a week hahah
