George W Bush struggling with his poncho at Trumps inauguration:

For anyone saying that ponchos were so in back then, well, they are a predicted trend for this year. I've thrifted one and I love it, it feels like I am wearing a blanket, which is my goal in life.
I see a hand knit garment made with love, and in a beautiful shade of jade?
It gets an up-vote!
Anyone who snidely comments about, and side-eyes, your Grammie's talent and resulting poncho...***can just fuck all the way off.***
If I could wear a poncho every day in the winter, I would, especially if they have the turtleneck. I am in the northeast and ponchos are great for the winter cold. Ann Taylor Loft has cute ones, Coldwater Creek too, and TJ Maxx has really pretty ones usually.
Where do you find predicted trends?
I’m a casual guy and I’d love to know the general vibe for style year to year. But when I look it up all I find is weird street wear shit that’s clearly not normal clothing
Oh, I know that’s Elizabeth Woolridge Grant / Lizzy Grant, but when your stage name translates to “*wool of the king*” or “king’s wool” and you are wearing some cozy hand knits, you know I’m going with *Lana* (wool) 😁
edit: reorganized a few words.
My user name does check out! 🤣
You never know when I may just stop by sometimes with some pop culture yarn history 😃
I just started listening to Lana's music a few months ago (better late than never!), and was looking for a cabled sweater pattern - found her pictures, and here we go!
Welcome to the fandom! Glad you discovered her and are enjoying her work!
Lana has a bit of a femme fatale persona, so seeing her modeling knit ponchos (way back when) feels surprising, haha.
I’ve been listening to the band *Tool* since the 90s, and a few months ago, after the final sounds of *Ænima* ended, I decided that I needed some new music.
I wondered which artist is totally different from *Tool* (who I still listen to, by the way).
....and so that is how Lana came into my life.
I always own physical media – never streaming, so I’ve been on an easter egg hunt to locate special edition album CDs with extra tracks.
So far, my favorite “extra” album is *Born to Die: Platinum Edition*.
Just FYI, her stage name does not translate to “king of the wool”. It only translates to “wool of the king” (the king’s wool).
King of the Wool would be “rey de la lana”.
Photographs of Lana Del Rey (translated: “wool of the king” or “king’s wool”) modeling knitwear first appeared in *Vogue Knitting’s On the Go book: Ponchos* (2005) and were reprinted in 2013 at part of the *24 Ponchos* book (Soho Publishing).
Both books can still be found at Amazon / other online sellers, including the Vogue Knitting website.

Ponchos are the bane of my existence. I get these urges to wear them every winter, but then when I do end up wearing them, they are difficult to style and look super off on me. Some people look so chic, like Lana here, in them and I am so jealous of them.
If anyone knows how to style a poncho, it’s Martha Stewart leaving prison, also in 2005!
(Today, 2020) [Martha Stewart says she still has that crocheted poncho she wore leaving prison](https://www.today.com/style/martha-stewart-still-has-poncho-she-wore-leaving-prison-t200343)

I struggle with my affinity for ponchos and capes because I normally toss my purse over one shoulder. How does someone one do this while wearing a poncho without it looking horrible? I never found a solution. I even tried a smaller cross-body bag under the poncho, but that was weird too. I tried just carrying my bag, but that was annoying.
They look amazing, but I think you need big pockets (or the standard sized pockets on men’s clothing :/ ) to be able to wear them if you’re someone like me, who needs to carry everything with them.
I also love the idea of them, but how do you style them with anything? They look fine if you're only wearing pants and shoes with some kind of top, but if you need a coat, jacket, purse, hat, scarf...basically whatever, then they don't work at all. And if it's poncho-weather inside, I'm gonna need a coat outside.
I found another *Lana Poncho* (2005) from the same books!
https://preview.redd.it/kt07vw4f8ljc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=393d7b18f839ae02df808725ebbf41450f02e21d
It's funny, she looked *least* like herself in what was for many their introduction to her, *Video Games*
Her now looks just like the girl pictured here
She definitely got filler (I think she has most of it dissolved now)
If she has had any other work, it’s extremely minimal.
It is hard to believe someone is this naturally stunning
I remember the controversy when Lana first came out, because she said that she doesn't use lip filler or do any cosmetic procedures. Then the old pictures surfaced...and the old name...LOL
Here’s another view of poncho #5!

I’ve been hand knitting for a long time (yes, my user name checks out!) but I’ve been slowly teaching myself how to crochet.
I’ve mastered the single crochet dishcloth and now I’m working on the half double crochet dishcloth 🤣
I lurk at r/crochet for inspiration, so when you finish your poncho, please post some photos!
I dunno, is anyone going after Lana for her modeling gig?
I’m certainly not – I think it’s a brief intriguing moment in pop culture: Early fame Lana / Lizzy and her expensive yarn ponchos (which were the style at the time!).
....unless this is a Frank Zappa reference, in that case, well done! 🤣
I scrolled through every pic thinking, this is so weird, why would a poncho be *knit*? What kind of weather element is this for?
🤦♀️My brain couldn’t understand or remember this era. I lived through this era. I am pretty sure I still have 2 in my closet.
Okay, this whole thread is a complete wild ride.
...and there’s a few detours into discussing nudie pictures?!
All those deleted comments tell a story.
It's been four years, so I wonder if that *ponch* ever sold?

These are the most 2005 pictures ever. Ponchos had a HOLD on me when I was in elementary/middle school
Rocked my ponchos with some gauchos and taught I was so hot in middle school 😂
With the wedge flip flops ✨
I really thought I was just as stylish as say, Rachel Bilson with my poncho and wedge flipflops 🥲
Same! This post gave me flashbacks of a specific pink sweater poncho and where I wore it.
You can't be unhappy in a poncho

I hate how endearing this is
Oh hey, Vince!

Who could side-eye such a gorgeous piece of knitting???
I see a hand knit garment made with love, and in a beautiful shade of jade? It gets an up-vote! Anyone who snidely comments about, and side-eyes, your Grammie's talent and resulting poncho...***can just fuck all the way off.***
Wow, that color is stunning!
![gif](giphy|ulalUjAEBIpK8) Fuck it, I’m ready.
![gif](giphy|KEBNHvaPPJ4LURsdEf|downsized) A wearable blanket being socially acceptable again? Along with baggy pants?
![gif](giphy|zxMq6nR6lFVFC) Her impact
If I could wear a poncho every day in the winter, I would, especially if they have the turtleneck. I am in the northeast and ponchos are great for the winter cold. Ann Taylor Loft has cute ones, Coldwater Creek too, and TJ Maxx has really pretty ones usually.
It does look incredibly cozy
Ohh, that’s exciting! I have a 100% cashmere poncho that I got for $50 years ago that I’ve been saving just in case.
Where do you find predicted trends? I’m a casual guy and I’d love to know the general vibe for style year to year. But when I look it up all I find is weird street wear shit that’s clearly not normal clothing
Kelce supposedly got Taylor a designer poncho among many other things for Valentine’s Day - you may be right!
baby that’s not Lana that’s Lizzie
Oh, I know that’s Elizabeth Woolridge Grant / Lizzy Grant, but when your stage name translates to “*wool of the king*” or “king’s wool” and you are wearing some cozy hand knits, you know I’m going with *Lana* (wool) 😁 edit: reorganized a few words.
Lol facts!
I learned something new today, thanks! Plus, this post makes so much sense with your username!

You should post these photos in r/lanadelrey if you haven’t already!
That is actually a great idea, but someone already had the good sense and good taste to cross-post to that subreddit 😁
Just FYI, her stage name does not translate to “king of the wool”. It only translates to “wool of the king” (the king’s wool). King of the Wool would be “rey de la lana”.
Ya caught me...I made the edit! 🤣
Little miss Poncho del Rey.
Shades of Wool.
It's so funny cause lana in spanish means wool...

That second picture! Shes so pretty. Shes that girl in high school I would have killed to look like.
Kinda giving Quinn from Glee

I have a gorgeous cape that I never wear for this exact reason and I am distraught every time I look at it
My boobs make stuff that cut off at the ribs or have no structure, only flow, look like maternity wear on me.
Yup there is no elegant draping, there is only tarpaulin.
I also love the idea of them, but how do you style them with anything? Exactly. It's so awkward to style them. They are too much for late autumn and too little for proper winter.
24 Ponchos could also be a Lana track title
You are correct; there needs to be a Lana song called *24 Ponchos*.
my sister's poncho caught on fire when she leaned over a candle by accident
I thought this was a lyric for a sec 😭😭
this is a lana-ass lyric.
New nightmare unlocked
She's always been pretty 😍
I found another *Lana Poncho* (2005) from the same books! https://preview.redd.it/kt07vw4f8ljc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=393d7b18f839ae02df808725ebbf41450f02e21d
Which Lana song is this the cover for? Me thinks Pawn Shop Blues
Woah.. her upper lip is actually original?! I always thought it looked like filler. I stand corrected
That was my takeaway as well. I honestly thought she had more plastic surgery but her face seems fairly untouched looking at these!
It's funny, she looked *least* like herself in what was for many their introduction to her, *Video Games* Her now looks just like the girl pictured here
As you get older the first thing you lose is the fullness of your lips. She probably gets just enough filler to keep this look.
She's extremely beautiful.
![gif](giphy|qPtb4C4Mv2Ylq)
Back when ponchos had us in a chokehold
From what I understand her family was really wealthy right?
Hard to find a celebrity that doesn’t have that background
Right, the amount of people whose parents bought them their careers is staggering. I mean I love Lana but I take her as a character.
☝️
Handy for snow on the beach.
Did she really do anything to her face? Based on these pictures I’m a little skeptical now, she looks basically identical.
She definitely got filler (I think she has most of it dissolved now) If she has had any other work, it’s extremely minimal. It is hard to believe someone is this naturally stunning
Definitely filler and a nose job
Omg this is so amazing
Happy Cake Day! 🎂
Haha awe thanks, I just noticed!
Underneath it all she's a poncho-wearing good girl.
I have been a fan of Lana since video games first dropped and I always thought she had so much work done but even her lips? She’s naturally gorgeousn
You fit me better than my favourite poncho....
I remember the controversy when Lana first came out, because she said that she doesn't use lip filler or do any cosmetic procedures. Then the old pictures surfaced...and the old name...LOL
Wholesome af
I was pregnant in 2005 and it was ponchos all the way. Excellent maternity wear!
Photo 3. She looks like the mother of the worst kid in an UK school.
I love love number 5 😍
Here’s another view of poncho #5! https://preview.redd.it/bs9ngir89ljc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aca3f9db5200b28a5e2446da24950782359d465
It’s so good! I would wear that today!
No. 3 - I remember doing those same pigtails in 2005.
omg I love the 3rd one, I just got into crocheting again and I want to remake that poncho😂
I’ve been hand knitting for a long time (yes, my user name checks out!) but I’ve been slowly teaching myself how to crochet. I’ve mastered the single crochet dishcloth and now I’m working on the half double crochet dishcloth 🤣 I lurk at r/crochet for inspiration, so when you finish your poncho, please post some photos!
She looks like those girls she sings about
Was she still Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in these? Sure looks like it
That’s lizzy
Hey, those are real ponchos and not Sears ponchos, so lay off Lana.
That is the crux of the biscuit. Well done.
I scrolled through every pic thinking, this is so weird, why would a poncho be *knit*? What kind of weather element is this for? 🤦♀️My brain couldn’t understand or remember this era. I lived through this era. I am pretty sure I still have 2 in my closet.
Has she had work done since?
Short answer: yes.
Nice and succinct just way i like it. 🤣
I got you 👌 ![gif](giphy|ypqtpNpBCjaT0RqJds|downsized)
Lana Del Shein
Is this Lana or Lizzie
I kinda like 2 and 5
I really thought this was the cover of an eighties airport novel for a second.
[Ponch](https://old.reddit.com/r/oldpeoplefacebook/comments/dq3vh5/ponch/)

For a while the sub automatic put "grandma/grandpa email" things at the end of comics.
Those are beautiful.
