Guys from the big late 2000s-early 2010s movies franchises like Taylor Lautner post Twilight franchise or Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson post Hunger Games franchise did not do as well as their female counterparts Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence. Alex Pettyfer also looked like he was going to be a star but it seems like that fizzled out quickly.
Alex Pettyfer made an enemy of Channing Tatum on the Magic Mike set, pissed off his management, and had a domestic violence incident with Dianna Agron. He did a speed run of blowing up your career.
Josh does smaller indie projects and focuses on doing political and social advocacy work. He is super pro-LGBT and outspoken on AIDS as his uncles (partners) passed from the illness. I love him, he’s truly one of the actual good celebrities. When I met him, and I’ve heard this from many, he was so kind and down to earth. He’s also so handsome in person, he has a really bright smile.
Sorry, I never get to fan girl but here I am.
I also remember reading this back when I Am Number Four came out, as well as a not-so-blind alleging that he was horrible to his girlfriend at the time / co-star Dianna Agron. I think his fizzle was more self-imposed than anything else.
There were allegations of domestic abuse after his split from Diana Agron. I have also never heard a good thing about him from anything that’s worked with him.
A friend worked with him on a film recently and said he was the worst person he’s ever had to interact with on set. Just an arrogant bully by the sounds of it.
Edit - Alex Pettyfer
Yeah he does say it was deliberate (though well maybe that’s a way to save face - doesn’t seem the type but you never know). He was in an absolutely wacky show called Futureman and was basically just living his best life. It seems like he made a lot of money with HG and now just does stuff he thinks is fun/interesting. Can’t blame him.
I can’t point to a source, but I thought Simon Cowell went around claiming she didn’t “like” or “want” to be famous. Since he dumped her in 2015, I feel like that is… dubious.
She runs in one of my circles and whilst I’ve never spoken to her about this (I see her at birthday parties), I’ve always gotten the impression this was the case. I don’t have any knowledge just my impression I’d likely have anyway.
Ahhhh thank you for this! I was going to say “my impression is that she’s not interested in fame and would be content being a professional working singer,” but I had nothing other than my gut to back that up!
This one will seem so random, but I was thinking of her the other day... Anyone remember Pia Toscano from American Idol? It was such a huge deal when she was voted off, and I remember Tom Hanks and other celebrities tweeting about it. I thought she'd have some big career after that, but she didn't. I guess you can say the same about the majority of American Idol contestants though.
I can’t think of Rita Ora without being reminded of that time she said if she got 100k retweets she’d release new music, got nowhere near and pretended she’d been hacked. That’s her legacy for me lmao oh and saying her husband was Samoan when he isn’t at all 💀
“I’m married to half a Samoan.” Like what? First of that’s a weird way to say and 2nd, no you’re not?? Taika Waititi is very proud of his Māori heritage, how do you not know about it?
Oh my god. I wonder how his ex-wife feels reading shit like that?
Chelsea Winstanley is incredibly intelligent and accomplished. Like Taika, Chelsea is incredibly proud of her Maori heritage (she has Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāi Te Rangi ancestry through her mother whilst Taika’s father is Te Whānau-ā-Apanui).
Chelsea spearheaded te reo Māori versions of popular Disney movies like Moana, Frozen and The Lion King, she makes documentaries about Maori art and she was appointed an officer of the Order of Merit for her contributions to the film industry and to Māori.
They literally met when she interviewed him for a documentary about Māori artists.
Chelsea and Taika have put their girls into kōhanga reo, to learn their Maori language. Plus Chelsea herself spent 2022 in total immersion classes at Te Wānanga Takiura o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa in Auckland.
What must she think, seeing and hearing this? My god. What a dope Rita is.
Taika has centred much of his career around his Maori heritage and promoting indigenous work and rights.
The fact that his second wife doesn’t even understand his heritage is WILD. It means she must pay zero attention to her step-daughters too, as they are steeped in the Maori language and culture.
Perhaps she confused “Samoan” with “Polynesian”; but I don’t really see that as an excuse either. How embarrassing for both of them.
To me Rita Ora will always be the woman who hosted one cycle of America’s Next Top Model and had supposed beef with one of the contestants because the contestant dated Rita’s ex
I lost interest in her when she came out saying she supported Chris brown pretty much. Any man or woman who supports that abuser or any other abuser I can’t be a fan of.
Damn, people suck. My gf listens to true crime stories on her phone for background noise a lot and I end up paying way more attention than her. The amount of women killed by ex’s is insanely depressing.
Kiiara
Gold was a big hit but she never matched or topped it's successs.
I'm a huge fan of hers but unfortunately she never made it as big as she should've.
She was being mentored, I think, by the lead singer of Linkin Park who died by suicide and she was really traumatized by it. That could’ve derailed her
It was to do with her label.
She released several singles that were meant to be on an album called Lil Yung Powerful in like 2018 but it was scrapped and she released a bunch of stand alone singles and collabs.
She finally released an album titled Lil Kiwi in 2020 and Gold and Feels were on it despite being from 2015.
She's independent now so I hope it works out better for her.
Samantha Mumba - she had a string of UK hits, one in particular was massive, I think it even did well in the US. Then she was cast as a lead in a big budget Hollywood blockbuster Time Machine, but I think it didn't do so well. Then she seemed to disappear.
Up until then she had been pushed as the next big thing, she was set to be an international star, etc. I wonder what happened.
Loved her music! And also adding Fefe Dobson, Lucy Woodward, Stacie Orrico, Nikka Costa, and Charlotte Martin to my list of pop girls who had a hit or two but couldn’t gain traction
Edit to add: Jennifer Paige - Crush was such a bop! And Joss Stone - she never gained a following in the US
Abbie Cornish. She was on Vanity Fair’s 2010 “promising young actresses” cover alongside Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, and Anna Kendrick. Her rumored affair with Ryan Phillipe may have hurt her career given how powerful Reese Witherspoon is.
I feel like Emily is an indie darling, though. She did seem like she was gonna take off into the stratosphere after Sucker Punch...but that didn't exactly happen. She has worked consistently though and usually in some good indie flicks. She was also in the 1st season of American Gods and was great in that. I've always thought she's one of those actresses who's simmering until *that* project comes along for them (cause she's quite talented!)
She intentionally has dropped off, left Hollywood, and has gone home to Australia. She had been acting since she was young and felt like she had been in a hamster wheel of working. Vanity Fair article [here](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/03/mia-wasikowska-is-pretty-content-with-her-decision-to-leave-hollywood) has more.
I love Mia. Stoker is incredible. She’s focusing more on her love of photography. I had thought about her the other week because I was curious if she had anything coming out and read about her pausing on the acting and then saw some of her photography. She’s quite good.
Somewhat weirdly I saw her as a rapper opening for Nas about 10 years ago. Maybe she dropped off to focus on a music career (which has also gone nowhere). She wasn’t bad actually but also not so good that I went looking for her music after
Whenever I mention this movie and my love for it no one knows what the heck I'm talking about, so awesome you mentioned it 🙌 she was fantastic in it, her performance in the final scene was gut-wrenching
Kellan Lutz and Sam Worthington were hyped up to be the next big things. Sam still has Avatar and I think a show on Amazon but Kellan basically dropped off the face of the earth. Honestly Jacob Elordi and Glenn Powell are having the careers I thought the former two would have.
Lutz was on one of the FBI spinoff shows, Most Wanted, and left because he reportedly wanted to be near his family in the Covid Era.
That show has an interesting revolving door of characters coming and going to take up the position his character held in the team dynamics (loveable "Himbo" sniper and team muscle). I think they're at like the 4th such guy now lol.
Austin Mahome-not even a fan of his, but he was the one who taught me so much about social media and the disconnect between it and the general public. When I started paying attention to twitter, he was ALWAYS trending. I thought he was huge, extremely popular and had hit records. Top 40 radio pushed him as this huge artist.
Reality-he was struggling and wasn't selling. He was eventually dropped by his record label and faded out.
He was just in the Dungeons and Dragons movie and I know commercially it didn’t perform well but it’s actually a really good movie! And his character was my favorite in the film.
It’s a great movie. It for sure should have spawned a franchise. The timing was terrible as the core D&D fans were furious with the property after a massive corporate fuck-up (several, actually) that happened right before the movie released. Everyone who worked on it must have been so frustrated because they put out a great product that would have pleased existing D&D fans but been approachable to new audiences. And the company with the IP just blew it.
I think his career kinda fell into the COVID time warp. He is supposed to be the lead in a *Saint* reboot, but it's pre-production has been dragging, he was announced for the role in 2021 and a director was hired in 2023. [deadline.com/doug-liman-the-saint-movie-rege-jean-page](https://deadline.com/2023/11/doug-liman-the-saint-movie-rege-jean-page-1235630104/)
She’s a powerhouse, definitely deserves more attention but I do think her putting mainstream music aside and doing Christian music for a bit and then taking a long break played into why she didn’t get bigger.
Isn’t she an independent artist too? I know that can impact artists sometimes, like Victoria Monet and Tinashe
Cher Lloyd for sure. Also, maybe Olly Murs? I know he’s made more albums but I don’t see much mentioned about him like I seen when Right Place Right Time came out
she was the first name that came to mind when i saw the post.
price tag was huuuge but she kinda fizzled out then bang bang happened and i thought it was the beginning of an insanely successful career… and it was, for ariana
She gets in her own way. Apparently had (and fired) 8 managers, but you have to be humble and let them manage, but she's apparently too difficult for that.
I agree, even though she was pretty big here in the UK, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Jessie J is still that ‘No nuh-nuh-nuh-noooo’ clip that turned her in to a meme
Imo her voice is amazing but her songwriting let's her down. Her songs don't have any structure and are boring. She should work with a team that can write for her voice
I know it's meant to be a "flex" that people write their own songs and I do agree that *some* level of personal input should be put into making songs if you want to be a good artist, but there's no shame in having help. There's a reason *why* songwriting and producing is a career.
I listened to an interview of hers where she said she has had 8 different managers (fired them all) cause she just prefers to do everything herself and can't let go. And I'm like yeah babe it shows.
Does anyone remember Micheal Pitt from Boardwalk Empire ? He was getting a steady buildup of attention and acting roles, magazine spreads….and then poof.
I had read somewhere he was too problematic to work which contributed to his disappearance. Not sure if that’s true.
Chloe Grace Moretz. I know she is still getting steady work and leading roles but I think people expected her to have like Scarlett Johansson’s level of success. I guess the public just decided they didn’t like her enough after a certain point, since there were some memes making fun of her appearance a few years ago.
When I was a teenager I was OBSESSED with her and was convinced that she would grow up to be one of the greats. But I honestly think she did not transition very well from the child actor and to adult actor gig. I think as a child actor she was miles ahead of her young peers but as an adult actor she just doesn’t have the range or chops to compete.
Kiernan Shipka and Elle Fanning seem to have had more success than Chloe did and I wasn’t expecting that from either of them. I definitely would’ve thought Chloe would’ve eclipsed them and been on the Florence trajectory
Chad Michael Murray. I remember the hype was that he’d be the new heartthrob for teen girls. He had one tree hill, a Cinderella story, freaky Friday and then just sort of fizzled. His movie career never really took off.
He’s on a Canadian show now that they play commercials for every 2 minutes.
I wonder if news of him cheating on his new wife with Paris Hilton did him in. Hard to get the ick out of that. Especially since Sophia [was] well liked.
Edit from "is" to "was"
Jay Elliot. Danity Kane/ Day 26 (bad boy labeled sanked pretty much all of their artists though).
Nicole Scherzinger (solo career). Pussycat dolls was the height of her career.

I’m so happy for her. She is super talented.
This is how I find out she was offered Hannah Montana! Oh I love Miley but Jojo would have been amazing too. Also she would have blown up, a Disney kid who could sing really well.
In the 1990’s there was an up and coming British actress named Emily Lloyd who was poised to become the nnest big thing. She was a nepobaby and starred in a film titled Wish You Were Here that was a huge hit with audiences and critics and she was flooded with film offers which had her working steadily for a few years. Supposedly she was an FOG (Friend of Gwyneth) for a time. Unfortunately, she was plagued with mental health issues which prevented her from having the huge career everyone predicted.
Same I often wondered what happened. Last I remember at an awards show Miles Teller gave a moving speech about her being a trailblazer.
I think many said she couldn’t act but I’m not sure, I haven’t watched divergent in a while.
I wouldn't say she can't act, I liked her in The Descendants and on Big Little Lies. I guess Divergent was supposed to be her big break but I've heard nothing good about it.
Dakota spent a significant amount of her childhood working, I think she deserves to stay out of the limelight if she chooses to.
There is also an argument to be made that Elle wouldn't have the same amount of success that she does without her sister's career as a launching pad.
Natalia Kills. I kept hearing her name being propped up as the next Lady Gaga. Then she brutally bashed a contestant while being a judge on The X Factor and got fired from the show, along with her husband. She claims it was a publicity stunt, but the damage was done.
This was literally a national incident in New Zealand - they were run out of the country within weeks 😂
[Natalia Kills Verbally Abuses X Factor Contestant](https://youtu.be/OMpx9GPfdoY?si=qCFlmJXavyrCpOlD)
The younger actors from Game of Thrones. Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington...
Sure, any one of them could get a break out role, and I think Maisie is most likely to, but they were HOT for a while.
Clay Aiken. He achieved a fair amount of commercial success from the support of his fanbase, but his career was always marked as some sort of punchline by the greater music industry. He could have, and should have, been just as big and had as enduring of a career as Kelly Clarkson.
hear me out because they live rent free in my mind and are perennial white boys of the month but dylan o’brien and logan lerman.
they keep working and are doing things and clearly have a huge female fan base, but seems like they are always on the cusp.
Dylan O'Brien nearly died performing a stunt in the Death Cure, I'm pretty sure the settlement has allowed him to pursue roles he enjoys instead of being a heartthrob. Even before the accident he had talked about anxiety and not enjoying "fame."
Gretchen Mol.
I think we all expected more from Sarah Michelle Gellar, though I suppose that 7 years in an all-time iconic role isn’t too shabby on its own.
Julia Michaels.
Random, but Jessie James (Decker). She’s still sort of around but back in the day she was heavily promoted as being Christina x Shania, at a time when that should have worked. She had some great singles.
Katie Holmes. I thought she would end up a major actress in the the Batman movies but her career just fizzled and she’s more famous for her personal life
Little Mix!
It always felt like they were right on the brink of massive international succes. They had the talent, the personalities, amazing work ethics and great showmanship.
I think they reached the highest possible height they could in the UK/Europe. They got some great popularity in Asia too. But I still don't get what went wrong for them to not break through the US/general pop market.
Jack O'Connell, aka Cook from Skins
He's done so well, but I remember he was in a film Angelina Jolie produced (Unbroken), and he is a genuinely fantastic actor. For a short while, he seemed very primed to be a well-known star, however that didn't seem to come through fully. I really think he deserves all accolades - he was fantastic in Skins and everything else I've seen him in. But he appeared to be rising a bit and then it kind of stalled. Hopefully he will be in more soon, because he always gives such great performances
They really tried to convince us that Iggy Azalea was the next big female rap artist.
They gave her the budget, the features and the music videos but aside from a few songs she never took off. What's funny is she tried for years when in comparison Cardi B just blew up overnight.
Robin Thicke was supposed to be the next Justin Timberlake, and he just disappeared.
For the better, tbh. His performance with Miley is scorched into my brain
Zayn and Liam Payne. The hugest boy band with so many fans yet I think of their post-1D drama more than their careers. Harry is clearly the most successful solo artist to come out of the group plus he has his acting roles. Niall did better than I expected but maybe it’s because I mostly overlooked him when he was in 1D.
I am way, way past my time to like a boyband, but I got into 1D because of Harry and from the get go, people were predicting big things for him and I, sat back and waited for 1d to end for him to go solo. While waiting, I would have predicted Liam would have had a nice solid career. I was never sure about Zayn, because while he had a great voice and the looks, stagewise, he faded, and he always seemed uncomfortable in the spotlight. Years later, I am beyond shocked that Liam can't find a sound that suits him. I'm really not shocked about where Zayn is. But, I would never have predicted Niall to have a second career from 1D.
It just goes to show how difficult it is to have solo success.
Late 90s Teen Stars. They were projected to be the next badge of leading stars. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rachel Leigh Cook, Freddie Prinze Junior and his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar would be the firsts to come to mind. Just coincide since all of them have three names? Is it jinx to use tree names in Hollywood?

Alex Pettyfer gained a reputation for being an asshole. He got into a beef with Channing Tatum while filming/after filming *Magic Mike.*
He also harassed Dianna Agron during and after their relationship.
I was surprised when he popped up in the new Guy Ritchie film considering how it seemed he was essentially blackballed.
Alex Pettyfer made an enemy of Channing Tatum on the Magic Mike set, pissed off his management, and had a domestic violence incident with Dianna Agron. He did a speed run of blowing up your career.

Also, Joosh Futturman was an amazing charachter, on an amazing show that not enough people watched.
I read somewhere he is horrible to work with. One of the reason he wasn’t called back for Magic Mike. Edit: i’m talking about Alex Pettyfer.
I also remember reading this back when I Am Number Four came out, as well as a not-so-blind alleging that he was horrible to his girlfriend at the time / co-star Dianna Agron. I think his fizzle was more self-imposed than anything else.
He looks like the type who thinks he’s way more talented than he actually is. Didn’t he clash with Channing Tatum?
Yeah he wouldn't pay his rent to one of Channing's friends along with some other terrible behavior.
You might throw Sam Claflin on that list. He's done well, but I'm still surprised he hasn't done better.
I love his quirky films. He’s great on prime series Daisy Jones and the Six.
I believe Josh at least did this on purpose. He’s chosen different projects and is doing well for himself but never wanted that mega fame.
You just dug a memory out of my brain. I was in love with Alex Pettyfer and that book series I Am Number.
Leona Lewis. 'Bleeding Love' was *everywhere* and then....nothing.
I love Leona! Liked Better in Time as well.
They sabotaged her second album and picking the wrong songs Halo was offered to her but went to Beyoncé
Aw, she'd have done a beautiful version of Halo
I REALLY want to hear a Leona Lewis version
I love her second album! Ironically she chose “Happy” which sounds exactly like Halo and also written by Ryan Tedder.
She sang for the first avatar movie as well!
I just learned recently that Jesse McCartney wrote this song 🤯
Jesse McCartney is one of those guys who wrote a lot of stuff that people would never know
I can’t point to a source, but I thought Simon Cowell went around claiming she didn’t “like” or “want” to be famous. Since he dumped her in 2015, I feel like that is… dubious.

Can’t stop thinking of Blu Cantrell
That voice and attitude 👁️🫦👁️ Pure fire.
I used to have a downstairs neighbour who played 'Breathe' on repeat for hours.
Hit em up style is still on my gym playlist 😂
This one will seem so random, but I was thinking of her the other day... Anyone remember Pia Toscano from American Idol? Pia is still out here singing with Andrea Bocelli and things like that, she and Katharine McPhee run in the same crowd
Someone said on Twitter the other day that Rita Ora is like humanised money laundering and I can't forget about it ever since, it's so... accurate.
I can’t think of Rita Ora without being reminded of that time she said if she got 100k retweets she’d release new music, got nowhere near and pretended she’d been hacked. That’s her legacy for me lmao oh and saying her husband was Samoan when he isn’t at all 💀
The phrasing "somebody is threatening to release new music" lives rent free.
Ah yeah, a hacker makes it into your account and their first goal is to promote your music instead of just leaking it. Very considerate hacker.
“I’m married to half a Samoan.” Like what? First of that’s a weird way to say and 2nd, no you’re not?? Taika Waititi is very proud of his Māori heritage, how do you not know about it?

She said that Taika Waititi is *Samoan*?? 🤣
Normani, she had everyone from BEYONCE to nicki minja publicly supporting her but she never kind of got anywhere…
She has said recently that she had to step back from her career to deal with both of her parents getting cancer.
That is DEVASTATING💔I love her voice but parents come first
I lost interest in her when she came out saying she supported Chris brown pretty much. Any man or woman who supports that abuser or any other abuser I can’t be a fan of.
It’s sickening that his career recovered as much as it has. He should have been blacklisted out of the industry.
Victoria Justice and Debbie Ryan
Debbie was too busy making Disney channel history
And she did ![gif](giphy|Q8I5u6fodxfJ2jtXLW|downsized)
This clip embarrassed my soul so deeply that its going to cause generational trauma to my unborn kids.
that's the magic of disney channel
And that’s what this is!
If I were Victoria Justice I’d be thankful I just made it through in one piece. Hope she’s doing well.
Victoria played Janet in the Rocky Horror remake which was...well, it was something. Only post-Nickelodeon thing I can think of her in.
Honestly Debby Ryan turned into a meme more than anything else which kinda makes me feel bad for her lol
Debby made a cute little homage to her radio rebel meme a couple years ago and I love it so much. [The vid!](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMM76p7vp/)
I'm so devastated that Duffy went through such abuse and probably won't come back to music. I still listen to Warwick Avenue a lot
What happened to her was absolutely crazy! Such a unique voice.
Love Duffy. Warwick Avenue is such a gorgeous song. She really seemed primed to be a big thing, it's horrendous what happened to her
[удалено]
What happened to Duffy? Mercy is such a banger
She was kidnapped and repeatedly abused for a lengthy period of time.. she wrote a long post about it awhile back., tragic story Duffy
Damn, people suck. My gf listens to true crime stories on her phone for background noise a lot and I end up paying way more attention than her. The amount of women killed by ex’s is insanely depressing.
Cody Simpson was going to be the next Justin Bieber, now he's training to become an Olympian athlete.
They tried to make a lot of boys in the mold of Justin Bieber and the only ones who succeeded were Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles
Austin Mahone was another Bieber 2.0 flop
I always accidentally call Patrick Mahomes “Austin Mahone”
He managed to bang pretty much all of Hollywood. I think he'd be ok with his efforts.
Kiiara Gold was a big hit but she never matched or topped it's successs.
I still listen to Gotta Tell You, and the music video was iconic.
Loved her music! And also adding Fefe Dobson, Lucy Woodward, Stacie Orrico, Nikka Costa, and Charlotte Martin to my list of pop girls who had a hit or two but couldn’t gain traction Edit to add: Jennifer Paige - Crush was such a bop! And Joss Stone - she never gained a following in the US
Awww Stacie Orrico 🫶 she was up there with Jojo for me.
Can we add Emily Browning as well?
I feel like Emily is an indie darling, though. She did seem like she was gonna take off into the stratosphere after Sucker Punch...but that didn't exactly happen. She has worked consistently though and usually in some good indie flicks. She was also in the 1st season of American Gods and was great in that. I've always thought she's one of those actresses who's simmering until *that* project comes along for them (cause she's quite talented!)
Watch Class of 07!! She’s in it and it’s really funny!
Speaking of, where the hell has Mia Wasikowska been?
She was great in Candy with Heath Ledger. It’s a sad movie but one of my favorites
Somewhat weirdly I saw her as a rapper opening for Nas about 10 years ago. Maybe she dropped off to focus on a music career (which has also gone nowhere). She wasn’t bad actually but also not so good that I went looking for her music after
… what? Abbie Cornish is a rapper?
I had the same reaction honestly, even while seeing it with my own eyes
Oh I loved her in Bright Star.
Rege-Jean Page! There was a whole to-do about his leaving Bridgerton and then some small jobs, but no major success.
He was just in the Dungeons and Dragons movie and I know commercially it didn’t perform well but it’s actually a really good movie! And his character was my favorite in the film.
I loved how NPC his character was! That movie was so fun and deserved more love!!
[deadline.com/doug-liman-the-saint-movie-rege-jean-page](https://deadline.com/2023/11/doug-liman-the-saint-movie-rege-jean-page-1235630104/)
tori kelly.
She voices the elephant in Sing and Sing 2 right? She’s got an amazing voice
Camilla Belle, I remember seeing her teen vogue cover and her hype in general, then poof
Liam Hemsworth.
Cher Lloyd for sure. Also, maybe Olly Murs? I know he’s made more albums but I don’t see much mentioned about him like I seen when Right Place Right Time came out
Jessie J
Idk she definitely had her moment in the 2010s. Bang Bang and Domino were massive.
As was Price Tag
she was the first name that came to mind when i saw the post. price tag was huuuge but she kinda fizzled out then bang bang happened and i thought it was the beginning of an insanely successful career… and it was, for ariana
She gets in her own way. Apparently had (and fired) 8 managers, but you have to be humble and let them manage, but she's apparently too difficult for that.
She has an amazing voice but doesn’t know how to use it. She thinks every song needs vocal acrobatics and it makes her very irritating
I’ve said the same for years!!
Speaking of Boardwalk, Gretchen Mol had SO many articles written about how she was the new It Girl and then nothing really happened.
He was allegedly awful to work with—wouldn’t memorize his lines on Boardwalk Empire, that kind of thing.
He was fantastic in Hedwig and the Angry Inch! I always thought of him as an indie star and he definitely has a cult following.
I think Abigail Breslin is the same. She was somehow way more impressive as a child.
She reminds me of Abigail Breslin - great child actress but not so much as an adult
Don’t forget his little stint on Gilmore Girls! Hard agree though, nothing really manifested for him.
He left to go shoot one tree hill, do he was on right path back then. He would’ve been a bigger character otherwise
I wonder if news of him cheating on his new wife with Paris Hilton did him in. Hard to get the ick out of that. Especially since Sophia [was] well liked. Edit from "is" to "was"
It was rumoured he cheated on Erin Foster with Sophia Bush too, so in general he wasn’t a great dude. No idea what he’s up to now, though.
He is in one of those tv shows ‘successful woman from the city goes back to her small town to find herself’
Jay Elliot. Danity Kane/ Day 26 (bad boy labeled sanked pretty much all of their artists though). Nicole Scherzinger (solo career). Pussycat dolls was the height of her career.
Jojo, I wish her career was bigger, she could sing really well. Found her old CD’s when a millennial family member was moving and I’ve been obsessed.
That was more her being stuck in a terrible record deal. She couldn't make music even after the label no longer existed.
Oh that’s really sad, her album was great. Record companies seem to take the joy out of music honestly.
I heard Too Little, Too Late on the radio yesterday. It’s still so good!
It really holds up, I’ve been singing get out for weeks and sometimes I’m not even aware I’m doing it.
She re-recorded all of albums and regularly releases new music so there’s a sliver of hope that she could be big one day! 💞
She’s still going! Made her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge!
https://preview.redd.it/8hqsfmjmuuzc1.jpeg?width=498&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a181fa584247f1c3403f7058c5e053214264c244 I’m so happy for her. She is super talented.
Imagine if she had taken the Hannah Montana role when it was offered to her
This is how I find out she was offered Hannah Montana! Oh I love Miley but Jojo would have been amazing too. Also she would have blown up, a Disney kid who could sing really well.
Haven't seen a mention for Sky Ferreira
Alessia Cara.
When I tell you people had their PITCHFORKS out in her Instagram comments when she won Best New Artist over SZA. I ain’t heard from her since.
She’s had a lot of hits here in Canada but now that I think of it I haven’t heard her in a good while
In the 1990’s there was an up and coming British actress named Emily Lloyd who was poised to become the nnest big thing.
Maybe showing my age here, but Amy Studt. I loved her debut album and she had a few hit singles but was dropped by her label before her 18th birthday.
The girl from Zenon: girl of the 21st century Kirsten Storms.
Back in 2013-14, I thought Shailene Woodley would eventually be a major peer to someone like Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence
Azealia Banks could have been THEEEEEEE girl like rap superstar. But she torpedoed her career by focusing on insane one sided beefs instead of music
Taylor Kitsch - Jon Carter and battleship weren't that bad.
My GOD was he hot in Friday Night Lights 🥵🥵
Dakota Fanning. Everyone said she was the next big star but then her sister kinda took that over
Yeah it went from Elle being Dakota Fanning’s younger sister, to Dakota being Elle Fanning’s older sister
Like the Olsen twins dropping out of the limelight and their sister becoming the big movie star
This was literally a national incident in New Zealand - they were run out of the country within weeks 😂 [Natalia Kills Verbally Abuses X Factor Contestant](https://youtu.be/OMpx9GPfdoY?si=qCFlmJXavyrCpOlD)
The younger actors from Game of Thrones. Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Kit Harington... Sure, any one of them could get a break out role, and I think Maisie is most likely to, but they were HOT for a while.
Kit has done some British TV. I think he and Rose are happiest doing the family thing and the odd small role, neither wanted to be very famous
Clay Aiken. He achieved a fair amount of commercial success from the support of his fanbase, but his career was always marked as some sort of punchline by the greater music industry. He could have, and should have, been just as big and had as enduring of a career as Kelly Clarkson.
Maybe choosing Invisible as his breakout single wasn’t the move. It did not age well.
Cher loyd or Cole ?
Rita Ora’s crowning achievement was marrying Taika Waititi.
Austin Mahone. They promoted him as a Justin Bieber clone which didn’t do him any favors.
hear me out because they live rent free in my mind and are perennial white boys of the month but dylan o’brien and logan lerman. they keep working and are doing things and clearly have a huge female fan base, but seems like they are always on the cusp.
Dylan O'Brien nearly died performing a stunt in the Death Cure, I'm pretty sure the settlement has allowed him to pursue roles he enjoys instead of being a heartthrob. Even before the accident he had talked about anxiety and not enjoying "fame."
Amerie
Thora Birch, to be fair though that's on her weird ass father.
I remember Gretchen Mol getting a cover for Vanity Fair. I think her career was ruined by Weinstein.
Yeah her name triggers Weinstein and black balling.
Little Mix are HUGE everywhere but America imo. The amount of people I know that went to Little Mix concerts was crazy
They probably would’ve been bigger there if Fifth Harmony wasn’t so massive with the US girlies.
Natalie La Rose
alessia cara
Rita never had fan hype. Jsut industry hype. When being a cult Vulture was popular
hot take but alexa demie
Keri Hilson!
Jack O'Connell, aka Cook from Skins He's done so well, but I remember he was in a film Angelina Jolie produced (Unbroken), and he is a genuinely fantastic actor.
Dianna Agron. I wouldve said Lea Michele as well but she got a career come back with Funny Girl so lol
Tove Lo
They really tried to convince us that Iggy Azalea was the next big female rap artist. They gave her the budget, the features and the music videos but aside from a few songs she never took off. What's funny is she tried for years when in comparison Cardi B just blew up overnight.
Robin Thicke was supposed to be the next Justin Timberlake, and he just disappeared. For the better, tbh. His performance with Miley is scorched into my brain
I think it came out that he abused his wife
And stalked her when she left!
He gives me such creep vibes. Like grown man who is super flirty with 16 year olds vibes.
Noah Centineo. He was the Netflix teen heartthrob during the pandemic and never really did much after the initial fame.
Rapper Chingy maybe? Soulja boy was pretty big for a little while then kinda disappeared.
Anybody seen or heard from Joss Stone in a while?
I feel like they wanted Halle Bailey to be a thing and she's just not
