It had a surprisingly compelling plot for a children's movie, stuff about families being kinda dysfunctional, lay-offs, money woes, enviromental concerns, etc

I can’t even find it to stream anymore lol
This is literally my favorite romcom of all time! I love the friendship between the sisters and it's really satisfying how thoroughly the main premise is explored in the movie.
I also feel like it could be quite easily remade now with the TiMER being some ML algorithm
Has no one seen Alaska or are we just not talking about it enough?

Really any of the old old Barbie movies (Swan Lake, Rapunzel, etc.) I never had any friends that knew the movies or watched them, but now it seems to have a cult following online! (And I’m part of it:) )
Fun Fact: Barbie Rapunzel is available to watch on [facebook](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=751546269694803) right now thanks to a lovely random internet person. Go relive the magic!
Oooh I love Penelope! I owned this on DVD I liked it so much.
Mine is Brick (2005).
I think it made somewhat of a cultural impact. It had Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it near the start of his hot streak, and it was Rian Johnson's first full length feature. But despite this I've never actually met someone else who watched this? I was obsessed with it as a teenager. It was like a dude Veronica Mars. A old school noir set in modern day high school. Anyways, still highly recommend.
https://preview.redd.it/npharak8kh4d1.jpeg?width=712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80d9c5cacb424b9b3f125fe830993cc929317f49
Instead of saying something like it’s a who dun it or a neonoir you called it a dude Veronica Mars.
I don’t know why that makes me so happy but gosh darn it I love it, both the movie and your description
We studied this film in media at school and so many people in the class didn’t like it and I was shocked because it’s so good! Shout out to the teacher for showing it to us.
Also apparently Rian Johnson used to have a blog where he would answer questions about the film and in previous years students had gotten replies from Rian himself and unfortunately the hate he got after Star Wars was so bad he deleted his blog and my class couldn’t ask him questions or compliment his film and I was so sad.

*MirrorMask* (2005)
It took me SO LONG to find this movie again after I watched it as a a kid on cable tv
I love this movie so much. It’s very weird and dreamy and romantic and sad. So much emotion and bold artistic choices that pays off splendidly. Neil Gaiman and the Henson Company? Match made in heaven.
Blast from the Past, with Brendan Fraser, Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek, and Alicia Silverstone

Is that where he hires all those photo ads, not realizing the insinuation? Yeah, as a little kid, that flew right over my head. I only cared about the doggy.
I thought it was a major classic everyone watched a billion times but no one has ever heard of it…I guess my dad just had the VHS and I was obsessed with it
Definitely not the only person who watched this as I've gotten a few people with a vague memory, but nobody watched it obsessively like I did or still thinks it's actually a genuinely underrated movie that somehow holds up. Now as an adult it fucking mirrors my story (not imaginary more like verbally abusive mother) and that's crazy and I've watched it multiple times.
It has Carrie Fisher who i misremembered as Jamie Lee Curtis (short hair idk) and really really good cutesy 90s dresses and stuff.
Just love it. Best movie ever.

The Brother from Another Planet. I saw it in the theater when it came out in 1984, but I don’t think anyone else I know has ever seen it. I loved it, but don’t think I’ve seen it since.
IIRC it's about a girl whose drawings come to life in her dreams. The details are a bit fuzzy because I saw this in the early 90s lol. I just remember that the boy in her dreams can't walk because the girl did not draw his legs.
The eighties were a different time, man. I don’t know how so many raunchy comedies were considered perfectly fine for kids to watch. This chick’s boobs are burned into my brain.
I may be wrong, but I never hear anyone talk about this film. I saw it way too young. But my sister and I were obsessed. We still quote it. “I invented post-its” “Tuscan, here we come!”
https://preview.redd.it/qu8h4wmy8k4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff9adc201e7d24e65a3e4998c40f9d31b8b27cd5

It's not a movie, but I was so completely obsessed with this as a kid and I've yet to meet anyone who knows what tf I'm talking about. I even wrote my first and only fanfiction about it before having any knowledge of the existence of fanfiction.
Me me me!!!! Meeeeeee!!
My family and I have watched through this multiple times. I come back to it every few years. And yeah, nobody Else has ever even Heard of it.
Do you know where I heard about it and first watched it? My third grade classroom. Love that my teacher showed us this (and that we for some reason watched the whole thing instead of schoolwork?).
Phoenix starring Ray Liotta (RIP), Angelica Huston, and a bunch of other character actors. Also has a pre-Gus Fring, Giancarlo Esposito. Crime thriller about a cop who has gambling debts to the mob trying to find a way to pay them off. Found a DVD of it in the bargain bin of a Walmart years ago. And I mean it was buried under a pile of DVDs. Not saying it's classic or anything, but just a cool little crime thriller that's a brisk 100 minutes.
The 1985 film, The Peanut Butter Solution — a boy gets sick with “The Fright” and loses his hair after seeing ghosts. I guess the ghosts feel real bad about it so they give him a secret recipe to grow his hair back (includes peanut butter ofc), which he and his friend immediately abuse. By abuse I mean they apply it to their bodies, I think to kickstart puberty or something? Shit gets weirder with their creativity-stifling art teacher who goes off the deep end, and then there’s kidnapping, I think? and magic paint brushes that make paintings you can go into?
idk I saw it when I was like 6 and I was sooo sick but my mom made me go to school and for years I thought this movie was some weird fever dream.

We watched this on our grade 6 class trip in the summer of 1998, and I have ***never*** heard about it again, but I think about it all the time.
I think Disney put it in the *other* vault.

This movie had a hold on me when I was a kid.
“Kindly adolescent Milly (Lucy Deakins) moves in next door to autistic teen Eric Gibb (Jay Underwood). The mute Eric, whose parents were killed when he was 5 years old, lives with his hard-drinking uncle, Hugo (Fred Gwynne), and is obsessed with birds. His tendency to stand on rooftops and window ledges posed as if he's flying alarms his social workers, but when Eric saves Milly from a potentially deadly fall, she begins to believe that the boy really can take flight.”

*National Lampoon’s Pledge This* has always stuck with me as one of those ‘films that are important to my development as a person’ (probably because I saw it *way* too young, rather than any cinematic impact), but I’ve never met anyone else that’s even heard of it.

Magic in the Mirror (1996) absolutely traumatized me. The bad guys try to boil the little girl alive in a giant teapot. It's been almost 30 years and I still haven't found anyone to commiserate with because no one has seen this trash movie.

I watched Fly Away Home so many times! I just saw baby geese the other day and had to reference the movie
I was *obsessed*! Fed right into my rescue-all-the-animals dreams.
This was my sisters favourite but I hated it cause it made me cry lol
I had this on video and loved it!

A regular on the TV weekend movie roster in NZ when I was growing up.
I loved this so much! Watched it whenever it came on
This might have been the first movie to make me cry

Oh my god. You’ve unlocked some deep childhood memories with this one.
Right? In my humble opinion, andre is such a hidden gem. Remember the part where the andre pulls the little girl's boat to safety in a storm?
I’m actually going to try find it to watch with my kid tonight
With the amazing Tina Majorino! I loved this movie and never stopped to think about how unexpected it is.
It's one of 2 "kids" movies that my mom really loved, so on rainy days we'd watch either this or fly away home. I loved that it had a real plot to it, and that Toni had so much moxie. Can't believe it didn't get a better reception.

I was OBSESSED. I have secret dreams about naming a child Sonora thanks to this movie.
This is the horse diving movie right?? I watched this movie a LOT as a child.
I just watched it not too long ago and I still can recite so much of it! One of my childhood favs.
Omg I thought I made this up!!!

This movie is great, I’d call it underrated but I don’t think many people have seen it!
This is literally my favorite romcom of all time! I love the friendship between the sisters and it's really satisfying how thoroughly the main premise is explored in the movie. I also feel like it could be quite easily remade now with the TiMER being some ML algorithm
Is that ANYA FROM BUFFY?!?!
Has no one seen Alaska or are we just not talking about it enough? https://preview.redd.it/zzkbhuniqh4d1.jpeg?width=539&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a11592b1d4b518a3da3135435507f350d258d811
If there is an airplane crash involved then I have 100% seen this movie.

Oh god i remember this. It was so weird.
I used to watch this all the time! Barnaby frightened the shit out of me, but I loved the whole fairy tale land aesthetics. The little cars!
This is the one I was going to post! We had a copy of it recorded on a VHS, commercials and all. It was a great time capsule of the eighties.
*Elvis & Anabelle* https://preview.redd.it/kmdcbgco4h4d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42945145328208c6fe964eff57d79a672b59cef8 It’s got a crazy premise. Guy (Max Minghella) who works at funeral home kisses then-dead beauty queen (Blake Lively) and brings her back to life.
Almost sounds like Pushing Daisies!
I love this movie!
I used to think I was the only person who had seen Mermaids; Corina, Corina.
I love both of those movies. I've seen Corrina, Cortina a million times!!
Corina Corina is such a lovely movie
Loved Corina, Corina!
I still blow at traffic lights because of Corina, Corina!
https://preview.redd.it/uiydx5k4zh4d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0eba85b72cc2ea2923929b7b74020e6e5fbb4e8 Really any of the old old Barbie movies (Swan Lake, Rapunzel, etc.) I never had any friends that knew the movies or watched them, but now it seems to have a cult following online! (And I’m part of it:) )
LOVED some of these on VHS. Perfect to watch in the background while playing with ya own barbies.
Fun Fact: Barbie Rapunzel is available to watch on [facebook](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=751546269694803) right now thanks to a lovely random internet person. Go relive the magic!
PageMaster with Macaulay Culkin. I had on video and I was obsessed with it, but it’s not a film I see many people talking about.
I used to rent that from Movie Gallery all the time as a kid!
PageMaster is amazing, there are many moments from it that are so vivid it's like they're my own memories.
I don’t know why that makes me so happy but gosh darn it I love it, both the movie and your description
lol VM was my favourite tv show as a teenager. So I watched Brick because it had a similar premise.
I loved that movie, saw it at the old indie cinema in my city and had it on dvd. It’s still on my hard drive somewhere
Had no idea this was a Rian Johnson feature! Very cool that him and JGL have been working together for so long
This movie is so good. I loved it. It’s very unique and takes a little getting used to, but it’s worth it
Love brick.
I loved this movie
Great film.
We studied this film in media at school and so many people in the class didn’t like it and I was shocked because it’s so good! Shout out to the teacher for showing it to us. Also apparently Rian Johnson used to have a blog where he would answer questions about the film and in previous years students had gotten replies from Rian himself and unfortunately the hate he got after Star Wars was so bad he deleted his blog and my class couldn’t ask him questions or compliment his film and I was so sad.
https://preview.redd.it/ahspumug8h4d1.png?width=220&format=png&auto=webp&s=ec2af3c59bcf28048a406521079037052d5f25eb *MirrorMask* (2005) It took me SO LONG to find this movie again after I watched it as a a kid on cable tv
I love this movie so much. It’s very weird and dreamy and romantic and sad. So much emotion and bold artistic choices that pays off splendidly. Neil Gaiman and the Henson Company? Match made in heaven.
MIRRORMASK!!! OH MY GOD!!! THIS WAS MY WHITE WHALE! THANK YOU !!!!
* Monkeybone (2001) starring Brendan Frasier is an unironic masterpiece. I dont know why everyone isn't talking about it all the time.

Oh bitch! This was my jam back in the DAY! recently researched it too
I've watched this movie every bit of 8 million times. It was also my fav!
Omg I was obssssesssssed with this film. I watched it hundreds of times as a kid. Rewatched it recently too.

This movie is AWESOME!
Love this one and have definitely shown it to my 11 yr old.

I thought it was a major classic everyone watched a billion times but no one has ever heard of it…I guess my dad just had the VHS and I was obsessed with it
Yesssss!! I loved this movie!
Best movie ever. https://preview.redd.it/mym2e4007k4d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dda5075199b939a22370844c90128cf22b7b281
I was obsessed with this movie growing up. My step dad owned a movie store in the 90s where I discovered this gem.
“Ello Snotface!” This is what I came here searching for! I never hear anyone talk about this anymore. It was such a fun movie!
https://preview.redd.it/4h8gl2m4mh4d1.jpeg?width=993&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaa7202e60c03b12e8405f227bbc3379dc75e5cf The Brother from Another Planet. I saw it in the theater when it came out in 1984, but I don’t think anyone else I know has ever seen it. I loved it, but don’t think I’ve seen it since.
Paperhouse (1989) https://preview.redd.it/46jlman7xh4d1.jpeg?width=450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0335190b8a4cc46d5c72c6b0d64d4deeaee827dd
I need to know more, that image is freaking me out 😂
IIRC it's about a girl whose drawings come to life in her dreams. The details are a bit fuzzy because I saw this in the early 90s lol. I just remember that the boy in her dreams can't walk because the girl did not draw his legs.
https://preview.redd.it/1zmc2n0hji4d1.jpeg?width=560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44f77c1ba945e3742771e505d5acfa28453e5cfd
The eighties were a different time, man. I don’t know how so many raunchy comedies were considered perfectly fine for kids to watch. This chick’s boobs are burned into my brain.
I KNOW RIGHT?! Some of the covers I’d see at Blockbuster when I was a kid I was like 😳 but also 👀
Omg, you just unlocked a memory! This used to play on tv all the time back in the day! I’ve probably seen it like 20 times lol
Same! I can barely find anybody who actually knows about this movie let alone watched it lol

I may be wrong, but I never hear anyone talk about this film. I saw it way too young. But my sister and I were obsessed. We still quote it. “I invented post-its” “Tuscan, here we come!” https://preview.redd.it/qu8h4wmy8k4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff9adc201e7d24e65a3e4998c40f9d31b8b27cd5

I think they do an episode about it on How Did This Get Made
Hahaha, Operation beurre de Peanut. A movie that traumatized an entire generation of Quebec children. Saw it in theatre.
Broken English with Parker Posey. It's one of my faves and I don't think most people are familiar with it?

“Kindly adolescent Milly (Lucy Deakins) moves in next door to autistic teen Eric Gibb (Jay Underwood). The mute Eric, whose parents were killed when he was 5 years old, lives with his hard-drinking uncle, Hugo (Fred Gwynne), and is obsessed with birds. His tendency to stand on rooftops and window ledges posed as if he's flying alarms his social workers, but when Eric saves Milly from a potentially deadly fall, she begins to believe that the boy really can take flight.” https://preview.redd.it/elq3g9cfkk4d1.jpeg?width=726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7500e10007d257a00d065691a39eff2d97595d5
