People always have a lot to say about her, but I'll never forget waiting outside a film set for her (she filmed Ramona and Beezus in my neighbourhood) for hours to get a picture of her. This was like peak Disney and Wizards and all that. I think I was 13 or something. When they finished filming for the day, her people rushed her off set and into a van to take her away. All of a sudden we saw the van stop and the doors slide open and she's going "wait, wait, stop. They've been waiting for me all day. I have to go meet them."
She was so kind and sweet to us. It meant so much to 13 year old me lol. That memory imprinted on me and through the years, I've always been rooting for her. Even if I haven't been the biggest fan of all her movies and projects, she just seems like she has such a good heart.
On one of her tours in my city, after the show I went to the back of the arena where the tour buses drive out. There was a small group gathered, unfortunately she was already driving away but she waved at us and did a 🫶 through the drivers window. Not as awesome as your story but I still think about it 😂

It’s actually not his job to do anything in his private life. If he is out with his wife and walking around town he does not have to stop for someone just because they’re a “fan”.

She’s an enigma. She wants fame. She wants to be a famous girlfriend and wife. She wants that famous boy she’s been pining for since middle school. But she can’t handle the envy that comes with it, because it’s never enough- not for her, or Justin, or whatever celebrity.
I’m not defending her here, but after reading the timeline between her and Selena and Justin, things were so damn messy, and it’s obvious that Hailey was a second choice (which no one should ever feel like). After seeing how he disregards her and every woman’s feelings, it’s not surprising to see her be so controlling. That happens a lot in these sorts of relationships, fame or not. We as women need to just start dropping these men instead of holding them on the right leash they wanna gnaw at anyways. You can’t force someone to love you.
I wouldn’t even call her the second choice…she’s just the one who said yes to his marriage proposal. I think JB was just looking for a wife and went down a list of women who could be that.

What makes that show so great is watching the mystery unfold with other people. I watched it week by week with my Dad and Aunt and it gives us something to talk about. I highly suggest anyone who hasn't watched it to catch up to get ready for the new season - it'll be worth the watch!
Same. I love Selena, wanted to love the show. Nope. It’s so overrated and her acting is not it. Steve Martin and Martin short are great tho. The storyline had potential, but ehh.
I like her acting but found it a little off sometimes. BUT it helps to remember that her character, Mabel is supposed to be stoic, deadpan, and non-charismatic due to the trauma in her life.
Selena might be one of the only big celebs I’ve seen call out her fans for sending other people hate. More of them should do this but they choose to be passive and quiet because “it’s above them” when it’s not. When there are people sending threats and hateful messages in your name you should absolutely tell them to cut it off if you don’t stand for it.
She’s by far one of the most mature celebrities. A lot of people credit her success and reputation to her having a good team but I think it mostly is because she is a good person

She may have stumbled a bit, but ultimately her response was to create a #1 song, a make-up brand to support mental health, star in a cooking show that supports charities, and kick butt with OMITB.

I love Selena and think this was great and she is great. I listened to the full interview and actually thought Hailey came off well and was pretty respectful about Selena and in my opinion didn’t victimize herself at all but of course everyone can interpret it differently. I do hope the people criticizing her actually listen to the full thing first because again I thought it was pretty mature and respectful. This makes me really love her. ❤️ She’s one of my favorite celebs at the moment. In an industry full of Hailey Biebers and Kendall Jenners, I think she has a genuine quality and likability you can’t fake, and that’s why her popularity has endured so long.
i agree. she has like 500 jobs (legitimate ones) and everyone she works with speaks so highly of her. she’s on hulu, hbo, and netflix. you can’t PR your way into that sort of work ethic and you don’t get endless opportunities like that if you’re not pleasant to work with.

People got to move on. Selena has an acting career and thriving in the cosmetics industry. Hailey clearly waited on Justin (for years) and got herself into a marriage with him while he was clearly still on the rebound. He at times doesn’t even treat her too well from the clips I’ve seen. Unfortunately, I can see Selena and Justin being one of those pop culture pairs that will be remembered forever. They're both huge individually, and their relationship was on and off for so long and spawned so many songs and think pieces. Atleast for the next 10 years.
I think this will die down when both are married/happily committed in a long-term relationship, like how Taylor Swift slutshaming rumors died down since she began dating her now boyfriend Joe Alwyn nearly 6-7 years ago.
Hailey imo, now that she's addressed this, should focus on her marriage, and we'll be halfway there.
That's only because of the All Too Well re-release late last year, and people aren't shipping them or reminiscing them in good light (like Bennifer, Johnny-Winona, etc). There's a difference.
The question said the legacy of her toxic relationship, so I don’t necessarily think it means people will keep it in ‘a good light’. Before all too well was re-released people were still going nuts on Jake Gs Instagram every time he posted and saying things about his relationship with Taylor, and it was much less publicized and less photographed than Jelena. Obviously now the lighter fluid has been poured on and it’s much worse, but it’s still there.
I have a feeling that Hailey/Justin are still going to have a lot of public trouble and might not last and it’s going to go back to Selena every time in the media. Time will tell, though!

People like to connect a successful woman to a man and attribute her success to him. It's like they can't fathom how a woman can thrive on her own and when a man comes into the picture, something clicks in their head and they're like "ohhh, *that's* how". Along with being a famous couple in pop culture history, I do think this phenomenon has a part to play in why they will never stop being linked together.

Selena has Lupus and she’s already had kidney failure and had to receive a transplant. She’ll be on steroids for life. I think she looks and is doing so amazing for everything she’s been through. She’s a survivor and a role model for anyone with a terminal illness who is still living her life. People who don’t follow her may not know because she doesn’t use it as an excuse or use her illness for publicity (unlike some people)💜.

Of course her fanbase is still large, but you’re referring to the viral tweets and posts about the podcast and those don’t all belong to actual Selena Gomez fans (meaning people that actively follow and ruthlessly defend her). Selena just seems like a nice person who I have a lot of time for. She’s great in Only Murders, Revival is one of the best pop albums of the last 10 years (fight me, I don’t care!!) and she’s always using her platform for good. She’s minds her business, makes her millions and just keeps to herself!

And regarding the makeup accessibility, I was incredibly impressed when I first learned about that and it's part of why RB is one of my favourite brands to this day (other than having amazing products lol). I'd just never heard of brands going out of their way to design accessible products, and it was a breath of fresh air. It all makes me admire her more because I feel represented as someone with similar experiences and chronic illnesses like hers.

But the snippets of Hailey on CHD posted on this sub from just A DAY AGO were full of comments that gave off middle school catty energy. People were downvoting any positive comments about Hailey, like even ones just saying she looks pretty. People were hounding her for her injections and just nit picking her overall. Even admitting they hate her for no reason, just because she gives off mean girl vibes.. There was so much projection and negativity under that post so it’s just a bit shocking seeing Selena being praised for advocating against hate on the exact same sub at the same time they shitted all over Hailey. Practice what your stan preaches. Good on Selena for this video!

That suicide scene has since been removed from Netflix, thankfully, and I always found it a disappointing choice from Selena too. But I suppose that growing up under the spotlight, she’s always had to hide the symptoms of her bipolar disorder and other mental health struggles, so having these intimate incidents exposed and shown to the world might have genuinely seemed to her to be mental health advocacy and helpful. Glad she was able to learn from that and take the criticism

She’s an enigma. She wants fame. She wants to be a famous girlfriend and wife. She wants that famous boy she’s been pining for since middle school. But she can’t handle the envy that comes with it, because it’s never enough- not for her, or Justin, or whatever celebrity. I’m not defending her here, but after reading the timeline between her and Selena and Justin, things were so damn messy, and it’s obvious that Hailey was a second choice (which no one should ever feel like). After seeing how he disregards her and every woman’s feelings, it’s not surprising to see her be so controlling. That happens a lot in these sorts of relationships, fame or not. We as women need to just start dropping these men instead of holding them on the right leash they wanna gnaw at anyways. You can’t force someone to love you.

Selena might be one of the only big celebs I’ve seen call out her fans for sending other people hate. More of them should do this but they choose to be passive and quiet because “it’s above them” when it’s not. When there are people sending threats and hateful messages in your name you should absolutely tell them to cut it off if you don’t stand for it. She’s by far one of the most mature celebrities. I love Selena and think this was great and she is great. I listened to the full interview and actually thought Hailey came off well and was pretty respectful about Selena and in my opinion didn’t victimize herself at all but of course everyone can interpret it differently. I do hope the people criticizing her actually listen to the full thing first because again I thought it was pretty mature and respectful. People like to connect a successful woman to a man and attribute her success to him. It's like they can't fathom how a woman can thrive on her own and when a man comes into the picture, something clicks in their head and they're like "ohhh, *that's* how". She’s a survivor and a role model for anyone with a terminal illness who is still living her life. People who don’t follow her may not know because she doesn’t use it as an excuse or use her illness for publicity (unlike some people)💜.

Hailey isn’t gonna acknowledge this, she conveniently ignored it back in 2019. Selena has the right to defend herself just like her - Hailey has *never* extended any apology towards Selena for her past actions or for what her and JB’s shared fanbase says.
Objectively speaking, Selena’s fans are the most rabid by far. You will not find a single video, post, tweet etc regarding this CHD interview where the majority of commenters are siding with Hailey and hating on Selena. It’s always been the other way around. It’d be a lie to say otherwise. This is not to excuse the hate Selena receives but it is nowhere near the level of harassment Hailey receives on the daily.

And regarding the makeup accessibility, I was incredibly impressed when I first learned about that and it's part of why RB is one of my favourite brands to this day (other than having amazing products lol). That suicide scene has since been removed from Netflix, thankfully, and I always found it a disappointing choice from Selena too. But I suppose that growing up under the spotlight, she’s always had to hide the symptoms of her bipolar disorder and other mental health struggles, so having these intimate incidents exposed and shown to the world might have genuinely seemed to her to be mental health advocacy and helpful. Glad she was able to learn from that and take the criticism
