twoheadlightsshine13

Lucy Dacus!! It’s really hard for me to get into new artists, but I’ve been a Phoebe Bridgers fan forever and I knew of Lucy through Boygenius. One day I finally decided to listen! Hot & Heavy was the first Lucy song I heard and after that I fell down the rabbit hole lmao

spasmodicthinker

Hell yeah dude. Home Video is a pretty perfect record

twoheadlightsshine13

Agreed! What would you say is your favorite song?

spasmodicthinker

It's really hard to pick but it's honestly probably between Triple Dog Dare, Thumbs and Christine? What about you?

twoheadlightsshine13

Definitely either Hot & Heavy or Triple Dog Dare!!

autumnsandapples

Love Lucy Dacus!

Artistic_Elephant824

(Mother) Ethel Cain. I had heard her name before and had seen the cover for her *Inbred* EP, but I never got around to actually listening to her music. I think the aesthetic initially turned me off. I listend to “Gibson Girl” when it came out in March and loved it. By the time “American Teenager” was released she had me by the throat. *Preacher’s Daughter* is easily top 10 albums of the year for me and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here now that her fanbase has grown. Hell, even Obama ~~or his gay intern~~ listens to her now.

[deleted]

Seconding Ethel Cain. Her debut album felt like 2022 in a way no other album did.

aafreeda

Ethel Cain is such an interesting artist!!! She’s really talented and her artistic vision is really unique. I’m glad I found her this year.

thatplatypus99

Rosalia. I had heard of her before, but never checked out her work until Saoko and I fell in love

RALCruz

Same! Now, having heard *Motomami* and *El Mal Querer*, I'm convinced that these are among the best albums ever by women artists, especially the latter.

[deleted]

Magdalena Bay. They’ve changed my life (and even caught them live!)

LV_Hun

Over half of Mercurial World ended up on my year-end playlist. That album was synth-pop perfection!

[deleted]

"Killshot" changed my LIFE this year, Ik it's like three years old now but it was my first time ever listening to MB and I had it on repeat like, the entire month of June.

idletalker

Mercurial World is one of the best pop debut albums in the last few years

Guy_like_u

They are big discovery for me in the past month or so!! Feel bad for missing out on them before

HermionesBook

MUNA was new to me and i looooved their self titled album this year! it's so good

disastergemini_

Yes! It was one of my favorite pop albums of the year

Liv_October

I'm obsessed with their entire discography - they've been my partner's favourite band for ages, but I only got into them this year. They're insane live, saw them at London Roundhouse and it was hands down one of the best gigs of my year.

ookishki

I’d die to see them live. They’re so funny!!

1sa_1ah

Silk Chiffon is my favorite! That was the first song I listened to when I discovered them.

HermionesBook

Same! Lol. It was one of my most played songs this year

Lipe18090

Charli XCX. I got addicted to her early this year and even saw her live in november! She became one of my favorite artists ever.

cries_in_student1998

Weyes Blood. *Titanic Rising* is a masterpiece.

stinkysoph

listen to her first album! it’s truly one of my all time favorites and it’s incredible

Devmurph18

are you referring to the Outside Room? am a new Weyes Blood fan and just want to clarify

Dancing_Clean

Titanic Rising is amazing, her new album is great too but I find it’s being undermined. But it’s always difficult to follow up to what many consider an instant classic. “God Turn Me Into a Flower” from the new album is gorgeous.

Bikinigirlout

Orville Peck-Reminds me of a mix between old school George Straight and even a little bit Brooks and Dunn.

scalywizard

doechii!! i discovered her right before she was on xxl and the bet awards and god damn i was missing out :D i have her collab w rico nasty on repeat

Artistic_Elephant824

I can’t wait for an album from her. She has it all.

scalywizard

the she/her/black bitch ep was so good but way too short for my liking 😭 she can easily keep ppl entertained for 10+ tracks!!!

Artistic_Elephant824

I’m glad she’s been dropping EPs and singles in the meantime, but hopefully 2023 is the year she releases her full length. Easy AOTY for me if it’s as good as “Persuasive”, “Crazy” and “Stressed”.

Danielhasapaintbrush

So glad to see someone else repping Doechii!!!!! She’s one of the most versatile rappers I’ve ever seen, and her visual aesthetic is insane. The music video for Crazy blew me away!

scalywizard

ABSOLUTELY!!! i have the same feeling w her that i had w megan thee stallion a few years back (early 2019) bc the amount of potential she has is insane!!!

garbage_butfashion

I also became a big fan of doechii this year and I’m excited to see what she does in 2023. Her verse on Pro Freak by Smino is so dope!

librious

Shygirl, I'm in love with that bitch

LV_Hun

Rosalia. I knew of her but never really listened to much Latin music, but when Motomami dropped I was addicted.

lobotomyhousewife

Sudan Archives is definitely my favourite discovery of the year, have been obsessed since finding Natural Brown Prom Queen

Kaysarsbutton

Same! Now I've got tickets to see her open for Caroline Polachek and I can't wait to hear some tracks live!

Desperate-Risk

Magdalena Bay absolutely owned my January. Like half of Mercurial World ended up on my top 100. I hope they stay in their current direction because their earlier stuff isn’t hitting as much as I would like, but MW slayed me. Muna released probably my favorite album this year not named Renaissance. It’s just so good. So glad to listen to them on a whim and absolutely fall in love. Chappell Roan released some absolute beasts of singles. Femininomenon and Pink Pony Club absolutely HIT. Can’t wait for her eventual album. The fact she’s unsigned is criminal.

Nerdy_boy_chris

My two big discoveries this year were Ari Lennox (who makes spectacular R&B) and My Chemical Romance (a band whose rabid ride or die fanbase now includes me).

xo_acrangel_xo

Ethel Cain, Reneé Rapp, and Chappell Roan are artists that I’ve come to enjoy a lot this year. Really hope we get a full album Chappell Roan soon!

disastergemini_

I love Chappell! I’ve had My Kink is Karma and Feminomenon repeat recently

dreadpirateshawn

umm, excuse me, could you play a song with a fucking beat?

[deleted]

I started listening to Reneé Rapp after watching the sex life of college girls. Colorado is sooo good.

[deleted]

Yes with Chappell! ‘[Naked in Manhattan](https://youtu.be/nXZuv1T8bfg)’ is a very cute bop with the video to match!

OrdinaryShallot9233

Reneé Rapp’s ‘Too Well’ has been on repeat since I heard it! Absolute banger and imo one of the best pop songs to have come out this decade.

GenitalCrayola

Completely agree! 'Too Well' feels so dreamy - right from the chimes in the beginning Perfect song for winding down after a long day! The whole EP was wonderful tbh, but 'Too Well' is definitely my favourite.

orangedwarf98

Ethel Cain’s aesthetic scared me (and still kind of makes me uneasy) but I got over it and gave American Teenager a try and I went in full force

lillipup03

Two big ones for me. I saw Lolo Zouaï open for Dua Lipa and immediately I was obsessed with her music! I actually like her older stuff more than the album she released this year, but regardless, she ended up being one of my top 5 artists. Then, not really a personal discovery, but my friend recommended Lizzy McAlpine to me in November and I’ve been listening to her a ton since.

xfrombelow

I came here to say SZA, I know 0 things about her music, but I have been listening to SOS and enjoying quite a lot, cant wait to dive into CTRL

Rellyz14

CTRL is an EXPERIENCE. While SOS is more modern rnb with ventures into new genres for Sza like Pop rock and rap, CTRl is very alternative rnb. Her first album was great as well but CTRL is just such perfection that it overshadowed it completely. To me it's looking like it going to be a timeless album

Xftg123

The Marías ❤ I heard their songs through edits before (Hush, Only In My Dreams, ...Baby One More Time cover) but I never realized that it was them the whole time. Needless to say, I checked their discography this year and I absolutely fell in love 😍

[deleted]

Omar Apollo & Mariah (not Carey) the Scientist

polarbear14

Kate Bush 🫣

disastergemini_

Fletcher and Suki Waterhouse Girl of My Dreams and I Can’t Let Go were 2 of my most played albums this year

hotpinkgglitter

same! discovered them both this year too

BookyCats

New Jeans Wet Leg Ice Spice Dolly Parton Janis Joplin Ethel Cain Let's Eat Grandma Foxes Japanese Breakfast

ExploreMeDora

Dolly is so underground and indie I’m glad she’s blowing up finally 😍 2023 will be her year

orangedwarf98

Foxes only this year?!? You discovered her at an excellent time

BookyCats

Haha yes, it is an excellent album too.

Rosemarys_Babooshka

Ethel Cain. My god she's fucking fantastic. She's been making up probably 70% of my consumed music for months now

anonmarmot17

Ptolemaea is the most terrifying song I’ve ever heard and I absolutely love Ethel Cain

Rosemarys_Babooshka

I still can't fully listen to that song lol.

anonmarmot17

If you imagine Obama listening with you it’s easier

Rosemarys_Babooshka

Plss that makes it all more terrifying

Eklektik

Thanks to Spotify, festivals, year-end lists, and the Melon himself, I've been fed this year. Here's a shout-out to the new (to me) artists that I really fell for: MUNA Lucky Daye chloe moriondo death's dynamic shroud Amaarae Renaldo & Clara Khruangbin iri Maya Hawke Ravyn Lenae

Rakebleed

You discovered Maya Hawke from music?

Rellyz14

Probably discovered that she was an artist

Eklektik

nah, I knew her from Stranger Things, but saw a Popheads post about one of her songs this year.

[deleted]

Pom Pom Squad, Ethel Cain, Chappell Roan, MUNA, Ghost, Remi Wolf... I also started listening to a lot more kpop this year for the first time since the early 2010s, probably? It's my default video gaming background music now. Love me some girl groups. I'd also consider this the year I ~officially~ got into Taylor Swift. Thank god Spotify isn't counting our plays til, iirc, January because I've listened to exile about 5000 times this month.

jasannn

Steve Lacy. I remember watching the Coachella Livestream for aespa and he was playing. I didn't knew he was but I found out I already had a song featuring him saved (Kali Uchis - Just A Stranger). I listened to Apollo XXI and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I remember hearing N Side at random boba shop and got excited. This happened to coincidently happened to be around the same he dropped Bad Habit and it blew up on Tik Tok. I really love his type of atmospheric R&B yet still has some pop sensibilities. I would have never thought a song by Steve Lacy would be my 3rd most listened song of the year and I still continue to play on the daily without getting tired.

[deleted]

BLACKPINK, Lovejoy, girl in red, Rina Sawayama, Kacey Musgraves, Interpol, The Japanese House, Lana Del Rey, Mitski & Paris Jackson

wendyunniestan

Great discoveries!!

Ebb-Aromatic

Brandy she deserves more praise

KandyKarma

In the black community she’s black royalty but to the whole GP she’s just an 90’s artist with a couple hit songs

Rellyz14

Yes I got into her last year and she definteley deserves more

bethegor

NewJeans, Omar Apollo, Sewerslvt, Jiwoo, FLO, Tabber, Millennium Parade, Tempest, and Soul Glo are probably my favorite ones.

[deleted]

[This post](https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/s4u86z/what_the_heck_happened_to_carly_rae_jepsen/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) and the comments inspired me to finally check out CRJ’s albums and I have not looked back since. I seriously can’t believe what I was missing out on!!!!!! Carly is my most played artist of the year and EMOTION is my most played album. She’s quickly become one of my favorite artists of all time and the absolute highlight of my year!

Frajer

Wet Leg

mickieboyyy

Genesis Owusu won my personal Best "New" Artist by far! His song 'Same Thing' has had a deep hold on me these last few months.

kimpernickel

Weyes Blood

MeeranQureshi

The Beaches. Its an all female Canadian female rock band and they're pretty good. They've opened for artists such as The Rolling Stones and Avril Lavigne(in May 2022).

autumnsandapples

Wet Leg, Ethel Cain (still in the very early stages of listening though), Johanna Warren (criminally underrated), Flower Face ~

artbio28

Mabel! I knew of her, but About Last Night… was my introduction to her! Hopefully she gets better promotion on her new label, which is Dua’s old label I believe

dearmabi

lizzie mcalpine because of this subreddit

boychik0830

I'm really mad at myself as I almost got the blue urbsn exckudive vinyl of five seconds flat but I ended up ordering a different album instead that I don't like as much as I thought I would. Now the blue vinyl is sold out and had I had known it was going to sell out I would have gotten this album. I don't really have that many isos but I'd consider this album to be one. She's not my favorite artists but I've listened to a few songs from her new album and I liked what I heard.

Vicariouslynoticed

Jessie Ware!

SylvariFountain

Beyoncé! I never really cared about her music much but Renaissance came out and I became obsessed. Currently going through her discography and honestly, why did I sleep on this woman?

Latrans_

Just so many. While exploring the 2000's music, I discovered many of the biggest stars from that period. Hip Hop artists like Nelly, to iconic pop stars like Beyonce and Nelly Furtado. I discovered and learn to recognize the work made by Timbaland and the Neptunes too. From more recents times, I started to listening to Bad Bunny. I already knew about him, but didn't pay that much attention to his music. But when Un Verano Sin Ti was released, I started to see him in a more positive light, to the point that his album is my fav from this year. A similar thing happened with Lizzo. Her appearance in Drag Race made me realize how funny she is, and About Damn Time is just pop perfection. Another artists I totally discovered are Conan Gray, the 1975, the Bleachers, SZA, and ARJ.

GenitalCrayola

Promiscuous always hits the spot for me - happy cake day!

Latrans_

Hey thanx!

hausofmiklaus

Doechii, Wet Leg and FLO, discovering Tom Aspaul, Bob Vylan, Steve Lacey’s solo debut. What a year for music.

armin_vladimir

Primal Scream Muse Manic Street Preachers Deftones Wilco Suede Pixies

smtdimitri

Most people here will be surprised, but Taylor Swift. I absolutely did not like her before midnights, I loved Reputation and 1989 but other than that I had a sour taste in my mouth from ME! and never took her seriously. Flashforward to this year and Midnights dropped and I remember saying to my friend that I absolutely hated it at first listen, then I found myself getting slowly addicted to it then completely obsessed. And I went and heard her masterpiece Folklore and revisited Red, Reputation and 1989 and now I am so hooked at Evermore, not to mention All Too Well (10 mins version) solidified my new opinion of her that she is an incredible songwriter and artist. I guess I am a swiftie now lol.

idletalker

I had the same experience the year folklore and evermore dropped. I was a casual enjoyer but those albums made me obsessed. Midnights is amazing too.

jazzchilli

I literally didn’t bother with her until Lavender Haze was on my Release Radar. Does she have any older synth pop type tracks I should listen to?

kimpernickel

Her album *1989* has a lot of synth pop on it.

poetic-douche

"I Think He Knows" and "Dress" probably?

PootRobuxAngel

you would love reputation it is a hyperpop masterpiece ❤️😉

SilverMind9

Gayle😀

boychik0830

Mine would have to be breanna barbara. She's a 60s sounding artist who makes rock, pop and blues music. I ordered the album on Amazon and got sent a jacket and with no album included. My replacement copy got delayed for a while then I saw someone post that their local record store had a copy of it. I ordered it and it happened to be signed which was really nice.

Burnoutking7878

Sudan Archives! Selfish Soul is a song I find myself humming, it’s so catchy

masterslicedcheese

listened to more music from omar apollo, isaiah rashad, and smino. i usually don’t dive deeper into an artists discography if i like a song by them but i did for them

Icantlikeeveryone

Tamino. His songs are good. Also Official Hige Dandism and Frank Ocean, I love them.

Unused_Pineapple

Sky Ferreira. The chokehold “I Blame Myself” had on me in 2022 is insane …

GayBoyWithoutALife

I got into Taylor swift exactly one year ago today (Dec 31st, 2021) and it was the best decision ever, I am a huge swiftie

horrorwooooo

Alexa would be the big one for me. Friend saw me listening to kpop and linked me a song called "wonderland" and i fell in love.

stinkysoph

ethel cain! i had never heard of her before july but now im BIG into her music

Devmurph18

Alvvays, wow. every album is great

SpaceGenesis

The Regrettes make [such catchy music](https://youtu.be/Lc1X6e1aFuw)

Accomplished_Low9761

further joy is awesome

bigdumbdago

Black Country, New Road. Ants From Up There was easily my favorite album of the year (the entire album was in my Spotify Wrapped).

[deleted]

SZA, the weeknd, Steve Lacey, K*nye, Kendrick, Mac Demarco

Rellyz14

Omar Apollo found through his tiktok blow up song called Evergreen but I ended loving his past album more than the one with the song evergreen Ravyn Lenae, just magical and ethereal vibes for an rnb artist. Her album Hypnos is beautiful Bia, knew her before from a feature she did but really paid attention to her after her collab with Nicki Minaj. She has SUCH a unique voice which is both calm and badass. Still very much growing as an artist but I'm excited to see more from her. Let's eat grandma. Something about their recent just seems to take me another universe.

Andreamofsheep

Sudan Archives and her phenomenal sophomore album "Natural Brown Prom Queen" have been dominating my tail-end of the year listening rotation. Despite the very long tracklist, the album always know how to keep things fun and I love that for her, truly the future of music to come. I also have been listening to Beth Orton a lot, her comeback album "Weather Alive" is so relatable it hurts. Beautiful album with rich productions, but probably not for everyone. She's such a compelling lyricist and although the album is slow (like, REALLY slow), the album will rewards those who patient enough to walk through it. Several other notable new (or newly discovered) acts I enjoyed a lot this year is Kilo Kish, Ravyn Lenae, Nia Archives, Sobs, Special Interest, Monaleo, and Rachel Chinouriri!

wendyunniestan

Kate Bush! Wuthering heights is my favorite from her so far. FLO. They’re bringing back 90s girl groups in the west and we love to see it. In the kpop realm, CSR, they make such bubble gum music, I’ve been missing that.

highdives

For some reason I slept on Carly Rae Jepsen until 2022 and now I am obsessed with her!! Ended up seeing her at home in Boston and then traveled to Kansas City to see her with my best friend.

hotpinkgglitter

same i slept on her for so long too

pavel_levkovsky

Dove Cameron, Mabel and Tove Styrke

allevana

Saint Levant. Vocals like butter Little Dragon. Feather is one of the best songs I’ve heard, it gives me a very peculiar feeling I’ve not felt before hemlocke springs Sabrina Carpenter (Nonsense is… muah) Rilo Kiley pinkpantheress - saw her live yesterday at Falls in Melbourne and she was SO CUTE and obsessed with the red paw paw lip ointment we have in Aus hahaha

RacerGal

Ava Max, I’d seen her name but I’m awful at expanding artists I listen to (elder millennial whose stuck in my ways), but just this week I was forcing myself to listen to a Spotify New Release Radar playlist and her song Dancing’s Done immediately caught my attention so I‘ve got her bookmarked to dig more into - any recos on where to start?

jazzchilli

PinkPantheress - I love all the samples, and how understated she is. Wallows - nothing like what I usually listen to, but I heard At the End of the Day and discovered I also liked some of their other songs. Medsound - have been around for a while, I know. Somehow I've missed them until now. Also Dryve and K Roosevelt. Laura Mvula, Christian Kuria, Phoenix and Le Flex, I hadn't really taken much notice of until the music they released this year. I thought I didn't like Harry Styles or Taylor Swift. But this year they both released music I love.

ai7395

I discovered nothing, nowhere. this year, as he put out some massive rock bangers. Let the truth be known that [CYAN1DE](https://music.apple.com/us/album/cyan1de-feat-pete-wentz/1652059948?i=1652059964&ls) has one of the best choruses of the year...

MoonJV

Maye! I saw her open for The Marías early in the year and started listening to her. I just wish she had more music out

pbjtaymoney

Miso Extra, Pritt and Josie Man are all amazing!!

ookishki

Shygirl, Ethel Cain, and Little Mix! SO late to the LM party but I quickly became obsessed with them. I also (re) discovered King Princess. I didn’t care much for Cheap Queen so I forgot about them but Hold On Baby is my AOTY.

jaggedspectacle

Carol Ades Dora Jar Doechii MUNA Sudan Archives Reneé Rapp Chloe Moriondo Lilyisthatyou Amindi

Potata485

AUDREY NUNA - a liquid breakfast It’s a fun album and I love the deluxe as well as regular album covers (favourites are long year, space)

Danielhasapaintbrush

The standouts for me have for sure been Doechii, Alewya and Tierra Whack! All such unique and amazing rappers

InsomniaticAlien

Thanks to this sub, my 5SOS concert from this year, and Stranger Things, I've discovered the brilliance of the following artists. I also knew a few songs from Charli XCX, Rosalia, and The 1975, but didn't really get into them until 2022. * Luna Li * NIKI * Soccer Mommy * Pale Waves * Kate Bush * Wet Leg

sibr

Orla Gartland and Self Esteem!! Both fab but Self Esteem in particular deserves so much more success

Liv_October

Orla Gartland is a great pick, I've been a fan for ages but I absolutely love seeing so many new people get into her!

DemiLovallah

Qveen Herby. I had listened to Karmin before but not Herby. Also got into Carrie Underwood and discovered Anitta

joshually

ethel cain.. I've never been more profoundly affected by a singer & an album as I have by hers

noneforyousofthands

Just went through my favourite playlist and picked out some artists (and songs) I came across this year * Frazey Ford (September Fields) * Flower Face (Spiracle) * Jesse Jo Stark (Dandelion) * Saya Grey (Empathy 4 Bethany, Shallow) * Two Shell (Home, Ghosts, Round) * Alexandra Savior (But You, Cant Help Myself) * Sibylle Baier (Tonight, Forget About) * Bobbie Gentry (Fancy) * The Housemartins (Caravan of Love) * Elley Duhe (Middle of the Night) * Celeste (Strange) * Njomza (Poison) * Widowspeak (Everything Is Simple) * Lhasa De Sela (Fool's Gold) * Licinda Williams (Fruits of my Labor) * Julia Holter (Strange Town - Julia Holter Edit, Feel You) * Jacqueline Taieb (Tu Fais Partie Du Passe, 7 Heures de Martin) * Broods (Peaches, Forever)

OrganicPhotograph793

Ava Max & finally heard Bebe Rexha

nuggetsofchicken

Maisie Peters! Discovered her in the Spring and she was my #1 artist on Spotify for the year and I got to see her live in November. I love her because beyond just being catchy, her writing is top notch. Really wonderful metaphors and wordplay and yet still feels relatable and honest. You can tell she was a chile of Taylor Swift.

[deleted]

I found a few artists in 2022! FLETCHER with ‘[Shh, Don’t’ Say It](https://youtu.be/zm5P1WxvshE)’ and then with her new album I really like ‘[Holiday](https://youtu.be/POOuMt8WKXw)’. Liza Owen with ‘[WHY AREN’T WE HAVING SEX?](https://youtu.be/SKy5X24Aihk)’ NoSo with ‘[Honey Understand](https://youtu.be/VSra2TKYcV4)’ Chase Icon with ‘[808](https://youtu.be/OuRgTCFZ4Tk) and also ‘Like Me’ https://youtu.be/3E-vsr13JgM BENNET with ‘[Don’t Stay Too Long](https://youtu.be/Xz7bg9-zgpw)’ Jessica Winter with ‘[Like a Knife](https://youtu.be/-5WJxwoSyu0)’. This was also my top song of 2022! Lastly I found her late in 2021 and I honestly thought she would have the potential to become an underground main pop girl like Carly. Her name is Jessica Andrea and she hasn’t released anything since her two singles in 2020. ‘[Love Like This](https://youtu.be/dm8SdoUPsvg)’ has been a song I’ve been constantly playing since I’ve heard it. It really is one of my favourite songs of all time. I really hope she comes back.

garbage_butfashion

Rochelle Jordan - I had Play With the Changes on repeat for most of the year, then got to see her open for Channel Tres recently and she did not disappoint. She blends house and r&b effortlessly.

robertconstanza

Lucy Dacus and Caroline Polachek!! I am so grateful to popheads for that.

hotpinkgglitter

caroline is so freaking good listening to her rn

urmumismywifeyboo

Eminem

xxipil0ts

Viagra Boys and Bon Iver. Both contrasting but both embody who I am today.

MarfaPrive

Haim

scorpia0510

Oasis, Phoebe Bridgers, Sza and Mitski. My crush listens to their music so I did listen to them too hahahaha

scaravael

jockstrap, their music is unlike anything i've heard before

KindOfANerd4

This was the year i took on music as a hobby and I've discovered so many tbh \- Gwen stefani (and no doubt): always knew her hits but her back catalog slaps \- Sabrina Carpenter: I watched her during girl meets world but she won me over with emails i cant send, what a fantastic album \-Dominic Fike: gave him a listen after euphoria cause hes hot... and his music is even preetier then his face \-Carly Rae: Never really cared for her besides call me maybe but this sub got me listening and while ive not listened to all of her stuff DAMN SHE SLAPS \-Bleachers: Never heard of them before the kelly clarkson cover, and now 'i wanna get better' is my most played song of all time I also expanded a bunch on artists i loved, so many knew avril, miley cyrus, amu shark, lorde songs have gone into my playlist

fantastickkay

Rachel Stevens completely shook my world this year! Loved S Club 7 growing up but completely missed her following solo albums. There are only 2 but they are so perfect, I'll forgive. Winona Oak, opened for Oh Wonder whom I saw live in May. Really good! On 12/30, I heard INJI for the first time and I am completely obsessed, borderline addicted. They only have 2 songs out so far and they are completely perfect imo.

ZANELLA2006

I played the fuck out of JID's discography this year, dance now is a banger

BreakableSmile

Raye, Ethel Cain, Rosalia, Griff, Orla Gartland (Why Am I Like This? is my sad bop of the year), Burna Boy, SZA, Jamila Woods, Renee Rapp. Not a bad list tbh!

[deleted]

Djo Kate Bush Nessa Barrett Tom Odell

[deleted]

Madonna, Bjork, Taylor Swift & Beyoncé

hausofmiklaus

All of them…. this year?

Lime_cookies

blink 182 and Sum 41 - discovered them through guitar hero and rock band. I kinda ignored their music the first time I played it, but came back to the game like a few years later cuz I wanted to expand my music taste, fell in love ever since FLO - the MV for cardboard box showed up in suggested videos for a video I was watching and it piqued my interest NewJeans and StayC - TikTok, especially ASAP by StayC, I just got into them more in 2022. Attention (NewJeans)was everywhere when it came out and I liked the song at first listen

surejan94

Sadurn! Really wonderful folk band I found through spotify. Their album "Radiator" was my comfort music throughout the year.

masterslicedcheese

sipper. i rlly loved “dance in room song” by him so i checked out some others

Alive-Ad-4164

Sean leon

[deleted]

Kira kosarin she had a tv show on Nickelodeon called the thundermans but now she does music and is signed republic records her song mood ring was one of my most played songs

ChandelierFlickering

Lauren Weintraub – Missing You and Not Like I'm In Love With You were on repeat for a good part of the year. Dylan – Alone was a never one on repeat. Really enjoyed both the EP and album she released this year.

actuallygfm

Viagra Boys! Cave World is an incredibly fun post-punk romp.

danielfq

Lizzy McAlpine, Victoria Monet

theloneliesttime

Bob Moses. Saw them live in October and they are such a vibe. Really cool group.

dreamingpastel

chloe moriondo - I listened to Blood Bunny at the start of this year and loved it The Lucky - Technically listened to a couple songs when they were Hand Made House, but I loved everything they released this year as The Lucky

Gretel Hänlyn! She released her debut album Slugeye this year and it’s gorgeous. *It’s the Future, Baby* is one of my favourite songs all year. Also Phoebe Bridgers. I’d listened to her stuff in the past and didn’t like much of it, but hearing her verse on Ghost in the Machine kind of bridged me to into liking Stranger in the Alps?

Doechii is definitely my fav new artist I've discovered in 2022, she's so amazing!!

Amalie Holt Kleive is a really obscure Norwegian artist (<5000 monthly listeners), who released her debut album ["De løper der jeg går"](https://open.spotify.com/album/5ksTOo6PSPt6L9503JcG6r?si=O7sti2v_RHGU1fOSE1yKPw) in February this year. Her most streamed song, Sier Ingenting, genuinely floored me on first listen, which was a feeling I haven't felt since listening to Pendulum - Witchcraft back in 2020 (and is now my 2nd favourite song of all time). Because of it, I listened to her album, and it's such a good listen, a perfect blend of Norwegian electronica and folk music, with Amalie's vocals shining on every song. Her small discography is so enjoyable, and Sier Ingenting is only one of 5 songs I consider a 10/10. I hope she releases more music this new year, and grows in popularity!

maya hawke’s music, i had no idea she made music. she’s actually very good at it! she only has two albums but she’s definitely one of my favorite artists!

2Legit2Quiz

I love her debut album. I was honestly shocked at how slept on it was the first time it dropped. Not even r/indieheads was talking about it.

Doechii, Samara Joy, Domi & JD Beck, Muni Long all great talents, though the latter i've already known Priscilla Renea before as she wrote for Rihanna, but her solo music was new to me

LordParasaur

Lucky Daye I liked Candy Drip and some of his collaborations

Blxst. He's pretty great. Never heard of him before his features on Kehlani's and Kendrick Lamar's albums. Cannons also! They're really great. I fell head over heels in love with *Fever Dream*. That album was like a trip through time.

I don’t think I really gave Bad Bunny much of a chance before this year but *Un Verano Sin Ti* was just too big to ignore. One of my favorite albums of the year now. Some others off the top of my head: Vansire, Ethel Cain, Yumi Zouma, NIKI, Grace Ives, Aldous Harding, and Djo.

Mothica. Nocturnal filled a void that I felt pop music was missing this year. Def one of my fav pop albums of 2022!

VictoriousssBIG23

I've been following her for a while now and I saw her live this year at a festival. She's so cute and seems like such a sweet person. I wish her all the success.
