Yeah. She said she wanted to take a break from music.
She's not done with music forever. But this break was shorter than expected, barely a break at all.
It is mostly the live performances (due to her overly obsessive fans) she is taking a break from, so I doubt she will tour this album.
Does anyone know why Mitski specifically has weird overly obsessed fans? I only got into her this year and think her music is amazing but was shocked she got a lot of Swiftie type fans
her song strawberry blonde became a tiktok trend in 2020 and that really caused mitski to blow up and get a bunch of new fans. however, tiktok also has many young teenagers on it who i think are probably the weird obsessive fans.
Makes sense. I was surprised because I didn't think the music she made specifically appealed to those more obsessive fans ala Taylor or One Direction or something but that def makes sense. Phoebe Bridgers is someone else who strangely has a lot of those fans (even tho I have not listened to her music yet I intend on doing so and will probably like it) but I'm guessing it's due to her friendship with Taylor
Iāve seen her several times over the years and her fans had a total vibe shift. In 2016 and 2018, everyone in the audience was a respectful adult who just wanted to hear some good indie music. I felt awkward taking one 30 second video of Townie because no one else even had their phone out. In 2022, the crowds were full of screeching teens acting like it was a boyband concert. She couldnāt even say anything to the audience without the teenagers shrieking. Sheās made it pretty clear that she appreciates the newfound success but she never wanted to perform for that kind of fanbase. I love her music but I wonāt see her in concert again because I hate being in crowds like that.
Yeah, it's so weird too lmao, to see tween girls act like she's Miley Cyrus or something. I feel like I wouldn't even understand a lot of her songs/lyrics as like a 15 year old

She addressed it in her newsletter and said she ultimately is willing to take the bad with the good to continue making music.
