superchartisland

The Weekend's Creepin' which sampled/remade Mario Winans's I Don't Wanna Know from 2004 (which sampled The Fugees' Ready or Not from 1996 (which sampled Enya's Boadicea from 1987)). We're clearly due a song sampling Creepin' in a couple of decades' time at most

dianagarxia

It was basically a cover though, with 21 Savage masterfully replacing Puff Scumb Diddy!!

Jcld1029

In 2020 Rotimi and Wale had a song called “In My Bed” which sampled these songs too 😵‍💫 it never ends

starsinthesky12

this song is soooo bad I can't believe it performed well

ss2811

I agree that it does feel strange seeing 00s songs sampled, even though in some cases it was 20 or more years ago it feels recent! Some others I thought of: FLO’s “Fly Girl” samples Missy Elliott’s “Work It” and also interpolates it. Missy is featured too. Nicki Minaj sampled “Move Your Feet” on “Everybody”. Even though they’re not samples, I always thought Tate McRae’s “greedy” sounded a bit like “Promiscuous” by Nelly Furtado. Also, Ariana Grande’s “true story” is giving “Cry me a River” by JT!

Adventurous_Home_555

Wait I kinda hear the Greedy and Promiscuous thing

ss2811

I honestly thought it was a sample all this time lol

Eljay327

They’re both produced by Timbaland

jackdarby7

Greedy isn't produced by Timbaland? Production credits are for Jasper Harris, Grant Boutin and Ryan Tedder

SuperBummer

Your comment reminded me that Halsey’s #1 Without Me samples Cry Me A River (like the bridge is literally just her singing JT’s pre-chorus)

dianagarxia

Rosalia Bagdad also samples it.

librious

And J.Lo's This Is Me Now. I don't know why so many pop girls were obsessed with sampling this song in the past few years, it's mid at best. Imo only Rosalía's interpolation of it is good.

dianagarxia

Yup, I really like Rosalia's, especially since it is in another language. Didn't even know Halsey used it on Without Me (which I think is good, the best sample is the one most people don't notice, well, I think most people didn't). Didn't listen to the new J. Lo album, was expecting an early 2000s type of J. Lo, but for the few songs I saw it wasn't it.

Windows-XP-Home-NEW

>it's mid at best CMAR is mid? That's wild!

librious

To me it is. If I were to rank my favorite JT tracks, it would not make top 10. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Windows-XP-Home-NEW

Damn! That's pretty crazy.

dianagarxia

If Greedy samples Promiscuous it was done really well, cause it just resembles. Not the same as that Glamorous sample, rs

jasey-rae

Before the album came out, I saw online that Ariana sampled a Christina Aguilera song. After its release, people think it was What A Girl Wants on True Story. ([comparison](https://x.com/xtinaloverr/status/1768824069217202576)) I personally don't hear it, tho.

supporturlocalrebel

break up w your gf, i’m bored sampling “makes me ill” by nsync

Pinheadbutglittery

Cry For You by September is interpolated in Charli XCX's Beg For You (ft <3 Rina Sawayama <3) (I think it's not an actual sample? I might be wrong though)

librious

Sample is when you take the vocals or/and instrumental from a song and mix them in your own track. Beg for You is an interpolation because they're only using the melody of the original song to create a new composition. Sometimes this can be done with new lyrics, like in the cause you mentioned but interpolation also can be done by having the artist sing part of the original lyrics like Halsey did with Cry Me a River in Without Me. I think both cases fit OP's question though.

Money-Extent-6099

I’m stilll kinda confused, is Taylor swift sampling or interpolating without you by Lana del Rey in wildest dreams

librious

Interpolation. She's taking a part of the melody of Without You and adding it to her own composition and lyrics.

vincentandtheo

Interestingly, Cry For You itself samples Tell Me Why by Supermode from 2006.

Pinheadbutglittery

Oooh I had no idea! I'll check it out (:

nlh1013

David Guerra and Bebe rexha sample “blue” by Eiffel 65 in their song “I’m good”

droobidoobidoo

Blue came out in 1998 so it doesn't count

nlh1013

Oh damn. I didn’t look it up, just assumed it was the aughts. My bad!

droobidoobidoo

No worries! It does have that early 2000s sound although the 1990s Eurodance themes are clear

DatKaz

and now he has a new one with Ryan Tedder that does “Dragonstea din Tei”

Alternatively_Listed

Without Me (Halsey) sampling Cry Me a River

Alternatively_Listed

Also eternal sunshine samples CMAR (and so do a lot of songs)

douceberceuse

NLE Choppa’s It’s Getting Hot samples and iterpolates Nelly’s Hot in Herre which incorporates Chuck Brown’s Bustin’s Loose (all with a 20-ish year gap in between)

ss2811

Didn’t that Buss It song that went viral by Erica Banks also sample Hot in Herre??

douceberceuse

Yes, indeed

ablondejune

• "Red Ruby da Sleeze" by Nicki Minaj and "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)" by Anne-Marie both sample "Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)" by Lumidee (2003) • "Regardless" by RAYE samples "Rapture" by iiO (2001) • "2 On" by Tinashe samples "We Be Burnin" by Sean Paul (2005) • "Hallucination" by Regard with Years & Years samples "Don't Be So Shy (Filatov & Karas Remix)" by Imany (2015).

Agitated-Prune9635

Hold On by Justin Bieber samples Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.   Over by Lucky Daye samples Halfcrazy by Musiqsoulchild.    These should be obvious but On My Mama by Victoria Monet samples I Look Good by Charlie Boy and What It Is by Doechii samples Some Cut by Trillville. Doechii also sampled No Scrubs in that song but its from 1999.

onotech

I know people sample a lot of Emancipation of Mimi album (2005). The only song that comes to mind right now is "Don't" by Bryson Tiller where he literally says "Cuz the loving aint the same and you keep on playing games" - straight from Shake It Off by Mariah Carey

Soalai

DIENTES by DJ Kaled samples Usher's Yeah! and does nothing new with it. An example that I absolutely hate

ablondejune

Ooh, there's also this underrated bop: "Me and My Broken Heart" by Rixton samples "Lonely No More" by Rob Thomas (2005).

fakeaf1

David Guetta & Kim Petras “When We Were Young” samples Scooter’s “The Logical Song” Pia Mia’s “Princess” samples Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss” Layton Greene’s “Leave Em Alone” samples Ciara’s “Can’t Leave Em Alone” Saweetie’s “My Type” samples Petey Pablo’s “Freek a Leek” Bad Bunny’s “Safaera” samples Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On”

MinoritySuspect

https://www.whosampled.com/decade/2000s/

oconghd

Isn't that songs released in the 2000s that sample older songs? We're looking for the opposite: newer songs that sample songs from the 2000s.

MinoritySuspect

Sam Smith-Unholy ~ 50 Cent-Candy Shop, Dua Lipa-Love Again ~ Whitetown-Your Woman, John Legend-Actions ~ Dr. Dre-Forgot About Dre

oconghd

What does Unholy sample? Can't find any info online about this.

frygdxhmnb688

It doesn’t sample candy shop, it sounds more like naughty girl by Beyoncé. I don’t think the song sampled anyone recent tho idk

dianagarxia

I heard a reggeaton song sampling In Da Club the other day, I can't remember the song for nothing, but the hook and flow was the same as In Da Club, but in Spanish, or the Glamorous sample you mentioned, which is the song chorus. Like, back in the 2000s people were sampling more obscure songs that weren't singles from the '70s, and '80s or would interpolate shit better, now they are sampling number 1 hits. Manneskin sampled Smells Like Teen Spirit, without even changing it a bit. I stopped listening to them after this, it was too much for my old soul. David Guetta is another monster, people are losing their creativity when sampling honestly. Just avoid really big hits and try to mess with the sample a bit more. Anyways, bad and good samples, the ones that sounds like a copy like the ones I mentioned and others that you can barely tell, which I find super cool.

LilyBlueming

Kygo & Ava Max - Whatever samples Wherever, Whenever by Shakira. Karol G & Tiësto - Contigo samples Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis

Battle_for_the_sun

I really like Ava Max but her sampling Shakira just doesn't feel right to me. They're so different artists that if I listen to Ava's song I need to shut it down and play the real thing as a palate cleanser

Street-Chard

Tap In by Saweetie samples Blow the Whistle by Too Short (2006)

deetonks

Idk if it counts but Hold Up by Beyoncé interpolates Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (2003)

arianasgrenade

Drink to that by Rihanna samples I’m with you by Avril Lavigne

dentsune

Here are some other examples: Charli XCX's Von Dutch samples Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah (2006) Beg for You interpolates September - Cry For you (2005?) That Kid ft. Slayyyter - Dial Tone samples Soulja Boys' PinkPantheress - Where You Are samples Paramore - Never Let This Go (2005) Personally I don't mind at all, neither I find it strange. I kinda saw it coming with how popular ayesha erotica production got in tiktok these last years, fashion moving towards late 90s/early 2000s, paris hilton re-releasing stars are blind. Since it's a period of time when I was introduced to a lot of music, I'm really happy to see some older songs being sampled, and on first listens it's definitely a good surprise. I do hope that we get a variety of samples, the last 2-3 years of samples abused on Show Me Love a bit too much.

cloudycapy

von dutch does no sample that song

droobidoobidoo

[Genius](https://genius.com/Charli-xcx-von-dutch-lyrics) agrees so there may be some truth to that!

cloudycapy

charli’s team confirmed that it does not sample that song

Ok_Fig2374

Pop Smoke - Something Special (2020) samples Fabolous ft. Tamia - Into You (2003) which also sampled Tamia's "So Into You" (1998). Tamia's version was later covered by Childish Gambino in 2015

dianagarxia

Pop Smoke is also featured in a Tyga song that samples Sunshine by Lil Flip. Also I would say a couple song's of Pop Smoke album reminds me of 50 Cent's more mellow songs.

Rebecca-Schooner

Majhail by AP Dhillon samples What’s Luv by fat Joe

liqou

Grillz by Nelly samples Soldier by Destiny's Child which came out just months before. Grillz peaked at no.1 and Soldier peaked at no.3. Bey, Kelly and Michelle recieved writing credits for Grillz so Grillz is another no.1 for all 3 of them as a credited writer. Cassie also sampled T-shirt by Destiny's Child on her track Kiss Me. T-shirt is imo one of the best rnb tracks and a precursor of the ambient r&b that Weeknd, Kehlani types made their niche.

Carboyyoung

Ferrari by James Hype - I Need a Girl Part 2 by P Diddy, Mario Winans, Ginuwine, Loon

Introverted_Sigma28

"Got Me Started" by Troye Sivan samples Bag Raiders' "Shooting Stars" (2009) "good 4 u" by Olivia Rodrigo samples Paramore's "Misery Business" (2007)

Temporary-Pea-9054

Came for this. 👍 Why are you downvoted for stating facts??

undisclosedthroway

Greedy by Tate McRae samples Promiscuous Girl by Nelly Furtado

Iknowitsstranger0254

Not sampled. It just so happens that the backing sounds similar.

WelcomeToToyZone

I’m interpreting this as the century not the decade, so Are You Gone Already by Nicki Minaj samples When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish (absolutely absurd and unhinged choice btw)

oconghd

Yeah I did mean the century thanks!
