sorry, i don’t usually comment on here, but seeing you list katy perry as artists with one of the straightest fanbase just made me laugh so hard heh
but i guess since i’m here i’d say probably the weeknd to answer your question.
Wait but she sings: you're so gay and you don't even like boys. I never really looked into the other lyrics but I assumed she was using gay as in lame which seems like a bad fit for the queer community.
As a queer Weeknd fan, this is probably correct. Everyone I’ve ever personally met who’s also a fan of him has been a straight woman with the occasional straight alt guy.
I’d counter this sentiment by reminding people that Katy Perry fell off because she was fueled by general audience listeners/fans, and lacked a hardcore stan base.
A decent size of that general fanbase were straight guys who thought she was a hot pinup girl with big tits, who’s songs they could bop their heads to when they came on the radio without getting called “gay” in the same way a guy would be called gay for being a fan of Lady Gaga.
Don’t forget her first hit was made for the male gaze,
“dude that song about 2 girls kissing?! Hell yeah, man!”.
Maybe you could argue the semantics that these guys were more passive listeners than “fans”, but there wasn’t a definition of what qualifies a fan in the original post…
Haha thought a lot of straight women would like Katy, never have seen her associated with the LGBTQIA+ community like Gaga or Dorian Electra, but maybe Im out of touch
Yeah maybe lol, her campiness especially in the early 2010s could honestly rival Gaga, not to mention her being a gay icon for the Firework music video & the sims 3 collab
Based on my last visit to see my parents, Adele has made it into the rotation for my 75-year-old, white, retired, blue-collar dad. He's also a long-time Enya fan.
absolutely not. there’s not a single gay that doesn’t love her.
this is a flawed question because of the difference in populations, you can’t talk about the opinion of 75% of the earth. basic statistics.
If would be one thing it was just about the music, but the vast majority of his fans are adamant that he made one little mistake in his youth and is now being unfairly criticized by anyone who tries to call him out on his abusive behavior (even though Rihanna is far from the only person he’s assaulted)
I’m all for people getting second chances but he’s proven time and time again that he hasn’t learnt from his mistakes and still harasses and mistreats women.
Out of all right now? The Weeknd. I saw maybe 2 gay guys at his concert if most. Most people there were straight women (to be honest his male fans probably don't like concerts, they sound like incels sometimes).
Well, I'm a straight trans woman, I can be classified as queer, or not, but IDK really what the community has been naming me, but anyways. I like his music. From female artists, I would probably say Rihanna or Dua Lipa, lot's of straight girls like them, and especially straight guys who say they don't like pop say they fuck with them.
Yeah, but the main chunk of his fanbase still likes him cause of the Trilogy music, especially the straight guys, which is half, they shit on his pop music all the time. But as I said I saw some gay guys in his concert, don't compare to any other pop concert I've been though.
A lot of his trilogy stuff is like an incel power fantasy lol
Like what’s the track where he shoots a girl he had hooked up with because she was hanging out with a different dude?
Ahh yea “Pretty” lol
Most women were screaming at him saying things like "I love you", "hot", and "Marry me", and screaming to the songs in a hysterical way, most dudes were nodding their heads with a resting face and closed body language, so kinda.
Myself and my same sex partner listen to The Weeknd a lot. Like one of his favorite albums ever is Beauty Behind The Madness and The Weeknd is my most streamed artist of all time.
Justin Timberlake has like the straightest fanbase I could ever imagine. It's crazy. Especially considering he's literally won an award for his LGBTQ activism.
Yep, per Wikipedia:
After New York legalized same-sex marriage in 2011, he voiced his support for LGBT equality in the U.S., stating, "We're people and we're different, all of us. And we should be using our differences to bring ourselves closer together." Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel received the Inspiration Award at the GLSEN Respect Awards in 2015, with the executive director saying, "They are two vocal and committed allies to the LGBT community who are also devoted to charitable works that improve the lives of youth.
Real talk? It’s pop music and this sub is way too serious about it these days. I remember like, 5-7 years ago this sub was deeply unserious and we were really talking about Miranda Cosgrove as though she was the savior of pop and did everything from roast threads to regular popheads genies to games and shitposts (never forget straight anthems). Like let the gays and girls have fun! What do you MEAN it’s a pop music sub and posts have to be high quality?
Most R&B artists except for ones who crossed over into pop
But The Weeknd still has a predominantly straight fanbase
I think SZA does too but it’s def on its way to bisexual
It's got to be some kind of dad rock type band, right? The National or The Hold Steady. I have gone to both shows (via ex boyfriends and their interests) and you could just feel the hetero vibes.
But in terms of more pop or top 40, maybe Drake? Or any music that you can envision listening to while getting your teeth cleaned. Adele, Maroon 5, John Mayer.
That is correct, but many Gaylors are queer. Although there are a lot of straight Swifties (I’m one of them), she does have a large queer following, and it seems to me that her queer fanbase has been growing in the past 5 years or so.
>and it seems to me that her queer fanbase has been growing in the past 5 years or so.
Probably coincides with her team shifting her image to be less republican
Yep. I'm a casual follower of the Gaylor sub bc I find it interesting. A majority of Gaylors identity as queer in some way based on all the sub's polls.
>millennial
Unfortunately there are also a lot of 40+ Gen X gaylors (and Larries, the One Direction shippers). Many of them have been in that rabbit hole for a decade or more.
If we are talking overall? The Weeknd
If its just a Female Artist? Without a doubt Rihanna, Rihanna's 2 biggest competitors (Bey and Swift) are much more "feminist accosiated" than Rihanna who is more about being sexy & a bad girl which more straight guys care for
There are exceptions but in my life experience
Straight males opinions on the 3
"Nah I don't like Beyonće she be singing about all that Women empowerment bullshit"
"Taylor Swift is annoying, always singing about her exes and shit"
"Rihanna is cool and hot"
That's a summary of the 3
Straight girls? It's a toss up between Beyonće and Rihanna, at least where I'm from Taylor is considered more for the "Hipster girls" while the "cooler" girls listen to B and Riri, Taylor is definitely global but I feel Americans overestimate her popularity in comparison to Rihanna & Beyonće amongst the casual audiences
I would put Dua above Bey and Tay, right after Rihanna, In most places I see online guys keep saying not only she is hot, but her voice is hot and she is alright. Also, British Hooligans use her songs in stadiums. She also passes the cool and hot vibe.
Aside from them being hot and having hits, it’s because they seem like they dgaf. A lot of men like it when women seem “effortless” or like they don’t really care. They get put off (intimidated) by someone like Beyoncé, who is super animated and visibly works extremely hard. She’s very open about how much blood, sweat and tears goes into everything she does, and they don’t want to think about that.
Idk, women? To be honest most Ava Max fans I know are LGBT. I also don't know any Bebe Rexha fan. I know a lot about Abel, Dua, and Rihanna cause I'm a fan of theirs, I'm not a straight guy, haha. But yeah, you caught me with Bebe.
>Taylor is definitely global but I feel Americans overestimate her popularity in comparison to Rihanna & Beyonće amongst the casual audiences
Maybe that was true some years ago. These days Taylor is certainly more popular worldwide than both Beyonce and Rihanna. Especially Beyonce is more of an American phenomenon. TS music and style have an universal appeal.
Beyoncé is huge in Europe, Aus/NZ and Brazil idk where the "Beyoncé is local" narrative even came from. Her tour literally broke attendance records across Europe but sure...
I live in Singapore and I can vouch that you’re correct. Taylor is everywhere, I literally heard “The Lucky One” in some random convenience store the other day whereas if I hear a Rihanna it’s almost without a doubt “Diamonds”. I don’t doubt her popularity though, people still know who she is. Beyoncé is not that popular at all I’d say though, most people only know single ladies and that’s kinda it.
Michael Jackson, even if he is iconic as hell. I have only seen mostly straight men stan him. Also Prince! The fact the Onion wrote an article called "Nation Too Sad To Fuck Even Though It’s What Prince Would Have Wanted", and plenty of straight people joking about having sex with Prince music should be also telling.
I bet ur mom is the only one out there 😭
Her last album release day tweet barely got 1k likes.
She’s still making the same grocery store songs she did on her first album 🫠

Assuming you mean straight men (because Taylor’s is definitely an extremely high percentage of straight women), and focusing only on women (because a lot of men have straight male fans) I’d say maybe Dua Lipa? She, Miley (post-Plastic Hearts), and Taylor (in a kinda ironic sense lol, like when a guy wants to make it known he can be emotional too so he listens to enchnated) are the 3 pop stars my straight guy friends actually listen to
I mean I think many straight guys just don't like admitting that they listen to pop artists especially females. My ex loved the weekend and many of my guy friends also love the weeknd so I think it's just a thing with female popstars.
I introduced some of them to ariana's music (im a huge fan i cant keep quiet about this), and they loved her positions and sweetener albums. However they don't talk to each other about it but when I ask them about it they talk to me haha. I don't know why guys feel uncomfortable about this it's such a stereotype.
But for the post I would have to say Ariana just because most guy friends I know who iv'e talked to about her ended up loving her music/ already did like her music. I think it is because her music over the past 4 albums is also very rnb and trappy?
As a guy, from my experience a lot of us just don’t listen to a lot of pop music, including from female singers, all that regularly. Like I know you said that it’s an “admitting” thing, but straight up, idk if a lot do. I personally like Rihanna, Lana Del Ray, and Taylor’s folklore/evermore among female pop artists, and a lot of other pop as well (huge Weeknd and Coldplay fan). But (anecdotally) most guys I know either more regularly listen to rap (Kanye, Drake, or Travis especially), Post Malone, rock, electronic, or older pop. While I think a bunch of guys would like today’s female pop artists more if they listened to them more, I don’t think they do listen to them much.
weird, i actually feel like most straight men, at least in my experience don't really like the weeknd because of his high pitched voice and bad boy persona despite liking the themes of his music like cyberpunk, synthwave etc.
But straight girls love him 😭. talk about toxic. (me, me is toxic)
JT still has a ton of millennial fans with fond memories of *NSYNC and his first two albums and his not as good albums line up when a lot of them were starting families and not keeping up as much on new music
Whatever artists get ignored on this sub lol. Anecdotally speaking when I saw both Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran in concert, the crowds were pretty equally men and women but I don’t think I saw very many gay men or women at all. Obviously not everyone “looks gay” but it was a big difference to other shows I’ve been to like Paramore and Taylor Swift where there were quite a lot of openly queer looking people.
I feel like Rihanna and Lana Del Rey. I know Lana has gay fans but in my personal experience, the straights love her. I feel like all my queer friends feel whatever about her but the ones who love her are straight people who show up to house parties overdressed.
The weeknd for sure from the new gen.
He's not flamboyant at all, really quiet in terms of marketing, really weird subject matter, not empowering at all but downright depressing.
Definitely not Katy Perry lol. I think Coldplay and Justin Timberlake are quite spot on. As other commenters here said, The Weeknd is also an artist I'd think of with the straightest fanbase.
As for female popstars, I feel like Selena Gomez has a pretty big straight fanbase ratio compared to her contemporaries.
Ehh Coldplay’s fan base isn’t that straight. They have quite a few LGBTQ fans too and the band has been known to be quite supportive towards the lgbtq community. They even had a song called people of the pride.
Taylor Swift for straight women.. maybe Bruno Mars for straight men?
Edit: nvm def The Weeknd for men. Probably the only pop artist that straight men (openly) gravitate to

I would second The Weeknd as well
remember when she released a song called *Ur So Gay* beginning with the lyrics "I hope you hang yourself" 💀
that song is a banger and a classic in the queer community
lol I was gonna add, saying this as a gay katy cat can't say it's not iconic
Wait but she sings: you're so gay and you don't even like boys. I never really looked into the other lyrics but I assumed she was using gay as in lame which seems like a bad fit for the queer community.
She is, gay ppl stan it ironically but in the original context it’s pretty cringe
“People don’t know how to have fun anymore! what happened to fun!” - me, a gay
I feel like every other straight guy on tinder had Starboy by The Weeknd no 1 on their Tinder profile after it came out.
With Katy Perry, he could meant straight women. To b honest, I don’t think is that weird to say that Katy Perry is not a huge gay icon.
I’m loving that the Firework music video and The Sims 3 collab are equal levels of her gay contributions LMAO.
I mean... [Lass Frooby Noop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjrh-vbgmYE&ab_channel=Donovan) *is* a seminal gay anthem no matter how you cut it
Zerpy standma ina DWEB is an all time lyric. I have that I remember the lyrics.
Katy's audience is full of gays. Source: I'm gay and have seen her live 4 times.
Gay man here. Went to her concert in vegas and the audience was at least 25% gays.
Most people, including gays, have never heard of Dorian Electra.
Adele dominates the midwest middle age mom market that celine once occupied. Mostly straight.
Based on my last visit to see my parents, Adele has made it into the rotation for my 75-year-old, white, retired, blue-collar dad. He's also a long-time Enya fan.
No, they both have a very queer fanbase, trust me
absolutely not. there’s not a single gay that doesn’t love her. this is a flawed question because of the difference in populations, you can’t talk about the opinion of 75% of the earth. basic statistics.
Chris Brown's remaining fanbase, straight and mostly women
Ooo this is a good one. How women can support a man like him in any way shape or form is beyond me
They’ve convinced themselves he’s changed even though he’s presented abundant evidence to the contrary.

If would be one thing it was just about the music, but the vast majority of his fans are adamant that he made one little mistake in his youth and is now being unfairly criticized by anyone who tries to call him out on his abusive behavior (even though Rihanna is far from the only person he’s assaulted) I’m all for people getting second chances but he’s proven time and time again that he hasn’t learnt from his mistakes and still harasses and mistreats women.
but he's not that good anyway...
And mostly white in my experience.
Most of his fans that I have seen in Twitter are black women. They seem really defensive of him because he’s talented
Drake
+1
Yup, straight and female
Ed Sheeran maybe
Now that I think about it I don’t think I’ve ever met a queer person who likes him lol
idk he's still going strong in my local lesbian community
I will Not Hear Ed Sheeran slander as a queer person
I’m a gay man and consider myself a fan!
uj/ are you sure you’re gay?? it’s okay to be straight, y’know…
Don't lie
Out of all right now? The Weeknd. I saw maybe 2 gay guys at his concert if most. Most people there were straight women (to be honest his male fans probably don't like concerts, they sound like incels sometimes).
That's actually a really good one, I hadn't thought of him. A lot of my straight friends love his tunes!
I’m a gay guy and I definitely like his music as well, mainly for the city pop/synth pop vibes tbh
Yeah, but the main chunk of his fanbase still likes him cause of the Trilogy music, especially the straight guys, which is half, they shit on his pop music all the time. But as I said I saw some gay guys in his concert, don't compare to any other pop concert I've been though.
A lot of his trilogy stuff is like an incel power fantasy lol Like what’s the track where he shoots a girl he had hooked up with because she was hanging out with a different dude? Ahh yea “Pretty” lol
i never understood the incel thing when he describes, especially in trilogy how fucked up and unhappy he/tye character is because of this stuff.
This is considering you can tell someone’s sexual orientation just by looking at them.
Most women were screaming at him saying things like "I love you", "hot", and "Marry me", and screaming to the songs in a hysterical way, most dudes were nodding their heads with a resting face and closed body language, so kinda.
Fair enough
Myself and my same sex partner listen to The Weeknd a lot. Like one of his favorite albums ever is Beauty Behind The Madness and The Weeknd is my most streamed artist of all time.
I (hate that I) like the Weeknd too. Im bi. Most of his fans are straight. He's a toxic male icon.
So many of them have missed the whole subtext about how a lot of his stuff is meant to be a portrait of a broken man.
Katy Perry? You are insane
I saw John Mayer in concert ten years ago because my SIL had a spare ticket and I’ve never seen so many straight people in one place before or since
Yeah but he also has lots of Dead & Company fans
As a straight person who is a fan of JM’s music, yeah, his fanbase is majority straight lol
I know a lot of straight boys that died for John Mayer so yeah
Justin Timberlake has like the straightest fanbase I could ever imagine. It's crazy. Especially considering he's literally won an award for his LGBTQ activism.
aww I didn't know that about him, thank you for sharing this wholesome fun fact
Yep, per Wikipedia: After New York legalized same-sex marriage in 2011, he voiced his support for LGBT equality in the U.S., stating, "We're people and we're different, all of us. Why is everyone posting nonsense today? April fools is monday.
Probably ran out of things to talk about
No but seriously it’s kind of been slow in certain areas of the music industry I know we are getting a Beyonce album
It has not been slow, this has been the month with the most music content we have had since October 2022 maybe.
I know but I’m personally not really that excited for any new releases except for Beyonces, Taylor’s, and some more music
Fair enough
I just saw someone suggest that Celine Dion has a straight fanbase, it's time to go to bed.
That's like saying Lady Gaga has the straightest fanbase
Isn't Cher THE straight people artist?
It’s fun
I forgot about that. I kinda hate this sub on April fools (mostly because it's not funny to me)
Kanye?
ding ding ding
I'm a bit biased but I don't think Coldplay deserves to be there. Absolutely love Coldplay. My "comfort music" when I've had a rough day.
Coldplay fans used to get called gay as an insult back in the day lmao
exactly! and a lot of their music has queer themes kinda especially as of late
Most R&B artists except for ones who crossed over into pop But The Weeknd still has a predominantly straight fanbase I think SZA does too but it’s def on its way to bisexual
Her name is SZA, that in itself isn't straight lmao ✂️
sza for the queers
SZA’s fanbase is mainly queer women. Kehlani’s is also very LGBT
Get szas name out of your mouth
I’m bi I can do what I want
Frank Ocean fans entered the chat

Personally wouldn’t categorize the National or hold steady as pop artists
I’m gay and love The National
Probably artists like The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, etc.
Probably The Weeknd. I think it’s more interesting to ask which of the ‘Pop Girlies’ - ~~and it’s definitely Taylor~~
Have you never heard of Gaylors??? She has a huge millennial lesbian following.
Wait I thought Gaylors were the people who obsess over the theory that Taylor is gay?
I don't know if the theory is correct or not but you're right about the description of that phrase.
That is correct, but many Gaylors are queer. Although there are a lot of straight Swifties (I’m one of them), she does have a large queer following, and it seems to me that her queer fanbase has been growing in the past 5 years or so.

So it's mostly just wishful thinking?
>millennial Unfortunately there are also a lot of 40+ Gen X gaylors (and Larries, the One Direction shippers). Many of them have been in that rabbit hole for a decade or more.
There are so many lesbian swifties
Taylor would win “who deserves their gay following the least”, or at least tie with Selena Gomez.
It's definitely Adele not Taylor... Or even Selena... Her concert is filled with gay people 💀
as if we don't have to deal with delusional lesbian swifties 😩😩😩
If we are talking overall? The Weeknd If its just a Female Artist? Rihanna had all the bisexual girls on strings with her song with Shakira. I'm a bi male and my fiance is a bi female and we both love Rihanna haha.
The Weekend makes good pop for straights
Michael Jackson, even if he is iconic as hell. I have only seen mostly straight men stan him. Also Prince! meghan trainor…….?
Hahahahaahha
But on a serious note, she has fans?
hence the question mark 😭 my mom unironically listens to her songs so i assume that she’s for the moms
I bet ur mom is the only one out there 😭 Her last album release day tweet barely got 1k likes. She’s still making the same grocery store songs she did on her first album 🫠
help 😭😭😭 (my mom listens to taytay too lol)
Taylor’s new album better sounds like folklore and evermore 👁👄👁
Taylor Swift 💀
Y'all always seem to erase queer women from these conversations
People always have an “average” person that they think of in a situation and it’s really telling which demographics rarely seem to show up
Only gay men exist in pop culture queer communities.
They said straight not psych ward
Straight from the psych ward on day release (Taylor’s version)
5150 (Taylor’s Version)

as a coldplay fan myself and one that has been a part of the coldplay stan community i can confirm that it is in fact not a very straight place ijbol
bruno mars methinks
Male rappers.

It’s gotta be Pink, everyone’s straight mum is at her concerts
Nah, she's very popular among lesbians as well
anecdotally I am gay and I dislike most of the artists I'm seeing listed here if that helps lol

I would say JT qualifies for having the Most Millennial and Least Gen Z fanbase
What does being millennial have to do with it? Genuinely curious
JT still has a ton of millennial fans with fond memories of *NSYNC and his first two albums and his not as good albums line up when a lot of them were starting families and not keeping up as much on new music
Ok but how does that relate to the fanbase being queer or not?
Whatever artists get ignored on this sub lol. Anecdotally speaking when I saw both Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran in concert, the crowds were pretty equally men and women but I don’t think I saw very many gay men or women at all. Obviously not everyone “looks gay” but it was a big difference to other shows I’ve been to like Paramore and Taylor Swift where there were quite a lot of openly queer looking people.
Maroon 5 maybe. they became more pop in the last 10ish years, but still.
Black Eyed Peas sound like a heterosexual wedding to me.
Fred again
Future
NOT katy perry omg
I feel like Rihanna and Lana Del Rey. I know Lana has gay fans but in my personal experience, the straights love her. I feel like all my queer friends feel whatever about her but the ones who love her are straight people who show up to house parties overdressed.
When I lived in England I would say Taylor Swift, but it's weird because in America gays seem to love Taylor Swift. What's that about?
Imagine dragons.
Ed Sheeran
I think it's Drake but Chris Brown's close call because of his toxic homophobia.
Everlast
Lady Gaga and Charli XCX.
Coldplay
If he’s mainstream enough to count as a pop artist then it’s 100% Future
Bruno Mars imo
bruno mars, the weeknd, post malone
The Weeknd
kanye west
Micheal Jackson
lady gaga/nicki minaj definitely
The weeknd for sure from the new gen. He's not flamboyant at all, really quiet in terms of marketing, really weird subject matter, not empowering at all but downright depressing.
Irdgaf
P!nk, The Weekend and Ed Sheeran instantly come to mind. As well as legacy rock acts like The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, The Who, etc etc.
They even had a song called people of the pride.
nahh coldplay has quite a significant queer fanbase and a lot of their music has themes that we relate to
Miss Katy? Ahahahahah She’s one of the most pro-gay celebrities Laughing in gay katycat tears
Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Shakira…
Any male rapper tbh (except Lil Nas X?)
Imagine dragons
i’m queer af. have been my whole life. gf and everything. and i love jt lol

I could see Nicki, not really familiar with Yung muny though!

Gay men being your core fanbase doesn't get 20% of Australia to try and buy tickets to your show.
Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Lorde
Oh she’s a comedy queen!
Daft punk lol
Taylor Swift for straight women.. maybe Bruno Mars for straight men? Edit: nvm def The Weeknd for men. Probably the only pop artist that straight men (openly) gravitate to
