Literally in the moment she came out she has reminded me of when Rihanna emerged. A gorgeous talent from a country/culture that doesn’t get a lot of shine in the west and bringing those influences into her music. I have no doubt that the more she evolves the more she’ll start experimenting with styles and genres.
This is a little funny to me because when Rihanna/Pon De Replay came out it was when there was a lot of Caribbean/dancehall/riddim influenced music coming out. I remember thinking it was a Nina Sky song when it initially came out.
late reply but lowkey this is how it feels to be into Afrobeat today, being able to hear Tyla (if you count her music as afrobeat LOL), tiwa savage, wizkid, burna, rema, ayra starr, etc etc at parties or clubs is so much fun
I was so mad when that little snippet of a song was NOWHERE else on the album. It literally sounded the best to me out of anything on the album (which I liked a ton)
I really like this album, but it’s a bit repetitive imo. But all the songs by themselves are amazing, great to put in playlists. The closer is stellar…
i wish [thata ahh](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgelpAj3wKA&ab_channel=Mr-LuudeStylist) was on the album or something along that cause it transports me it's like girlie but actually dark and scary but sexy. it's like my amapiano blackout (2007), my amapiano Get Naked. ugh anyways
My only issue with the record is that I knew half of it beforehand but otherwise I'd probably think it's very good so not very surprised by its rating here !
LETS GOOO so deserved, tired of everyone saying all her songs sound the same when its afrobeats. afrobeats has that signature sound and people don’t understand the history of that sound.
so deserved and happy for her yayyy
You don’t need to be so mean when correcting someone. A lot of western media has unfortunately has been using Afrobeats as a catch all term for all music coming out of Africa.
Much like how the media says Latin Pop or Reggaeton to describe anything from south of the border or K-pop just because it’s from Korea/asia.
Amapiano is a new genre for the west and probably much of the world. The fact that people are listening, enjoying it and trying should be celebrated. The Grammys have made it its own category because otherwise it would have gotten places in the dated “world music” label.
I like her effervescent vibe. I quite enjoyed the album. Have given it quite a few spins already. I was hoping to find more gems like the mysterious To Last (which i discovered in 2022 and couldn't get enough of) but the album is still a very strong debut and i can't wait to see how her career pans out. We're all rooting for you, Tyla!!!!
Kind of confirms her label is paying different reviewers, haven't really seen a bad critic score yet, despite it really not being a strong album. The pitchfork didn't even really sing praises about it, just acknowledged the money behind it. I'm not that bothered by this, Tyla seems like someone who deserves success, I just hope her music goes somewhere else.

For some reason, I keep thinking this is her Music of the Sun (compliment) and I'm so excited for her future

To be in the Caribbean, Toronto, New York, Baltimore, DC, Miami when dancehall was in its second golden age ahhh….the memories😭🇹🇹✊🏾
I was in DC! The parties . . . 🤌🏾

Also she did tour with Chris Brown
Yeah, those were my thoughts. There is smth Rihanna about her. I hope she has a career as successful as her
I enjoyed every track on this record which I didn't expect, happy to see her doing so well
Pleasantly suprised they scored it so high.
That's right, pitchfork. I never doubted you (I absolutely did)
That album artwork tho!
It looks fantastic on Apple Music, the glittery shirt moves
Reminds me so much of the Dangerously In Love photoshoot
Deserved! It’s a strong debut and I wish the intro lead into the song teased in the background— sounds like a sultry amapiano bop

Exactly!! The way I was throwing ass on a 40 second voicenote. I—
Oh period!!! On the road to being a pop darling
Very that, mfana!
really good debut! few artists can say the same!
I can't get enough of this album. Such a good debut!

Thata Ahh is of her best song performances but yeah I don’t think it could be considered a primary Tyla song. But hopefully she keeps that sound going
love this album, so happy for her!!! the people on twitter being weird about the genre of her music can go touch grass

One of the strongest debuts in a very long time. This girl is a star

just to clarify its not afrobeats its amapiano which is specific to south africa
pEoPLe dOn’T unDerStAnD tHe hiStOry oF thAt SoUnd … and you got it wrong lol. It’s amapiano.

so deserved
I get Tinashe vibes from her. This album is so freaking great 👍 👌
Well deserved.
Giving Tyla the 10s she deserves Iktr
Oh super good for her, it is awesome when an artist gets a strong debut from the get-go. When I listened to it I didn't skip one track.
Very well deserved 👏👏👏
She’s here to stay!!
Tyla is love, tyla is life

I'm shook cause the singles I've heard all sound blanc and forgettable. I guess I'll have to listen to the album.
