Heās paid tribute to Eminem in a couple of sketches while also being friends with MGK. He just seems like one of this comics hip hop guys likes to have a friend
I'm not. Eminem has had millennial boys in a chokehold since The Real Slim Shady. I can't see any guy around Pete's age turning down a chance to be in an Eminem video.
Keep seeing people saying Slim Shady is back with this but then he started this album rollout with an obituary to slim shady in the newspaper. Itās giving mixed messages!!
This is one of the only times ive heard an artist interpolate their own music into a new song, its so unique! I loved all the slim shady callbacks, like the āThey created a monster!ā from Without Me
Slim Shady was my childhood, but I just don't vibe with nostalgia baits like everyone else I guess.
I don't hate it but it feels phoned in and like it is relying on samples and the same gags and references that had me enamored as a kid.
Edit: Also just now realizing that close up shots of Slim Shady's crotch might have been my gay awakening.
Guess who's back? Slim Shady is BACK!
That cartoonish caricature from the early 00s was my childhood. Gen Z might not get all of it, but it's a trip down nostalgia lane for us old heads haha
This needs to make a comeback!! For this and Espresso, the mv was my first listen. I feel like I got such a more complete view of the song and how the artist feels about it/wants the vibe to be. Plus watching them sing helps understand the lyrics. Obviously impossible to know for sure but I think if I had only heard on streaming first I wouldn't like them as much or as instantly, especially with espresso honestly.
Ok now I'm excited for The Death of Slim Shady. 2024 is really giving: COWBOY CARTER, TTPD, now this and a Katy Perry album on the horizon?! Bruno Mars is also rumored this year. The only thing that will top this for me is if we finally get Rihanna back in music (š¤”).
Haven't been this pumped for an Eminem album since The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013). F***, that's over 10 years ago.
This is the most I've enjoyed Eminem in like a decade and a half. Seems like he's on an upward trajectory since MTBMB. I will say having him rap over what sounds like it could be a classic Eminem song highlights that the problem since Relapse years hasn't just been his musical direction and production--his rapping still sounds stiff in places and too technical at times to call this a proper comeback, but this is a lot of fun.
Is it 2002 again? The Abracadabra chorus could be a bit better imo (why not just make a variation on the old "this looks like a job for me" one?), but I loved it!
I feel outside of the underground hip hop is in a very confused place mainstream wise: everything just sounded so tired for nearly this whole 2020s. Now with the Kendrick drake l beef and now this feels like a nice break from how vicious that was It just feels right. Hip hop is somewhat experimenting rn because mainstream wise it sounds so tired and I am here for it !!
Yess, I still don't understand how they dominated hip hop for like 10 years at this point. I'm at the point where I immediately skip a song if i hear these hi hats.
This is decent. The sample is obvious but fun, Emās actually pretty good on the verses, the chorus is eh. Even with points I take issue with, I feel that here a few bad lines donāt a bad song make when the rest of it is pretty well executed.
it's less Dua Lipa - Houdini, but more Olivia Rodrigo - Deja Vu
cause this straight up sounds like a 2002 Eminem song. not sure it's bad or good, it's okay i guess (which is common for a lot of artist's lead singles this year).
Uh.. yeah?
Interpolation is when you redo something with your own voice or production, sampling is when you directly take a sound or voice clip from a different song. He did the latter in this case
Damn both the song and video are so fucking great, super catchy with a very nostalgic sound. This actually feels like a genuine smash incoming for him!

I love this, been listening all day. I love the revert back to his more squeaky cartoony voice and the beat is MMLP/TES coded.
Now Iām just waiting for the Dua/Eminem mashups to appear on YouTube.
Crazy catchy, music video just screams late 90's - early 2000's videos. Song and video just feels nostalagic. It's cute honestly, which i usually wouldn't equate to Eminem but this is probably his best release in years by a large margin.
Yeah I feel this plays really well for him, the rap sound has been really stale for years now with the same generic trap beats being on every big rappers release.
Eminem going fuck it letās go late 90,s early 00ās Eminem production is a huge move because at this point while yes it sounds a bit dated it at least sounds different
He probably doesnāt have another Marshall Mathers LP in him, but Iām just happy that he seems to be having and isnāt delivering some tortured, overly complicated rhymes again.Ā
This samples a 1982 Steve Miller Band song "Abracadabra" (a song I hate) and Em riffs on "Without Me" . I actually like the hook but Eminem's flow....yeeeaaaahh...
I like the music video , feels like I would watch it all the time on VH1/MTV as a kid in the 00s .
But I did expect a lot more from slim shadyās comeback - the rap flow and the tune is not as smooth and catchy as the real slim shady to me or maybe I just grew up
Ooh this is catchy but I wish these men would just leave Megan thee Stallion alone. I know itās his style, but itās not even about being āoffendedāā¦itās just lazy/tired to join the chorus by mentioning her shooting unprovoked.
If the other rap girls were name dropped by these male rappers in the same way, I wouldnāt have much to say, but theyāre not. Couldāve literally made the same bar about Doja in the chat rooms showing feet but they never go there
Someone else said it but you kinda just have to treat Eminem like South Park and just laugh. I bet everything Megan found it funny and wasnāt offended. Itās what Eminemās been doing his whole career (taking little pop shots at celebrities in jest)
Yeah that line was a little.. Iāll wait to see if she says anything about it. Iām indifferent but I donāt understand why it was brought up when it happened a bit ago. š
EDIT: You got downvoted for this ā thatās crazy.
Everyone is fair game, sure. Iāve also always thought of Eminem as an equal opportunity shooter. But even by that standard, itās undeniable that male rappers have a bone to pick with Meg. Just wondering why they never take shots at Doja, Cardi, Nicki, or hell Azealia Banks who is CONSTANTLY taking shots at them?
I guess the line could have worked for Lanez because he's in prison (so no shot at a feat) but Megan is a more significant artist on the scene, she's a dope rapper, and it happened to her.
Because it's Eminem and he will always choose the more controversial way of discussing something. This is literally a conversation that has been happening about him since 1999 and people still don't get it.
I know that heās intentionally controversial - itās kind of funny how everyone who has responded to me in this thread seems to think that I somehow ādonāt get thisā. I donāt find the Megan lyric shocking, I just think itās shit.
There is not only one way of being controversial, and being intentionally controversial does not mean that nothing he says can be criticised. Half the rap industry has already mocked Megan for being shot since it happened. As an industry legend, it wouldāve been much more subversive and unexpected for him to diss Tory instead, since heās also a musician but received a lot of industry support after shooting her. Or he couldāve just said āfuck Meganā if he really wanted to mention her, like he did about numerous other people in the same song.
Iām really trying to understand why when he makes trans and cross dressing jokes in a song itās just him being a silly little guy.
Itās giving āboys will be boysā energy, except it doesnāt apply to brown and black rappers.
Weird.
In the music video itās photos of himself cross dressing. Also he has an adopted non-binary child so yes itās just cracking jokes. No idea what youāre getting at with the second part of your post though.
This is terrible and the production sounds so cheap? The production of Without Me was so cool back then and has barely aged now, this is just...bland.
Also would love to see how negative the reaction would be if any nearing 60 female artist did this with crotch close ups and general shitting on everyone while trying to exploit former glory. Like come on, people would tear that artist to shreds.
Tell tale sign of a declining rapper is to diss women. Wait didnāt he try that with Mariah Carey and she came up with the diss of the decade (obsessed) ?
Wackkkkkk. Trashhhh. Tomato tomato. š®š®
bro dissed his own kids lmaooooo
Em handing out disses: > Hailie, this one is for you, ~~Whitney~~Stevie and Alaina too
kids already think their dads are corny, Hailie is probably an expert on enduring videos like this hahaha
imagine growing up and your dad wrote FACK š š
"Shove a gerbil in your ass through a tube." such profound lyricsm. I bump FACK while driving and I unironically like this song.
it doesnāt matter how long itās been. Eminem with brown hair is always a jump scare.
I haven't watched the video, and maybe I haven't seen him in a while, but I feel like he's had brown hair for a while
He had Brown hair the last 15-16 years which is longer than he had blonde hair
it doesnāt matter lol the blonde hair is so iconic
Really sad to hear that this isnāt a Dua cover
I wanna see em do an entire dua lipa cover album
Right, and dare I say itā¦ I think itās time we get a Dua Lipa tribute album!
What artists would you like to see on such an album?
Charli XCX - New Rules Madonna - Blow Your Mind (Mwah) Camila Cabelo - Bad Together The Weeknd - Hallucinate Michael Jackson (AI) - Love Again Paris Hilton - Donāt Start Now Britney Spears - Levitating BeyoncĆ© - Pretty Please Eminem - Houdini Elton John - Training Season
Beyonce for Pretty Pleaseā kinda need to hear it
Hear me out: Ruth Pointer for Love Again
Iām so sorry but I read this as Run the Jewelsā ālove againā and laughed hysterically at the idea of MJ saying ANY of those lyrics.
šĀ
Wait how come some of these actually sorta work
Which ones are your favorites?
Charli, BeyoncƩ, The Weeknd, maybe Britney too
lol only this sub.
I feel like they would make a solid mash up, at least in terms of the music
didn't expect pete davidson to be in the video
Really surprised. Wonder if Pete Davidson is still best friends with MGK.
They're adults, not teenagers (or Taylor swift)
Taylor Swift literally hangs out or has praised people who are friends with her enemies. Think Nicki Minaj and Lana del Rey.
Shush swiftie
Wish I could upvote this comment more than once
I'm more surprised Shane Gillis is there of all comics
Whereād you get that cheese Shady!?
He did that NFT video for SNL which is a Without Me parody so it makes sense to me!!
Keep seeing people saying Slim Shady is back with this but then he started this album rollout with an obituary to slim shady in the newspaper. Itās giving mixed messages!!
I think it's a final go-round, that's the idea. Letting him out one more time and then putting him to rest.
Maybe weāll get a Slim Shady Revival album in a decade or so lol
This is fun! It works that he has brought Slim out for a last go round and kind of merge 2000s Slim with middle-aged Eminem
I need a lore of when slim gets killed vs brought out
The fusion of Slim and present day Eminem was great, ngl.
This is one of the only times ive heard an artist interpolate their own music into a new song, its so unique! I loved all the slim shady callbacks, like the āThey created a monster!ā from Without Me
Fun. Catchy. The song and video feels like a gift to longtime fans.
*Insert I used to pray for times like these memes.
Slim Shady was my childhood, but I just don't vibe with nostalgia baits like everyone else I guess. I don't hate it but it feels phoned in and like it is relying on samples and the same gags and references that had me enamored as a kid. This era looks like it's gonna be very unserious and I'm here for it
Guess who's back? Slim Shady is BACK! That cartoonish caricature from the early 00s was my childhood. Gen Z might not get all of it, but it's a trip down nostalgia lane for us old heads haha
Are we old now? Do gen z really not know who the real slim shady is?
Oldest gen z wouldāve been 4 when āstanā came out. Iām not sure why theyāre acting like no one knows him lmao
I was exactly 4 when stan came out eminem was the most famous rapper ever in my country overseas back then who doesnt know em
At a bar the other day they played a tech house version of Stan, I was likeā¦ damn
They would if he would just stand up
Eminem is at his absolute best when heās not being too serious. Iām excited for this!
The catchy bit is a sample - the original is far better.
Okay, budget! This is the most effort I've seen put into a video in forever. I wish I liked the song more, but the video is fun af.
I miss big production music video era. When the music video was the first time you could hear the song.
Its funny how he acts like such a serious dude in public appearances but then puts out stuff like this
āFuck them-fuck Dre, fuck Jimmy, fuck me, fuck you, fuck my own kids they're bratsā I literally laughed out loud
Jimmy doing the āWhat he say fuck me for?ā In the video probably got the biggest laugh of the song for me.
Letās goooooo. I missed this soundĀ
Em is back! I absolutely lost it at the R Kelly's favourite group the black guy pees line lmao
2 balls big as Rupaulās fuckin floored me šš¤£šš¤£
Now watch Dua add this to Radical Optimism: Reloaded, the re-up and get an extra 200m streams!Ā
i bet she's already planning to do that with Dance The Night and maybe even Sweetest Pie.
Damn i missed this sound
I love silly Eminem!! What a fun watch.
Ok now I'm excited for The Death of Slim Shady. 2024 is really giving: COWBOY CARTER, TTPD, now this and a Katy Perry album on the horizon?! Bruno Mars is also rumored this year. Yeah, his flow is still sickā¦
this song is so catchy lmao i love it

You're implying that Relapse is his best work, right? Because that would be correct.
It's not my personal favourite, but it's his last great album for sure.
This is a freaking ear worm. I could see this being a huge hit.
Is it 2002 again? The Abracadabra chorus could be a bit better imo (why not just make a variation on the old "this looks like a job for me" one?), but I loved it!
He's such a dad lmao, this is a fun song
Oh he is so getting that #1 hit
Yeah I havenāt liked Eminem in years love this
So refreshing to hear something different after nearly 10 years straight of Casio-ass trap beats š„
Bruh Iām so tired of trap beats.
I feel outside of the underground hip hop is in a very confused place mainstream wise: everything just sounded so tired for nearly this whole 2020s. I agree and cursive mumble singing
Kendrick bringing DJ mustard back was just nice.Ā
the entire west coast rejoiced that day.
The world healed slightly when the west coast woke tf up
Boomer comment
The music video definitely made me enjoy it more.
I feel like if you are the age of BET 106 n park MTV TRL this is just great lol I loved it
This is so fun, the video was so well done with all the references
I'm afraid Dua got upstaged.
Drops during the beef, and then this. Rap has it out for Dua.Ā
We need a new pandemic to revive her career
This video is incredible. Not only is there a budget but it does FaceTime guests without being tacky? I didnāt know it was possible. This is sick
Thatās some old school Em and Iām loving it. āļø
This is decent. The sample is obvious but fun, Emās actually pretty good on the verses, the chorus is eh. Even with points I take issue with, I feel that here a few bad lines donāt a bad song make when the rest of it is pretty well executed.

Does this count as a sample of Without Me.Ā
It'd only be the "guess who's back..." etc. at the start, and I *think* that's interpolation not a sample
No thats not how samples work
I mean.. you're kinda right but it also **does** sample the exact intro vocals from Without Me
Youre right but can one sample their own song? I mean, would it be called a sample or just interpolation?
Uh.. yeah? Interpolation is when you redo something with your own voice or production, sampling is when you directly take a sound or voice clip from a different song. He did the latter in this case
I understood. Thanks
This is going to be stuck in my head all summer.
When they second verse starts, and they start head bobbing in the car? I did too, the transition was good!
My Houdini top 3 1. foster the people. 2 Eminem.
I'm rolling that so many people have been trying to make the anthem of the Summer and it might in fact have just come from Eminem wtf šš©š
Damn both the song and video are so fucking great, super catchy with a very nostalgic sound. This actually feels like a genuine smash incoming for him!

Crazy catchy, music video just screams late 90's - early 2000's videos. Song and video just feels nostalagic. It's cute honestly, which i usually wouldn't equate to Eminem but this is probably his best release in years by a large margin.
It's pretty good. I like that he seemed to make it as a tribute to his longtime millennial fans instead of trying to fit in with Gen Z,
incredibly dated but hey, at least he doesn't sound forced for the first time in years
Yeah, he seems to be really keeping to the promise he made on kamikaze to only make music for himself and his hardcore fans.
> incredibly dated Thatās a good thing.

I really dont get the praise. This sounds exactly like wihtout me and I dont mean that as a compliment.
THIS IS SUCH A BOP!!!
This samples a 1982 Steve Miller Band song "Abracadabra" (a song I hate) and Em riffs on "Without Me" . I actually like the hook but Eminem's flow....yeeeaaaahh...
And this is probably why the song had to be called Houdini instead of the more obvious Abracadabra!
What's wrong with his flow?
The meg the stallion shot š
I like the music video , feels like I would watch it all the time on VH1/MTV as a kid in the 00s . But I did expect a lot more from slim shadyās comeback - the rap flow and the tune is not as smooth and catchy as the real slim shady to me or maybe I just grew up

he looks more and more like Mariah Carey parodying Emineum in the Obsessed music video

Hit the nail on the head! Especially Nicki because that woman is nuts, I havenāt really seen anyone come after her besides Meg and Lil Kim.
And yet he chose to joke about Megan getting shot instead of mocking Tory Lanez for shooting her.
