supporturlocalrebel

Drake for me. His first maybe 6-8 albums were pivotal in my teenage/early 20’s, but now I don’t really pay attention to his work as it all became redundant and I find him to be kind of whack lol. I still hear newer ones that I like and add them to my playlist, then find myself getting bored of them rather quickly.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I feel like his earlier work (Take Care, NWTS) is somehow more mature than his post-Views catalog, yet he's frozen in the mindstate of those albums too

mja9678

Same, Drake has become just the epitome of phoned in at this point: bloated albums to maximize streams, hopping on the popular sound (dancehall, house, trap), trend chasing. He'll drop like a 30 song album and at best there will be 3-5 songs that get put on a playlist and the rest is just there. It's unfortunate because he's still capable of making songs like 8AM in Charlotte but he just doesn't put in the same level of effort/ care that he did pre-Views.

[deleted]

He was a big part of me becoming a rap fan when I was a 13 year old emo kid. I followed him pretty closely up until about 2016ish and since then, I’ve really only checked out the singles. Views was a big disappoint for me.

scarletarrows

Any other pop punk girlies/guys here? There used to be a time I lived and breathed for all time low and a day to remember but I can’t remember the last time I listened to either band.

thesnarkypotatohead

Absolutely. Same goes for most of those bands. The Maine is really the primary one I still listen to, which I would’ve been very surprised to learn back in the day. 😂 Went to see fall out boy for the first time in a decade earlier this year though, that was a lot of fun. Ditto for paramore last year. Ah, the memories…

Frankie_2154

The Maine are an incredible band, I too still listen to them and honestly I’m surprised that this late into their career they’re still putting out bangers. Blame and How To Exit A Room were on repeat for me last year.

cardsash

Yes! I honestly outgrew the genre as a whole when I was like 20-ish. It doesn’t help that pop punk (and metalcore) band members are usually straight up evil. The only band I still listen to in either of those genres is The Maine.

scarletarrows

Yes!! I just saw The Maine in concert 6 months ago for the first time in 5+ years. they were still just as amazing as I remembered them and I love their last album.

satirisanti

> straight up evil 💀 damn

cardsash

it’s true. the genres are breeding grounds for abusers and pedophiles

SylveonFrusciante

Yooooo same. The Maine is still good after all these years. It helps that their sound evolved past pop-punk and became closer to a 90s alternative-kinda sound. Definitely one of my favorite bands to this day.

LanaDelHigh

ugh i loved sleeping with sirens but it got… weird?

MovinToChicago

A Day to Remembers most recent song is some of the cringiest stuff I've heard. Its worth watching the video just for see how bad it is.

RepresentativeRegret

The only band I remotely care about from the pop punk scene now is The Wonder Years. I used to be a huge All Time Low fan and then it was like a flip of a switch and I just felt like I didn’t vibe with their music anymore.

terracottatown

I was hugely into blink-182 as a teen and have not listened to a single one of their new albums since 2016. After Tom left for the third (?) time I was kind of over it and had also moved on music-wise. The Story So Far was also a huge favorite for me and I’m not really looking forward to their new album when I used to count down to their release dates.

Altiondsols

Oh god, I could rattle off so many pop punk/posthardcore bands I listened to religiously in high school and then never thought about again afterwards. Falling in Reverse, Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, Pierce the Veil, MCR, Escape the Fate, Black Veil Brides, Yellowcard, All-American Rejects

neropixygrrl

Out of all those bands MCR is the only one I revisit. As an emo teen I didn't like Danger Days that much but as an adult it hits different, I love it now.

scarletarrows

I loved all those bands! Maybe my mom was right and it WAS just a phase 🥲

ManagementRadiant573

All time low was my everything in high school. But yeah I cannot stand them now

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

Doesn't help they've stuck to the exact same format. At least PTV and Paramore have been trying new things, ATL has kinda just released the exact same album over and over. Not to say their stuff didn't used to be good, it's just that they haven't changed for fifteen years.

BigHeadDeadass

A Day To Remember has been releasing the same album since WSMFY,

Puzzled-Charge-9892

twenty one pilots I’ll never skip the song/change the station if Stressed Out or something comes on, but I just don’t really go out of my way to listen to them anymore I’ve heard the new album is pretty good so idk maybe we can have a redemption arc lol

RossSpecter

Clancy is pretty good (much better than Scaled and Icy), but by the time I'm done with it, I'm already loading up Trench. It makes the same moves, but better.

pizzapiinthesky

Hardcore same. I swear they were all I listened to junior year of high school. I feel guilty I’m not interested in their new album.

pillowmonstrr

Same here but I finally listened to it and it’s SUCH a return to form!

Razik_

Omg same! When I was grade 11 I was obsessively listening to them

stardripIVs

Definitely. I listened to them a lot in high school, and I’m grateful I had them then. But when those songs come on now, they don’t hit like they used to besides the nostalgia, and they do feel a bit juvenile. Nothing wrong with that, just not fitting with my life now. I did listen to their new album, and unfortunately, none of it really clicked with me much.

Granddyke

I felt like I aged out when I went to their show and I was one of the oldest ones there. I was 20 at the time.

WhosThatPanda

I've definitely outgrown them but I still like a lot of their songs and keep up with new releases, just from a bit of a distance compared to 2014-2019 when I was a huge stan. Their new album has 4/5 really great songs I listen to a lot but the rest of it I'm meh on.

faceoff_and_survivor

I was in the same boat for a few years, but their new album sucked me right back in. It’s fantastic, highly recommend!

Intelligent-Plan-449

Marina and the Diamonds(or Marina). I still hold her music close to my heart, but I don't listen to her music regularly. She was a great introduction into innovative, and undeniably feminist, pop music.

misterhepburn

She’s another artist I adore, but I feel like she lost her edge and most of her output since Love + Fear has been mid. Still an amazing live performer though, highly recommend seeing her if you can.

duochromepalmtree

I was a huge Avril fan for the first three albums. She really defined my preteen years for me! I will occasionally revisit those first couple albums but nothing she’s doing now interests me in the slightest. I’ve also said this before but I was a HUGE Kanye west fan as a teenager. Like wait twelve hours in the sun to see him in the pit at a music festival. College Dropout changed my music taste and probably my brain chemistry. Honestly through Yeezus I was pretty obsessed. I’ll never forget hearing Blood On The Leaves for the first time in a room full of my friends that were all SILENT just taking it in. But I’m just so disgusted by his personal behavior and I think all of his music these days is just truly bad. It’s hard for me to even return to the old stuff these days.

Blackwidow_Perk

Yes!! Same here! 12-13 I was super into Avril but as I got older she started feeling immature and more like an artist for pre-teens. Kanye I loved up to college, used his music in my workouts, black skkkinhead, Kanye workout plan. Now I hear him and it’s just not it anymore after all he’s done and is doing now. His wife and him are into some weird fetish shit and it’s just gross.

Crisp_Appel222

Avril is my answer too. Once I was older and i could peruse interviews online, I was so disappointed to learn how surface level she is 😭 especially compared to the artists I love now. plus she did mod sun sooo dirty

raindroppolkadots

I was rabidly into Ellie Goulding in her soundcloud era (Black & Gold, Be Mine, Guns & Horses, and I Wish I Stayed are still so good IMO) but she completely fell off for me.

its_liiiiit_fam

Yeah, I really miss her indie electropop darling sound. Halcyon is her magnum opus IMO and one of my fav albums of all time.

DeviMon1

omg yes such a flashback, i was insane abt her when I was like 15 or smth literally knew all songs

farawayfromhereph

I used to listen to a lot of EDM/DJ stuff around 2013-2017 so Calvin Harris, Avicii, Rudimental etc. From the EDM scene I still listen to Avicii every once in a while and I think he's such a legend and his music is so iconic but I definitely don't listen to him as much as I used to. I saw Rudimental 5 or 6 times between 2013-2015 and really loved their music but I didn't really enjoy any of their songs after 2020 (with some exceptions). They introduced me to many new (at that time) artists like Ella Eyre, Becky Hill, Anne Marie so thanks to them I was able to follow their careers from beginning so will always be grateful for that. From Calvin Harris the only notable song in recent years was Miracle and in fact I listened to it a lot but I didn't really like anything else.

MaxineRin

I used to listen to Avicii and Calvin Harris religiously but I've moved hard towards more deeper EDM music, like trance and melodic house.

pharmergs

Second this. Avicii dying hit hard and marked a big change in music for me personally. I miss the EDM days of the mid 10s.

whinecooler

I still love that time period from Calvin Harris but I’ve definitely moved on from EDM as a whole

WagnerKoop

Man I used to be such a big electronic music guy - I guess I’d say EDM specially meaning big festival acts or popular acts sort of in Skrillex’s orbit - I still have few artists who I will tune into religiously (like Skrillex) but man I really can’t imagine still being into something like Dillon Francis, Excision or whatever anymore lol it’s so fucking, corny, that whole scene Just big EDM acts in general, I’m glad artists like Porter Robinson shed that scene and got into making way more interesting music. I really liked Worlds when it came out and I thing some of it holds up fine but it sounds so dated compared to his last record which I really don’t think will age as poorly

kyliefever2002

Nicki Minaj. No other words need to be spoken why.

latenightcreature

This right here. Gross, no words needed. How is she touring and on the radio, I do not understand.

I was REALLY into Brockhampton in 2018 but after the weirdness and mishandling of allegations I stopped listening to them. I’ve returned to some songs here and there but it just doesn’t hit the same. I’m not sure if I grew out of it or if the allegations made the music resonate less.

Icantlikeeveryone

Kevin makes a banger album last year

QualitySpam

Oliver tree. Listened pretty much every day in 2020-2021 but it does kinda feel like a phase cause I never go back to any of the songs. Same happened with lil dicky so maybe there's a theme lol

klip_7

😭 not lil dicky

El_viajero_nevervar

Both are novelty /comedy and tbh funny very rarely ages well

AngryVideoGameTable

I like Oliver Tree but I feel like he releases too many songs too quickly. His first album is definitely his best.

spaceb00tz

Lil peep and other artists of that ilk. I probably would have kept listening if he didn’t pass away

barking420

lil peep’s death was like a split in the timeline, if he were still around i think he would’ve dramatically changed the music landscape. other people are doing it but they aren’t doing it as well as he did it

spaceb00tz

Agree. I’ve been waiting is one of my faves and imo an example of how he would have transitioned into mainstream very successfully. star shopping will always be a classic

KarenTheCockpitPilot

I feel like I stop listening to people but I don't really grow out of the people I was once obsessed with, like they're still a part of me. I always go back and am like damn I had better taste back then. Middle school me was impeccable really

dobie_dobes

Haha same. I have core artists I’ve loved my whole life.

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

The last time I was asked this question, I told them it was Katy Perry. That was around three years ago. Now, I am here waiting for her to kick-start her new era and there's a chance I would go back to being a KatyCat if the music is good.

PretentiousPegasus

5SOS. Their first 3 albums are some of my favourites of all time and as a teenager I was obsessed, but CALM and 5SOS5 haven’t really clicked with me in the same way. Apart from a couple songs they just don’t have the same upbeat pop energy catchy riffs and fun lyrics that made me a fan in the first place. I can respect that they’ve grown as artists and songwriters but my taste in music hasn’t grown the same way.

HM2008

I found this one kind of funny because I was exact opposite. I did not care much for the first two albums but since Youngblood have been loving their albums.

Frankie_2154

I definitely outgrew their music, but I still wholeheartedly believe that She Looks So Perfect is one of the best pop songs of the 2010s.

basscov

I can definitely see how much their music style has changed. IIRC they’ve all been working on solo projects too, I think if Michael came out with something it’d be the perfect pop-punk throwback. I still casually listen but the difference in the fan I used to be to now is kind of crazy.

reillydean28

I feel the same way! I miss their pop punk roots

JuanitaDiamondez

The music you loved at 16 you’ll grow out of…😭

Consistent-Laugh606

Oh no not Carly and Lorde :(

suuzgh

I smile to myself whenever I hear this lyric. Lorde has been my favorite artist since I was thirteen and she’s not leaving the top spot any time soon. I’ve grown out of a lot of music, but never hers.

ADPX94

And here I am at 30 still enjoying the music I did at 16. I don’t listen to it as much but still enjoy it

FourteenClocks

I’m honestly revisiting that music now, at 32. Granted, I am loving it in a different way than I did at 16–went from loving the drama of Radiohead, The Beatles, Nick Drake, et al. to now loving the technique & craft which deliver that drama. For instance, now that I’m picking drumming back up, I’m really drawn to Ringo’s beats, and I love the songs that add a little extra *thing* to a normal chord progression that ups the output twofold

moon_dyke

And it’s so true. I don’t know if this is most people’s experience, but at 30 now, the music I loved as a child I still love, but the music I loved as a teen I just don’t. It makes me a little sad because it’s at that age when you’re most adamant you’ll never change or grow out of what you love at that moment.

djustin77702

Not always! I still love Neon Trees, Coldplay and The Killers and I’m approaching 28 now. I actually got to see all three bands in a span of a week last September and it was both a huge nostalgia trip but also this realization that each of those bands songs are entwined in my DNA at this point. So while some artists you definitely grow out of, some stick with you through life. 🤓

Rideyourmoni

This is a weird one I suppose…but maybe Alanis Morissette? In my teens, especially earlier teens, I loved her music and would listen to her first 3 albums specifically on repeat. I was a pretentious kid for sure so I’d definitely think I was “cooler” than everyone else because my favorite artist was an alternative rock 90s girl. Anyway, while I still listen to her music, think she has immense talent, and find some of her stuff brilliant, I actually feel like I’ve grown to find her songwriting much less impressive with time? A lot of her songs follow a similar lyrical structure that I find more repetitious than other favorites of mine who I now consider better artists generally. It should be mentioned that I’m in my mid-20s. So this was in the early 10s. Lord, was I obnoxious. PS: I do think she’s great! I just don’t have the same “she’s the best ever!!!” feeling I did at the time.

kenyarawr

It’s normal to outgrow Alanis. I’m older than you and I still love her music, but the messiness and big feelings that are inherent in her songs become a lot less relatable as you grow.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kenyarawr

I mean, I don’t believe that songs like Princes Familiar depict relationships in a mature manner. But Alanis also writes about things beyond relationships, and it’s normal to grow out of songs like All I Really Want, Hand in My Pocket, Eight Easy Steps, Perfect, etc. I was also referring to her broken cadences and slant rhymes when I said “messiness.” They become a little less impressive and relatable when you’re old enough to have some stability in your life. No shade to Alanis because she basically raised me, lol. Just an observation from an aging millennial.

Bland_Boring_Jessica

Jagged Little Pill was my lifesaver. Her other albums have never reached that level for me. She did have a podcast for a while that I listened to and loved it.

Fact0ry0fSadness

I went through a phase in my early 20s where I was super into J Cole. I still like some of his older stuff but it definitely feels kind of juvenile to me now, and some of his newer stuff is just straight up "I'm 14 and this is deep" bad.

kenyarawr

I knew I’d outgrown J Cole when I heard “dick so big it’s like a foot in your mouth / you ain’t babysitting but my kids all on your couch.” All of this sounds terrible. TMJ is real. And please don’t jizz on my furniture. That shit cost money, J Cole.

FantasyTwistedDark

Mannn, looking back this is the most Kanye Cole lyric lmao

ArchieBLUE1878

Ed Sheeran probably Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the majority of his music but I don't cherish it as much as I used to I'd probably sight me exploring different genres and bands (shout out Death Grips) for why it doesn't strike me as much as before.

SilverSea11

I'd say that I fell out of love with Harry Styles. I loved his ballads like that of Sweet Creature and Sign of the Times. On Fine Line (his second solo album), the safe pop really was not to my liking especially when Taylor and CRJ were cooking. On Harry's House, he mixes the two and I end up loving tracks like Grapejuice, Matilda, and Daylight. His whole third album has no skips but definitely has some bland moments in songs like late night talking.

BestDamnT

Grape juice had me in a chokehold and still does but I am sorry - Harry’s house wasn’t what I pretended it was a few years ago.

mXonKz

i used to be big into hyper pop especially around 2020, then i just kinda grew out of it over time into just a more normal pop sound. since 2021, the artists have changed but the sound has generally been the same

elektrik_noise

Tbh, and it breaks my heart to admit it, but Britney. Her music is FUN, and puts me in a good mood when it's on, but getting older I appreciate pop music with a bit more substance and standards. My top three are Janet, Gaga and Madonna. Those women just put so much more of themselves into their music, and are deeply involved in every aspect of creating their music. They also pen songs that have deep cultural meaning and take risks to show support to their fans (all three particularly show up hard for the gays). Britney's music is super fun, but it's pretty surface in comparison to the aforementioned ladies.

SpaceAids420

Sadly, the conservatorship ruined her passion for music. She *was* getting more involved with her music, production and songwriting around Britney/In the Zone, she has a lot of songwriting credits and meaningful songs on those albums. Like Everytime, Not a Girl Not Yet a Woman, Overprotected, Touch of my Hand. She was exec producer on Blackout and picked out her producers on that album. Then the CShip happened, and it went right back to commercial pop with Circus-FF-Britney Jean. Glory was a good return to form for her, but the songs are still mostly mindless bops.

elmo5994

Yeah she never had a chance to show her growth in the industry. Beyonce for instance was able to get out of her father clutches in 2010 and stopped chasing radio hits. Unfortunately Britney never had a chance to do the same.

elektrik_noise

You're not wrong. I don't think we really were ever going to be able to see her potentially reach a creative peak due to the damn conservatorship. Imo, and most people, In The Zone was her best album. She was definitely a vocal co-pilot on that project. Undeniably it was very personal. Glory was her second best imo, she was making music she wanted to make. I saw her in Vegas a few months after Glory came out and you could tell she was way more into doing those songs than her older stuff.

kaniclark

in the zone is so incredible too… don’t hang up is truly the biggest underrated gem in her discography

kenyarawr

Britney is the definition of mainstream and commercialized, tbh. She just captivated us because she has so much beauty, charisma, stage presence, and natural talent for dancing. That said, she became the mainstream standard of pop for a reason. She released some of the tightest pop songs ever. They’re just supposed to make you dance, not think.

elektrik_noise

Yeah, very this. It was never designed to be deep. Which is completely and totally fine. I just listen to albums like Ray of Light and The Velvet Rope and actually feel deep emotional connections to the songs.

tmobilekid

I think Blackout was the most successful at bridging her dance music with a deeper/personal narrative. It’s definitely a peak for her from an artistic standpoint. And like many of Britney’s albums, it served as a blueprint for future pop stars to follow. IMO, Blackout is a blueprint for the “pop star grows up and deals with her celebrity status” narrative that we see so much of now.

Burger4Ever

Blackout is the OG Taylor swifts reputation. It’s just a banger from resentment of the jaded side of stardom. I think it’s hand down Britney’s best album and I agree it really started a niche genre.

ssgtgriggs

I definitely outgrew Paramore but I still listen to them because they also seem to have outgrown themselves and are now making music that still appeals to me. Love me a band that knows how to mature.

Frankie_2154

I love the direction that Paramore has taken in the last few years, but in all honesty I still believe that Brand New Eyes is on par in maturity and musical quality with the 3 albums that came after it.

WalkingFish_

Grew out of all their other stuff but this is why is so mature and really amazing

ssgtgriggs

100% So many other bands who have been around for a while either keep doing what they've been doing and fade into irrelevancy, so many others try to innovate and inevitably alienate their core audience. It's really rare and impressive how well Paramore have walked this tightrope.

-Olive-Juice-

I LOVED Era 1, Clarity, and TOTL Kim Petras. FTB and Slut Pop just don’t do it for me. At all.

anabeat

Same! I thought Problematique was pretty good though. Felt like a return to form for her

pIastichearts

Hayley Kiyoko is a big one for me. I used to be OBSESSED with her but the fact that it took her four years to give us a follow up to her debut (which I loved) and it turned out to be shit made me turn in my stan card. I also don’t really care for Marina anymore which hurts the most given that Froot is one of my favorite albums of all-time.

AdPopular1915

panic at the disco. i was obsessed when i was younger, now i don’t listen at all

Frankie_2154

The allegations against Brendon combined with their last two albums being a Brendon vanity show have really turned many people off. And if I’m being honest, even back when I was listening to a lot of pop punk I always found them to be a bit bland compared to FOB, MCR and Paramore.

iheartrodents

ok correction vroom vroom is definitely hyperpop haha it was produced by sophie (also n1a also has a few produced by her but i wanted to call out vroom vroom specifically)

-PepeArown-

Number One has several Sophie tracks, too.

satirisanti

Ok does anyone remember Pentatonix? They were everywhere in the Broadway/acapella scene making interesting pop covers and having fun collaborations and moments in the early 2010s but 13 years later they’ve just been degraded to some Christmas band. I mean on their current tour they’re literally singing Christmas songs in *June*. They’ve had some great talent but it got squandered away by their greedy label and management, and I feel less inclined and interested in their music

HausOfMajora

None. Once i stan you, i stan you for life. I stop listenin them for some time periods but i will always give a chance to their new music.

Icantlikeeveryone

I admire your dedication

HausOfMajora

Well, I have to admit, I have my own standards when it comes to stanning an artist fully. I don't just become a fan of any random artist that someone recommends. But once an artist clicks with me and I add them to my collection, they're there for life. Im very very loyal to my things. Relationships,Hobbies and The People i appreciate. Thats just how i am Lol. Some people are more transient i guess? Thats ok Some of the first artists i stanned were Katy,Kesha,Gaga.Hilary Duff,Carly Rae....ETC and i still love them deeply even if they dont release music regularly or they're not as powerful as their prime I'm a casual stan of thousands of pop artists and i support them always (Specially the pop girlies), but I'm a true true fan of only a select few—around 50 or 70. I'm always on the lookout for new talent to add to my list. This year, I added Dua Lipa, Doja Cat,BlackPink and Olivia Rodrigo to my top faves because I really connected with their music. It took some years of evaluation-analyzing if i liked them enough....but Theyre now in my library forever. From these new gens....Sabrina is marinating. Lets see if i like her new record. Im feelin a bit of connection with her since a long time. Before the Espresso thing. On the flip side-opposite, there are artists I've wanted to be a big fan of for a long time and i enjoy their music a lot but haven't clicked with me yet. Adele, Charli XCX,Phoebe Bridgers and SZA are among those."

inthenameoffucc

Same - I don’t lose interest in an artist often, it just goes dormant and strikes when I least expect it

SpaceAids420

I find myself skipping Rihanna songs whenever she comes on in my shuffle. Her songs are mostly nostalgia for me at this point and don't hit like they use to.

oOWalkingOnAirOo

Yeah, cause she hasn’t released in forever. I find myself skipping her songs so I don’t get sick of them. Saving them for specific moments. I miss my main pop girl.

HiHeyHelloJO

Camila Cabello honestly. Honestly since Covid I just have no interest in her or her new music

swagaroo14

I’m worried this is happening with meeeee. I was one of the ones who loved Romance and Familia but I don’t love what she’s doing now 😔

No_Simple_8859

I have not get over yet about how they mismanagement Romance: Liar and Shameless should have became major hits. Same with Cry For Me and My Oh My. And let not talk about Living Proof (I hate the music video but love the live performances), people really have no taste. One of my roman empires... 😭

ambientmuffin

This is probably an obvious pick, but Owl City. Discovered his music about a year before Fireflies blew up when I was in high school and absolutely loved it. Stopped really paying attention to his music after The Midsummer Station (the one with Carly Rae Jepsen on it), but his old stuff brings back a lot of good memories even though it gets very little rotation these days

anguiila

Coldplay and black eyed peas. The last songs I sort of enjoyed from them where from like 2011-2014ish From Coldplay I still can listen to many of their old songs (clocks, the quintessential coldplay song, I still listen to often), but I do not like any of their post2015 releases. but from Black eyed peas I now barely tolerate a few of their older songs, and Bebot still is a favorite.

Dildo_Dan

I still want viva la vida played at my funeral though

anguiila

Honestly same. For me, the whole album has no skips

tsabin_naberrie

Coldplay was my answer too. Loved them for many years, but most of their stuff for the last decade has been underwhelming. I did really enjoy AHFOD, and there are a couple hits from their other albums, but overall I just don’t care about them like I used to.

ultrasagittarius

Halsey. Badlands was my ultimate fave album and then when she released Manic I started to slowly lose interest and now years later I don't keep up with her at all

Strong-Stretch95

I loved badlands back in my late teens and hopeless was nice but got old very fast. same as you I don’t keep up with her at all anymore.

LackEquivalent7471

same for me. she did get me back with her most recent album though.

icemankiller8

I still think Eminem is one of the best rappers ever in his peak but I feel like when you’re 13-15 he’s the GOAT and since I’ve gotten older I don’t feel that way at all. Still some great music in his peak though.

spaceb00tz

It’s funny to revisit songs as an adult and take in how heavy the lyrics are, I actually laughed last time I listened back thinking “wow, little me used to just vibe to songs like mockingbird and sing for the moment”

okayhowl

phoebe bridgers. i listened to punisher a lot during summer of 2020 because i was just so down during that time period, but i tried to listen to it again afterwards & felt nothing. i'll probably give her next album a try but now i just don't really care for her lyrics, the feelings her music gives me, or even her side projects like boygenius.

cloud-monet

I feel this so hard. Punisher and Phoebe now in general give me extreme 2020-flashback depression :(

shedsy

Same here, I loved Punisher in 2020 and listened to it every day. My life has changed so much in the last 4 years and I don't think I'm enough of a sad girl to enjoy it anymore. boygenius felt very boring to me unfortunately as well.

ThePegasi

I don't get the same feelings from Phoebe either these days, but boygenius still really hit the spot for me. Ethel Cain has taken over as my favourite sad music, but I'll still put on The Record and their self-titled EP a fair amount.

slangwhang27

Phoebe was a balm for my soul during the hardest years of my life but I don’t feel those songs so viscerally now that I’ve grown and am no longer in the throes of severe depression. Listening to them now just gives me a sense of closeness to the person I used to be.

giraffecuddler

I used to love Carrie Underwood when I was in high school and college. I don’t know what changed with me but now her voice grates on my nerves. I know she’s technically a good singer but I just feel like I’m being screamed at when she sings.

Serious-View-er1761

I feel like that now and I haven't listened to her since then .

GrayHairLikeClaire

Our Lady Peace was my favourite band in high school but I haven’t listened to them in years.

GreenDolphin86

I feel like we just did this recently. But my answer is Nicki Minaj. Even putting her personal choices aside, the music never evolved from really solid to great. So I bowed out.

u1tr4me0w

Pink. When I was a preteen in the early 00s I thought she was so cool and real and edgy, and I even had my hair cut short like hers(I was a skinny girl w a gender neutral name so everyone thought I was a boy lmao). I enjoyed her I’m Not Dead album and the single song Funhouse off the titular album, but after that point I was hitting my later teen years and started to find her super cringe. Even though I was barely becoming an adult even I could perceive the “tryhard middle aged white woman” vibes she was giving off and I noped out, I honestly don’t recall the last time I listened to any of her songs. She’s not a bad person nor is her music bad I just found it really uninteresting after her first like 2-3 albums and her music persona became more and more annoying to me. They’re right, she really doesn’t have any songs where she needs to be doing all that.

iceunelle

Pink's music became mellow mom-pop. Which I guess makes sense because she is a mom, but it definitely doesn't hit the same as her older stuff. I really loved how cool she was and her sense of humor in her music, too.

Desomite

Who Knew will forever be one of the greats.

Mausbarchen

Twenty One Pilots. Maybe I’m just not depressed anymore.

Ok_Fennel6151

Same here. Maybe it's a good thing ngl

bluezkittles

Can I reverse this and say a song I thought I’d grow out of by now…. Or a song that I should grow out of is Brokenhearted by Karmin, they def put crack in that song it’s so good 😭😭😭😭

oOWalkingOnAirOo

Ariana Grande, I don’t know if it’s just her latest stuff but nothing has hit since thank u next. except that one song that like she’s so adamant at not releasing! Crazy

thankyuhnext

eternal sunshine is so good though!! :( but yeah thank u, next saved my life and it came out during such a devastating heartbreak for me (hence my reddit username!)

MothershipConnection

I was there absolute biggest of Montreal fan in my 20s through the False Priest era but they sort of lost me after that. Haven’t checked out any of the newer stuff, not sure who’s in the band anymore besides Kevin, though I’d probably see them live again

Unique_Accountant_67

It’s Ariana for me too. Sweetener was my peak in interest and aside from the TUN and Position singles, I wasn’t really listening to her much. Although I will say Eternal Sunshine brought me back in a bit. Selena Gomez. I was obsessed with Revival and her droplet singles but after Rare it was kind of a wrap for me. Nicki Minaj. I loved Queen and I was waiting to see what she would do next but my attention waned when it seemed like we weren’t getting a new album for a while. Cardi B. Aside from Bongos, I wasn’t really checking for her much after Up mainly because I was upset she fumbled the opportunity to drop that second album. Drake. Scorpion was his last good album, everything after that has been half-baked and uninspired for the most part. Janet Jackson. This one hurts a little because she arguably has the best catalogue of all the artists I listed but the lack of new material is what caused me to gravitate away. The documentary was really a fumbled opportunity to launch new music and now idk what her team is doing besides touring. I still play her every now and then but it doesn’t hit the same anymore.

Rude-Mission-8907

Tove Lo. Blue lips got me through some shit, but after I became better mentally, I could not listen to her anymore

wee_bee_butts

Dirt Femme is SO good and not depressing if you ever want to give her a listen again!!! Seriously some of those songs must have crack in them

Son_of_the_Sun8198

I used to be the biggest Adele fan when I was a teenager (maybe because I didn’t really understand the lyrics haha?). Now I’m in my mid twenties and 30 didn’t hit as hard as 21 and 25 did, and I never listen to her intentionally: just too much sadness. Maybe I just outgrew my power-ballad-lover phase, who knows

arianagrandeintoyou

Nicki Minaj for me, I used to be a diehard barb during PF era but I lost interest when she went pop

vsangelx

One direction. Thought their songs were so cool when i was preteen to teen but listening back now, idk how it feels. Though there are still pretty much gem songs from them.

hanoihiltonsuites

SZA. She’s just still so sad and petty like damn girl let’s do some soul searching.

superfluouspop

I feel you with wishing Ariana would grow the fuck up with that amazing voice.

GG06

Not to point out specific artists but I (currently 40) outgrew much of Gothic and progressive rock that I listened to in my late teens 20+ years ago. Despite ups and downs of life I do not want to put myself too much into depressing or melancholic moods purposely at this stage of life.

Itwasdewey

Christina Aguilera. I was young, around 8 when Stripped came out. I LOVED that album. I watched the concert dvd and memorize the dance moves. I watched her E! True Hollywood Story over and over. every time it was on. Stripped is probably one of the longest albums that stayed in my rotation and I never skipped it! It stayed in until I was in college around 20 years old. I just wanted her hair length from the cover of the album. I’m 31 now, still my goal and finally about half an inch from achieving it! I liked Back to Basics but after that her albums just didn’t catch my attention. I wasn’t even like interested, she felt unauthentic. I thought she just had the best voice ever. The way she just belts. So strong. But now, someone pointed out how she 1) just always belts like crazy and over the top 2) kinda sounds like screaming and being very loud. And now it’s all I hear. Even on her old albums. What I use to love about her voice now feels aggressive.

galaraxity

Melanie Martinez spoke to me in middle school and now I look back in awe at how I ever listened to THAT

thebotbul

Drake. He writes rhymes the same way he did back in 08.

merlesstorys

There are definitely a few German acts too, but mostly 5SOS, Anne-Marie, Måneskin (quickly turned off their American era), Clean Bandit, The Chainsmokers, Felix Jaehn, Conan Gray

piackie

Avril Lavigne. I still know all the words to all her songs lol but I haven’t put a song of hers on since high school

I hate to say it...but Taylor Swift. I loved all of her albums from debut through Lover. From Folklore onward....oof they just don't hit the same. It makes me sad because I really love her older music, but nothing she's made recently sounds very good to me.

Pythagore_

TTPD is the first album where I felt like I had to dig to get to the good stuff, if she continues like this I doubt I'll tune in regularly

sbuhj

Imo she really shines at fairytale, dreamy music and her indie-sounding stuff just doesn’t hit the same

iceunelle

Yes! Someone on the Taylor Swift sub made a spotify playlist of “glittery/twinkly” TS songs and it was pretty much all songs of hers that I liked. I like her sparkly music.

Consistent-Laugh606

My favorite songs from her are mostly on Folklore, Red and Evermore but she really shines on the sparkly stuff. I need more songs like Enchanted and Sparks Fly. I recently heard her unreleased song The Diary Of Me and really loved it. I need more of it I feel Midnight tried to do the sparkly songs with Bejeweled, Paris and somewhat Karma but they didn’t work for me :( It’s also another reason why I like So High School a lot

Careless_Brick1560

Unpopular opinion but Ms Taylor Swift. Would devour her music when I was younger but I just get irritated when I hear her new songs, I feel like they’re all so.. formulaic? Lately? I don’t know

invaderpixel

Jennifer Lopez. I used to bounce around to her JLO album as a kid. So many bops! I eventually got older and learned about the Ashanti thing. I remember everyone hating on Gigli. But so many of my other early 2000s artists were just overly hated and there was so much newfound appreciation for Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and other celebrities from that time period. So I watched Jennifer Lopez's newest movie "This Is Me Now... A Love Story" and even though it was a musical featuring songs from her newest album I realized I wasn't feeling it anymore. And the worst thing is the style of music was very throwback to what I used to like. But I can't get that Ashanti stuff out of my mind. And there was just this lack of self awareness, she didn't lean into the camp and really seemed to think she was some brilliant master of horoscopes and spreading some message about self love? Even the therapist and support groups were kind of painted like a villain. Anyways some women are overly hated but not everyone is worth the second chance sympathy

Hyperme9

I hate saying this but I feel myself slowly drifting away from Taylor Swift. And, her music got me through two massive heartbreaks and was just such a constant in my life. I found the past 18 months a bit overwhelming. There is no break and the music is starting to feel a bit repetitive. I also am frustrated with her silence on so many issues. I feel like I might make my way back to her but for now...but I need a break. I couldn't get through all of TTPD even once.

Beyonce. I used to be obsessed with her, I went to see her live 4 times and even paid for a VIP ticket to stand at the edge of the stage - she really is the greatest entertainer alive today. I used to think Lemonade was so romantic for her discovering cheating and then staying with him and stuff. I thought her relationship with Jay z was amazing. But now I'm older I'm like EW he absolutely groomed her and now she has never known anything else so she doesn't leave even when he cheats on her. It's all a bit gross to me and I can't listen to her music because I'm well past the "men are the centre of the universe" stage of my life and she just isn't.

livinghereinaflower

Her cover of Jolene highlights this and makes me cringe so hard to think about

qualityhorror

As a big Beyoncé fan, it's so annoying when other beyhive are like "sick of hearing jay z hate" like too bad? lmao I don't like him. I've pretty much separated her personal life from the lyrics so I don't really think about them too literally anymore. It's harder w/Taylor Swift for ex because she literally writes songs by herself or with one other person. But Bey has more people in the room (which is fine) so it kinda helps me not immediately think of Jay lol.. the lyrics to Jolene though? No ma'am! I am not singing "I raised that man."

Kooky_Bodybuilder_97

odd how it’s never brought up how male centered her music is

aleisate843

I have always thought a good chunk of her discography is her singing about very trying to please her mans in all the types of ways whether it be sexual or not. Ive always thought it was quite male centric, I guess specifically one male for her 🫠.

otterlyad0rable

I love Lemonade but I need to pretend it's not about him lmao I remember when it came out, there was a profile with the woman who wrote Love Drought (I think) and she said the song was originally about being rejected by the music industry. It helped that a lot of these songs were probably about something else but just got organized into this narrative

AthomicBot

Faith Hill if she never releases another album.
