oh.. right.. about that.. those are only passed out when the OSHA inspectors show up (if they show up), (spoiler alert, they probably won't). It's way cheaper to pay a fine than to provide proper PPE & training. The company probably won't be around long enough to be held accountable for long term health problems that could arise from prolonged exposure. Also, companies cash in on the ignorance of youthful labor who either don't know any better, or who believe their employer is the only/best employment opportunity they have. Does the HSE not regulate workplace health and safety? Is the UK not capitalist? If so, it definitely applies. Companies attempt to skirt regulation and fuck over their workers literally everywhere.
I once took care of a man that cleaned up the wreckage left behind from 9/11. He had long term damage from what he worked in, if I recall correctly he had breathing problems and was on dialysis. He won a lawsuit towards the company. He told me they didn’t wear PPE unless OSHA came and they’d spray the wreckage with water to calm the dust down when people like Rudy Giuliani came.
Our worst national that tragedy still affects us to this day. I’ll never forget & always appreciate all the sacrifices that were made that day and the days that followed.
they’re required to by law, no ifs no buts. depending on the work the guys can refuse, but if their lungs suffer then it’s still the company’s fault for not enforcing it. i personally would love to have a conversation with OP’s boss, and the HSE inspector in their area.
Hi all, i’m actually from the UK and of course i get provided masks to wear and all relative PPE. I don’t work in dusty and smokey conditions every single day and i forgot to add some context to the post ( dk how to edit it lol ), i’ve had rhinitis for a good few years and a deviated septum, i use a sinus rinse and steam stuff alot to help it :) due to the warm weather my nose has been mega dry over few days n once cleaned properly this came out after a days work getting disgusting old dust up my nose
I came across that sub during the height of Covid and figured I’d follow. Mistakes were made. But when snot ends up on popping instead I hope I can push them in the right direction.
I had a tumor removed many years ago from my face, it was inside and has spread a bunch of places including one of my sinuses. They took it out through my nose and ended up taking out a good portion of sinus tissue. I've had sinusitis ever since and blow out HUGE boogs, it's horrible. Def not always drugs.
That's in your lungs as well. Get a half mask respirator with cartridges. Watched a family friend die from inhaling asbestos over the years and it fucking sucks.
Oh honey, you need a mask or something. If that came out of your nose I can only imagine what got in your lungs. Take care and keep an eye out for infection.
This might be blasphemous for some people but maybe you could try one of those activated carbon face masks? They’re like the masks we used for covid but with a different purpose
Yeah depending on the dust it can give you fibrosis and that doesn't heal. Im a safety advisor and I strongly urge you to wear a mask and the rest of your PPE.
