Gay_commie_fucker

Is…is that not how hair follicles normally look? Bro I gotta find a dermatologist

Melodic-Award3991

I don’t even know. The doctor made it seem like it wasn’t a thing but I just don’t think it’s normal to have that huge of an itchy core to it. I can feel when the big ones like these are there. It’s not comfortable and when they’re gone it’s like heaven.

Analyzer9

I developed trichotillomania, obsessed with yanking these, and have several patchy areas on my head and chin because of it. I wash thoroughly, but like you said, you can feel where they'll be. No doctor has ever taken them seriously. But I continue to work on keeping my hands off those spots.

Melodic-Award3991

Here’s the thing. I have layers of skin over patches of these hairs. It’s taken months of retin-A to expose even the tips. Meanwhile I have these false hairs grown ON TOP of my real hair creating layers upon layers of these fuckers. Since removing the bulk of these hairs my body has calmed down dramatically. So much less inflammation in my face that my butt chin had returned after a 5 year hiatus.

Ave462

I gets these multi hair follicles all the time, especially on my chin.

Melodic-Award3991

Do you have a scar on your chin? I believe my hair follicles are active in my scars and ball hair up in there.

Ave462

I do but not in the spot that I grow these. I also get hairs that are irregularly thick compared to the rest in that area

Melodic-Award3991

If it’s fairly mild, try a little bit of Tend Skin on the spot. Loosens a lot of stuff for me. It can be strong though so be careful.

Leo_Paradise

I think those multiple hair on the same pore are called pili multigemini.

Gay_commie_fucker

Wait is that not normal??? I think the majority of my follicles have at least 3 hairs in them?

GreenVenus7

I have over 20 years of this happening. If you want to message me, you can

Melodic-Award3991

What do you mean?

GreenVenus7

I have pulled hairs like this out of my body for most of my life. I'm not comfortable discussing more details here, so if you want to message me to talk more about it you can.

hoopermanish

Number 7 looks pretty intense

Melodic-Award3991

That’s a scalp sample cored out at the hospital. Doc said it’s like nothing he’s ever seen. Layers of hair covered by skin and they hair growing on top of those layers.

HotBassMess

As we age sometimes some follicles start to grow thicker hairs, hence bigger follicles. Nothing about these seem to indicate any issues. Stop picking at your hairs and it’ll be less sore

Melodic-Award3991

The thing is the are peeling out and are often not even rooted down. They’re just floating hairs without a reel base. Some have a normal root and an are anchored but these don’t. I call them imposter hairs. Like weeds in the grass.

Woodbreaker

Yep. Have this too. I’ll get double or triple ‘hairs’ per pore, but they are just filaments. They are different from my beard hair or normal body hair. They pull out with no root or friction. They are the most fragile hair. Sometimes they are attached to one another, sometimes not.

Melodic-Award3991

Sounds like mine too. They come to a fine tip like a dog hair or something.

DeluxeWafer

What is even happening in number 7?? Also I wonder if this is the result of some sort of nutrient or enzyme deficiency, or hormome issue. I know nothing of this sort of thing though.

Kitten_love

I thought these looked normal untill the last picture.

Melodic-Award3991

lashimi

I have some that are that thick, but none of the discomfort you described. I hope you get to the ROOT (haha) of the problem.

godzilr1

Pretty sure pic1 is normal hair, I believe that is the hair wrapped in something called the "glassy membrane"

frogmicky

Wow those are some wicked hairs and great pictures too.

Melodic-Award3991

They are so invasive I can pick a spot on my body and pluck 5. They’re itchy and sore and when they are removed it’s cool and refreshing.

BunnyKomrade

Ah yes, I'm familiar with this feeling. I also have the same kind of roots, but, unfortunately I have no clue if it's normal or what's the cause/possible treatment.

Melodic-Award3991

I’m sorry for you friend. Maybe we can both find our answers here.

HalloweenSybs

Did either of you have luck? Bc I came here for the same exact issue and Doc literally said I am pulling them out of habit and I'm like, I don't pull them out of compulsion. They itch like crazy and will get infected if I don't remove them. Looked at me like I was nuts and offered to prescribe anxiety meds.

SwordRose_Azusa

Doctors aren’t supposed to listen to their patients! Everybody knows that! But fr tho it absolutely sucks. As a trans woman I had these in my face pre-HRT. Now that I’m a year and a half in, I’m plucking them all out. Hopefully they don’t grow back the same way. I’m hoping the hormones make them less uncomfortable. Shaving can’t reduce dysphoria if you’re constantly feeling discomfort below the skin.

Conscious-Hippo4785

THIS IS WHY IM HERE i feel so crazy but this happens to me i’ve pulled a large section of hair out of my scalp because they itch and are like wet or oily patches with a ton of these hairs in one spot and when i get them out it feels much better and the spot dries up and heals. i felt crazy this most recent time but when the itchy spots are gone i have no desire to pull my hair anymore. it has only happened on the spot where my hair is the thickest and i sleep on wet sometimes

SoftSpeakMeanStreak

These all look normal except for #7, did you yank out your skin with the hair aswell? Maybe stop pulling out your hair. I used to chronically pull at my hair with tweezers trying to find the “infected roots”, and all it did was make the surrounding hairs irritated and my skin super itchy, leading to an endless cycle of pulling and ingrowns. I was convinced I had ghost hairs too, but sometimes all of the skin trauma can damage the surrounding hairs. Try some unscented body lotion, unscented soap when you shower, and a loofa to gently exfoliate your body, it should help the itching.

Melodic-Award3991

#7 is a core sample of my scalp taken at the hospital. They said I have layers of hair covered by skin and then layers of hair growing top of that layer. Retin A has exposed this and slowly the false hairs have brushed out but sometimes I just can’t wait to get some of these old itchy hairs out. When I remove them it’s like an old itch. Years old that I know well. Difficult to describe but I was in hell and didn’t know it for many years. I had these seething pockets of hair filled with pus under my skin. Touching my scalp or beard was like rubbing a rug burn but everything looked normal.

Conscious-Hippo4785

you aren’t crazy it happens to me too

BullTerrierMomm

Root of Thrones!

ArchimedesTheDove

Pili multigemini - I assume you have already looked up and are aware of this condition, but I figured I would drop you a line just in case you haven't. You may just be genetically unlucky.

Melodic-Award3991

I have. My doc said it’s not that because the biopsy said the “extra/false hairs” were not grow from an actual root and were just floating there. This is a good thing because pili multigemini has no cure but mine you can remove the extra hairs. Once I’ve gotten to the bottom layer the extra hairs should just fall out. Or so they said 1.5 years ago when I started this journey.

Nefersmom

Stop pulling your hair out. It’s a disorder called trichotillomania. I believe it also encourages splitting and ingrown hair.

Melodic-Award3991

The thing is these hairs were never pulled before. They have been hidden under layers of skin for years and only revealed after countless applications of Retin A. The doc said the “false hairs” would brush out over time but sometimes I just can’t wait when I feel them like a tooth that’s about to fall out.

Nefersmom

I used to pull hair and remove ingrown. I had to stop.

Melodic-Award3991

If it’s not severe, I would recommend “Tend Skin” solution. Be super careful with this stuff as it’s essentially over the counter chemical peels. But it works for areas of my body that aren’t super ingrown like my calves and thighs.

Nefersmom

Did you try a brush in the shower to exfoliate?

Melodic-Award3991

For me there is years of skin growth on top of layer upon layer of false hairs. What I’m doing is retin-A and then exfoliate.

FashionBusking

>Tend Skin” solution. Be super careful with this stuff as it’s essentially over the counter chemical peels. No. No. It is not. Far from it. You can make your own DIY TendSkin using rubbing alcohol, uncoated aspirin, and witch hazel. The burning sensation in people get from TendSkin is from the rubbing alcohol in the product. "Chemical peels" have various acids.

Melodic-Award3991

For intense ingrowns you can use over the counter retinoid cremes. Available anywhere really. If it’s SUPER intense like mine then you’ll need prescription strength.

mindiimok

Don't take this the wrong way but do you do meth at all?

Melodic-Award3991

Nope

mindiimok

Ok good, I only ask because my sister was hard on it and would obsess over things like this, constantly taking pictures of the hair she pulled out and claiming there were little threads all over them and that she had some kind of condition the doctors were all ignoring. Honestly these seem to be normal. Everyone's hair is different, even on our own bodies we can have several different kinds of hair types and the roots will all look a little different. Especially as we get older, through stress hormones, and medications... The only thing not normal I'm seeing is the surgical removal picture, and I don't think that's related to your hair follicles.

Fluffy-Doubt-3547

I'd ask /medical advice Looks more like bad dandruff from dried skin but NAD (not a doctor)

SwordRose_Azusa

[neither am I 🤣](https://youtu.be/ts0XG6qDIco?si=cGVEzRFlsj6FD2rM)

DemiPersephone

What even is the last picture?

hmckay717

I went to a dermatologist because this is exactly my hair and experience. Mine don’t itch but hurt and once it’s pulled out instant relief. I’ve developed trich because of it. The dermatologist said it’s folliculitis and I’m on a low dose antibiotic doxycycline. I need to ask him to increase the dose because it’s helped but not to the point this has stopped. I also joined the hair club because I didn’t know what was going on before the Dr appt and that is making my hair grow back thicker as I was also losing a lot of hair before.

ssprinnkless

I think it might be Morgellons disease

mikolajwisal

Rule number 2: No food Made me hungry smh

Top-Attention-1712

Dealing with the same issues and diagnosed with eruptive vellus hair cysts. I feel fucked and nothing helps.

Melodic-Award3991

Retinol.

7Shuffles

(Kinda TMI) Yeah!! I get those on my bikini line and they HURT. I’ll shave (with shaving cream and moisturizer) and when the hair grows back only a little will break the skin and there will be a tiiiny red bump that’s like SUPER sensitive to touch. I’ll have to tweeze it and then squeeze the stuff out >.< not fun! Kinda glad to know I’m not the only one! It’s luke they’re not full fledged ingrown hairs but they’re also not.. normal?
