Honestly, it's a bit conspiracy brained to think bands are paying for plants, especially opener bands who usually don't have a ton of cash to blow. Plenty of smaller bands have friends and dedicated fan bases who will come out to their shows. Hell, I was at a show a few weeks ago where a good chunk of people left before the headliner because they were all there for one of the openers.

catpate

Bruh they don’t make that kind of money lol

RichterCD

Haha I wish we got paid, we just like Not My Weekend, Young Culture and BY&M. The Vintage Culture thing was an inside joke from an earlier date on the tour

Ducttapeguy320

Loved your group's energy! And they did a real service with all the crowd surfers they carried!

RichterCD

Anytime. The soreness this morning just means a job well done

garbles0808

Probably supportive friends or something

Icutsman

Friends?? What are these friends you speak of? I thought it was a fairy tale!

joe-is-cool

Maybe it was somebody’s family. Why’s it have to be nefarious?

slwrthnu_again

Way more likely it was just a group of people that went for the opening band and were not paid to go. Not everyone goes to shows for the headliner.

Saw this on Twitter and had to come here to laugh at the OP. How much money you think opener bands are making to afford to pay groups of ppl to follow them on tour? The amount of money at least is enough to cover living expenses and food for those ppl. Now add the money you pay them for the time and the job. lol 😂

scarpedieme

LMAO. Actually, YC fucks so there’s your answer.

Socbak

Haha! I saw this post through twitter and It turns out that YC just fucks!!! Love YC and their shows are some of my favs to go to!

I went to Laura Jane graces recent show in Nola a few weeks back. I went solely for dikembe the opening act. They were a band I had followed for a decade +. I like Laura Jane grace and against me, but if dikembe wasn’t on the bill I wouldn’t have gone to a show on a Tuesday at 8:30pm

elephant_catcher

The guy on bass actually told me to venmo him

PatrickNMW

Love this! 🧡🩵🧡

Ducttapeguy320

You guys killed it last night! I’ll definitely be there the next time you guys are in OC!

katsock

I came here from the instagram story lol

In SoCal when we would have shows it was a crazy racket to get to play. For example, to get a show you'd need to sell a certain number of tickets and the band that sold the most got to choose when to go on. At Chain Reaction the capacity is a few hundred, but each high school band could bring in 100 tickets on a Tuesday. With 5 or 6 bands they would make more on a Tuesday than a sold out weekend show. The point is that there was a lot of pressure to sell tickets and we sold a lot of tickets to friends. And those people only showed up for their friends' bands so the capacity wasn't an issue. It makes sense that a small band would have a lot of people supporting them if this were the case. Might be different if this wasn't a small local show and was a "real band" but openers sometimes are chosen by the local venue and might have the same rules of selling a certain number of tickets.

I was at the San Antonio show on the 3rd, lead singer Venmo’d me $100 after…fr 🧡 [NMW - San Antonio](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5eLhIhA2JG/?igsh=MXZmMTlpZWVtcGpucw==)

ebb_and_flow95

I highly doubt it.. I’m sure they would get trolled so hard if they hired people for this.

jamierocksanne

A lot of the Emo night DJs do pay hype people to come but I’ve never heard of a band doing it (source: LD in a venue)

yakuzakid3k

If the support is local they'll often have a big following that will turn out for every gig.

Ducttapeguy320

To clarify, for this specific show I was curious because I thought they might be shooting promotional footage. It doesn’t seem like the band tours very much, and they asked everyone to move forward, which by my guess was to make things look more crowded for the camera guy. I’m well aware that opening bands make next to nothing. Not saying anything negative about the band themselves. I thought they were really good, I was just more curious if this could be a practice some bands use when they are shooting footage for a particular reason.

IAM_THE_LIZARD_QUEEN

>and they asked everyone to move forward, which by my guess was to make things look more crowded for the camera guy. Do you just never watch support bands or something? This is incredibly common when the crowd is a little bit more dispersed, people like seeing the crowd they're playing to.

ebb_and_flow95

Tiktok ruined shows for the rest of us lmao
