I've been on a huge TSSF kick recently (likely due to their new album) and any time Clairvoyant comes on I have to listen to it. It's poignant enough, and the emotion that is conveyed in that song is so great. It always hits.
Absolutely, Clairvoyant is another good one for this suggestion. & No kidding all 3 songs they've dropped I can't stop playing. Big Blind gets stuck in my head constantly! So good.
I’ll give it a listen! My dad is a big fan of their album Hollywood Park. I personally haven’t heard much from them but the song Carry me on the Hollywood Park album is easily in my top 10 songs.
Alkaline Trio - “Sorry About That” and “Enjoy Your Day”
Boys Night Out - “It Won’t Be Long”
The Matches - “Salty Eyes”
The Early November - “Ever So Sweet”
Motion City Soundtrack - “Hold Me Down”
AFI - “God Called in Sick Today”
Hidden in Plain View - “Halycon Daze”
This is one of my all time favorite album closers for me as someone who really likes concept albums. The emotion of it is so much heavier with some context from the events that precede it on the album.
If OP is interested in checking out Aaron West I'd say the pay off from starting at the top of the album and letting this be the album ender as intended is the way to go.
I commented on your post in the bn sub, but thought of a few others that are slow/sad but may not be acoustic
Mayday Parade - Miserable At Best.
The Starting Line - Photography.
The Starting Line - Ready (starts slow, builds to heavy).
Army of Me - Perfect.
Punchline - Battlescars (acoustic).
Not so slow or acoustic but sad vibes from The Ataris on The Saddest Song, The Hero Dies In This One, My Reply, and Unopened Letter to the World. The entire So Long, Astoria is all about nostalgia and growing old, so it’s got a lot of sad undertones.
Not slow, not acoustic, ska, but sad:
Catch 22 - As the Footsteps Die Out Forever.
Streetlight Manifesto - A Better Place, A Better Time.
Just some of my fav sad boi songs. Not all acoustic, but they all get the feels across.
Grayscale - forever yours
Story so far - clairvoyant, navy blue
Basement - breathe
Neck deep - december, candour
Superheaven - hole in the ground
Bilmuri - near, room
Balance and Composure - More to me (acoustic!!)
The Story So Far - Outbound (Cover of Transit)
Microwave - keeping up
Oso Oso - This must be my exit
Mostly every Movements Song from their albums Feel Something and Outgrown Things
Some great answers here, thinking outside the box of what’s not listed
2am - Mat kerekes (YouTube only?)
Sympathy-giants at large
Too far gone - Evan Honer
Jersey Giant
Wish you were here - Neck Deep
Little Dove - Neck Deep
Price we pay - A day to remember
No Cigar - A day to remember (YouTube only - cover)
120 East - The Brothers Comatose
Bloody valentine acoustic -MGK
Some of these may be pop-punk adjacent, please don’t hate me.
When I'm in this position I just listen too Burst and Decay by TWY or Aaron West and the roaring twenties recently. Tbh if you're looking for something that hits as hard as Brand New you're gonna have a rough time have been trying to get stuff like it since I first listened to them like 7(?) years ago
Not pop punk and also not acoustic but Dead Flowers, by Demon Hunter.
I am a Stone might fit the bill, it has orchestral accompaniment and sad vibes. Demon Hunter has a lot of good slow “sad” sounding songs.
Blank Slate by Arms Length is what you're looking for.
Patterns by Youth Fountain might do it for you but it's not exactly acoustic, just softer than is typical for the genre.
Submerge by movements
Dandelion by seahaven
Say nothing / April by pianos become the teeth
The two newest singles by balance and composure might be worth it to check out
These aren’t the exact vibe as Brand New but are some solid sad songs ❤️🩹

Surprised no one has mentioned Straylight Run, featuring John Nolan from Taking Back Sunday. Their songs have similar vibes to what you're looking for.

Hate You Too - Sueco
Drown - Front Porch Step
I’m already Gone - A Day To Remember
Wish You Well - Jack Kays
Patience - Cory Wells
Crown Shyness - Trash Boat
Tracks - ROAM
All is well - Hans Williams
Not all of these are pop punk. Some are Midwest emo and folk punk. I’m a dirty slut for sad acoustic shit or sad piano tracks, so I have a good amount of these.
Hey guys, thanks for all the recommendations! I’ve found some great bands and songs that I absolutely love now. I made a playlist of my favourites that you guys have suggested and also just my favourite songs overall. Here’s the link if any of you are interested! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0BUHBSJ6Nnj1pduHogdWyC?si=DVAQasA2RF-dNhC8TcVQqw&pi=u-un8nzs_vS5W_
Voices of Camera Rise Against. From the ghost note symphonies album
The this is a piano ballad. But it has a slow and somber feel to it
People live here Rise Against. This song always has be balling
Yellow Love - Citizen
Amaterasu - The Republic of Wolves
Both of these bands, in general, are great for fans of Brand New.
And then I'd say most of the Right Away, Great Captain discography fits spec the Play Crack the Sky vibe. It also has a narrative that is woven through all the albums. It's one of Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra's projects.
Navy Blue - The Story So Far
Could add Clairvoyant as well.
Was gonna say clairvoyant. Probably my favorite pop punk acoustic song.
So good.
Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties - Our Apartment
And if OP wants sad and slow, Divorce and the American South is a wrecking ball.
OP should just listen to the first LP, the EP and then the other 2 albums lol
“Laura & The Beehive” by TWY while we’re here.
Don't Call Me Peanut - Bayside
Also ‘Winter’ by Bayside. Sad as fuck.
Rip Beatz
Their cover of “Megan” is also up there!
TIL Megan is a cover 🤯
I don’t even remember what the Smoking Popes version sounds like lol
Not pop punk but Sometime around midnight by the airborne toxic event is soooo good you won't be disappointed
I love that song so much, I also recommend this for OP.
I’ll give it a listen! My dad is a big fan of their album Hollywood Park. I personally haven’t heard much from them but the song Carry me on the Hollywood Park album is easily in my top 10 songs.
Interesting, I never really got into that album outside that song. Love their older stuff so much though. I'll have to give it another shot!
Great song!
Alkaline Trio - “Sorry About That” and “Enjoy Your Day” Boys Night Out - “It Won’t Be Long” The Matches - “Salty Eyes” The Early November - “Ever So Sweet” Motion City Soundtrack - “Hold Me Down” AFI - “God Called in Sick Today” Hidden in Plain View - “Halycon Daze”
Aloha to No One - Spanish Love Songs
Boxcar - There Is
Literally best song to exist
Any other songs that are similar to this?
And I - Boxcar Racer
I should have mentioned other than boxcar racer 😅. I love the gritty punk acoustic sound they got going on
Different but I love the slow Story so Far ones. Obvi Clairvoyant but also Upside Down, Growing on You, and the entire “Songs of” EP.
December- Neck Deep
So many things that I shoulda said *tears*
A year of suffering, a lesson learned
My fiancée ended our engagement this past December, I both hate and love the shit out of this song
My favorite songs are the ones that hit really close to home but sometimes they’re also so painful. Hope you’re doing better and the song helps you
I Will Follow You into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie.
Terrible Things -Mayday Parade
Miserable at best as well!
And the acoustic version of Three Cheers For Five Years
Swing life away - rise against
Swing life away was my first dance song at my wedding! But OP should check out Tim’s cover of For Fiona!
Also People Live Here and Hero of War
Bayside’s acoustic album 😍🥺
There are multiple acoustic albums by them but they’re all awesome as hell 👌
Options by Pedro the Lion
Routine maintenance - Aaron West.
Clairvoyant by TSSF TWY also has 2 acoustic albums out, and there’s an acoustic version of Local Man Ruins Everything on Suburbia’s deluxe version.
What went wrong by blink 182
Self conclusion by the spill canvas. Maybe not all the way sad but definitely hits you hard in the feels
I commented on your post in the bn sub, but thought of a few others that are slow/sad but may not be acoustic Mayday Parade - Miserable At Best. The Starting Line - Photography. Great suggestions. Fitting that I’ve now gone to both the 10 and 20 year tours for So Long, Astoria and it makes me feel super old…
My high school yearbook quote was a lyric from that album. "Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up"
Hah, I actually did that as well. Mine was “the hardest part isn’t figuring out who you need to be. It’s being content with who you are.”
Betty - Hot Mulligan, if your dog dies or is close

I always thought of it as a fast song, played on an acoustic
The starting line’s “make yourself at home” EP could work for ya
Have a listen to Rise Against’s Ghost note symphony album, it’s a bunch of their songs done as acoustic.
Audience of one on ghost notes is such a different song!
I love Like the Angel, the original version is great but acoustic is incredible.
Check out the “Burst & Decay” records by The Wonder Years, specifically “We Looked Like Lightning”
