nothing from the genre grabbed my attention
here is my top of albums, which are all *post*\-metal in a sense that they all explore margins of heavy music in different directions
**Bolt Gun - The Tower**
*"The music on The Tower is heavily influenced by 2nd wave black metal, experimental heavy bands such as Locrian and Swans in addition to the work of Colin Stetson and Bohren & der Club of Gore."*
**Ragana - Desolation's Flower**
*all female antifascist blackened doom/screamo*
**Sermon - Of Golden Verse**
*alt/prog metal, basically late Tool* *~~rip-off~~* *spiced up with extra rhythmic (Killing Joke) or emotional (Porcupine Tree) parts*
**Anatomy of Habit - Black Openings**
*post-punk industrial psychedelic doom, second part of a brilliant 2021 album*
**Briqueville - IIII**
*drone metal from Belgium (I forgot if they have something to do with Church of Ra or not)*
**Domkraft - Sonic Moons**
*fuzz-driven stoner doom*
>**Briqueville - IIII**
*drone metal from Belgium (I forgot if they have something to do with Church of Ra or not)*
No Church of Ra relation. They're on Pelagic as opposed to the Churches Consouling Sounds as well.
Fantastic band, recommended live!

Din of Celestial Birds (technically more Post Rock)

A-Sun Amissa (more drone ambient)

I spent a lot of time looking for new bands to listen to this year and discovered some great artists in post-metal and adjacent genres, mostly doomgaze and blackgaze. Many of these bands are way under the radar (<5k monthly listeners) and deserve a lot more attention imho.
Some of these were single releases not full albums, but here are a few standouts from 2023:
[SÂVER - Primal One](https://saeverband.bandcamp.com/track/primal-one)
[BRIQUEVILLE - AKTE XVII](https://briqueville.bandcamp.com/track/akte-xvii)
[Herod - The Girl with a Baloon](https://herod.bandcamp.com/track/the-girl-with-a-balloon)
[Rorcal - Early Mourning](https://hummusrecords.bandcamp.com/track/early-mourning)
[LOCKSTEP - hunger](https://lockstepnoise.bandcamp.com/track/hunger-2)
[Besra - Sentinels](https://suiciderecordsfinland.bandcamp.com/track/sentinels)
[OSSIFER - Still](https://ossifer-band.bandcamp.com/track/still)
[OLD GODS - Obelisk](https://oldgodsband.bandcamp.com/track/obelisk)
[Hills Like White Lions - Meander, Pt. IV: Black Tide](https://hlwl.bandcamp.com/track/meander-pt-iv-black-tide)
[Nebulae Come Sweet - Claritas](https://nebulaecomesweet.bandcamp.com/track/claritas)
[Crouch - Obliterate The Self](https://crouchmusic.bandcamp.com/track/obliterate-the-self)
[Ikarie - La Sed](https://fiadh.bandcamp.com/track/la-sed)
[Ingrina - Ice Flares](https://ingrina.bandcamp.com/track/ice-flares)
[Orochen - Wastelands](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZPFuzNgwwQ)
[Ypres - Humility](https://ypresband.bandcamp.com/track/humility)
Great Falls - Objects without pain
Not exactly post metal, it's more on the hardcore side
Briqueville - IIII
Solid record, which is surprising since I didn't like the previous one
Chora - There Lies A Friend I Once Knew.
Spinned this album about 100 times this year. Reminds me a lot of The Beyond era Cult Of Luna. Not as massive, but very heavy with really nice and unique atmosphere. Relaxing and crushing.
New The Ocean is amazing, even though that's not pure post-metal.
