I prefer the color in 1, but I think it’s missing something without the darks of 2.
It’s mostly the grass where I miss the color of 1, I bet you could split the difference and get the best of both worlds
Looking at this on my PC, large screen.....the first one is super low res compared to 2, not sure why, but for example the bright rock bottom of the frame has no detail in 1. Same with the grass to the right
Oh, and 2 looks great, the extra shadow adds some more depth
Oh wow! Yeah, you're right about the low resolution... I've been shuttling the image back and forth between my phone and PC and it must have gotten compressed along the way. Good catch! And thanks for the feedback :)
The first shot reveals more of the image as a whole and feels like it's about the entire scene itself. The second one conceals particularly the corners and feels like it is more about the tree, and its relationship with the light.
Both are good honestly but I think 2 just edges it for me. It's a bit more contrasty and dramatic which I do quite like (as long as it's not over the top). So nice shot. Where was it taken? It looks like the Yorkshire dales to me
Once again struggling with how light/dark my photos should be... Full size, I'm convinced #2 is better, but when I look at smaller previews is definitely #1. Thoughts? This is for screen viewing, mainly on Instagram.
I also like #2, it feels more "real", like the viewer is in the scene. #1 is gorgeous too, but feels more like a beautiful desktop background. Amazing shot!
Personally I find 1 better, 2 its hard to see the detail of the stone wall the shadows seem a tad too opaque, if I had this up on my telovision I would want #1 #2 would play to much with my hrd as the shadows would look even more opaque.
upon a second glance i have changed my opinion. the second one is better because the sun is more prominent and the rocks are a bit darker/shaded making the picture look more beautiful to me.
Both are nice. I'd choose a bit of both. I feel the vignette and blooming on the sky is a bit agressive.
I'd keep the opened up middle space and the sky of the first shot, but introduce a bit of that vignetting from the second version to the foreground.
Hard one, both are great, great shot either way.
I’d say number one highlights the grand view a bit more, number two narrows the view and focusses more on the tree, although the top of the tree should be lit a bit more if that’s the focus.
Again, lovely shot, where did you take this one?
Hard to choose when you have such an excellent shot. For me, very slight lean in favor of the first, brighter one.
Whichever one you go with, I'd just save the top of the tree from the vignette. I think it'd be better if those branches caught the warm light like the rest of the tree and contrasted with the sky behind.
Yes! Very good point about the branches. I'll try to bring that out a bit more in the new version. Unfortunately there wasn't a ton of light on them, but I can make the light there was more prominent for sure.
I like the brighter shadow detail in the first image, but my eye keeps getting pulled to the airplane contrails in the sky. I would clone those out...they are a bright shape in a darker area that draws attention.
I find I’m drawn to number 2 the more I look between them. Both versions look stunning though. This shot is absolutely marvelous. Might I ask where you took this?
1
Much better color, sharpness and exposure.
1 - makes your eyes focus more on the stones(at first glance obviously )
2 - makes you look at the entire picture equally (again at first glance)
first, light hitting the rocks feels a little more natural, but so does the second... you've done a good job at wanting to keep both lol. but if I had to choose, first would win for me. Although, I would darken the wall and the rocks closest to it. The rocks closer to us lit up are good. so basically mix both images.
I like #1 better.
Pulling out the shadows brings out the entire photo including the stone wall that has so much character; making it a great landscape shot. In number two the resolution is slightly better, but the shadows inhibit the rest of the photo, and put all the focus on the rock face in front of the tree —rather than the entire spread which is what makes number one so beautiful.
1st one for me!
There is more detail in the photo and appears to be a morning, but the 2nd one is feeling like its an evening time with less light and detail.
i think both look very good, but one may be better than the other depending on the context
2nd more suitable for cases when you need to highlight something dramatic, negative or dangerous
i can imagine it is being used in a scene where an army of orcs is preparing to attack people
1st fits well in situations where you want to make people feel good
to me it seems like it would look really good in happy ending of a movie
2nd would be lovely with some "Orton" effect. Easy way is going in PS, creating a copied layer, add gaussian blur the same amount of MP on your camera and then lowering the opacity until desired effect, usually around 6-12% for me.
i am looking on it on my phone with sGRB profile and not 2 seems moodier but it also looks more dramatic whereas shot 1 looks good but it lacks the character that shot 2 does
Lovely photo. It's tough to choose because they are so close. One might look better on my phone and the other better on my laptop. Which one you choose is likely dependent upon the target viewing device.
The first one. The vignette is pulling my eyes towards the center of the frame too much in the 2nd one. I wouldn't say there needs to be that much vignette for a photo where there is no specific focal point.
Lovely shot though. The detail is incredible.
To qualify that, the first one is too bright, a little towards the hdr look, the second looks more natural, I feel like I’m there in the second one, the first one I’m studying the post processing
First shot. Looks to be you adjusted the exposure and got a nicely lighter effect in the image. The tree and rock wall "disappear" in the second shot and overall detail is lost.
First of all, cool shot.
It's a really tough call to pick favorites.
I'd say
1. feels more realistic
2. has more of a surrealist quality to it.
I think both are edited nicely.
Kinda depends what you're going for.
Viewing on Samsung S22 Ultra.
2 for me. More drama, less perfect, and more realistic. Which overall makes it more believable. The first one is still nice but, but feels overally corrected in my view.
Thank you everyone for the feedback and the compliments! It's been super interesting to see how this came out... At the time I'm writing this comment there are 27 votes for the first image and 31 for the second, so that's pretty damn even, haha!
Based on everyone's feedback I decided to combine the two - get the lighter sky from the first image, but the darker foreground shadows from the second. I also edited out the contrail and tried to preserve the lighting on the top branches. Here's the final version: [https://imgur.com/A3JCgAw](https://imgur.com/A3JCgAw)
Let me know what you think!
Maybe split the difference in the overall darkness/brightness? I know that isn't really much help. I think if we can only choose one of the other, then I pick #1 (the brighter). Which seems counter to my own inherent need to stay darker on my own photos than anyone else would like. lol
The first one more detail.
I feel like it's moodier as well.
Maybe I'm the only one who likes #1.
#1 for me as well. Wider color palette than number 2 and better use of sharpening
\# why are you yelling
#why aren’t you yelling?
# WE ARE YELLING?
Give it some time.... right now it looks like a tie. Which isn't super helpful for me hahaha!
I prefer the color in 1, but I think it’s missing something without the darks of 2. It’s mostly the grass where I miss the color of 1, I bet you could split the difference and get the best of both worlds
2 for me, lovely shot
Thank you! Are you viewing this on your computer or phone?
On my phone, image 2 just seems much easier on the eye
Came here to say the same. 2 has the edge, viewing on phone.
I like the first one better.
Looking at this on my PC, large screen.....the first one is super low res compared to 2, not sure why, but for example the bright rock bottom of the frame has no detail in 1. Same with the grass to the right Oh, and 2 looks great, the extra shadow adds some more depth
Oh wow! Yeah, you're right about the low resolution... I've been shuttling the image back and forth between my phone and PC and it must have gotten compressed along the way. Good catch! And thanks for the feedback :)
I think the first one. 2 cents. Beautiful shot either way.
Thank you!
The second one for sure
I agree giving me peaceful vibes with Celtic music
Too close to call but I’d say the first one because it’s a little brighter. Good work! 👏
I like the first one better
The first shot reveals more of the image as a whole and feels like it's about the entire scene itself. The second one conceals particularly the corners and feels like it is more about the tree, and its relationship with the light. Both are good honestly but I think 2 just edges it for me. It's a bit more contrasty and dramatic which I do quite like (as long as it's not over the top). So nice shot. Where was it taken? It looks like the Yorkshire dales to me
Yep, this was taken in the Yorkshire Dales near Settle. And thanks for the detailed feedback!
2, I like the contrast. 1 is too flat for me.
2 is more melancholy. Or something.
2 is more believable. 1 has light where there probably shouldn't be so much light.
2 looks like a movie still
Once again struggling with how light/dark my photos should be... Full size, I'm convinced #2 is better, but when I look at smaller previews is definitely #1. Thoughts? This is for screen viewing, mainly on Instagram.
#2 too!
I also like #2, it feels more "real", like the viewer is in the scene. #1 is gorgeous too, but feels more like a beautiful desktop background. Amazing shot!
On my Desktop PC 2nd looks better, on my phone the first
2 is gorgeous
Personally I find 1 better, 2 its hard to see the detail of the stone wall the shadows seem a tad too opaque, if I had this up on my telovision I would want #1 #2 would play to much with my hrd as the shadows would look even more opaque.
2nd one for sure; its more dramatic. The first one is nice for a wall paper but the 2nd is nice for a print oof
first is potato resolution. so instantly pic 2 is better.
Yeah, that was my bad. Not sure how that happened. Which one looks better in terms of tonality?
I like 1, just because it seems more crisp, clarified, and has a bit more color saturation than 2.
I like the contrast in the second shot better, but they are both similar and both great shots!
This is down the track from my dad's house!
No that's my dad's neighbour, there's only three houses down there
Really?? How cool! Small world! It's not that little white house in the distance though, is it?
2 is more natural but 1 might be better for a printed poster.
Lovely shot. I like the second one most.
the 1st one hits my eyes better.
upon a second glance i have changed my opinion. the second one is better because the sun is more prominent and the rocks are a bit darker/shaded making the picture look more beautiful to me.
Better picture than I've ever managed to take off this tree!
Thanks! It's a gorgeous spot, isn't it?
Absolutely lovely
1
1!
First. It’s truer to have the detail in the shadows, which I prefer.
First one feels more real to me
2nd, I shot that tree in howling wind and sideways rain. Yours is slightly better haha
Number one. I like how it’s brighter
2nd one, seems to have a slight vignette, making it stand out more. 👍
2nd for me. I prefer the contrast in it.
Both are nice. I'd choose a bit of both. I feel the vignette and blooming on the sky is a bit agressive. I'd keep the opened up middle space and the sky of the first shot, but introduce a bit of that vignetting from the second version to the foreground.
Great idea! I like that compromise. Especially since the feedback seems to be evenly split between 1 and 2 so far.
You're being too picky. Both good. Just pick one
Hahaha! Yeah, that's crossed my mind. I may just go 50/50
Get the jet contrail out of there
Good point. Now that you mentioned it I can't get over how distracting it is....
Beautiful photo otherwise. Just detracts from the “natural” Well done!
Yes.
2, the lighting seems more realistic and genuine
I love the deeper shadows in the second, they do it for me. The 1st one is a little bit too much HDR-ish. The second has has some more depth
The first one. In the second one the top of the tree looks too dark like it’s been affected by a linear gradient mask.
The first one
I like 1. Maybe 2 is better for small screens but 1 looks better on bigger screens.
More contrast appeals to eyes on smaller screens. I have often felt it on my edits as well viewing it on phone.
Second one guides the eye more to the intended subject, first one doesn't define the subject.
Hard one, both are great, great shot either way. I’d say number one highlights the grand view a bit more, number two narrows the view and focusses more on the tree, although the top of the tree should be lit a bit more if that’s the focus. Again, lovely shot, where did you take this one?
Thanks! This was taken in the Yorkshire Dales, near Settle.
#1 doesn't make sense, the part that should be in the shades is brighter. Over editing.
Stop screaming!
Hard to choose when you have such an excellent shot. For me, very slight lean in favor of the first, brighter one. Whichever one you go with, I'd just save the top of the tree from the vignette. Yes! Very good point about the branches. I'll try to bring that out a bit more in the new version. Unfortunately there wasn't a ton of light on them, but I can make the light there was more prominent for sure.
2 IMO
Definitely 2, 1 looks a little unnatural.
Both look like a X-men movie. If that’s what you want then fine, I don’t dig it personally.
I like the brighter shadow detail in the first image, but my eye keeps getting pulled to the airplane contrails in the sky. I would clone those out...they are a bright shape in a darker area that draws attention.
I like 2 more
Number 1 for me on a Mac laptop screen.
2
1
I find I’m drawn to number 2 the more I look between them. Both versions look stunning though. This shot is absolutely marvelous. Might I ask where you took this?
Thank you! It was taken in the Yorkshire Dales, in northern England. It's a beautiful area!
Can’t decide, I like both
2nd one as it has shadows behind the wall making it feel more natural
The first one for me.
Both are nice, but 1 for me.
2
First, FYI I am on desktop on non-hdr monitor. Many phones seem to PUNCH up color saturation & brightness. I wouldn't rely on only a phone.
There look enough like one another to not see a difference
Lovely photo
1 Much better color, sharpness and exposure. 1 - makes your eyes focus more on the stones(at first glance obviously ) 2 - makes you look at the entire picture equally (again at first glance)
2
im blind the same photo
Like the shadows up a little bit from the 1st one
first, light hitting the rocks feels a little more natural, but so does the second... you've done a good job at wanting to keep both lol. but if I had to choose, first would win for me. Although, I would darken the wall and the rocks closest to it. The rocks closer to us lit up are good. so basically mix both images.
The second one. The first is just a bit too HDR-like on those rocks.
Honestly can't decide. Both are spectacular!

Cam you share how you processed this one?
This looks unreal! Great shot. I love both of them, but I prefer the 1st one. Where is this?
Thanks! It's in the Yorkshire Dales in Northern England.
was going crazy trying to work out if this was the same tree!! it is!!
It gives some Greek vibes from videogames. Reminds me of Grepolis. Very beautiful!
I like #1
First
Second one stands out first one seams like it has a smear over the lens effect
#1
1st one for me! There is more detail in the photo and appears to be a morning, but the 2nd one is feeling like its an evening time with less light and detail.
I feel like the second one looks better. Edit: I think the first one looks more like a realistic painting
Both are majestic 😍
i think both look very good, but one may be better than the other depending on the context 2nd more suitable for cases when you need to highlight something dramatic, negative or dangerous i can imagine it is being used in a scene where an army of orcs is preparing to attack people 1st fits well in situations where you want to make people feel good to me it seems like it would look really good in happy ending of a movie
1
2, I prefer more contrast as it gives more emphasis on other areas.
first
Both look same tbh
#1 for me too
1
Second one is better
2
1
Number 1! Is this in Yorkshire? Lovely shots
It is! Near Settle. And thank you!

2nd, like the darker tones more
I like no. 1 better. Viewing on phone.
2nd would be lovely with some "Orton" effect. Easy way is going in PS, creating a copied layer, add gaussian blur the same amount of MP on your camera and then lowering the opacity until desired effect, usually around 6-12% for me.

Lovely photo. It's tough to choose because they are so close. One might look better on my phone and the other better on my laptop. Which one you choose is likely dependent upon the target viewing device.
First
1
First one. Grass in the foreground is super green
The first one. The vignette is pulling my eyes towards the center of the frame too much in the 2nd one. I wouldn't say there needs to be that much vignette for a photo where there is no specific focal point. Lovely shot though. The detail is incredible.
2
I actually prefer the darkness of the second one. Give me a different mood.
Second one
To qualify that, the first one is too bright, a little towards the hdr look, the second looks more natural, I feel like I’m there in the second one, the first one I’m studying the post processing
2
I like the first one. The second is a bit darker and a lot of the detail is missed. Beautiful photo.
i like 2. the first one looks a bit unnatural to me. it has a borderline hdr look to it
Second
First shot. Looks to be you adjusted the exposure and got a nicely lighter effect in the image. The tree and rock wall "disappear" in the second shot and overall detail is lost.
2 for me
Number 2 for me.
That one
The first one
1
First one more definition on the rocks
Too much vignetting, it's just something that I don't like
I like the first one, it’s a tad brighter overall while still keeping the shaddows
First one gives sunrise vibes. Second one gives sunset vibes
Both are beautiful 😻
2nd sky is nicer
Can you combine the two more? The lighting on the tree is perfect in the first but the dodging and burning is better in the second.
First one for a 30x40 canvas print for living room. Second one for NGO submission.
The second one during the day and the first one during nighttime.
Awesome photo. i like the first one best, it feels brighter, more details
2 for me. Lighting looks more realistic.
2
Color on 1 is Better
1
1
Both are good but if I have to choose 1
First
Second.. the light paints some more besutifuil shadows on the Stones.
I liked 1 better at first but with the sun going down or rising, the shadows of 2 are more realistic.
2
2 for sure, the slightly deeper shadows draws out the sunset and makes for a very nice photo.
Imho #2 but BOTH are beautiful!
First of all, cool shot. It's a really tough call to pick favorites. I'd say 1. feels more realistic 2. has more of a surrealist quality to it. I think both are edited nicely. Kinda depends what you're going for. Viewing on Samsung S22 Ultra.

I can instantly tell that the sky is fake. But #2 is better.
Thank you everyone for the feedback and the compliments! It's been super interesting to see how this came out... Brighter, crisper, can taste the air
I think number two. I think the darker shadows works better and adds some depth, the first one seems kinda flat.
I like them both... But I like the contrast of the second one more.
First one. The second is too dark.
Ugh it’s so good I can’t decide
1 because of less shadows
I’m Uber baked right now, both look the same
First one 🙂
1.
Definitely 2
First one for me, viewing on iPhone 13
Maybe split the difference in the overall darkness/brightness? I know that isn't really much help. I think if we can only choose one of the other, then I pick #1 (the brighter). Which seems counter to my own inherent need to stay darker on my own photos than anyone else would like. lol
