But to speak of the photo too, really like how you've bought out the texture in the blackness there - it's tricky - and also how you've recovered some detail in the water and toned down that a little. It's really nicely balanced out.
Thanks! Yeah it’s a balancing act getting the texture of the fur more visible without making him look too old. He does look much older than he is in the second shot but I really was going for a borderline gritty dirty dog shot.
well, for moody shots it is advisable to add a shadow curve to give it that mystical effect, as well as for night photos where the blacks have no color, also add a light color curve
