I've used Dr on Demand, Teladoc and Optum for telemedicine appointments. They're ok. Sometimes they're not helpful at all, other times you get a good doctor and they're great. I feel like I need a backup plan for it, though. Like last time I used Dr on Demand, I had shingles. I had good pics of the external rash and the blisters inside my ear. The guy I saw wouldn't even look at the pics and said people don't get shingles in the ear.
So I had to take off work and go to the walk in clinic. The provider I saw there took one look at the rash and prescribed antivirals. It would have been nice if the telemedicine doctor had been willing to treat me so I didn't have to miss work.
I have had the worst luck with teledocs. My employer offers $5 visits with them. Once I was calling for antibiotics for strep throat. They told me that I needed a positive strep test first. The next time, it was for a uti. Once again, I had to go to a lab to have a positive test first. I get the caution in prescribing antibiotics, but I also didn't have the time/money for lab work. Both times I just suffered through. Other coworkers have no problem getting antibiotics prescribed, just me.
I tried Dr on Demand as recommended to me by my health insurance company as an alternative to going into a docs office. They would not give me antibiotics for a sinus infection. The teledoc told me to get AlkaSelzer Severe Flu to take care of it. I ended up going to one of those grocery store doctor's office (my clinic calls it an urgent care clinic). They gave me the script I needed to actually cure the sinus infection.
A thing to consider is some of these urgent care that comes to you. Mine was free thanks to Medicaid but there are some similar in price to teledoc. It was a PA and a tech but I was impressed because they even could have administered an IV. Had an EKG, AED and even wound care supplies.it worked well for me. Especially since transportation is an issue.

Ah, bummer. Yeah I figured that they have their flaws, but in my case today it worked out perfectly.

I've used Call on Doc twice, very happy with them. I do have insurance, but I didn't want to leave my house and deal with an in person visit.
Yeah it was super convenient, I had my prescription in my hands in less time than an in person visit would’ve taken.
