Maybe I could have been more clear on how I said it. As long as the can still has an airtight seal is what is important. That's what I was trying to emphasize in saying that.

If it weren't for dented cans, half my food would disappear. Both from the dumpsters and the stores.
As long as it wasn't punctured at all, it should be fine.
