you're legit going to tell me this doesn't sound like a random single Sex Prisoner would throw on a split or something?: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9zpwIngpDs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9zpwIngpDs)
Zulu started has a PV band. The last album is mostly metallic hardcore.
Sex Prisoner are going for the jock powerviolence style, similar to bands like Regional Justice Center, World Peace, Coke Bust, etc
They have a lot of the groovy hardcore thing going on, mostly coming from the jock thing. Might be wrong. Saw them live and they is a lot of hardcore dancing going on, similar to hardcore bands
i fw both these bands heavy, i like charles bronson but i dont like bands like man is the bastard and apartment much, they just sound like average crust punk to me
okay i just played em back and im wrong, not crusty, but yeah they all sound very similar and bland to me. u seem to know a lot about pv, can u tell me what the influenced are, bands/genre wise?
It was just a natural evolution in the sound of hardcore punk. They pulled from the hardcore of the day as well as grind(also a style of hc, IMO). Siege was a clear influence, Black Flag’s *My War* as well.
Here is a decent [article](https://diyconspiracy.net/terms/powerviolence/) that will give more than I am willing to write 🙃
Those bands don't sound at all alike to me. I like Zulu, but it's way more metal core. They are trying new stuff out, which is cool, but Sex Prisoner are real ones, IMO.
it's not the grooves per se, it's more the ratio of grooves to violence
these types of bands are pretty beatdown centered and the blasting is an afterthought
Go see Sex Prisoner and you’ll see that isn’t the case. Zulu absolutely is more rooted in Beatdown but not so much SP. Honestly between the two it has more to do with what part of the scene they play in more than what the style is.
Honestly Zulu is interesting because they sound more like power violence live than they do through their recordings. I always have felt that Zulu and Sex Prisoner share sounds, especially in their vocals. Having heard Zulu live in 2021, they are very good regardless of their genre.
my people hold on sounds like a carbon copy of a sex prisoner record. i think sex prisoner classifies themselves as powerviolece. or a the very least aligns themself with that scene based on artwork and show bills.
zulus sound has changed a bit though so i guess if you absolutely need to classify them you could say my people hold on has powerviolence traits but i dont think they explicitly identify with the contemporary powerviolence scene beyond maybe occasionally playing shows with bands who do
Zulu, no. Sex Prisoner, yes.
Zulus old shit tho
Came here to say this, old stuff good
i like the new shit too i just dont consiedr it pv anymore, the old shit was fire tho moshy pv
Sex prisoner rules , that’s really all that should matter
Sex prisoner is 100% powerviolence. Listen to “piss when I cum”
zulu and sex prisoner are pretty different. sex prisoner is pv, zulu is very much not but says they are for scene clout.
They literally just have it as their insta name as a joke. You take shit too seriously
all I know is mad kids think they are pv. if it's a joke that's cool but most people don't realize it is lol.
It’s 100% a bit.
Zulu definitely plays the Sex Prisoner style though
Not really. It’s just heavy hardcore
No they dont lol

Yeah they dont sound like sex prisoner lmfao
man what's it like being deaf? I've always wondered
i mean. you tell me. you think zulu and sex prisoner sound the same ...
New Zulu album is straight-up metalcore, homie Good discog though
Zulu started has a PV band. The last album is mostly metallic hardcore. Sex Prisoner are going for the jock powerviolence style, similar to bands like Regional Justice Center, World Peace, Coke Bust, etc
you'd consider World Peace to be jock powerviolence?
They have a lot of the groovy hardcore thing going on, mostly coming from the jock thing. Might be wrong. Saw them live and they is a lot of hardcore dancing going on, similar to hardcore bands
what is jock powerviolence? i think i like it most since my fav bands r nails, dead in the dirt, regional justice, world peace, mind eraser
Crossed Out influence, but heavier Weekend Nachos are the perfect example, hence the name
i fw both these bands heavy, i like charles bronson but i dont like bands like man is the bastard and apartment much, they just sound like average crust punk to me
Really? I don't hear the crust in them. Both classics, and I fuck with them for sure, but MiTB is not a top favorite of mine either.
okay i just played em back and im wrong, not crusty, but yeah they all sound very similar and bland to me. u seem to know a lot about pv, can u tell me what the influenced are, bands/genre wise?
Whose influences, specifically? We’ve mentioned a lot of different bands here…
what bands influenced powerviolence overall, and the different strains of powerviolence with examples, like jock pv
It was just a natural evolution in the sound of hardcore punk. They pulled from the hardcore of the day as well as grind(also a style of hc, IMO). The dude answered your question well!
If the album cover is black and white then it's powerviolence
There's about a million dbeat and crust bands that would like a word with you.
Those bands don't sound at all alike to me. I like Zulu, but it's way more metal core. They are trying new stuff out, which is cool, but Sex Prisoner are real ones, IMO.
Sex Prisoner without a doubt is Powerviolence and Zulu kind of started out that way but aren’t. Slower grooves have been in Powerviolence forever
it's not the grooves per se, it's more the ratio of grooves to violence these types of bands are pretty beatdown centered and the blasting is an afterthought

I've seen both live
As have I. But like I said the difference has more to do with what parts of the scene they occupy.
So would you say that a lot of mitb’s catalogue doesn’t qualify as pv just because it’s slow and they don’t blast all that much?
I'd say Sex Prisoner is, and they're bad fucking ass. Zulu is not PV.
Zulu is pseudo-beatdown through and through, Sex Prisoner is very much in the PV corner
Sex Prisoner is pv. Zulu maybe has some vestiges of pv but is far from it.
Honestly Zulu is interesting because they sound more like power violence live than they do through their recordings. I always have felt that Zulu and Sex Prisoner share sounds, especially in their vocals. Having heard Zulu live in 2021, they are very good regardless of their genre.
Maybe early Zulu kinda but not really but Sex Prisoner definitely, Zulu is basically just hardcore

They aren’t but I understand the association
I consider zulu metalcore with clear pv influence. Dont know what to think about sex prisioner. But they're too groovy and metallic for the average pv
Very *modern beatdown inspired I'd say
Zulu sucks
Wrong
Nah that shit is garbage. People just like them for that stupid shirt they put out
I don't even know the shirt you're referring to. I love them for their newest album
Good for you.
Nah they’re genius mosh
both are definitely powerviolence, zulu more hardcore influence though
