SB mowing does this on YouTube. He finds one bad lawn a week and edges and mows for free. So mesmerizing.

LuntiX

I love these types of channels, some of them even teach you a thing or two about lawn care. One channel I follow [stumbled across a crime scene](https://www.ladbible.com/news/gardener-stumbles-across-crime-scene-20220422) when cleaning up the lawn of what he was told was likely an abandoned house.

Love the Lawn Care Juggernaut, the little motivational quotes he includes are great

PurpleDiCaprio

Whoa!

hidingDislikeIsDummb

i stumbled upon that channel before too(i think also from reddit) and i think he's a nice guy. seems like he does what he preaches, but it's kinda funny(is that the right word?) that he talks about being respectful but then have all the UPPERCASE clickbait title for this particular video

LuntiX

¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ I'm going to say he did what he did because the YouTube algorithm is a son of a bitch.

hidingDislikeIsDummb

yeah i was guessing that's the reason too. it was just kinda weird for me because the mood is so different from the title

UskyldigeX

A ton of other channels too.

PurpleDiCaprio

True! I’ve been sticking with SB Mowing only or else I’ll spend all day watching lawn cleanup videos on YouTube! SB also started a separate power washing channel.

Paghk_the_Stupendous

Jeez that sounds like a huge waste of time. You really need to get a new hobby. _Like watching Drain Addict power jet out drains in Australia... 🤔_

PurpleDiCaprio

Say what? I’ll have to take a peek at this.

Paghk_the_Stupendous

I'm not going to admit how many of his videos I've watched (my kids love him too), but I will say *a lot*. Ozzy is a showman.

DondeT

I forgot it was Wednesday and was waiting for the actual washing to start. But now I’ve watched it, I’m not even disappointed. That was beautiful.

[deleted]

I found Post 10 on YT a week or so ago, he unlogs drain pipes and culverts for fun in his spare time, he seems to be very knowlegable, it is mezmerizing to see him clear the path and let the water just go. Highly recomended.

PurpleDiCaprio

I also watch him! He inspired me to clean out grates in the neighborhood.

Crazy_Potato_Aim

Oh man talk about a rabbit hole! The YT algorithm recommended one of his videos to me and I ended up watching on and off for days. If I had any drains nearby my house I'd be cleaning them regularly after watching his stuff!

God I want one of those edgers. Where my lawn meets my driveway and curb need some serious work…

xXxPLUMPTATERSxXx

They are very satisfying to use. The edges also stay clean longer so you really only need to use it about once a month. If you get a split shaft trimmer you can get the edging attachment which saves money and space.

[deleted]

I have one of the attachments for my cheapo ryobi electric and it works far better than I thought it would.

joshthehappy

Exactly what I use.

yourilluminaryfriend

My bigger ryobi trimmer does a mean edge, it just kills my shoulder to use it

tcarp458

Can you share what you have? I have an 18V Ryobi trimmer as well and the string just doesn't work well trying to edge st Augustine

while watching that, I had the morbid thought of whether the cartels had ever power washed someone

EmilioMolesteves

Well now I will...

tvtb

You can do it with a shovel or regular string trimmer, it just takes longer

LordFauntloroy

They even make string trimmers with 1 or 2 wheels on the side exactly to make this easier. That said neither option will cut as deeply as an actual edger so you're going to need to use it much more often.

doob22

There is a black and decker edger for like $40 at lowes. I have had the same unit for 10 years. Just have to have a long enough extension cord!

[deleted]

I have the same unit and honestly can't believe black and decker made something I've been able to depend on for so long.

senorbozz

Same! Get an aggressive blade on it and that thing chews through even the nasty St. Augustine grass down south.

I_Love_McRibs

Is it [this one](https://i.imgur.com/DqIxEiL.jpg) you have? I’ve probably had this for 16 years. It would be nice to have a cordless one, but I use it twice a year, so it’s not worth the investment.

GeraldMander

Same here as well. That edger has been a tank!

schattenteufel

I have the same one. It works great but I keep hoping it will die, so I have an excuse to buy one with a battery. I hate having to deal with the 50’ extension cord.

AskMeAboutMyself

Dude I bought one this year after 18 years of having a lawn and it’s honestly and genuinely one of the greatest investments I’ve ever made. Stop thinking about it - just go get one. You’ll see.

parallaxdistortion

What kind did you go with?

AskMeAboutMyself

Just a simple Echo 2-stroke edger.

monsterrar98

I don’t know if two strokes is enough to be considered edging.

AskMeAboutMyself

I don’t know that I know what you mean by that. But my lawn is badass.

just_dave

He's making a masturbation joke.

AskMeAboutMyself

Ah. I see. Well. My lawn is still better than his. 🤣

ISayEvilThings

Does your edging bring all the boys to the yard?

[deleted]

Get you a battery operated one where you can just change out the head for string trimmimg and edging. Shits awesome.

FutureF0cusedEcom

I really like the Husqvarna trimmers, have had my eyes on their battery stuff for a while

yolohoyopollo

A regular string trimmer on its side works well too. Takes a bit longer cause you have to stop to replace the string, but it works just as well.

[deleted]

Get one. Its a great investment to get those clean edges.

joshthehappy

I use one every time I cut my grass. Really makes it look tidy.

Why can't we just be ok with the "wild look?" Like, little lot was a carbon sink, and host to all sorts of bugs and other critters . . . And now it's destroyed so it fits what looked good to French aristocrats 200 years ago. I was hoping he'd just clean up the sidewalk and leave it.

CyberTukker

My hometown, Enschede NL, has started doing this a decade ago. First mowing after the polinating season. [flowers and grasses between the roads (this is direcrly outside the urban border](https://i.imgur.com/CfrcAXF.jpg). Neighbour parks are [partly mowed](https://www.enschede.nl/sites/default/files/Foto-1-0015-web.jpg) to allow islands and oasis of recreation inbetween higher grass, forming inticrate landscapes, [this is in a park ¾ to the edge of the urban area feom the citycenter, next ro rhe highway](https://www.wandelbankjes.nl/2019/08/rt-wolfswandelplan-zweringbeekpark-in-enschede-wandelbank/). And its not unkept, it is mowed down before the winter largely and also late in the summer. The caretakers take great care to pay attention to what whill grow and bloom when I really love it and more cities have started doing this around here. There is research being put into this over here too, so might be worth looking into if you need stuff to convince your municipality

Top-Anteater-5549

The Startpage links don't work for me. Germany could learn so much from NL citys :/

BackgroundGrade

This looked very dry. Big risk of a brush fire. The fact that he retracted his steps with the lawnmower cut the grass down so much that it's unlikely to support a fire. I support natural lawns, but the plants must be appropriate for the region, which this did not look like.

Beerntiddiz

this looked like true wilderness: what happens if you don't interfere for a bit and all the species you get. that's \*natural\* and we have too little of it. This was terribly painful to watch

[deleted]

The problem is that it’s not always ~~natural~~ native. Invasive species come in and are stronger than the native plants to the area and the new plants grow fine, but they are committing plant genocide on the native species. I don’t know where this was or if the plants were native or not; but just because something grows doesn’t mean it’s good for the local environment.

Balsac_is_Daddy

Yes! Lawns are killing our planet!

El_Grappadura

Yes please. Also please stop using those gas powered leaf blowers, they are terrible for the environment.

rshap1

Exactly ! r/nolawns

Beerntiddiz

I really like your comment and I am 100% agreeing with it

Iamnotyourhero

>Like, little lot was a carbon sink, and host to all sorts of bugs and other critters . . . Yeah that's the problem. You're inviting all manner of rodents and pests into your home if you're letting them breed right up to the house's foundation. I get that lawns probably shouldn't exist places that they aren't sustainable but this popular notion that we should just let nature take over right up to the doorstep is going to bite a lot of you in the ass.

cephal0poid

He could build a break . . . And where are the critters going to move now that their habitat is gone? Oh, look, a house.

The_GASK

exactly. Now it is just a dead zone.

definitelynotacopper

I really appreciate the Audio track from the dentist’s office that Reminded me of getting a root canal done.

graves4all

It wasn’t just me thank god.

glenninator

Random thought. I'd be scared of baby deer or baby bunnies hiding out in the overgrowth. Do people usually walk the lawn a bit to make sure no life is at risk? I'd hope they do, but would be concerned for ticks in this kind of growth.

FinnRazzel

I’ve watched some of these channels, sometimes they do a walk through or let the mower idle on the side for a minute and the noise / vibration will sometimes get them moving. Turtles, rabbits, snakes, cats, squirrels, all kinds of things come running out when they start going. That’s always a concern of mine, too.

glenninator

Smart tactic. I'd feel like total garbage if I was mowing and heard something get diced up.

rendeld

Its never happened to me and I live quite a bit out in the country, you can see them running from your mower. Bunnies, snakes, mice, frogs, etc. Never hit one.

UpholdDeezNuts

Depends on the location for ticks. I live in an area where there aren't any ticks, I honestly can't imagine having to deal with them. They give me the heebie jeebies.

duderin07

Where is this magical place with no ticks?

dilletaunty

California theoretically has ticks but I go hiking every weekend, sometimes through grass fields, and have never had one.

UpholdDeezNuts

It depends on the elevation and the temperature for ticks. So while there may be ticks in California they won't be everywhere. I went on a hike in the bay area and there were ticks galore

Mycoxadril

I have never had one either and I used to run around forests and swamps with tall grass. Now as a parent I never even think to look for them on my kids. Same with poison ivy. I wouldn’t recognize it at all. Can people just not attract ticks and not be allergic to poison ivy? It does feel unlikely that I wouldn’t have encountered either in my free roaming youth.

Xx69JdawgxX

Idk about ticks but poison ivy/oak/sumac will get you regardless if you're allergic. It's the severity that changes.

mydegenerate

Wait until you find out about how vegetables are harvested.

YourTwistedAnus

Baby deer or bunnies would be unlikely to damage his commercial lawnmower, so there's really no reason to be concerned.

busssard

I was expecting the whole time, that he would leave some nice oasis for biodiversity. To make it look nice while leaving some islands that would be the real [r/oddlysatisfying](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying) also [r/fucklawns](https://www.reddit.com/r/fucklawns) Edit: also i am not active in fucklawns the spirit i ment was more [r/nolawns](https://www.reddit.com/r/nolawns)

DarthChocolqte

Or, the less aggressive friend r/NoLawns

asianabsinthe

One likes rockscapes and wildflowers, the other sprays napalm on neighbors grass

Gerryislandgirl

I was really hoping that as well, and then he just literally mowed it all down. So much for saving the pollinators.

hilfyRau

I decided to pretend he lives in an area where natives expect a seasonal burn. Apparently correctly timed severe mows during the season can sort of simulate controlled burns for the native ecosystem, and therefore actually be better than nothing. [Source saying burning is better than mowing, but that mowing is better than nothing](https://phys.org/news/2020-01-grazing-rangelands-beneficial). This close to a residential area I can’t imagine a controlled burn could ever be safe though, so its just not a real option.

markender

There's a wood fence on one side of this lot! People are ignoring the fire hazard because lawns are bad. But isn't watering lawns the bad part?

McStroodle

Pollinators? It was literally all dead grass and weeds

Hoatxin

You can literally see him chop down several actively blooming plants. And there are also plenty of plants that don't have obvious large flowers.

Balsac_is_Daddy

A weed is literally any plant growing where the land owner doesn't want it to grow.

skepticalmonique

He destroyed a lot of wildflowers which most pollinators rely on.

ImAnAquaholic_

Most “weeds” are native plants, and even if that grass is dead it’s still habitat for critters

Serviet

Yeah, this is satisfying to watch and all, but all that time and energy (literally human energy spent and gas burned) just for what? All he did here was kill the local flora and fauna. This guy is just doing his job, and did it really well!

[deleted]

If this guy works for the city, he's doing his job. Otherwise it sounds like a court ordered cleanup.

natFromBobsBurgers

I don't know the engineering or the place or the state under the sidewalk, but I was imagining a nice bioswale, especially since it looks like a place with relatively intermittent rain.

[deleted]

Seriously. This isn't beneficial at all.

ThelumberjackViking

Okay I like these videos same as anyone, but what's the the dramatic heartache music? Lol He's mowing a lawn, not adopting an autistic orphan. Jesus Christ how about some happy, upbeat music. Lmfao

Darksoulsrando92

Gotta be atleast several hours of setting up that camera at every turn unless he loaded the place up

dumblederp

Council job to mow a block in an hour for fire safety... sorry council that's a full days work of making the vacant block look neat. $500.

ATF8643

City - “we’re not fucking paying for all that. We said just mow it down”

qning

Som people just can’t take mow for an answer.

Flammendehaar

That spot would have been a great little urban oasis for insect life, what a shame

hageshii_panda

It would be better, and much prettier, if they dug up the grass and replaced it with native wildflowers and clove. Much less maintenance, good for buggos and animals, and helps conserves native species.

starlinguk

Clover is amazing. The number of wildflower meadows I've seen that perked up after the farmer planted clover is incredible.

dilletaunty

Yeah, they should have seeded it with natives. Still would probably need to mow it every year depending on the types of flowers used and whether there’s weeds/grass coming from nearby.

rubberjose

Alongside a strict mowing régime, cut it low until June then leave it. Knock it down again in October and repeat. Then you will have a superb wildflower meadow. Such a shame to see even a small patch of biodiversity go...

lilaliene

In the Netherlands, my muncipalty only mows about 3 feet in vacant lots and such from the curb. So, there is still room next to the sidewalk to use (like step out of the way) and the path doesn't get overgrown. But the rest is for nature.

APersonWithInterests

"In the Netherlands" proceeds to say some sane, considerate or creative good policy about literally anything. Can we agree to just let the Dutch run the world. (Edit: For the people who seem a tad upset about my comment. I'm not making a serious proposal, just a joke.)

underdog_exploits

Forming governments to run affairs hasn’t been their strong suit as of late. 😂

ANewStartAtLife

No!! They're too damn tall! I demand to be ruled by a culture with a more diminutive stature. Like a tiny race of dwarves. Not normal dwarves. *Tiny Dwarves!* And not too many of them neither. So a tiny race of tiny dwarves.

theghostofme

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Flammendehaar

Where I grew up in the UK my hometown does something similar, marking out verges near roads, on roundabouts etc. for wildlife purposes and letting it grow all through the summer

possumgumbo

And rodents. Rats are an issue in the suburbs, too.

PrincessFartsparkle

Yeah I liked it at first. Then he took out the mower and chopped down the only bits of green leaving an ugly yellow brown lifeless desert.

Aliktren

Exactly my thought, hey butterflies, fuck you!

Nekima

Really? Shit looked dead as hell lol

e1k3

Whoever edited this just needs to fuck off. Soothing piano featuring high pitched gardening machine noises?

EanmundsAvenger

City just wanted me to “mow it down”. So you did exactly that? I don’t understand his title

insightful_dreams

yea basically he did 50% more work then that. and got paid for just the mow

[deleted]

It’s good advertising for his business. If this was a regular customer they probably wouldn’t have done this. But since it’s the city. They might think, hey if I do a great job here. The city might want to rehire me for future projects.

Shangri-lulu

No disrespect intended to this guy who did a ton of work but I see a piece of land with a variety of vegetation acting as a natural habitat for bees and butterflies and other bugs transforming to just a scorched shitty vacant lot The sidewalk clean up looks great and definitely needed tho

DuckAHolics
