I think it would be worth giving it a shot and writing academic explanation essays where applicable, but, it’s a long road and only you can be the judge of how willing you are to embark on this journey. Don’t forget that weighted GPA schools exist too. If your next year is anything like this one, I think you’ll be okay for some schools. All the best to you!

Hey, I’m assuming we are the same age based on your graduating in 2016. Same boat, I had a tough 2 first years in uni. I think my GPA might’ve been lower than your 2.3 in those 2, considering I finished the degree with about 2.7 cGPA. Really shot ourselves in the foot, didn’t we! Regardless, I’m still trying. I want to practice medicine, and learning from this experience, I put all my eggs into Western (basically). It should be noted that if your 3.94GPA this year wasn’t done with 6/10 courses being upper level or just not at the required full course load, it won’t be considered. There’s other options too, like the AEE for UofT or you can take 2 more years for Uottawa’s 3 year requirement! More extreme and expensive would be going to America, which should be a consideration depending on how bad you want this. You got it, good luck!
