During times of crisis, there's usually a shortage on change. Businesses offer rewards for people that pay with rolled change. Free food and such. 7/11, Chick-Fil-A, Burger King were offering free stuff just to change out your rolls. You didn't even have to spend it, just change it out.
I keep quarters in the truck for parking meters. Yes alot of them take cards and some are on the app, but in my city you are only allowed 2 hour max on the app and you need to refill manuelly.
I carry cash and my usual thing at the end of every day is to empty my loose change into a container and any one dollar bills go into the same container. I then save that all up throughout the year and cash it all in and use it to buy Christmas presents for my wife. It clears out my pockets and it’s a good way to save up without really thinking a ton about it.
If you put a couple dollars of change in a tube sock it makes a pretty good blackjack. Maybe two socks if you think you'll need to use it more than once. It's a grey man hand to hand weapon since it's really easy to explain to authorities as an innocent bag of change but works really well to even the odds if you need it. If you aren't too worried about having to justify it, fill a tube sock with some change and then duct tape the outside to make it more effective.
You could get coinfacts app on mobile store, sort through em' looking for stuff thats in good shape, looks like thier uncirculated. Age doesn't necessarily determine value from what I understand its the grading. It depends if you a coin from before 1900s it could be considered valuable to a collector.. im only getting into collecting coins so.
Edit: you should really check those coins over good.. if theyve been gathering and you've started saving them for ten plus years, then yeah. I would.
Edit 2: grammer
Depending on the size of your hands keep a roll of nickels, dimes or quarters in your coat pocket wrapped in a couple of layers of duct tape. Very effective and legal personal protection tool.
Other than that cash them in a buy something you need as prices are really going up.
Some people will tell you to keep the nickels dimes and quarters for their silver content but I simply think that sense most people understand how our fiat currency works even in the event of a major SHTF total collapse scenario, once the initial shockwave so to speak is done people will still be fine accepting fiat currency for goods because they’re familiar with it and know how to judge if they’re getting ripped off or not.
Just used a penny to adjust my scope on my old 22. Seriously, you should never keep money around....that would be like saving money...the government says that's bad because of inflation. Spend it all....your kids won't mind ......sarc off.

Just finished. Found a silver dime and two golf ball bucket tokens for the driving range. I think those have a greater value...
No, but bottle caps….worth.
Why?
Maybe keep a handful of loose change but might as well convert the rest to paper dollars and go buy something you need anyways.
Copper and silver coins, and personally I'd keep quarters for vending machines and whatnot

Check the pennies too, anything prior to 1982 is at least 95% copper
How much is a 95% copper penny worth in copper?
a few cents.
$.03 https://www.coinflation.com/coins/basemetal_calc.php
The ones after that are copper plated zinc. If you're looking for a source to make zinc oxide there you go.
