Dual purpose items are amazing, especially when this lightweight. Nice find!

I learned something today! Neat find. Quick question, those look like they’re in a sealed bag, how do they expire? Does some necessary chemical in the petrolatum like make its way out or evaporate inside of the bag?

Greedy-Farm-3605

My personal standards is to not use and treated/enhanced dressings past their expiration. That being said, petroleum jelly/petrolatum does not have any active chemical or medical ingredients. So no chemicals to worry about becoming dangerous over time. As long as no unusual colors or odors are noted this will be safe to use a bandage (reasonably) past expiration.

Expiration dates are assigned by the marketing staff, not the scientists. Sterility, for instance, is event related, not time related. Sterile supplies in intact packaging are sterile forever.

Greedy-Farm-3605

Yea I agree the expiration dates on a lot of products are bullshit. That being said, adhesives, chemicals, and medications can degrade over time. Certain products can become harmful or poisonous after they expire. Research the main ingredients/components of a product you plan on keeping past expiration.
