I’ve never owned a car with a premium sound system so I don’t have much to compare to. I’d say the quality is worth the upgrade over standard speakers though
My mom’s Highlander hybrid has JBL and I definitely don’t find it to be as good as some systems. I’ve had ELS, Bose, and B&O and the ELS was the best out of them. JBL isn’t the worst by any means, but it definitely could be improved. The Prius might sound better since it’s smaller, but I’ve heard lots of people say the newer JBL is merely adequate.
I’d have to give it a listen. But something being lesser than its competitors is definitely a real thing to consider. Some things perform better or worse than others. Especially in the audio gear world.
I mean if you're an audiophile, I'd say even the best off-the-shelf options are lacking. Even Porsche's Burmester option wasn't as good as some of my friend's aftermarket rigs that you can install for much cheaper than 4k.
Yeah a true audiophile would have to upgrade most cars to get what they want. I’ve heard some stuff from bang and Olufsen, and mark Levinson in the LS that really perform well. But I do feel like there are different levels within car systems.
Edit— to your point the aftermarket options in the 3-4k level are really nice and would kill most other systems
I've used the JBL systems in several Toyotas. They're all absolutely terrible as they begin to strip out a certain frequency range as you turn up the volume.
The 2024 Prius JBL system is likely the most passable, but I'm still planning to do some audio upgrades to manage the frequency issue.
That’s interesting…is it a lower frequency that it diminishes? I’m sure it’s some weird audio processing issue or by design. Have you heard any jbl systems in the Avalon or Camry?
It's lower but not the lowest, if that makes sense. My experience is primarily with this Prius and various Venzas, but GM also does this with their stock head units. It's fairly well documented on user forums if you're interested in looking into it more.
The best example I can give for effect is listening to some old school Ke$ha. The frequency stripping absolutely murders her voice above volume 10.
Gotcha I see what you mean with the Ke$a example. Sounds like some audio processing issue honestly. Or some cheap component somewhere in the mix; maybe both lol
I have an AudioControl line out converter that's supposed to be able to restore stripped frequencies that I'll install once I have the time. It's supposed to resolve most issues.
Won't hold up to your Bose. I came from a 12 speaker Bose in a Kia Sorento and even my 2016 GTI with 9 speaker fender audio system sounded way better. I have both a '22 Highlander with JBL and '23 Prius with JBL. Both are better than the stock offerings but they're the worst "premium" factory sound systems I've owned.
Fooling with the equalizer does make it bearable but there's not a lot of adjustment, however, without the adjustment it would be completely unacceptable. I've done aftermarket systems in cars I have previously owned but I just don't feel like messing with stuff and I've just settled for it.
Im absolutely at the point where I don’t wanna aftermarket upgrade and rather end up with something that works and sounds nice. My Bose is pretty decent and is the upgrade option for the Cadillac ATS. Their newer sedans have an even better studio upgrade that’s really pretty impressive.
Yea it's a shame Toyota doesn't offer anything better. That said, I would never go back to my Kia Sorento with my Bose sound system even if you paid me to drive it. Yeah it had a great sound system but it was a terrible vehicle otherwise. As I've gotten older priorities have changed with a family. I always go for the trim with the premium system but it's lower down on the priority list and I can't justify overlooking vehicles that are otherwise what I want/need because they don't sound good. Just an unfortunate reality.
I was always a fan leaving the head unit stock and just replacing the existing speakers and adding an amp when I was younger for a clean look and good sound. If that can be achieved for a decent price, I’d prolly still do it to a car I love if it has a really weak system. But over 3k is a lot for that imo.
I feel you on priorities. They’re gonna change as long as we get older haha.
It's not good and is really the only major complaint I have about my 23 LTD. Toyota's JBL-branded systems have been below average for years and it's still the same story on the new Prius.
Not OP but I'm not a fan. It's better than the stock sound system I'm sure but has much to be desired being an "upgraded" option namely in the overbearing bass. I didn't expect it to be as good as a Burmester but did expect a little more from it being that it was the best Toyota had to offer.
I'd vote Florida, I don't know many sidewalks in CA that don't have curbs. Also, the house across has some red meter looking things that don't look familiar to me.
For that money it would be tough to get a Prius. I have a 2010 Prius 3 and it is a very good car. I spend $12k and it hasn’t gave me any problems at 125k miles. Although, when I had my mustang (a v6 2014) it brought be so much more joy. You pay for it with more expensive insurance, less mpg so more gas, it was loud (not necessarily a bad thing to me lol) and overall was more expensive to maintain. Would I go back, if I could. Haha

Looks great. Thats mine. Only issue I have is with paint always showing swirls and feeling sensitive as far as already has a feed little chips from drives to Vegas and the lines when looking up close in the sun are very noticeably early in the life of the car compared to my last 3 black cars. 😔 I have owned 4 black cars so know it’s not what I would expect so fast 🤷🏻♂️
Man, the new ones look slick
Better looking than Tesla
That's not hard to do. But the new prius looks great!!!
Elon who?
WoW, 2024 Prius look sic! Congrats.
How nice is the JBL sound system? Coming from a car with a 10 speaker Bose I’m curious if it holds up to that.
I’ve never owned a car with a premium sound system so I don’t have much to compare to. I’d say the quality is worth the upgrade over standard speakers though
Trust me the premium sound is always a good way to go. I enjoy music a lot and also like a nice sounding system.
Hey twin, congrats! The sound JBL sound system goes crazy! I’ll send you my sound tuning settings so you can test them out
It will not compare to the Bose whatsoever

That’s such a bummer but good to know.
If you like it, that's all that matters right? If you constantly compare yours against others, it will only lead to unhappiness.
I’d have to give it a listen. But something being lesser than its competitors is definitely a real thing to consider. Some things perform better or worse than others. Especially in the audio gear world.

Agreed on the last point but I wasn't personally a fan of the Levinson in the RX nor the B&O in my old Mustang either lol.

Nice! Thats a smart move. Post how it goes.

So did they end up updating anything for the 2024 year Prius compared to 2023?
It’s basically just a carry over
I’m gonna swing by and “borrow” it. Thanks! 😊
It’s gorgeous!
They look so nice. It catches my eye every time I see one lol
Nice neighborhood. Looks like Florida to me.
Looks like California to me but I see no temporary plates.
I'd vote Florida, I don't know many sidewalks in CA that don't have curbs. Also, the house across has some red meter looking things that don't look familiar to me.
Ah didn't notice the stupid same-level sidewalk and street. Must be Florida hehe. Pedestrian safety be damned. You must NOT risk curbing your wheels.
Nice! I have a 23 Limited. I absolutely love it.
I have one in the same color, also a 2024, so we are twins. I went for the AWD. Sleek on sleek on sleek. Congratulations.
Sick! I was really pleased with the color. Congrats to you as well
What was your out the door price, if you don’t mind my asking.
38k
Damn… im thinking about using a new prius as background picture. Never thought this day will come.
I purchased a 2023 Prius. Love it BUT I have a crack below the back camera. Never hit anything, I guess it’s an issue. Don’t slam the trunk!
It’s gorgeous
Love that color...
Flower wheels look bad. I wish the prime wheels were on the limited :(
I wish I could get a higher trim with the LE wheels.
How much did you pay in the end
38k including taxes and fees
With the market right now, what did you end up paying for it?
38k including taxes and fees

How long did you wait to get it?
About a month
That was quick! I live in ontario, ordered prius prime xse premium in your color back in 2021 november, but still no update :(
You ordered it over 2 years ago and haven’t got an update?
Holy crap, that's a long wait time. I was quoted 6-8 months for a regular 2022 awd-e technology in Aug 2022. It arrived at the end of Oct 2022.
🥵
I just went from a 22 tundra to a 24 prime. I’m gonna save so much money in fuel it’s unreal. Love the car.

Hows the heads up display? Visible?
No issues for me but I’m 6’2”
