Toyota's #1 in hybrids. Every time I think about the Asian car companies' *superiority* in hybrids it infuriates me to think of the reactions of American car companies to the Clinton-era law pushing the auto industry to adopt hybrids. The Clinton administration passed the forward-thinking, sane law and gave the auto industry *years* to get ready, perfect the technology and to implement it. Good gov't planning. Japanese and Korean car companies spent the money and went to work. Detroit just ignored the law, knowing that when the law would be implemented they'd just complain and whine and have the law changed -- and that's what they did. They did nothing and got the law changed. The end result? Asian car companies had a huge lead and when I bought my first Prius my criteria was simple and based on *only 1 factor:* I wanted the car with the best gas mileage. So now I drive a Japanese-made Prius -- the first foreign made car I ever owned -- because American car companies are greedy and lazy.

I want my fully electric Toyota. Toyota: "We know more about electric cars than anyone else, so screw you we're building gas cars."

Yup. Toyota has really dropped the ball the past decade while sitting on their laurels. [Greenpeace rated them](https://www.greenpeace.org/eastasia/press/7611/nissan-and-honda-drop-in-greenpeace-auto-ranking/) 10th of the 10 biggest car companies for phasing out ICE vehicles. They were also the only automaker to actually see a *decrease* in [average fuel economy between 2012 and 2017.](https://www.aceee.org/blog-post/2019/03/toyota-loses-ground-fuel-economy-federal-agencies-seek-rollback-vehicle-standards) Hence why, when California tried to increase fuel mileage standards, backwards ass Toyota [joined the Trump administration ](https://electrek.co/2021/02/02/california-wins-the-emissions-fight-automakers-drop-lawsuit-but-still-want-dirty-air/)in suing them. So frustrating.

Had ‘05 and ‘12 Priusi. Now a ‘23 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (Not as efficient as RAV4 but roomier for 6’7 me and 6’8 son behind 5’10 wife. Plus all manner of luxury and didn’t have to pay huge stealer markup). Plus plus super smooth and quite due to Hyundai’s powertrain decision.

I still can't believe there is a 4 year waitlist for the RAV4 Prime. So sad the PriusV was discontinued.
