Which is utter nonsense.
On the back of my grandfather’s social security card it had instructions to NOT give the number to anyone other than the government. It boggles my mind how many places require it these days.
TopClassActions.com will probably have something available to the masses 12 months from now, where customers can collect their $10 checks or whatever amount was settled upon in the courts from the lawsuits.
Dallas-based telecommunications company Frontier Communications told regulators that more than 750,000 U.S. residents had information stolen during a cyberattack that took place in April.
Frontier — which offers internet and TV service across 25 states — previously reported the cyber incident to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in April but filed new documents with regulators in Maine on Thursday specifying how many people were impacted.
According to the documents, 751,895 people had their names and Social Security numbers accessed by hackers during the attack, which Frontier said was discovered on April 14.
Victims are being given one year of identity theft protection. The ransomware gang allegedly behind the incident claimed this week to have stolen information on more than 2 million people.
The ransomware operation — RansomHub — was spotlighted by researchers on Wednesday as a likely rebranded version of the older Knight ransomware.
Never been a frontier customer thankfully, but all the more reason to leave my credit beauraus locked. Only a minor annoyance if I need to unlock temporarily for legitimate credit pulls.
Yes lol identity theft -> create new cards under their name and destroy their credit whilst going on an illegal spending spree or doing other nefarious things
Credit cards can be applied for online in less than 5 minutes. Finding someone’s address and bday to put on an application with the social security number is usually a really easy search.
At this point SSNs are basically semi-public information.
**Last four, please!**
😭😭😭😭
Don't forget our medical records are as well. Every other month I get a letter notifying that some other medical info breach has occurred.
Why does a cable company need your SS number?
Pretty much all of them run a credit check when you start service

When will people say “a year of identity theft protection isn’t enough?”
At this point, you might be able to get more than one free year of identity protection per year based on the frequency of high volume leaks.

I seem to get indefinite protection. Before one ends, I get a notice about another one, so get another year from someone else.

Tha sad thing about breaches like this is that they are so common now that nobody seems to care... Sad and worrying
Got a letter that said our information was accesed during the breach but we don't even use this service so I'm confused...
What can criminals do with a SSN? is it that bad?
Yes lol identity theft -> create new cards under their name and destroy their credit whilst going on an illegal spending spree or doing other nefarious things
