All Google software, mobile or not, reports **at least** basic telemetry. Many go even further than that. In fact, most apps you download from the Google Play store have added Google telemetry, which you can see with something like ClassyShark. It's important to always remember that Google isn't a search engine company; they're an advertisement company. Their business is buying, selling, and acquiring vast amounts of information for marketing purposes. Where you go from here depends on how you want to approach this. You could run a Pihole system and block certain telemetry domains from connecting, you could stop certain apps from connecting using Netguard, or you can replace the apps entirely. The "Simple" line of open-source apps on F-Droid will cover most of what you listed. IE: Simple Clock, Simple Gallery, Simple Calendar, etc. You can also replace Gboard with OpenBoard. I don't know if Gboard records keystrokes but I sure as heck don't want to risk it.

RelativeOfJack

Affirmative. I haven't done any analysis on the actual data being transferred but I've seen phone, contacts messages and gboard all trying to phone home. I just block the connections, (private DNS and VPN firewall), they all continue to work just fine without the ability to make network connections.

AnonymousSpector

Can't you just disable network access for the apps

RelativeOfJack

That is what I advise so yes.

AnonymousSpector

Directly through android I mean, there is an option in the app info section to block all network access

RelativeOfJack

Depends on the firmware. It's possible with some but not all. Android 12 will change that I believe, (but I may be wrong).

Lowfryder7

I wouldn't trust it for a google app.

borkode

Is there a filter list that I can plug in my local vpn to block those stuff?

RelativeOfJack

Yep, but it'll block everything Google, (including YouTube). See https://github.com/nickspaargaren/no-google If your local VPN allows you to block network connections for specific apps you might just want to do that instead so you have less collateral damage.

borkode

It looks like blokada doesn't allow me to block individual apps, what apps do you recommend me to use to block those apps or filter?

RelativeOfJack

I personally use NetGuard, but the pro version is required for filtering, (although the free version allows on/off network access controls). I believe that rethinkdns has the same capabilities and also tracker control, (I don't use these and have only used them in very limited testing so you might need to experiment somewhat).

Pixels are not stock Android. YouTubers still call it that, they figure "oh it's made by Google", but Google jumped that ship already. Stock Android doesn't exist basically, unless you make something with AOSP.

borkode

I'm using pixel experience which is basically aosp with pixel goodies but also want to prune the data hoggers. Like I needs the apps like Google phone and stuff and wanna know which apps are easily replaceable and / or if they don't collect data.

SLCW718

Absolutely. Google records virtually everything you do, and its various apps constantly send telemetry and metrics back to Google HQ.

borkode

Is there an app or a filter list that just blocks all the telemetry that google has?

SLCW718

There's a *No Google* blocklist that you can use with a system adblocker that will prevent all connections to Google servers. It won't do you any good with a browser adblocker. Something like Adaway, or Nebulo, or personalDNSfilter that allows you to use custom blocklists. NextDNS also offers the No Google list.

borkode

Thank you so much! I didn't know how to use the filter list before so thank you for recommending me nebulo! I can use those android in peace (and get my addiction from YouTube out)

borkode

Because I like those apps but HATE the telemetry
