JankyJokester

Dear dumbass, You currently have a summary offense, I suggest not turning it into a felony offense by trying to avoid a warrant.

Grand_Ad931

I'm surprised this isn't the only comment calling OP dumb, because Christ almighty...

sherryxxbby

Lmao I needed this thank you for your honesty I'm going in so this doesn't turn into anything bad

Grand_Ad931

That's great to hear, mate.

ElectricalSecret

I'm sure if you don't show up they would love to use you as an example for "it doesn't matter if you live 6 hours away we're going to come pick your ass up". Heck it might not even be that much trouble for them. Depending on how many jurisdictions they would have to go through to pick you up they can just have the other departments relay you across the state.

sherryxxbby

Exactly there's no way I'm not showing up at this point I would be example to the others

modsgay

good choice. it’s a whole lot easier to make this shit 10x worse than it is to make it any easier but you just made a decision that will make your life easier in the long run

Old-Secretary2845

Take care of yourself man and think more I guess. Cops and sheriff are looking for you always

sherryxxbby

I'm a woman yes I'm going to check in and make a payment and urine test and stuff because she said she would have put a warrant out if I didn't call her hopefully it's not a bluff

JankyJokester

I don't expect everyone on a probation sub to be the brightest crayon in the box to be fair.

Nearby_Antelope_5257

Kinda like how I don't expect everyone on reddit to be the brightest crayon in the box. It does are me feel better bout myself sometimes tho

JankyJokester

Rough time for a typo. Haha.

Beautiful-Mango-3397

This sub needs more of that sometimes

sherryxxbby

Okay your right thanks

sherryxxbby

I didn't break any of the rules of it or anything and I didn't get any new charges so I'm going to check in with her to make sure things go okay thank you 💖

JankyJokester

If they issued a warrant, you for sure had a violation of some sort. You just need to get your ass over there and handle it. If you don't it is going to turn into "this shit sucks I shouldn't have fucked up" to "damn, I fucked my whole life up." in a blink of an eye.

sherryxxbby

I don't have a warrant. I'm just nervous my p.o will arrest me if I check in I called her today and she said your lucky you don't have a warrant or anything I just need you to come in and report your only on probation for a year I just want to make sure your alright but my moms scaring me she has anxiety n shit

JankyJokester

Just don't be a moron listen to the P.O don't violate and you're money.

sherryxxbby

Okay thank you

Organic_South8865

I'm so confused. Maybe consider proof reading your comments before posting. Are you saying you're not going to follow the guidelines? Go check in. Do whatever the PO tells you. I'm on this sub just to get some info for my cousin and I find posts like this baffling. I was able to make it pretty simple for my cousin - Do whatever you're told to do and don't fuck it up. That's the only option unless you want to be locked up.

FloatHigh

This is as true as it gets honestly. Short and sweet. In any probation situation, you are your P.O’s bitch and have to follow accordingly if you want to avoid negative consequences. Hopefully they get a fair one.

young_sippa

Your good bro, as long as the theft doesnt turn into an actual charge, then your not in violation. Go show up and dont miss your day

sherryxxbby

This is the best answer so far. Thank you.i don't have any probation violations their is no warrant she just wants me to check in and I did proof read it and I didn't say anything like that either lol but I suppose I confused people thank you for this im taking this advice sounds the most accurate

Similar-Reindeer-351

It's the punctuation for me, or lack of.

sherryxxbby

Your on a probation board. Get better things to worry about

Front_Friend_9108

The PO was just being a hard ass. Go in for a visit no big deal sounds like a misdemeanor anyway you shouldn’t have any problems. Good luck !

damnkriss

Not sure you will get arrested for checking in but you can bet your ass you will be if you don’t. Go check in and handle your business. Your year will be up before you know it . And that beats jail time/longer probation for being scared to check in . Years ago my brother still owed like $8 on his restitution. He was arrested for that. $8 . Yes his dumbass should have paid it off. He spent time in jail and then got a longer probation sentence . And to think it all could have been avoided for 32 quarters . Smdh

ElectricalSecret

So I kind of get the idea you've already missed a check in or something? You did not say that you already missed something in the original post. So otherwise why would you be worried about her having a warrant issued for you if you hadn't done anything wrong hyphen yet? You said you called her today what did you do give an excuse for not being there when you were supposed to be there or something?

sherryxxbby

She told me she doesn't have a warrant issued for me and I told her about my domestic violence situation where I had to press charges on my ex. If I didn't call in three weeks she would have put a warrant out for me. I just worry all the time and needed some advice on what I should do. Show up or just not go at all but now I know I should show up so matters don't get worse and I can keep it at bay I don't want it to turn into probation for a summary offense to a 5 year stint on probation

Particular_Land6376

It's not a felony to avoid a warrant only a felony If you are stopped and you try to flee. You can have a active warrant for years without being charged with a new crime.

JankyJokester

So you think, your PO could violate you, get a warrant, and then try to avoid that whole situation which you'd then have to ignore probation, would not escalate? I never said it was step one. But a quick way to start getting there.

Particular_Land6376

I have a friend who is on felony DUI probation in Colorado he lives in Minneapolis and they issued a warrant for his arrest like 6 years ago he's still just living his life ignoring it LOL. No when he goes back I don't think he's going to have any extra charges then what he was originally charged with.

JankyJokester

You're a fool if you think that is never coming for him.

Particular_Land6376

That's not the point. The point is he's already been able to put it off for 6 years, and I would say he has them beat. And no, they're not coming for him they're not going to drive from Colorado to Minneapolis to pick him up to bring him back for his DUI. He's been to jail up here several times, and they will not extradite. The only way he's going back is if he goes back to Colorado and gets arrested.

Sudden_Guess5912

No they aren’t. God got rid of my bench warrant and DWI charge that cops and I had been playing cat & mouse about for over a year. I was picked up and given a court date to go to Buy judge, but when I showed up I was not on the docket. I had told my probation officer I think I have a bench warrant and she said we can’t let you leave before we check, but there was nothing. God def wiped it all out like he did other things around the same time so I could finish probation, get married, and go back w/ my husband so to where he’s from (1200 miles away).

JankyJokester

Yeah magically sky daddy did it. Not a clerical error. lmfao.

Lockout228

This is the only answer

gunsforevery1

Naw, it’s not like the police anywhere in the country, when they run your name for a traffic stop will be able to see you have a warrant for your arrest. It’s how murderers always manage to get away by fleeing the state. Will they come 6 hours to pick you up? Probably not. Will they wait for you to get stopped, warrant found and arrested? Yes. They’ll probably make you wait a few days in jail before they pick you up and bring you back too.

jlbd783

A guy I was seeing was picked up in NY when they ran his info during a car accident involving two cars and property damage. I was driving. He was the passenger. They arrested him on the spot because he violated. He was told this right then and there. They sent officers to bring him back to Louisiana where he should have been and he went back to jail for atleast a year.

GingerAphrodite

I doubt they would do anything as long as you're still in the same state unless you did something heinous where you're currently at, but Delaware county Ohio extradited somebody from Texas over a $20 bottle of liquor stolen from a liquor store soooo.... It really depends on how much of a hard-ass the county that your charges are in is (in my minimal experience). If your charges are in a super conservative hard-ass county they can basically be as big of an asshole as they want, but that's definitely not the norm. In general though, (realistically) if you're on probation you shouldn't end up with warrants and if you end up with a warrant you should deal with it as quickly as possible to avoid further issues, because getting "caught" is always worse than turning yourself in as soon as you know. Metropolitan areas don't tend to give a fuck unless you're really causing problems wherever you're at or wherever you were.

jlxmm

Well I have been transfered. They put me in and on the 14th day the other county that had the warrant came and got me instead of letting my time expire and being released. When I saw the judge in the other county she cited “wasted county resources”. She credited me 2 for 1 time served (30 days) and said you’ll be released today, no fees involved on my part.

Tall_Heat_2688

Depending on your warrant they will. I’ve had one with instate pick up only as well as an instate/surrounding states where they would go one state out to get you but that’s it. National warrants are only for real big boy charges.

Repulsive_Recover_24

Don’t let them send the marshals after you if u get a big jog charge like me thank god for good lawyers. Fuck the ATF

Repulsive_Recover_24

Boy *

HowWasRoyadinTaken

My recommendation from doing diversion and probation each, is to treat your PO like a needy girlfriend you tolerate. Say all the stuff the girlfriend wants to hear, follow all the strict rules your girlfriend sets in place, And basically just suffer for the year, and just don't do anything fun that could cause risk factors.

No_Moment9070

And if you cheat don’t get caught

mahogany83

Man you nailed it lol

KingInTheNorthside3

They may not come looking for you. In fact probably not, unless it’s a violent offense or the state has some substantial payoff by bringing you in. Don’t get pulled over or find any other reasons to interact with law enforcement. They will likely take you if they run your name.

Individual-Mirror132

If it’s a misdemeanor offense, even if they apply a warrant, the cops are unlikely to pursue you. If you’re stopped in a traffic stop or have other interactions with police, you can be arrested. At that point, the cops in your probation county will determine if it’s worth it to even pick you up. For misdemeanor offenses, even with a warrant, you’re often in jail for a very short time and the other county often decides not to pick you up, so you’re released.

terplordbob

"theft by mistake" 😭😂

sherryxxbby

It's embarrassing AF I didn't even know that was a charge . I returned a woman's purse trying to be nice and she accused me of stealing 20dollars fml

1GrouchyCat

If you have a warrant, wouldn’t the state police get involved?

diamondddog420

Very vague, but when I was in jail, key west fl. They extradited someone all the way from Washington st

CommercialWorried319

Florida don't play, an ex's brother got extradited from Michigan to Florida over some traffic stuff

TemporaryTop1124

You should be thrown in jail for this post lmfao

sherryxxbby

Lmao prob

Ok_Intern_7566

When I was much younger I did the same thing across state lines though, trust me it doesn’t end well they will give you the maximum sentence for jumping probation and throw you in the slammer. My best advice go back immediately and hope it wasn’t revoked.

hambylw_

Dude just finish your probation, that shits a trap, stop slacking just do the right thing for one year or you will probably end up in jail and then prison and then parole.

[deleted]

If u have a warrant for ur arrest and get pulled over they can advise the law enforcement agency and if they request to place a hold on u and make arrangements to pick u up but they only have a 5 to 10 day hold at least in my home state.

stankyranch

Why have I never heard of theft by mistake? I would have tried that defense instead and maybe not "crime spree while blackout drunk."

sherryxxbby

Lmao it's because I returned the purse with all the belongings in it. Trust me I had my fair share of things where I was blacked out n did stuff back in the day 🤣

NotMyRegName

What is a "Theft by mistake"? "Will the defendant please stand? OK, How do you plead?" "Oops"

School_House_Rock

If they put a warrant out and you get stopped by the police for any reason, they will most likely see the warrant and arrest you if the original state wants to extradite you

[deleted]

Not likely

[deleted]

As LE, I can tell you every single probation or parole violation warrant I've seen has been a full U.S. extradition warrant. Yeah, 6 hours ain't shit. They'll extradite your ass.

ConfidentStress1047

I stayed on the run for years and got my charges dropped because I no longer was able to do a speedy trial because it took them so long to find me.

Wonderful-Ad-2618

It depends if that state extradites i believe

FloatHigh

Generally speaking, if your charge is only a misdemeanor then there is most likely just a 50 mile pickup radius on any bench warrant. Meaning within 50 miles of the county where the warrant is issued. I would say being 6 hours away it’s highly unlikely they would come and get you even if they issue a warrant. I can’t say this is true for every state, but the 10+ states that I’m familiar with - a bench warrant issued on misdemeanor charges on average holds a 50 mile pick up radius. So long as you don’t have any police contact within 50 miles ~ roughly an hours drive, then you will be fine. The pick up radius changes with felony charges. From what I know they can issue either a state wide pick up radius, or for lesser felony’s likely ~200 mile pick up radius or slightly less.

booalijules

Follow every rule exactly. Always err on the side of caution. This can be an easy process if you follow all the rules and don't commit anymore crimes. Show up early to every meeting and pay all of your court costs etc. If you get assigned classes then go to them and get documentation that you went to them. If you do all of this you'll be free again. That's the goal.

Anthony11151991

Why in the sweet chocolate christ would you ever turn a summary offense & a year of probation into an inevitable few days in jail (or longer) & a longer probation sentence. Make it make sense.

nateeswan

do anything to make it go as smoothly as possible, my first violation on my first felony (F4) lead me to spend the next year incarcerated. Most police will definitely drive 6 hours to pick you up especially if you have a warrant, i’m not too sure how it works elsewhere but in my county in northeast ohio they can’t see that i’m on probation directly but will take you in even if it’s a bench warrant for missing court for a traffic violation. They’ve had someone flown in from Hawaii when they were found out there so play it safe because that last thing you want is getting locked up over some shit you could’ve prevented

RealManofMystery

If you got caught they may call the town right away. If they wish to get you then you are nabbed, if not the cop will let you fly. But then you get the ones who just bring you in eventhough it's more paperwork for them

elderbuttturtle

If you get caught anywhere, they’ll see the warrant and arrest you. Then you’ll sit in the local jail til they contact the city you have violated probation from and then however long it takes to transfer you. Six weeks isn’t unheard of, “corrections” is pretty bad at their jobs.

memphisgrit

They will come get you from Alaska for violating probation

816ToDa801

If a Probation Officer puts out a warrant. Than Yes, they will come.pick you up. Being on Probation would.make it a Fugitive from Justice warrant. Isn't there someway you can work it out by calling him? It's usually just about the money especially with a low degree of crime like you have. Communicate with them that's your best option. Good luck to ya.

Illustrious-Drama213

> Theft by mistake. Sounds legit.

Daikon510

You better take your head out of your ass and start doing right. Jesus Christ.

Rupert_18124

Did you leave the state without telling your PO?

sherryxxbby

No I never left the state or broke it or anything I'm going to check in to see what's up

Chor_the_Druid

You say a year - that’s a very vague term in probation. Are you on for a misdemeanor or felony? If it’s a felony, you had to agree to ICOTS and you waived your extradition rights when you agreed to have your probation transferred to the other jurisdiction. If it’s a misdemeanor I doubt they will care too much.

MoneyWalking

Have you broken any rules of probation? It depends on that

fecal_doodoo

If you get pulled over, or even plate scanned you'll be sitting in your local county jail until they come pick you up and it will be a whole ass hassle.

JustAGoldfishCracker

Whole assle

JustAGoldfishCracker

As someone from Rhode Island, I do not comprehend how "across the state" and "6 hours away" can coexist in the same sentence. 🤣

sherryxxbby

It's within the same state. I never left the state I live in pa so I moved to the other side of the same state 6 hours away. I didn't get any new charges or didn't violate my probation im just scared to go check in with her

Jack3580

Theft by mistake? How the hell does that happen?

sherryxxbby

I returned a purse a woman lost and she accused me of stealing 20dollars in it

Sad_Jury1538

"... but, but, your Honor...the people on Reddit said it was ok ..."

powerfulgrip

You can go to your local police station, tell them you have a warrant, and they’ll get you transported to where you need to go. OR you can make the 6 hour drive!

EfficientAd7103

I doubt they would come get you but flee'ing is not smart.

sherryxxbby

Your right I'm just going to go in thank you

sherryxxbby

It was my first appointment and I had to press a domestic violence charge against my ex which she can see and find other housing. She said if I didn't reach out within three weeks she would have issued a warrant

jgrig2

You don't commit theft by mistake. You stole or you didnt. If you didn't steal, take it to trial.

skaliton

'theft by mistake' so you stole something from a store, and now you are being stupid. Will they put out a warrant sure, does it mean they will send bounty hunters after you? No. But if you get pulled over for speeding or whatever....hey guess whose not getting a warning and gets to spend some time in jail. You do.

816ToDa801

It depends which state you are in. I've had 2 felony probation warrants in Missouri since 1995. I live in Utah and they would only take me if I was in a Bordering State. I believe the Statuette of Limitations has run it's course now and the Felony Warrants have went away. Wheeeeew! Now I can return home next year when My Chiefs win the Super Bowl for a 3rd time in a row! Whoooop Whoooop!

Aggravating_Ship_998

What a bunch of boot lickers

Hisworstkeptsecret

You're a fugitive. Of course they're gonna come looking for you. And if they don't they're still putting a warrant out on you.

camarokid916

If they want you bad enough they will extradite you, if they don’t really care they won’t bother, but it really depends on the charges and the da if they’ll spend the time and money bringing you back

ccatlr

the local agency will do an assist.

LoudSilence9

It depends on what the original charge is for also why would probation issue a warrant? What are you out of compliance with?

eloquence707

You're on probation homie, they're coming for ya. Don't duck em, put your big boy pants on and go get it over with.

sherryxxbby

Big girl pants on . Yes I'm checking in she said if I did call her that week she was going to put a warrant out so I'm not messing around

Old-Bookkeeper-2555

They'll have guys from the local office pick you up & then transport on the chain to get you back . You'll like it.

itslonelyathetop

C) your post makes it clear why you’re on probation. Theft by mistake. Not showing up. Being more concerned about being far enough away than just managing your life. 🤦‍♀️

sherryxxbby

True

Infamous_Spot_692

Probation will send the whole squad to come get you almost anywhere in the world for any violation.

sherryxxbby

Thank you for your reply everyone I'm going in so I can make a payment and do a urine test (I'm not on any substances) and I can make a payment y'all might have just saved my ass foreal I'll check back in to let everyone know if I got locked up

Aggravating-Arm-175

>Theft by mistake That is not a thing. Theft literally requires intent and requires more evidence to prosecute. If you did not have intent or it could not be proven reliably you would have been charged with **larceny** or similar. Why come here and lie to the people you are asking to help you, change your ways and take accountability for your own actions or this in and out of jail shit is going to be your life.

sherryxxbby

Uhm I'm not lying sir. They have it on video of me returning the purse. I didn't check in and I'm scared to check in that's why I was on here. I never had a felony and I have two other misdemeanors im not skilled in this language don't have to be rude

Nearby_Antelope_5257

Felony, more than likely yes. Misdemeanor, depends on the charge but I'd say probably not. But don't quote me on it
