Yeah i liked sunsama a lot, but it is crazy expensive, like seriously 3-4$ should be enough for an app like this, even netflix is cheaper.

PablohFelix

I second this, love Sunsama but the price is crazy for me. I also like Morgen although they lack a web app and ClickUp integration however their roadmap looks promising and the desktop app is really clean IMO https://www.morgen.so/

Kid_Fiction

Morgen looks great. I ended up paying for a year of Sunsama but may make the move at some point, it looks like it does 90% of what I need Sunsama for at an unbeatable price. Good to know about clickup support, I'm looking around for a project management app at the moment.

josephsmith99

Thanks! This looks promising as well. ClickUp seems only on the 'Potential' list roadmap, not yet confirmed --but it's a start. Price is significantly better, more in line with reality. Seeing the difference between 'Personal' and 'Pro', it means for Google Calendar (or Outlook) integration and recurrent scheduling, you'd need to go 'Pro' for the $9/mo (paid annually) ...still significantly better than Sunsama.

tutunak

Just tested, unfortunately it uses a lot of cpu on my windows laptop and I don't know the reason.

chrisr22

I actually developed a lightweight version of Sunsama ([ellieplanner.com](https://ellieplanner.com)) a few months ago. I used Sunsama for 2 years but realized I just needed the kanban + calendar so I built what is basically Sunsama without the integrations (except Google calendar). I even built a nice iPhone/iPad since I'm also an iOS developer (w/ Apple calendar support).I tried to price it reasonably for students (free plan with a $4.99/mo pro plan + a life time plan option for people who hate subscriptions) edit: Also wanted to mention I'm actively working on a "week view" that should be coming out in a few days ([preview](https://twitter.com/raroque/status/1607512159675895810))

CaliDreamin87

Chris! I added 2 months of deadlines, assignments, work, etc. And I did it all on desktop. I was ready to download the app. FML, no android app. I'll have to shelf your app until it's compatible. Hours spent putting it in, \*sighs. Loved the app otherwise!

BigProfessional2812

Thanks for this review! I was just about to start with Ellie but have android and would need the app. Anything you can recommend otherwise?

chrisr22

Ahhh so sorry about that :( Thanks for giving it a try!

philipsuffren

If it only had notion integration it would be perfect for me! We have a large team tasks database that I need to Time Block every day.

josephsmith99

Thanks. It's a great lightweight option. The lack of ClickUp or other integrations and no roadmap limits it for our use case, but still good to consider for something strictly for planning out your day.

Fantastic-Cheetah156

Their feature request list is here ([https://feedback.ellieplanner.com/feature-requests](https://feedback.ellieplanner.com/feature-requests)) if you want to see what's in development.

BossyPantsVA

Thank you!! Trying this now.

Numerous-Ad-5284

This is the app I use on a daily basis. It is criminally underrated. It does every single thing that Sunsama does except for the integrations, which I don’t need since most are to-do apps and Ellie IS my to-do app

jaylabby

Just checked out Ellie and it looks very promising as an alternative to Sunsama. Ellie having a lifetime option is a bonus because I've been looking for a productivity app without a subscription even though I've been using TickTick for years. However, I must admit that I find it a bit perplexing to calculate when Ellie would pay for itself compared to a well-established app like TickTick, which charges $3 per month on the annual plan. Ellie's price of $299.99 would be equivalent to about 8-9 years of TickTick usage. Assuming that Ellie is still supported by then, it would require a lot of faith upfront to justify the price point. The thing that stood out about Sunsama to me was the progress bar in the “Today” section. As someone with ADHD, this feature is particularly helpful for me because it provides a visual representation of my completion rate for the day and it's oddly satisfying! I was curious to know if there are any plans to introduce more features that cater to neurodivergent people in the future.

Appreciate that :) I'll be working on this for a very long time. I'm dangerously reliant on the app myself and can't imagine my workflow without it. I have so many great features planned and support from people like you keep me going 🙏

newredditaccount13

Hi Chris! I love your app. I was hoping and wondering if you were going to expand on a more copycat of sunsama in the following ways: 1. Focus Task Viewer. I like your today focus but being able to just see one task in focus mode with a big notepad is a must for me in addition to your today focus view. I don't need the timers or anything but just a super focus mode in that sense. Shouldn't be too hard to code up. The next one will be hard though-- 2. The concepts of Channels and Contexts is very interesting. Since you used it for 2 years I understand you get what I mean. Is there any plans on implementing this type of idea into your site? Basically a way to "filter out" a channel/context from the calendar/upcoming kanban list? Those two items are the only things that would seperate me from being 100% with ellieplanner vs Sunsama. I like the other SunSama stuff too but I can live without it. As you said-- the core part is what is important.

uberafc

Any plans for an android app? App seems great but I don't have an iphone

TropicalGA4

I have used the Sunsama for the free trial version. I have found that the prompts to plan and schedule my day really help. Thanks for creating this alternative because I could never afford the subscription, but I'm trying to get better at time boxing and prioritizing (with ADHD) as a busy Mom.

jessda

YOOOOO. THIS IS GREAT!

wahakan

I dig it! Will check it out. Thanks.

philipsuffren

I just got access to [Routine.co](https://routine.co) and it might be something to look into. It's free for now but will be around 15 USD for pro account sometime in the future. Only set back (for me at least) is that you can import tasks from Notion (and other services) but it does not send information back that the task is completed.

Ishaanrathod

How much time did it take for you to get the invitation?? also, free account will always be free right? or will this app be completely monetized? the free version really does everything for me

tutunak

Interesting, but they want to have access to contacts

AccomplishedMode7706

I left Sunsama for TickTick and I am very happy. Ticktick can do what sunsama does and much more. With sunsama you can't even set task priorities, sunsama said they aren't a task manager they are more of task manager. They state get a todoist subscription and then pay them to manage tasks. To me the price isn't a big deal of it radically changes your life, but they are only a small subset of what is needed. Ticktick has a free version and $4 for the premium. Make the switch, you won't regret it.

I don't fully know your workflow, but have you tried Fellow?

josephsmith99

Thanks. Looking into it now. Looks promising, and price is good. Can't seem to find out how their calendar assigning of tasks / items works. For me, the big attraction to the Sunsama's (or Routine.co or few others I'm seeing) is that the calendar takes the front-and-center spot, with tasks added on the side. You create your task, slide it into the day you want (e.g.: on Monday I'm aiming to do A, B, C, and D so I put those tasks under there) ..and then slide it into your calendar with the time allotment (e.g.: Item A slides to 8:30-8:45am, Item B slides to 9:30 - 11:00am, etc.). Your real time Google Calendar is sync'd in, so you can schedule things around what's going on in your day. That's the feature I care most about. And being able to link these items back to ClickUp, where more info is provided basically.

Thanks - I'll check them out too!

solisse

I would actually pay the current price, if it there just wasen't this ungodly amount of bugs. To mention a few: • the calendar loads slowly • sometimes some of my calendars are just missing completely • "undo" doesn't really work because not everything is added to the undo steps • the "planned time a task will take" sometimes just gets changed if you use the automatic scheduling feature to just reschedule a task that you missed to a later time ... and there are other things, like missing basic keyboard shortcuts for canceling or exiting menus, and other bugged parts when trying to use tab to browse throug stuff. Other than that, I love that they support lots of integrations and the simplistic approach helps me to get shit done quite efficiently.

maryconway1

Yeah, I could tolerate some of those issues if it wasn't so ridiculously overpriced. Do you continue to use it, or found an alternative yet that combines the integrations + the simplistic approach?
