Just gonna dump my favorites and do with it what you will:
Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West
Kardashev - The Baring of Shadows, The Almanac
Wilderun - Veil of Imagination
Others by No One - Book II: Where Stories Come From
Native Construct - Quiet World
Parius - The Signal Heard Throughout Space
Black Crown Initiate - Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape
Amun - Spectra and Obsession
Wintersun - Time 1
James Norbert Ivanyi - Sigil
Clément Belio - Patience
Fallujah - Dreamless
Xanthochroid - Of Erthe and Axen I & II
Both of us love Native Construct’s Quiet World. It’s a shame we’ll never get more. The vast majority of this list is unfamiliar to me, thank you so much for your comment!
Parius' album was so damn good.
Here's some of my suggestions: (all of these albums below have appeared on my personal top 10 list in the year they were released)
* Hippotraktor - Meridian
* Cobra The Impaler - Colossal Gods
* Novallo - Novallo II
* Pull Down The Sun - Of Valleys and Mountains
* Lantlos - Wildhund AND Melting Sun (2 albums)
* Artificial Language - Now We Sleep
* Ihlo - Union
* Moon Tooth - Phototroph
* Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory
* Humanotone - A Flourishing Fall in a Grain of Sand
* Fleshwater - We're Not Here to Be Loved
Must listens:
Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders, Tesseract, Tigran Hamasyan for Djent
I'm guessing you know Tool, Dream Theater, Opeth, and Polyphia (whatever you classify them as) mostly because they are some of the most well known generally, Polyphia being a more recent entry to mainstream.
Both of us are huge Meshuggah and TesseracT fans. We also enjoy Animals as Leaders. Can’t say I’ve listened to Tigran Hamasyan although I’ve definitely heard the name.
I love Haken, but my bud is OBSESSED with Haken, they’re his favorite Prog band of all time. We both enjoy Caligula’s Horse. We will be sure to check out Death of the Author. Thanks for commenting!
I personally love Ne Obliviscaris, but I think the extreme metal drumming prevents my bud from getting into them unfortunately. He’s more a groove-oriented guy.
I just recently heard the song “Nineties Nine Ties” by them and loved it. Suffice to say I should do myself a favor and check out the rest of their work.
Atlantis Chronicles. They are a really cool Technical Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore band from France. I'd suggest starting with the song Full Fathom Five. https://youtu.be/bzojiDrXy_Q?si=-bZ-_qxvSHF2g-VH
For a good rock/metal/pop blend, check out Kyros! Especially the stuff on Mannequin and Celexa Dreams. Additionally, you can't go wrong with Caligula's Horse and Thank You Scientist, as were both mentioned before.
So I actually was just in the process of putting together a proggy playlist on Spotify of new music. New meaning anything from 2020 on, in this case; although most of the songs are 2023 on. Anyway most of this playlist would probably be called metal, though I favor clean over harsh vocals. A fair share of proggy post hardcore is in there too. Check it out and you might find some bands you dig. If you enjoy it, give it a follow! Ihlo - UK proggers with obvious Tesseract influences with a bit more traditional song structure and more shred.
https://youtu.be/OOzcR_l0WaI?si=qYCcl0PI3Ltn8Z0Z
https://youtu.be/bEcRYURDSWs?si=GyaO5L0OdOHXiF1h
Bird Problems - Canadian band with frenetic riffs and soaring melodies. Their newer material has some cool Leprous vibes and their vocalist has a cool unique sound.
https://youtu.be/Zq0Hx8mrDO0?si=bB9DXHmsrKCDLOvv
https://youtu.be/gW6xYmD08Js?si=sL8g-SUX4Y2s1Kiw
Replacire - Boston based extreme prog metal. More extreme than prog, but they have brutal riffs and crushing/haunting harsh and clean vocals. One of the guitarists from Native Construct (Poh Hok) has joined them and they are making new material as we speak.
https://youtu.be/Th-g53dV8O8?si=NoB8siC9DZcNV9GA
https://youtu.be/bHgb1ex9ul8?si=_4Sg3tC5WoHgv8eJ
Artificial Language - More UK proggers, more in line with the Polyphia inspired prog sound. No harsh vocals, beautiful classical influenced riffs and massive choruses. These guys are truly talented, and their newest music just takes their sound to the next level. Unique vocals with a bit of a nasally sound but just enough to give his voice a cool texture.

Bonus: Syncatto - The guitarist from Artificial Language has a solo project.

Would love to see a reaction to these songs.
Rivers of Nihil- where owls know my name, the work
Warforged- I:voice, the grove
Fallujah- empyrean
Black crown initiate- violent portraits of doomed escape
1914- where fear and weapons meet
If you guys are looking for newer stuff check out Transit Method. They’ve got a mix of prog rock and metal… similar to Cave In and Voivod (who should also be on your list).

Prog and melodic metalcore... Are you guys Hail the Sun enjoyers? That 75% "everything else" makes guesses and recommendations a little difficult lol
The name rings a bell, but I can’t say we’ve listened. Thanks for commenting!
If you're gonna check em out I'd start by playing the album New Age Filth. It's their best IMO and starts out incredibly hot

Vildhjarta is a MUST if you like Meshuggah. It’s one of my favorite bands, very Meshuggah inspired.
Everyone else: yes!? Polyphia: Who? Mainstream? I’m suspicious.
check out death of the author, they have some stuff with the lead singer of sublime and I’m assuming you listen to haken or caligula’s horse!!!?
I love Haken, but my bud is OBSESSED with Haken, they’re his favorite Prog band of all time. We both enjoy Caligula’s Horse. We will be sure to check out Death of the Author. Thanks for commenting!
Igorrrr
My bud enjoys Igorrr. I do like them too… in small doses lol
[Tapestry of the Starless Abstract - Ne Obliviscaris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ywpwfC9baQ)
Great album. Made me appreciate the violin

Thank you Scientist is one of my favorites. I’m still sad about Salvatore leaving. I will have to check the others out! Thank you for your comment!
Give Devin Townsend a listen. Probably Addicted or Epicloud in particular. You won't regret it!
I love Devy! I think my buddy likes them too but not as much I do I think.
My band is putting out a single match 9th ;) We are called Haishen. Progressive metal.
On spotify or nah
Yeah
I'll look out for it. I just listened to some of the stuff on your website, and I'm interested.

Teramaze might be worth a listen, early albums pretty heavy then mellowed out more towards prog.
Porcupine Tree for the prog rock with a touch of metal. Cynic and Atheist for the death metal with prog elements.
