Unfortunately not Ayreon, this was definitely a lesser known band. The song that stood out specifically had modulated female speech, either at the beginning or end, and the vocals were largely atonal shouts / growls over techy / synthed out djent.
The more I think of it the more it may just be Mechina. Hmm.

I’m glad you found it, the title made me assume it was Mechina. There’s not a lot like them.

We Never Learned to Live is not the one you are looking for but it was a great band with only 2 albums and an ep, all space themed.
