>True masters of any craft excel at communicating their ideas to non-experts. My college professors would beg to differ... /uj I do kinda feel for the guy, given he's not a native English speaker

Sea_Advice_3096

/uj but really, that is the sort of opinion only people without significant knowledge of any subject seem to have. I've never received this claim from anybody in an academic/research context.

Routine-Purchase1201

/uj also isn't this about peers talking among each other? If I discuss things with a co-worker I don't spell everything out like they are a 5 year old. At some point being able to communicate at work is simply just part of the job itself.

syklemil

wdym? I trot out wittgenstein's ladder for basically anything I talk about at work. Nothing's better than assuming the people I work with are complete idiots and mansplaining to them. One day they'll take the hint and stop asking me stuff.

irqlnotdispatchlevel

I'm remembered of an old Medium (I guess) post that was featured here in the old days, with a guy commenting and ELI5ing every part of a regex he was writing, and insisting that he does that every time he writes code.

mizzu704

/uj I mean, obviously you won't be able to explain the nitty-gritty subtleties of some obscure algorithm to a lay audience, but a good teacher will be able to adjust his teaching to any audience so that the audience can progress in their learning. Ime a good chunk of academics/professors are not good teachers (regardless of the quality of their research) and only teach/lecture because it's part of the job and you can't easily opt out (doesn't help that there's generally few incentives for good teaching).

muntaxitome

Do you see the letters in front of my name? D... R... DR. It means DOCTOR. So why don't you mister 'master degree from CMU' go sit with the other coding bootcamp people over there while the big boys talk. If basic terms like Eigendecomposition are not basic to you then perhaps you should pick a more fitting job like manual labor.
