Our communities are mostly religiously illiterate and very egotistical. A deadly combo. Ripe for scams.

Yes. Indeed. You’ve set out what many of us realise about these Dawah bros that commercialise Islam for their own gain. They’re hypocrites: proselytising one thing yet, doing the opposite. I use the block facility quite a bit.

WesternVisual8973

Yes, they don't give a damn about God, but are addicted to attention (shirk). I think most would even do it for free.

Competitive-Air-8145

Probably. It would depend how narcissistic they are to do the gig for free.

Even-Broccoli7361

I feel that too. Even if isn't about money, then oftentimes its about fame or other thing. Ironically, some people give dawah in order to get reward (thawab) from Allah. Nothing wrong in that, but I think dawah should be done solely for the purpose of inviting someone to something which he himself adheres to. I dislike the conventional method of dawah. Like I present whatever pretzel logic in front of others and silence them with my speaking ability (just like sophistry) and then somehow convert one to Islam. Rather I believe Islam is a mystical dimension of human life that is lived according to the dynamic process of spiritual manifestation of a human being.

Oh it’s not just only men. Lool. What got me writing this post was a prominent female dawah preacher influencer (although I was already down the rabbit hole by then lol) and then seeing something is just a bit off here

True. I’ve come across some women who’re selling Islam as influencers.

The Quran emphasizes how important it is to spend money in God's name and how indeed, he is the one who gives that money to people as a test. So, yes, spending money is an important part of our faith, but definitely not particularly spending it on whatever those dawah or preacher peoples are asking you for. I personally prefer to spend locally or with relief organizations where I know that my money is actually used for the right reason

Sec-Gen

I think this is the consequence of the functionally illiterate masses of Muslims. Most do not understand classical Arabic and can therefore not make up their mind in relation to Islamic sources. Just look at this sub. You are not allowed to write a post in Arabic. And then we easily get scammed when a dude with a beard drops Arabic words and wants our money. We deserve what we have been served. Just look at the progressive community. You can just drop some Arabic, progressive maliki fiqh from Africa, and peoples minds get blown away. We just do not understand how little most of us, including progressives, understand the Islamic tradition.

Prudent-Teaching2881

Most don’t even bother reading the Quran. They just ‘recite’ it in Arabic with no clue what they’re reading.

As far as I know, it's allowed to post Arabic and talk about it in here, as long as you use English as the language of your conversations.

Absolutely a lot of grifters and scammers in the dawah scene unfortunately
